File Creation Automation - Can I change encoding specs?

Hello!
So, I setup a watch folder...
1. FCServer looks at the folder and when a new file appears it encodes an M2V file.
2. It then deletes the original file.
3. It sends me an email alert.
The problem I'm having is...I don't see anywhere to increase the quality of the video file. I just need to bump it up a little and don't see anywhere to do this. I've looked both in the System Preferences pane for FCServer and in the client.
Any ideas?

Is FF downloading the file as a .txt file? If so, go to "Folder Options" in the windows control panel. Click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down until you reach the TXT file extension. Look to see what that extension opens with (lower part of panel). It probably shows notepad. Click on the <Change> button. Scroll down until you find "Microsoft Word." Select it and click the <OK> button. That should show the TXT extension is now associated with Microsoft Word. Click the <Close> button at the bottom of the panel.
If FF is downloading the file as any other type, use the same process as above except look for the corresponding extension instead. If the extension is not listed click on the <New> button and create an association using the extension in the file name and then associate it with MS Word.

Can I change Encoding used in InputStreamReader

Hi Java Gurus:
Wanted to know if I can somehow change the encoding used by InputStreamReader, the value of which I get by InputStreamReader.getEncoding().
I did change file.encoding to UTF8, but that does not change the encoding used by InputStreamReader.
I am getting garbage data when reading a chinese character from a Swing GUI. If I convert the string into a byte array using utf8 encoding, the bytes look OK, but when I print the string, it is all garbage and gets stored in the database (thru JDBC) as garbage (?)
Any pointer(s) would be a great help guys!

InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(iStream, "UTF-16")
I am getting garbage data....I don't quite follow what you're describing in this paragraph. Can you elaborate?

hi there! please never ever try to do this manual insertion prior to transforming...
use this:
t.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.ENCODING, "euc-kr");

SEARCH results - shows file name. Can I change this?

I am using TCS2 in Windows XP.
In Robohelp when you search the online help, it brings back the search results but they are displayed under the filename heading. Can I change that? I don't necessarily want my filename displayed to users... maybe the Chapter name?

I have no solution yet but am having very much the same problem, and would like to get in on this conversation while I continue experimenting. I'm working TCS2 (Frame 9 and Robo 8), linking the Frame book to Robo to create CSH. I'm a long-time Framer but a newbie to Robo and TCS2.
As far as I can tell from reading through the thread, I've got some kind of variation going: some of my CSH Search results show the heading, and some show the filename. I haven't yet discovered what is the difference in the Frame file, although I believe that's where I'll find it. It's consistent from search to search. (That is, if it a topic shows up in Search results as the filename once, it does so consistently. Ditto others showing up as the heading.)
In addition to hereby signaling moral support (!) and an interest in a solution, I'd like to provide my settings here and see how yours compare.
The marker I created to manage output CSH filenames is "FileName." I'm working with engineers who are not native English speakers and have never implemented CSH. For the 30 or so (out of 75) topics that actually are going to be linked from the application, I created FileName marker text that starts with "LinkTo_<menupath>." (Example: "LinkTo_WebSecurity_ServerSecurityGroups_Adding.") The idea is to help them see what to link up where. (It also made editing map IDs faster: I just select and automap any topic name starting with LinkTo_.)
So I'm getting Search results that look like this:

My "File > Project Settings > Edit conversion settings... > Other" settings are:
Context Sensitive Help Marker: blank
Topic Name Pattern: grayed out but is "(Default)"

Not sure this is optimum. (As I said, a Robo newbie.) Also, my chapter titles and H1 thru H3 are set up to paginate, although I realized later that filling Topic Name Marker field disables pagination.

I am working with a Japanese project in RoboHelp 10. But when I opened this project in English OS everything will be messy code, in Chrome or IE I can change Encoding to fix this issue. Anything I can do this in RoboHelp 10?

IPhone photo file name. Can you change them to the date?

Maybe this isn't possible. But I would really like to know if there is any way to change the way the iphone files the pictures that you take with the camera.
For example when you take a picture its stored in the iphone as "IMG_001". I really need to make it so its the date and time for example "08-18-08_1424".

Suddenly itunes is recognizing all book downloads as a music file. How can I change this?

Downloaded audiobooks in Itunes are suddenly recognized as music files. They are correctly listed under the books page; when I go to transfer them to the iphone they are sees as music (I think). This was a sudden change today; this has been working well.

When you sync audiobooks to your iPhone they should go into the Audiobooks tab in its Music app - is that what is, or isn't happening, to them ?
On my computer's iTunes they are in the Books part of my library, so they appear on the Books tab when syncing them to my iPhone or iPad.

Can I change encoding options?

I know in preferences I can choose between best quality and best performance, but neither of these are any good....any video I've encoded looks crappy on dvd...I've used several different players and multiple tv's. If the tv is over 46 inches everything looks crappy...if it's smaller, it looks 'ok' at best. When I encoded using Toast, things looked a lot better, but I had more control over the encoding settings. I prefer the more polished look of iDVD and love their templates. If there is a way to exercise more control over the encoding I"d love to know...

I've encoded with both Toast and iDVD, and I think iDVD is just as good, even on my 42" plasma....but with one HUGE caveat: If you are using still pictures in iMovie before going to iDVD, the encoding will be horrible if you do not use the Ken Burns efffect on all your stills.
Also, sometimes what looks like horrible encoding is actually sub-standard burning. I always "Save as Disk Image" and burn at 1X using Toast.
But the final answer to your 64$ questions is that Best Quality and Best Performance are the only two encoding options that exist in iDVD.

Folder turned into a file. How can i change it back?

I had to transfer a Ableton Live Project from an office Mac to mine via Gmail.
Sadly when i downloaded it on my computer, it was a file.
No more directory.
I tried textedit but there's NO text lines to edit... i tried UnRarX, and many other decompressors.
I would love to turn it back into a folder and workin' again.

(My intuition led me to an issue from Gmail transforming the " \ " to " / " so the folder isn't a folder anymore!

How can I change the default "file type" in the open file dialog when using Firefox on certain web pages?

I work for a bankruptcy attorney. We use the Court's file upload to file our documents. When I am on the Court's site and I have to pick a file to upload, the "open file" dialog box pops up. In Firefox, the default "file type" is always "image" files. I need it to be "all files". How can I change this setting?

Two observations.
First — "Tools-> ...." is specific to Acrobat X and XI. It did not exist prior to Acrobat X.
Second — Acrobat 9 Pro / Standard (nor earlier release) does not support viewing a PDF page containing a scanned image and performing a right-click ... Save Image As.

After iphoto makes a copy of my picture file, can i change where that copy is stored?

I would like to keep both my original files and my iphoto "shadow" files on an external drive to save space on my laptop. Once I import my pictures to iphoto, where are those new iphoto files saved? Can I change this to always save to my external drive?

the iPhoto library is a single entity - you can run it on an external drive but you can not have part of it one place and part another place
to run your library on and external drive
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

My Excel files were imported as read only files how can I change these

I am a new Mac user. When my excel files were copied over from my MS PC they have come over as read only files. How can i change these to "normal" files as they were on my PC? Thanks

When I click the lock in the bottom right corner it prompts me for my password but after unlocking it it doesn't allow me to change privelages or give me any new permissions.

Can you encrypt the rdlc xml file to keep someone from changing it?

this idea goes with my post on licensing reports. Is it possible to deploy an encrypted rdlc file and have custom SSRS pages that will decrypt it, run it, manage it, etc? We were thinking what is the point of custom SSRS pages for licensing if the rdlc is just a plain xml file any one can see, change, copy, etc.
