File Browse defaults

Is it possible to set a default path for an item defined as 'File Browse'. I tried the obvious of typing in the default path in the 'Default' section on the Item definition, but it didn't display.
Suggestions...

The how-to shows how to setup an item as 'File Browse'. The next logical extension is that my user wants the item to always default to a specific path/file.
So, my user wants the content of the file browse item to be defaulted to C:\upload_files\a123.txt
Any help is appreciated!

  • How to set default file browser and web browser

    I am using openbox as the window manager and don't have a desktop environment.
    My file browser is pcmam file manager and my web browser is chromium.
    I add

    ashesxera: Thanks for the pointers!
    After some hours of persistent puzzling I finally figured out how to make Thunderbird/Lanikai open URIs in Chromium instead of Firefox in the XFCE desktop environment.
    In fact I found two solutions that both work.
    1) The straightforward solution: make some changes to Thunderbird/Lanikai's prefs.js
    Add two string variables:
    string: network.protocol-handler.app.ftp; value: exo-open
    string: network.protocol-handler.app.http; value: exo-open
    string: network.protocol-handler.app.https; value: exo-open
    and importantly: change the values of the Boolean variables network.protocol-handler.warn-external.ftp network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https to 'true'.
    It turns out that for some unclear reason the standard Arch Linux Thunderbird/Lanikai package uses gnome-open to open URLs. The persistent popping up of Firefox was caused by some settings in .gconf that come with the gconfd package. I didn't find these values in gconf-editor.
    2) Change xml files in .gconf
    As I don't want to use Firefox as standard browser any longer, I wanted to get rid of these hidden settings in .gconfd so that "gnome-open [URI]" opens a webpage in Chromium.
    I succeeded in getting there by replacing firefox with chromium in the following files:
    .gconf/desktop/gnome/applications/browser/%gconf.xml
    .gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/chrome/%gconf.xml
    .gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ftp/%gconf.xml
    .gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/%gconf.xml
    .gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/https/%gconf.xml
    .gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers//%gconf.xml

    OK, I know this is not solely an APEX issue, but is there a way that one can specify a starting location when invoking the file browse dialog?

    I don't think there is a possibility to modify the file browse item. It is a security issue.

  • How to add a new right-click menu entry in Nautilus file browser?

    I want to add a couple of new context menu entries to Nautilus File Browser.
    So when I e.g. right-click in View Pane on a file "foobar.conf" an menu entry "edit with gedit" should appear (among the other default entries).
    When clicked the file "foobar.conf" should be passed to gedit (and gedit editor opened).
    How can I achieve this?

    To manage selected files or directories, you can use specific Nautilus variables like NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS.

  • How to get full path in file browse item

    Hi
    I have a file item. When I submit the form and store and value in db, then the file path is stored as numbers and appended to the file name. I undestand that this is because of some wwv flow files index or something . How to get the file path? Anybody...

    For security/privacy reasons recent versions of browsers by default do not send local file path information from File Browse items to the server, nor expose the file path in the control's JavaScript methods. Firefox, Safari and Chrome only provide the filename. IE6 & IE7 still yield the path in Windows format. IE8 and Opera have adopted an irritating approach of replacing the path with a wholly imaginary "C:\fakepath\".
    Changes to IE's security config can enable the path to be exposed in IE8, but I don't think it will be available via <tt>apex_application_files</tt>.

  • Bridge CC file association default not working

    Greetings.
    I've recently upgraded to CC from CS6. Uninstalled and removed CS6 files properly (why have them on C:/ taking up space?).
    Ps, Ai, Id, all working properly (thank my lucky stars...), which are the three apps I use daily,... and Br, however, Bridge CC is acting up it seems. Screenshots for your pictorial review.
    Double-clicking on a JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF image file within Bridge CC will result in,
    Right-clicking, selecting to "Open With", and selecting "Window Photo Viewer 6.1 (default)" will produce the same result.
    With Ps, Ai, and Id, double-clicking a '.psd', '.ai', and '.indd' will open in their respective app. However, when selecting to "Open With", and selecting either 'Photoshop' or 'Illustrator' will result in an errors (even tho' each app shows as default):
    I've checked the default settings for the respective file types involved, in Bridge CC preferences,
    —PNG, GIF, and TIF files are also associated to 'Windows Photo Viewer 6.1' as show below for JPG—.
    and Windows 7,
    It would appear that the file types are properly associated yet Bridge CC does not read/apply these settings.
    It proved useless to uninstalled/re-installed Bridge CC. Windows Photo Viewer works perfectly fine as default in Windows 7 browser.
    I've read that a solution could be to uninstall all CC apps, run some kind of cleaning process and re-install apps. I find solutions rather odd;  plus, it takes h-o-u-r-s to download/install each app.
    I'm stumped, not to mention quite annoyed. Any thoughts?
    Thank you!

