File crashing when placing or linking

I am getting extremely frustrated! I use InDesign CS5.5 daily for my job.  I would say I have to force quit probably 8-10 times a day.  Almost everytime I try to relink or place an image I get the spinning beach ball or InDesign automatically closes unexpectedly. I can't work this way.  I have talked to someone before and they told me to reinstall InDesign.  I have done that, I have also deleted/reset preferences.  Worked for about an hour, then continues to freeze, also has been happening in Illustrator CS5.5 as well lately.  It seems like it started doing this after I updated to Yosemite.  I really need to get this resolved and am losing my patience.  It is affecting my job performance.
Here are my specs:

Yikes   Not what I wanted to hear.  OK, I may have to do that, because I use Adobe 8+ hrs a day.  Thank you so much for your help

  • After Effects Crashes when using dynamically linked files

When I try to edit a dynamically linked after effects, After Effects crashes, which then crashes Premiere Pro. I have CS5.5 master. Is this a problem with the after effects file (only 8kb in size) or something wrong with After Effects. The files come up as being linked in Premiere Pro but when I open the After Effects file to do further editing, it just crashes.

You told us zero about your system and your project settings on bothe ends, so this is not going anywhere. Such crashes can have any number of reasons from running out of memory to graphics card issues but we truly cannot know.

  • Firefox 22 crashes when clicking a link in a thunderbird 3.011 email

I updated to FF 22 a couple of days ago and found that when I clik on a link in a Thunderbird email FF doesn't start but immediately crashes. Safe-mode does nothing to help. If I start the browser first it seems to be ok. It is set as the default browser. The only thing that fixed my problem was reverting to FF 21.
    Windows XP SP2
I've never had issues with FF so this is a new thing. I've tried reinstalling FF 22 and upgraded Thunderbird. It didn't help either.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox is crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Indesign crashes when placing PDFs

    All,
When placing PDFs in and Indesign file, it occasionally crashes. Usually when doing multiple pages, one at a time, some work and some crash.... although the ones that crash always crash and I cannot get them placed.
The goal is to put the PDFs in the file and add text and/or images over the PDF.
    Solutions?
    Power Book Pro OS 10.8.5
    Indesign CS 6

    Eugene,
Produced with IText 2.0.2 (by Iowagie.com), PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
However, some of the pages place just fine, and some crash every time. Suspect there's corruption on the crashing pages.
Is there a way I could save the file in a different format or program and open that into Indesign?

  • Adobe Encore CS6 crashes when using dynamic link

I'm trying to use encore for the first time to create a wedding DVD. I'm trying to use the dynamic link feature from premiere pro but whenever I use it (I've tried intiating it from both premiere and encore) it crashes. When starting it from premiere it crashes right away but using it from encore it crashes when I want to create a new timeline from the sequence. Is there a way to stop this from happening? Also I don't really want to have to render the premiere pro file since it's quite large but if I have to I will. Thank you

I filmed it from a HD camera.
I tried to dynamic link a much shorter clip but yet the same thing happened from both programs. I even tried to make a timeline from in Encore with nothing in it and it crashed.
EDIT: I redownloaded premiere pro with encore and it seems to work now. Thank you for all your help though. Much appreciated.

  • Database crashes when placed in Archivelog mode

My production database continues to crash when I place it in Archivelog mode. This happen especially during the period most of the heavy jobs is running. On the other hand, I created a clone of this very same database on another server in Archivelog mode and it is running great. It’s also honest to say the jobs that run on the production are not running in the clone.
    Any advice will be appreciated.

  • Photoshop crashes when placing eps

    Hi
I'm using Photoshop CS3 on a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Mac running 10.5.5. I have 4 GB of RAM installed and over 400 GB of space available on the HD.
Photoshop frequently crashes when trying to place Quark eps files into a new document. It particularly seems to happen with larger files.
Could this simply be a memory problem, or is anyone aware of anything I could do to cure it?
    Many thanks for any help.

Thank you all for your replies.
Chris - thanks for the offer. I'm very happy to supply the eps file for you to test, however, it's 286MB in size, so I'm not sure how best to get it to you?
Ramon - it may be incomprehensible to you that I'm still using Quark, but there are good reasons for it. We started with Quark many years ago and consequently, have a huge library of archived Quark files. We often need to pull these from the library and open them up for various reasons, so for us, Quark is essential. That doesn't stop me from using InDesign for new projects though, which I often do.
    Thanks again.

