Iv'e just purchased the online file conversion to word, i've just logged in and the adobe reader document shows it's updloading file to Adobe Export PDF online but it's taking ages and doesnt' seem to be working.
My boss needs this done super urgent - can you please???

I do not know what the problem is; it's possible that there is a problem with the ExportPDF server?
If it's super urgent, what I would do is download the free trial of Acrobat Pro, and run the conversion with Acrobat for now.

Hi there,
It sounds like there may be an issue with the quality of the PDF. Not all PDFs are created equal, and especially those created from scanned documents can be problematic if the scan quality isn't the best. Is there a dark background on the PDF, or stray marks or smudges?
You can try converting with OCR disabled at outlined in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community. But, while that's a good test to find out where the problem lies, you'll end up with a Word document that isn't editable, so it's not an optimal solution.

Everytime I download a document and try to open up a box opens up an says file conversion ms-dos word document (default) and some others as well. I've tried all and still will not work. There are a lot of letters and sybols that come up. whats the problem? I tried installing adobe and acrobat over and over .

You have to provide a bit more information than that. Your OS, your browser, what is causing that conversion - a browser extension?
If "something" converts a downloaded PDF doc to MS Word format, then that is not a problem of Acrobat or Reader.
Can you provide a screenshot of that po-up - perhaps we can find out what is causing that conversion.

No worries! We'll get this sorted out for you. I'm not sure that I follow, though. You converted a Word file to PDF, and now you want to convert that file back to Word, and then to PowerPoint? That seems like a lot of steps, when you could import your Word document into a PowerPoint file.
If I'm missing something, and misunderstanding your process, please let me know. It's best to avoid unnecessary conversions from one format to another to another, if possible.

I open a donwloaded file from an e-mail and a file conversion box appears.The characters are all wierd.

I can not open a downloaded file from an e-mail or off the web w/o a file conversion box popping up.It shows options to open with msoffice word but I choose that and it opens with all the characters that are weird looking. There is also the issue where every time I open up Mozzila there are portions of advertisements that look like they are in Japanese. I go to the View in the top bar then select Character Encoding.The unicode is selected so I switch to Western (ISO-8859-1) and everything is normal. I close the browser and restart and it goes back to the way it was with the Japanese looking text.

You can convert the PDF text to regular text (.txt) and then import/open into another program and make your changes, then save the file in the programs format (for your later editing) and then choose Print from the program and there may/may not be a option to save as PDF again.
You'll need a free (limited use) PDF to text utility like
PDF OCR

Trouble here of course is you lose all the formatting and have to reformat, but it's a lot less expensive than Adobe's software.
LibreOffice is free to use and can save as PDF format if iWork doesn't save as PDF, it should unless Apple is really peeved at Adobe.

File Conversions with API...!

I'm searching for a file conversion product that comes with an API, which will enable programmers or developers to integrate it in their program.
The product must be able to convert PDF, HTML, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Word into a text document. Most of the product that I found do not come with an API.
Does anyone know a good product that does that...?

Opening PDF files in MS Word?

My computer tries to open PDF downloaded files using Microsoft Word.
What setting do I have to change to cut off opening in Word?

Sometimes the case is the system default open PDF files with wrong program such as Ms Word, therefore simply change the “open with” settings to specify a permanent or temporary program to open it in correct program, to PDF, Adobe reader is the right one, you need to install it in advance.
But maybe someone are not familiar with PDF files and treat them as editable documents like word, then to <link removed> is what they manage to do. I guess most reasons to do so is that they assume that PDF files can be edited. In that case, conversion can be implemented.

File conversion failures

Trying to combine pdf files to a single file and get file conversion failure. What's wrong?

All are pdf files saved or converted from word. I've been able to convert several other files. I have also systematically tried to leave out one file and combine the rest (total 6 files). Any way to determine which file is the problem.

Converting PDF files to Microsoft Word

I downloaded a PDF file to Microsoft word, but I can't edit it. Why?

That suggests that the PDF was not created with PDF Maker that retains the format information. As a result, there is not much you can do with Acrobat if it is not converting properly. You can try to save as HTML or RTF and import those into WORD. Sometimes those conversions will do better, but not real sure.
You can also use a copy and paste from the PDF with the alt key held down to force the column mode of copy. Unfortunately, with Acrobat there is not much more you can do. There are some 3rd party products that focus on the conversion to WORD and I understand do a much better job for the type of untagged document you likely have. Check with PDF Zone or Planet PDF for the 3rd party solutions. Be aware, they are not cheap either.
