File disappeared upon moving to iCloud in new Numbers

Hello,
I'm working on a Mac, and have the new Yosemite.
I was working on a document in Numbers and wanted to share it over iCloud. I clicked the share menu and clicked Move the document to iCloud in order to be able to share (have done this previously in older Mac Os versions), but my file just completely disappeared. I cannot find it in Numbers (not in recents), cannot find it in Finder under iCloud Drive, cannot find it online on iCloud.com...
Can anyone tell me where to retrieve my document? Has anyone had the same issue?
Thanks

Has anyone else been in contact with Apple about this?
Yes, there have been dozens of such discussions posted on these forums since Apple announced these changes over 8 months ago.
It's truly arrogant and lacking in any sense of customer care and I'm disappointed.
Unfortunately, the Terms of Service for MobileMe made it clear Apple didn't guarantee to keep the service going forever. I've been disappointed by many subscriptions I've had to various services stopped over the years because the company providing the service decided to cease offering it. No service is guaranteed to be around forever in this world, I'm afraid.
Would love to know how others feel
Read through some of the extremely lengthy existing threads, and you'll see a wide variety of attitudes towards the changes.

  • Indesign Files disappeared upon software update!! Help! Urgent!

Today when starting indesign, i was told there is an update. I updated it, and all my Indesign CS5 files vanished.
I am using a licensed, registered version.
However, in the past I had the issue during setup and updates that it would freeze because it was seeing the registration files from Indesign CS2 which I kept the information until I can transfer the registration (i sure would like a way to simply switch the registration records for that to online so that it can be transfered when i decide and not have setup errors all the time).
Today I need to get a file to a client.. But after updating, all my CS5 files vanished. Please help! I have even ran system restore and nothing changed.
I am using Windows Vista for Business.
    Sony Vaio VGN-FE890.

I'm the only one, but I did not change the directory. it is really weird.
This is what I had done:
I closed  Adobe Bridge (as I was editing photos in photoshop)
I then removed my card reader.
I realized that I must edit part of a file because some text was not aligned.
    I clicked Indesign's shortcut.
As soon as I did, the adobe update notification came on and said that Indesign has an update available.
I let it update, then clicked the Indesign shortcut again.
All files that were previously accessed in Indesign were no longer in the "recent files" list on the splash screen when Indesign is opened.
From the files that were moved, to other files in another director that had been accessed.
The recent files list was empty..
Files in the aforementioned directory were gone, while files in another directory that I had previously accessed (with the same parent directory of "Desert Revival") remained.
The files that had disappeared were in a different subdirectory within that directory..
In fact, the files which turned out to have moved, were in a directory which I had not accessed recently.

  • Time machine backup files disappeared after moving from Osx 10.6 to 10.8.2 .

I had moved from a 6+ year old iMac to a new one with 10.8.2

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I don't think that they have disappeared. They are just "hidden" in your Time Machine drive because Time Machine detects your old backups as for a different Mac than the one you are using right now.
In order to see your old Time Machine backups, read > http://pondini.org/TM/E3.html

  • Files Disappear after moving, but still take up space

    Hi,
I have a folder of about 50gb of files. Using xterm I moved it to a hidden folder: "mv folderName .folderName". Then I tried to move it back by "mv .folderName folderName"
The folder itself seemed to move fine, however, it now is empty. However, if I click on "get info" in the finder on the folder, then it tells me that it is over 50gb in size, even though no files appear to be inside it. I have tried "ls -a" in the folder, but my files do not show. I have also tried to fix the drive using DiskWarrior, but it has had no effect.
This is in fact the second time this has happened. Last time I resorted to deleting the folder, and all my files (which freed the disk space fine). However, I would prefer to have the files back.
Is there a way to get at the files?
    Thanks,
    Michal.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi
Using xterm I moved it to a hidden folder: "mv folderName .folderName". Then I tried to move it back by "mv .folderName folderName"Were these the exact commands you used? If not, please post what they were. In which folder did you start? Please give the full path to where this is.
Also, did the destination folder exist before you gave the mv command? Likewise, did "folderName" exist before you tried to move it back?
Last time I resorted to deleting the folder, and all my filesHmm… and this worked even though ls -a showed no files? You might try this, from inside the folder:
rm -i *and reply "N" or "n" to each prompt (when you're tired of this, press Control-C to stop it).
Another option would be to download WhatSize and see if this helps you find the 50GB of files.