    Thank you for your reply Curt Y, but I didn't foul anything; I followed standard procedures which I have umpteen times—prompts from the install/uninstall app which usually take place all on their own.
    I read post 20, to which you referred me, however, after reading it, it appears that you may have misunderstood my situation; I'll try again, for everyone's benefit as well.
    In Bridge CC:
    Ps files (.psd) defaults to Ps CC when double-clicked and open in the app—no problem.
    Id and Ai files also open to their respective default app—no problem either.
    HOWEVER, and most interestingly, if I should "Open With" and select either 'Photoshop' or 'Illustrator", to open a '.psd' or'.ai' file respectively, I would get the errors,
    While this is an issue I can work around it is not my main concern. My MAIN problem is opening JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and TIF files (thus far) in the Windows Photo Viewer (WPV), whose operation apparently is associated to the 'PhotoViewer.dll' file inside the Windows Photo Viewer folder.
    Outside of Bridge CC the WPV works perfectly.
    It is entirely absurd that one should have to launch an app (Ps, for example) every time one wants to simply view an image in a larger scale/window, such as in WPV.
    It is also possible that one would want to open any of the file types listed above in Ps, for example, but as of now the "Open With" as I've described is not working properly—this I could live with.
    In the end, having made the changes to the Ps string as described in "post 20", nothing has changed from my initial post.
    And where would one make the appropriate string corrections for Ai?
    I STILL cannot open JPG,PNG,TIF, GIF, and BMP files in Windows Photo Viewer from Bridge CC.
    Thanks again.

  • File Browse item...

    Hi everyone,
    I need a help...I'm sure it's a piece of cake for most of you...but.
    First of all I must explaine a architecture of the our application.
    So, we have a APEX and application which is placed on Server_01 and the data which are on Server_02. Databases are connected with a database link.
    Well, in the apllication I use the item "File Browse" to get some file from the hard disk of local computer.
    By default the file is saved in wwv_flows_files ( view on table wwv_flow_file_objects$ ).
    I need to insert that file on the remote database ( Server_02 ) over database link in the BLOB datatype field.
    ...so, if someone have any solution or experience...
    thanks,
    Mzz

    Zlatko,
    If you follow the instructions in our primary how-to on this topic, specifically the part "Storing the Document in a Custom Table", I think you need to change the code just a bit to insert the row (with the blob) into the remote table over your database link (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31036_01/doc/appdev.22/b28839/up_dn_files.htm#CIHHEHCJ).

  • File Browsing for Freaks (i.e. 'advanced users')

    I'm currently searching a simple, lightweight, shell-based file-browser. I'm not searching a file-manager, too much bloat in it. I don't want to manage my files through a file-manager, I prefer to use cp, mv, vi/nano etc..
    I just want a file-browser which I can use to browse directories on my system through an ncurses-based interface.
    It should just show me the content of a directory and give me a one-line CLI-Prompt at the bottom as the Midnight Commander does, so I can execute my commands (cp, mv, vi/nano etc..) directly from the file-browser
    Do you know ncmpc? Or cplay?
    I'm searching a file-browser with an interface which resembles the one ncmpc and/or cplay uses.
    If you know something like that what I'm searching, drop me a line.

    Gilneas wrote:Why not just run an mc-like ls after cd'ing?
    I use this: ls -l -a --color=auto -h -F --group-directories-first
    Which I have aliased to just l
    I played around with different tools in the last days and I found out some things which can be useful.
    Possibility 1:
    '~$: ls -l -a --color=auto -h -F --group-directories-first | w3m'
    In this case w3m is used as pager for displaying a directory's content.
    But one could also use 'more', 'less' or simply '~$: ls -l -a --color=auto -h -F --group-directories-first' without any pager.
    Possibility 2:
    '~$: w3m <path/to/dir>'
    By default this gives you a full dual panel view with browse-able ('click-able') directories, content listing and viewing (not editing AFAIK) the content of text files.
    You're even able to customize the panel-, format- and sorting-type by simply using 3 selection fields at the top.
    I think using w3m as directory pager and file viewer *could* be a compromise between the blank ls and a more powerful file browser.
    Possibility 3:
    '~$: lynx <path/to/dir>'
    More powerful than w3m with (at least) the same customization possibilities.
    Additionally you can specify a default editor (e.g. Vi, Nano etc.) in the lynx config, after this you're able to select a text file and [ENTER] to open your preferred editor and view/modify the selected file. Modify it, save, quit the editor and continue browsing your system with lynx. Lynx' capabilities go even further: You can create, modify (move/rename) and delete directories.
    Amazing, don't you think?
    Unix and its abilities to combine different tools for a specific task never ceases to amaze me.