  • Cs2 files crashing when exporting to inx

hi my name's Suzi and i have two problems with my indesign cs2.
Firstly I ftp'd some files yesterday to an editor with cs1 but she cant open them. I saved them by doing file-export-indesign interchange. i've downloaded all the updates from the website. what can I do?
Also two cs2 indd files wont export to inx - they crash every time. would someone else mind trying them for me? or any ideas what the problem might be? they were fine yesterday.
    :0)

    suzi,
If the editor on the far end can't open your CS2 .inx files, the problem is most likely that she isn't fully patched to the last 3.0.1 update (there were two with that number which confuses the issue). Keep in mind, too, that you will lose any of the unsupported features you may have used. This is not a good workflow.
File crashes on export sounds like a it might be font related. Any new fonts added to the file? How many pages are there in the document?

  • InDesign CS3 (XP SP2) crashes when placing files

    Hi,
every time I try to place an image file etc. into InDesign CS3 (Windows XP, service pack 2) the "place" dialogue pops up for a split second. Then, InDesign freezes. Version Cue is not activated (when I was activated Photoshop CS3 would do the same).
I'd be more than happy if someone has a hint since naturally InDesign is pretty useless when you cannot place anything. On a sidenote though you can drag files from the explorer into CS3 without it crashing.
    Any help's greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear the trick didn't work. Another oft mentioned idea is to open a dialog in Photoshop and resize it. A third is to hit Alt + Spacebar, then M, and then an arrow key, and finally to move the mouse around and see if the dialog appears at the edge of the screen.
The 3-key keyboard shortcut only works when you are opening InDesign from the start menu or a desktop shortcut, and you have to be REALLY fast. Renaming the prefs files (while ID is closed) is more reliable, but won't give you any indication that the files are being replaced, other than you'll see the welcome screen and everything will be reset to defaults.

  • Indesign crashes when updating a linked document

    This is a reproducible crash.
I have a indd file, several pages long with other embedded / placed indd documents inside.
When a linked file in the original documents has been changed, I naturally get a notice in the "links" tab. So far so good.
When I right-click and select "Edit original", the original document opens up and I get the usual notice if I like to update the changed link.
I select yes and save the document and close it to get back to doc I started with and then Indesign crashes.
Can this be fixed? It's extremely annoying.
    Tia.

Sphynx25 I have the exact problem and have been dealing with it for a couple years now, it's incredibly annoying. I wonder if there's some preference that would eliminate the document from automatically checking the links?? Seems this is what causes the crashes. I fiddled with what I could find in the preferences to no avail.
If you figure this one out please let me know, I'll do the same.

  • InDesign CS2 file crashing when saving or using save as

(This is on a Windows XP system)
I have a file that ran fine until the last few pages were edited. The file is a mock-up and has very few links and only 3 different fonts. The file opens fine and I can edit everything, and print. The actual program and document seem to work fine. However, when I attempt to save changes or export it crashes In Design and I get the "reference memory cannot be read" message (50%) of the time. Other times no error message is reported. Sometimes the changes have actually been saved and other times they are not. With the "save as function" I get a 50/50 return on a new file. I have tried re-naming the file, opening the file on another computer and the same thing happens. My other ID files are fine. Everything works fine until I try to save the document.
I've tried the fixes for my system like removing unnecessary fonts. I relinked all my links, changed my display resolution to "fast" to no avail. It truly seems to be an issue with the file not the program. Is there any wisdom on this issue? Ideas for how I might salvage or repair a damaged file so it can be saved?
    HELP!

Since this is isolated to a single file, try exporting it to Interchange Format (.inx), then open and save the resulting file as a new InDesign file.
Since the problem occurs during export, that may not be possible. Another option to try would be to copy all elements, page by page, and "paste in place" into a new document the same size. If you used layers, be sure to enable "paste remembers layers" in the layers panel menu.
This kind of problem is often indicative of an underlying font issue. You said there are only three fonts, and you should verify that in Type > Find Font... Try replacing, at least temporarily the fonts in use with something else that you know to be reliable from other documents. You might want to do this before the other steps.

  • CR2011 Crashes when trying to link tables

Every time I create a new report in CR2011 and try to link tables from my iSeries Access ODBC, CR2011 freezes for about 5 seconds and shuts down.  I can create new reports using different databases like csv, xlsx, dbf, and mdb and it wont crash.  If I use the iSeries ODBC with just 1 table and no linking, it wont crash.
The same ODBC works just fine with CRXI.
I can create a report with CRXI that has linked tables using the iSeries Access ODBC and save it.  When I try to open it with CR2011, it works just fine.  You can navaigate thru the different tables and modify the report without CR2011 crashing.