  • IPhone calendar entries disappeared from the iPhone when I moved to iCloud on my iMac...

I migrated from MobileMe to iCloud on my iMac, which runs Lion.  I have an iPhone 3G (not 3GS), so I can't upgrade to iOS5.  I know that my iPhone Calendar won't sync with iCloud; however, all the calendar entries iPhone calendar entries have disappeared.  I thought that all entries made up to the time of moving to iCloud are supposed to remain on the iPhone calendar, and subsequent to moving to iCloud, I'd have to make calendar entries in iPhone manually (with not sync with iCloud possible).
What happend to all my calendar en

Thanks Winston, after I posted the question I went into iTunes to sync and update the iPad and it came to me that I should be able to change the credit card info here.. and I could.  I realize I cannot use the iCloud on my iMac, but right now I cannot purchase and new computer and the current one is too old to handle the memory requirements of Lion.  Again, thanks for your help.

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

  • Files disappear when creating a new folder

I'm new to mac....got a macbook this week. I'm in Iraq so I have very limited access to anything. No internet for my mac at the moment...so I can't update even if there are ones. I assume I have the currenct version of everything though. The question...
While switching over my files I decided to reorganize them. I'm working on my external HD and creating many new folders for all my files. On numerous occasions now (4) I have created a new file the standard way...right click>new>file...then named it. On these occasions I have done this it has renamed the previous file I had worked in (even though it was not selected) and then the contents of the file disappeared. This leaves me with the new file I created and another identical file of the same name...now with nothing in it. Some of my files I have backed up, but the last one deleted many videos that I didn't. Happens randomly at no particular time. If I select the file and view its contents often it will briefly change its name back to the original name, but still nothing in it. Then next selection of anything will switch it back. Have not been able to fine the files anywhere. Tired of losing my files. Any ideas??? Thanks.

Hi Craig and Welcome to Apple Discussions....
First of all, thank you for all you are doing. It's so appreciated! Just be safe and come home soon.
Now... I have a feeling your external hard drive is the culprit. Read here:
    Changing the names of items
You can easily change the name of a file, folder, or disk on your computer.
IMPORTANT: To avoid problems using Mac OS X or applications on your computer, don't move or change the names of folders that came with your system (such as the Library folder or your home). You should also not change the names of applications or items associated with specific applications. If you accidentally change the name of an installed item and you experience problems, you can change the name back.
Locate the item you want to rename on your desktop or in a Finder window.
Click the item to select it, then click the name. The name is highlighted and you will be able to edit it.
Type the new name and press Return.
Some document names have a file extension, such as ".txt" or ".jpg." If you change the name of a file and delete the extension, some applications may no longer recognize the file. To ensure the file can be recognized by the application that created it, change only the part of the name that comes before the extension, or open the file using the appropriate application, then save the file with a new name.
You cannot change the name of an item in the Finder window's sidebar. You must locate the item on your desktop or in a Finder window to highlight and change the name.
    And more here:
Getting information about files and folders
You can view and modify information about files, applications, and volumes in the Info window. This information can include:
Comments that Spotlight can search on
Who can view and modify the item.
The applications that can open it.
Metadata that describes a file's contents and how it was created. For example, a photo's Info window may contain the picture's dimensions, exposure time, and the make and model of the camera.
To see information for one or more items, select the items and choose File > Get Info. An Info window opens for each selected item.
To see a summary of information about several items, select the items then hold down the Control key as you choose File > Get Summary Info. A window summarizes information on all selected items, including their total size.
To see information about each item as you select it, select one of the items then hold down the Option key as you choose File > Show Inspector. An Inspector window displays information on the selected item. When you select another item, the Inspector's contents are replaced with information on that item.
I realize that's a lot to digest and your time might be limited. This is something that only takes a few minutes and might help immediately.
Go to MacintoshHD/Applications/Utilities and locae Disk Utility. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left and then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Depending on the size of your drive, it should only take a few minutes. When it's finished, Quit Disk Utility from the Menu.
Here's how to find out exactly which Mac OS you are running. Click the Apple logo top left of your screen then click, About This Mac. A pane will open. Just under "Mac OS X" will be the version number. ie., 10.4.x
Reboot your MacBook and see if this helps.... I'm retired and have time... if you need one on one help e-mail me: [email protected]
It's the least I can do

