File 'boot.efi' refuses to delete from Trash

I recently deleted some of the Time Machine backups from my external hard drive.
I then went to empty the trash and load refused to delete.
After following the instructions from allot of the other discussions I got rid most of them, bar one.
The file is within several folders entitled 'boot'efi', if the path's any help its
/Volumes/Iomega HDD/.Trashes/501/2008-09-11-221342/Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices
It is locked, which I think is the problem but I cannot unlock it as its greyed out.
I know it probably wont hurt to leave it there, it's just annoying because I know it should.
Did I make a mistake in deleting files from Tie Machine in the first place?

In that case visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on resolving Trash problems. You will find a method for removing the file.

i am trying to delete all files and folders from the trash folder by clicking  empty securely, but its not deleteing the files anf folder. please suggest how to clean the trash folder by deleteing all the deleted files and folder.

Securely deleting items in Trash writes Zeros over the data so that it is completely eradicated.
This will take quit a long time depending on how much data you have in Trash.
Unless there is data that needs to be rendered unrecoverable in the Trash, you could choose to just delete the files and folders with out the secure option.
Once you have Emptied the Trash unsecurely you can always use disk utility to Securely Erase Free Space on the Drive.

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.

I have two excel files I cannot open or delete from my desktop.  One is titled 6ACAD200 and the other file is titled 8D73A700.  How can I get these off of my computer?

From the names I'd guess they are temporary files. If excel is running, quit and try again. If they still won't move or delete reboot. If they still won't move or delete...kill a chicken at midnight under an oak tree?

  • HT1668 I get the "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash". whenever i try deleting from my ipad 2. I am unable to delete from Trash...HELP

I get the "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash". whenever i try deleting from my ipad 2. I am unable to delete from Trash...HELP!
Additional info...I am trying to delete these emails from a Webmail address. the Trash currently has 11 messages and they arent being deleted.

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you still can't delete them then go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars,  select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

  • How do I delete the file "boot.efi"?!?!?!?

Hello, I recently did a re-install of Tiger, and in the install options, I selected "Archive and Install"- so it left a folder on my hard drive called Previous Systems.
I have gone through this folder and taken out everything I want, and I am trying to delete it. It all deletes except for a file called "boot.efi". It stops me when I try to empty the trash by saying "The operation cannot be completed because the item "boot.efi" is locked." and my options are Stop and Continue.
When I click "get info" on the file, the box for "locked" is checked, and is ghosted out, so I cant uncheck it, and I have no options to toggle for file permissions either.
    Help me please

    boot.efi probably is immutable
    - open Terminal window
    - man chflags
at bottom: You can use "ls -lo" to see the flags of existing files.
    - ls -lo boot.efi
    - sudo chflags nouchg boot.efi
    - sudo rm boot.efi

  • How to Locate Original Files in Aperture Once Version Deleted from Library

I have a very large aperture library (250GB). For a long time, I have maintained my library by deleting only the "versions" of photos that I do not like (File-Delete Version), not realizing that the originals were still there. I would like to also delete the originals (master), since they are large RAW files taking up a lot of space. But with the versions now gone from my library, I do not know how to locate the original files to delete. Is there any way for me to do this?
I feel like there should be a way to find out if there are any original files not associated with a corresponding version in the library, to allow you to recover accidently deleted files.  That would be a start, but I can't find a way to do it. Thanks.

Also, I visited the Apple store recently and was told that deleting the version does not delete the master, and they even showed me on their computers where files deleted from the library were stored (they did this by "File-Open Library in iPhoto," highlighting all the images, and then "File-Reveal in Finder-Original File."
For a managed library: "Delete version" will only delete the selected version, if there is more than one version of the the same image. But if you only have one version left, delete version will delete the original file as well. An original is of no use, if you do not have a version to reference it.  The " File-Delete Original Image and All Versions" option is there to be able to delete all versions at once, together with the original file.
For a referenced library you will be prompted, if you want to delete the referenced original, if you are deleting the last version.
Just try it for a managed library. Import an image and use "Delete version" for the last version.  The version will be moved to Aperture's Trash. And if you empty the trash, you will find the original version in the Trash in your Dock. And it cannot be put back from the Trash.
You will be prompted, if you really want to delete the file, when you empty Aperture's Trash.
The App Store genius must have shown you a referenced library, when the original was not removed after deleting the version, or they did not delete the last version, if it was a managed library.

  • Deleting from trash

Any explanation as to why people can't delete a project with content in it from trash? is there any way to bypass this without having to manually go under the project and subfolders and delete all the content before going back and delete the project?

    Hi thanks for the response.
Yes, I've seen that document. We're not looking to disable the trash, we still want items to go to trash, but if you're deleting a bunch of items from trash, why have the user go one by one, removing everything inside first so they can remove the project/folder, then go to the next?, I'm sure Oracle would have a better solution than just "don't use trash then", after all you said it's like the recycle bin, if i click on 4 folders and try to remove it, it won't ask me to remove everything inside first for each folder. =/

I tried to do the instructions Adobe gave me but when
I put in the disc that came with my mac and hold down
C when it restarts it takes me to the screen to do a
    fresh install.
At that point go to the Menu & select Disk Utility - I can't remember exactly which menu but you should be able to find it easily... there isn't too much there
I went into the disk utility through the Apps folder
and for somereason the option to repair isnt
highlighted and it wont let me click it. I tried to
repair permissions/verify but it doesnt change
anything. I looked at the info and it says the volume
can be repaired, but it wont let me.
You can't Repair the disk the system is currently running the OS from - That's why you have to boot from the Installer disk (or some other start-up disk). Repair Disk addresses directory structure issues - totally separate from what Repair Permissions does.
