File dissapears after transfering through finder...

This is starting to get to me. I have two finder windows open, im transfering a file from one finder window to another finder window(on our internal network at work, this also is occuring when uploading to our FTP through the finder) and after appearing to have succesfully transfered the file goes poof! dissapears. It is not cosmetic because i've checked on another comp as a different user and it is not there. Pleeeeaassee help.

Try cutting and pasting the file/s.

It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Can't access files on my desktop through finder - everything greyed out.

On my home iMac whenever I navigate to my desktop through finder everything is greyed out with a little grey ring next to it. Its only an issue for navigating to the files through finder.

Where can I see details of the different "event" files created after transferring my old camcorder tapes to i-movie?

Yesterday I transferred a couple of camcorder mini dv tapes to i-movie. For each tape transferred a new "event" file was created. Where on the system can I see details of these files (format, size of file etc) . Many thanks. Angus

iMovie has a very ... elaborated .. iffy internal file management; e.g. changing file's names or locations OUTSIDE Imovie/in Finder instantly corrupts file management, events get lost, projects kaputt.
All iM related files are stored upon your main drive, 'Movies'/'iMovie Projects' and /'iMovie Events' ...

Files Dissapear after Setting Inherit Permission Model

Our workgroup was continually having read only problems working on files that we each had created locally.
After reading this:
When to use Inherit Permissions
Generally, a share point should use the standard permissions model, since it will make new files in the same manner as those created locally on a client volume. Some programs may depend on this, even when storing data files on a network volume.
However, if your use of the server includes the need to share and communally-edit data files such as word processing documents, graphics, or other application program data, use Inherit Permissions on the share point that stores the shared data.
Warning: Inherit Permissions should never be used on a share point that hosts users' home directories.
I created a test share point and changed the permissions to inherit. Success! All documents that we placed on the server at this point were able to be edited and saved by various users.
I applied these same settings to the rest of our server and our most recent project folder vanished!
Our files are in a folder inside the Users folder on the server, is that the reason why we had this problem? Should our share point be somewhere else on the server?
Any help would be appreciated.

Check if you have the Adobe PCD and SLStore folder available under /Library/Application Support/Adobe. Is so, then follow the solutions mentioned unde the below article.

If you donot see those folders, you might have accidently deleted them. Re-install will be the best option.

All desktop files dissapeared after sharing

Recently I shared the desktop on my Macbook Air (mountain lion) so I could copy a file I had on my iMac (Mavericks) over the net.
Everything was ok and I could see the shared folder on my iMac so I copied over the file and waited until it was done but when I checked the Macbook air's desktop all previous files and folders were GONE!
I could only see the newly copied file.
I tried searching for the files all over my Macbook without any luck. The trash had some previous files there and it was not emptied so there was no deletion at all, but for some reason the files are not there.
Now, when I get the info for my user in the Macbook Air I see it is about 7.5Gb, but when I get the info on the individual folders, the total amount is about 3.5Gb, which means the files must be there somewhere.
I enabled the root user so I could make a search in the hard drive in case there was a permissions issue but could not find them either. I also ran a recovery tool but it didnt find any of the files.
I recreated the user as instructed and still no luck!
Any help will be appreciated!

Hey John, sorry to hear about your issue. It sounds pretty baffling.
Let's see if we can isolate the problem. Go to the desktop and right click=>Get Info. Is the "Locked" box towards the middle checked? Under "Sharing & Permissions" at the bottom of the window, are the privileges of your current user account listed as "Read only?"

I deleted files from the library through finder

Now the files still show up in iphoto but if I double click it, it shows a broken image. In addition if I try to delete it (move it to the trash) is beeps at me
I have even tried to command option start IPhoto with no luck either.
any clues on how I can remedy this.

Help? I had to do an erase and reloaded the software on my 2008 imac, and did a file transfer from my time capsule using the migration assistant. I see where the files are, but have no access...can anyone help me ? how do I now get access to the files that I transfered?

Were you trying to access it via either Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant? If those don't work, you still may be able to use the "Star Wars" display to see and restore some data. It all depends on just what and where the damage is.

Correct; Time Machine protects it's backups with very restrictive ACLs, basically "nobody can do anything," so us mere mortals won't damage them.
If you use the same user account on the same Mac that did the backup, via the Finder, you should have read rights, and you may be able to copy from the backups.

Yes. Each of those date-stamped backup folders should contain a set of "hard links" to the backup copies of everything that was on your system at the time of that backup, no matter when each item was actually backed-up. If you can copy the most recent one successfully, that will get everything.
The iPhoto Library looks like a file; but it's actually a special kind of folder called a "package." If you can't copy it, right-click it and select Show Package Contents to see inside it, but don't copy individual items except as a last resort -- at best, you'll recover raw photos, with no organization or data, and probably no editing, either.