I tried to rename a file, it gave me an error message (can't remember the number - 43??) and then the file disappeared from the original folder. When I do a search, the file comes up under the new name, but it does not show a path, and even though preview shows the contents, I can't open the document (Powerpoint) and I can't move the document. I tried "Copy" and paste but it doesn't work. I tried "Share" with Airdrop and iChat, but the file is inaccessible. When i try to rename the file, it says the filename is too long.
When I try to open it, it says the alias is not good, and asks if I want to fix the alias. I'm afraid to do that and lose all access to this document.
Right now, it feels like a ghost document - it is on the computer intact, but it is in an undisclosed location and inaccessible.
    Please help!!

I was able to resolve this by repairing permissions, even though no permissions error was listed specifically for that file.
I could also have recovered it through Time Machine, but I'm interested in knowing how not to have this happen again!
I was afraid of rebooting and possibly losing track even of the ghost.
I did not try EasyFind - I'll keep that in mind next time.
    Thanks for all the comments.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you mean you deleted the files from Pages on your phone whilst using iCloud, then yes they will disappear from Pages on your iPad too.
If you simply deleted the app from your phone, if you were using iCloud then they should not have disappeared from your iPad.
It's not clear from your post, which of these you did.

I guess you could try but I don't believe Apple can help with activation lock issues.  They may, however, be able to determine if the Apple ID belongs to one of you and reset the password for you if you can prove your identity.
You might want to try calling Apple by going to https://expresslane.apple.com; click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'.  In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.  Perhaps they can help determine if it's your ID and reset the password for you (and they probably have more expertise in doing this than the Apple store).

  • I need to transfer my old ipad to my new ipad thro windows cos the files are to large for icloud?

i need to transfer my old ipad to my new ipad thro windows cos the files are to large for icloud? how do i do that? am very green at these matters!!

Connect your iPad to your computer in iTunes. Under the iPad settings under summary, check the box that says backup to this computer. Click apply. Then when you connect the new iPad you can restore that backup on the new one.

My phone on contract with t-mobile . Thanks

You can't have content in iCloud without having it on your phone, you will need to look at deleting items from your device that you don't need. Movies and TV shows from iTunes are possibly a good start because they tend to be large and can be redownloaded at a later date.

  • HT204053 I started using iCloud on all my Apple products before MobileMe shut down, setting up a new ID and password to do that.  When MobileMe moved to iCloud, it became my primary account for iCloud and is interfering with everything I had done before.

I started using iCloud on all my Apple products, using a new password and ID, before MobileMe shut down.  Apparently I shouldn't have done that, because when MobileMe moved to iCloud, it automatically became my primary account and took over everything I had previously set up on my iCloud account.  I would like to eliminate the MobileMe account, but I can't find a way to do it.  Anyone have any experience with this?  It's making me very frustrated with iCloud.

The primary account is the one signed into in System Preferences>iCloud (or on an iPhone Settings>iCloud). If it isn't the account you want to use, simply sign out and the sign back in with the required account. On signing out your data will be removed from your Mac but not from the iCloud server.
If you want to you can sign in with the other account in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars - you can sync that account's email, contacts and calendars and they will appear alongside the equivalent data in the primary account.
The main differences are that the secondary account's email will not be 'pushed' but will be checked periodically, and the secondary account cannot use PhotoStream.