  • File Browser always clears

    When I pass a string to a File Browse item from one page to another, and then back, my file browse object is empty, even though the application appears to know its value.
    In this example, I've shown how I'm debugging my code.

    In this picture I show the results.

    And this shows the value of the session variables.
    http://i36.tinypic.com/jacgnn.gif
    Why doesn't the file browse item display?
    Thanks,
    -Ken

    Hello Ken,
    Scott is right. The HTML standard, and the way it's being implemented in the browsers, put some security restriction over this item type. This behavior has nothing to do with APEX. For example, you also can’t set a default value to this item, and the browser will always clear it upon submit.
    Also, if you’ll look at the value of the item, as the system “see” it, you’ll see that it’s not exactly in a valid format for the File Browse item. The APEX engine prefixes the file name with an internal ID number, as part of the loading process. In this state, this value is useless as a file brows value.
    BTW, interesting debugging technique.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • JTree File Browser solutions and a problem

    Hi everyone I have recently needed to create a file browser that allows addition, deletions and rename of files/directores using a JTree component.
    I have searched the Sun web site and found a number of examples and from what I can see there are more or less two solutions. The first is to use the DefaultTreeModel and the DefaultMutableTreeNode classes and the other is to implement a new TreeModel taking advantage of a the File objects tree structure. This I found at;
    http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/tsc/articles/jtree/
    This to me seemed a very elegant solution. However it doesn't contain deletion, addition etc. So far I have tried to implement the addition of files but I have run into problems. The problem I have is that when I add a file a blank space ends up on the JTree view. If someone could take a look and suggest where I am going wrong I would be very greatful. The methods below I added to the FileSystemModel.java class from the url above.
         public File[] getPathToRoot(File file) {
         return getPathToRoot(file, 0);
        protected File[] getPathToRoot(File file, int i) {
         File[] files;
         if (file == null) {
             if (i == 0){
              return null;
             files = new File;
         } else {
         i++;
         if (file.equals( getRoot())){
                   files = new File[i];
              }else{
              files = getPathToRoot(file.getParentFile(), i);
         files[files.length - i] = file;
         return files;
    public void insertFileInto(String newFilePath, File parent) {
         File newFile = new File(parent, newFilePath);
         try{
              newFile.createNewFile();
              } catch ( IOException io){
                             System.out.println("io ex");
         filesWereInserted( parent,newFile);
    public void filesWereInserted(File file, File newFile) {
         if (listenerList != null && file != null ) {
         Object[] objects = new Object[1];
              objects[0] = newFile;
              int [] is = new int[1];
              is[0] = 0;
         fireTreeNodesInserted(new TreeModelEvent(this, getPathToRoot(file), is, objects));
    I basically looked at the DefaultTreeModel and tried to simluate the behaviour for files.
    Since I have had this problem I remembered that out of the two solutions I have seen for a file browser the first is far more common. Perhaps I have chosse the wrong solution. Before I switch to the other soluion I thought I'ld put my problem to you guys and ask what you think the best solution is.
    Thanks for any help :)

    You are right this is a bad idea. You really want to implement delay loading. This means that your tree start out with only the top level folder expanded and dummy nodes in the folders that have children. Then using the expand events you can remove your dummy node and put in the real nodes before the tree displays the children. On the collapse event you can remove the real nodes and put back your dummy node (or you can leave the real nodes, that just means that eventually customers could have nodes for the entire system in memory, with a little work on their part:-). This way you only read the part of the file system that is visible and you only have the currently visible nodes in memory. I am sure you can find some examples of this technique.
    While this could be done with the default models I feel that a custom model would be the way to go.

  • CS4 apps are VERY slow to open Windows file browser with File Open or File Save As commands

    We are running CS4 on Windows 7 with all available updates installed.   Photoshop and the other CS4 applications are VERY slow to open a Windows file browsing window to select files when File Open or File Save As menu options are run -- it can take as long as a minute or two for the window to open.  Once the window opens and a file is selected, then opening or saving the file is very quick.  The location of the default directory, whether it is on a local drive or a network drive, makes no difference.  Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

    Raphman02
    The link that I posted earlier is off.  Read this one
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2501584.  I discovered in my network that the MS Office File Validation Patch made excel crawl when opening over the network though nothing else changed. At the time I was opening Excel on Office 2003.
    You can manually turn this off by editing the registry and tunring it off.  Going forward I skipped the patch to keep my sanity.  Not sure if this is the same as your issue, but the support article will go into detail how to either have Fix it
    clear the issue or change the proper registry keys.
    Hope this helps