FCP text dissapears after Compressed

Running Dual G5 that shipped with Tiger. I'm using the FCP4 package and DVDSP3.
Compressor has been doing two things that it was not doing with Panther.
1. Text crawls created in FCP dissapear after going through Compressor MPEG 2 high quality process (FCP regular text does not dissapear)
2. Chapter markers are not retained either.
Previously I had problems with Tiger doing weird stuff with DVDSP, but apple put out a patch to correct it.
Any ideas or solutions for the above two problems? (I've already read other similar threads - unfortunately none of the suggestions helped my problem and the folks weren't using the same versions of software)

i've seen your video and your text seems fine to me. are you planning to ever have this broadcast on television? if so then there may be an issue. but if everything is webcast then it looks fine. i'd tell you to view everything on an NTSC monitor before air but i'm not sure if you are going to need it.
you mentioned that when you 'watch it full screen' that the text looks bad. do you mean full screen on youtube or fullscreen on your comp monitor? how big of a monitor is it? everything will look like garbage if you expand it beyond the size that it was intended for. it's like, HD stops being HD if you look at it on a huge monitor. pixels get larger and you lose definition.

Files won't display in finder after updating to Mavericks

Have upgraded to Mavericks. Went to finder found the folder I use daily opened it and there are no sub folders or files displaying. I have done a search, they are still on my mac. Obviously I don't remember all my file names so how do I display sub folders and files in finder now? Some advice/help would be appreciated.

Since I upgraded to Mavericks I am having issues!
Menu bar wont show anymore on desktop, I am not using anything, no application. Just turn on the mac and there you go, I have no Menu bar. It just shows for 3 seconds then goes away forever!
My files and folders same issue, they dissapears after 3 seconds!
At the log in window where you type your password to turn the computer, it will not let me type in, i have to click I dont know how many million times then it would let me!
I installed a game and the game window won't saty, it would kick me to desktop window after 3-4 seconds that i am in the game!
and also Finder wont work!
SO, LOTS OF ISSUES!
My question is, is there a way to fix these things, if not how do I go back to previous OS without losing anything on my mac?

How to create a positve pay file for ACH and Wire transfers through F110

I need to create a positive pay file for ACH and Wire transfers to the bank for auto clearing. For checks we have a standard program (RFCHKE00) to create the positive pay file which creates the output lists after the F110 payment process. Is there any standard SAP program available which creates the Positive pay file (Output list) for ACH and wire transfers through F110.

Please let your abaper create a 'Z' program using RFCHKE00. For example 'ZRFCHKE00' and use it in the same way as you currently use RFCHKE00 for checks.
After the program is created, use SE38 and save it as a variant using your own specifications. Thereafter, in F110, when carrying out a payment run, under 'Printout/data medium', enter the program name under "Lists" with the variant. Then click on 'Maintain Variants' and make the necessay specifications there as well.
Instruct your end-users to enter this program when running ACH and wire transactions through F110.

@Moorthy – can you tell us a bit more? By mentioning "folio", I think you are referring to Adobe Digitial Publishing Suite (ADPS or short: DPS). If yes:
1. Do you want to analyze Folio files *.folio and get the linked web content files?
2. Or do you want to check an InDesign file with an overlay and check what files are linked as web content?
3. Or something else?
Where is your base problem?
Packaging the InDesign files and copy/relinking the web content files after the packaging process?

The acsm file is not the book, it is a ticket to get the book. I sometimes get library books online, here is what I do.
1. Start ADE on the computer
2. Go to library website and find the book I want to download.
3. Click on the download link
4. In windows 7 a box opens asking whether I want to open( or run) or save the acsm file
5. Click open/run and ADE downloads the book into the "Library"
6. Transfer the book (epub file) to the reader.

Mac is enabling selective file opening after filter transfer on windows. Now it shows the newly transfered file however it cant be opened on the mac, pls help

recently i bought a new WD 1tb hard drive to help me store more files from my mac. However as i need some files to be transfered from my old drive to my new one and since it will take ages as i have 120gb worth of pictures hence i let my laptop (pc) do the work while i used my mac to work. After completion, i realise when i connect to my new hard drive with the old files transfered in it. I can see all the files new ones which i transfer from my mac and old files from one old hard drive to the new one via the pc. The new files can be open and view with no dramas, sadly i cant say the same with the old files. I can see the folder but i cant open the folders let alone open the files. On the pc however no such drama, pls help.

If I understand correctly you used your PC to copy files to an external HDD while you worked on your Mac, now when accessing your external HDD, you cannot access those files. Is this correct?
If yes, the problem likely lies in how your HDD was formatted. Mac and Windows use different systems. If your HDD is NTFS or FAT, you should be able to read it with Mac, but you won;t be able to write to NTFS.
A better way to transfer files to that external for use with your Mac is to format the drive using your Mac, connect both computers to your network and share the folder you need to copy files from on your PC. Connect to the folder in Finder on your Mac and copy them over to the external.

Something really odd is going on. In your first screen shot, I noticed that the Applications folder does not have the proper icon displayed in the side bar. Also, in the title bar it lists it as Applications 08-59-29-909.
Not sure where it's picking up that odd name, unless it's because it's still truly within the Trash folder.
Try this. In the Finder > Preferences > General > turn on "Always open folders in a new window". (I have a feeling you have the default setting with this off).
Now, in Finder > Go > move down and open the Applications Folder from there. Now open the folder where you see all your applications that you show in your screen shot, select all, and move them to this true appliactions folder.
This is what you should properly seeing (but with different apps listed):
See how the Applications folder has the icon of the letter A shaped with a pencil, ruler & pen.