  • File Browser, properties, library window will not show up

    I'm using an old version of Motion 3 and my File Browser, properties, library window will not show up even when I click on the icons and/or press command+2,3, or 4 . Seems to be some kind of settings glitch as Motion works fine when logged in under another user. Any thoughts.

    schlickler,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    but now I have the preferences folder on my desktop--does that have to stay there?
    No, it can be trashed.
    Plist files contain instructions for recording and executing tasks associated with the the application or function that owns them. They can and do become corrupted. If you look in the username/Library/Preferences Folder you can usually guess what application or function the .plist serves by analyzing the file name. In this case it was the com.apple.iCal.plist file.
    Proper identification of the appropriate .plist file is not always so obvious. When an application malfunctions, removing the associated .plist file from the preferences folder to the Desktop is often the easiest first troubleshooting step. Then log out/in or restart and re-evaluate the performance of the application.
    A new default .plist file is automatically created in your Preferences Folder after you remove the recalcitrant .plist and initiate the log out/in restart sequence. You can expect default application behavior and you will have to reset some preferences. If the application or function returns to normal after removing the .plist file, it will prove that the original file was corrupt, and you can now safely trash the .plist file which you placed on the Desktop.
    If the application or function is unsatisfactory with the new plist file, the original plist file which was placed on the Desktop can be safely returned to the preferences folder. Just allow the system to replace the newer plist.
    If you are having problems with any aspect of OS X, experiment with deleting the appropriate .plist file. Plist corruption is not uncommon and .plist file deletion often cures many problems. Too many users try intricate solutions first and end up complicating their minor problem.

  • Pithy - A tiny console file browser

    Pithy is a console file browser, a branch of ranger which focuses on shortness and simplicity of the code and integration into the shell while retaining rangers basic features and looks. Its size is less than 1000sloc (about a tenth of ranger) which makes it great for people who want to tinker with the code.
    Screenshot:
    (yes, this is actually a screenshot of ranger, but they both look the same anyway)
    There is no README file or other documentation, so here's an introduction:
    Pithy is not started by executing a file but by executing a bash/zsh function. First you need to source either bash_integration.sh or zsh_integration.zsh, depending on your shell. Either file takes the command to run the program as an argument, which is a simple "/path/to/pithy.py" in most cases but can be as complex as python2.6 "/path/to/pithy.py" --option1 .... So, the full line looks like:
    source /path/to/bash_integration.py /path/to/pithy.py
    It defines the function bash_pithy or zsh_pithy and the hotkey CTRL+O for quickly starting it. Read the *_integration-file for details.
    The configuration file puts the pieces together which the pithy "library" provides you. It is about 300 lines long and you may want to skim through it to grasp the concept and the control keys. It is located at pithy/data/settings.py and can be copied to ~/.config/pithy/rc.py for customization. The settings file is executable python code which is run on initialization. First the default settings.py, then the custom rc.py. To ignore the default settings, use the option --no-defaults.
    To run files, you have to set up a file launcher. Try http://xyne.archlinux.ca/projects/mimeo/
    echo 'FILE_LAUNCHER = "mimeo %f"' >> ~/.config/pithy/rc.py
    The interface is much like in ranger. Main differences as of now: No automatic synchronization with the FS, type "r" to update the view. No parallel loading either, the unicode support is limited and there is no console, just very simple prompts.
    Bookmarks are implemented using the file system. Type m<name><ENTER> to create a link at $confdir/bookmarks/<name>, then type ` or ' to go there and pick a directory.
    Instead of the console, use the shell. Quitting and restarting pithy will restore almost the same state (which you can reset with pithy --reset.) The variable $f contains the current filename. You need to use "$f" in bash if the filename contains spaces. The command sel runs xargs with the selected files as arguments. For example, type sel echo to display all selected files or sel mv -t /some/directory to move all selected files to /some/directory. Files are selected with SPACE or v and unselected with V. In contrast to ranger, the selection is global.
    To install and run:
    git clone http://git.sv.gnu.org/r/ranger.git pithy
    cd pithy
    git checkout slim
    source bash_integration.sh /path/to/pithy.py # if you use zsh, source zsh_integration.zsh instead
    And start pithy with ctrl+O.
    (Note: There's a little bug with the bash-version: when exiting pithy, the directory is changed but the old one is still displayed in the prompt. I don't know how to make bash update it. Pressing ENTER fixes it though.)
    I guess thats about it. Feel free to ask your questions
    Btw: I'm not working on this at the moment. I'm posting this just so it's out there.

    That is sweet! I just tried it and works great. Fast as well. 1Mb file took 3sec.
    I was trying to think of a way today how I could set something like this up but no need to now. I know there is a way but I guess I'll never investigate for now.
