File Downloads Stop

I have a 2010 Mac Mini, running Lion (although the problem existed on Snow Leopard).  Network functionality seems to be fine except for download files, either in a browser (tried several) or using Software Update.  The download starts, gets a meg or two into it and just stops.  Sometimes it will pick up a little, then stop again.  Not always in the same place.  Happens with both wired and wireless connections.  Other Macs on the network have no issues.
It's NOT losing connectivity, I can continue browsing while the download is stuck.
Can't find anything online, any suggestions?

Hey @silvergc, I've tried caffeine for a while and it seems to work, but what I've been trying to set up is some default pass for my torrent client — much as iTunes automatically prevents my MB from going to sleep while playing music.
For this purpose, I've used both $ pmset and $ caffeinate commands in Terminal (see: http://useyourloaf.com/blog/2012/08/09/keeping-mountain-lion-awake.html ) but unfortunately the end result is pretty much the same: if I quit Terminal the power assertion is cancelled and computer sleeps after preset interval of time.
(= whether using Caffeine, caffeinate commands or setting system preferences to "never" sleep, I end up having to manually configure/set this up every time, and turn off on task completion.)
I just wish there was a simpler way... Ideally, my Mac would sense when download is completed and then go to sleep (i.e. regardless if is still uploading). Any suggestions anyone?
@Jon I find it a bit weird that your computer stops downloading even on screen sleep (CPU still awake) since I haven't experienced this myself — can you tell me a bit more about the problem?

    I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
    I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
    Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.

  • Web browsing and file downloads stops

    Hi Guys,
    I've been looking at a few posts but not seen the answer yet.  I'd be grateful if someone could help me out or point me in the right direction.
    I had BT Infinity 2 installed with the HH5 on Friday.  I have problems with browsing web pages.  When I click a link most of the time the page loads quickly without issue, but then occassionally the page wont load and the page will 'stick'.  It sometimes take 30-60 seconds for the page to fully load, or there is a timeout.  Usually, by reloading the page it resolves this and the page loads really quickly again but within a minute you will have the same issue.
    Also, I have downloaded a few files, from 300mb to 1gb.  Just like web browsing, the file download will stop and the only way to resume the download is to reboot the HH5.  I had to reboot the HH5 five times to download the full 1gb file.  I checked the connection and it's not dropping so I wonder why the connection just stops or sticks for a while.
    I know it can take a while for the connection to settle down but it shouldn't stop working.
    Am hoping someone could help me out with this as i need this for my business.
    With thanks,

    I would leave it alone for the next few days and do not keep restarting the Homehub. This will cause DLM (Dynamic Line Management) to kick in and lower your speeds because it will interpret the restarts as a fault. It is normal for the speeds to fluctuate during the training period. If things do not improve after the ten day training period post back for more advice.

  • Mountain lion install; now file downloads stop

    Since I've installed mountain lion, when I download larger files from the web (apps or music) and the computer is left inactive during the download, the download uncerimoniously stops.
    I'm using a wireless connection (same one I had before installing mountain lion).
    I've forbidden the computer from going to sleep for one hour (display still goes to sleep at default 15 minutes). This hasn't helped the problem at all. It seems that if I am not using the machine (a 2011 imac) and any download is active.... it does not remain so.
    This can be quite annoying when downloading larger files.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Firefox stops responding after file download

    After I download a file, Firefox stops responding and I have to wait for around 10 seconds before I can use it again.
    This also happens when I'm using "Download them all"

    That can be a problem with your AV software. Firefox let your default anti-virus program scan the file after the download has finished.

  • Cisco IPS 4240 stops file downloads at 90%

    Hi everybody. I have a Cisco IPS 4240 with version 7.0.4 installed and upgraded to the last signature. But since it was installed i have the issue with some file downloads because the IPS stops the file at 90-99% of download percentage (in some cases, not all), The ips is inline in front of firewall, some partner say me that i have to change the mode to promiscuous for the solution of the issue, but i think that if the IPS was designed for work inline, i dont have to change anything and maybe some expert of the forum have the correct answer.  Or this issue have solution with configuration changes.
    Sorry by my write english.... I try to find some signature that causes the issue but if i disabled the sensor, the issue occurs. The firewall is not the problem because if i connect a laptop in front of the firewall and behind of IPS the issue occurs too. Well i have now some months trying of find a solution. In the page of Cisco not find some similar.... [:-(
    Pd. An example of files that stop when downloads is Apple Itunes... or Microsoft Patch, or Vmware software by example.
    Thanks for your response are greatly appreciated.

    Thnaks for your help this is the last packets before freeze the download:
    The size of the download with problems is random, sometimes ocurrs with small size downloads sometimes ocurrs with large downloads. The download of the example have 47 MB, I think that the traffic is dropped and the tcp conn timeout. Do you see some anomalies in this traffic portion?.

  • Download stopped after hitting "save file"?

    Hi,
    My latest download stopped after hitting "save file" and I have no idea what to do about it??

    More information would be very useful.
    What were you downloading?
    Which operating system?

  • When downloading large files thay stop at approx 7 Mb.

    When I download large files they stop at approx 7 Mb. They can be paused and restarted. They then carry on and will then stop at other random sizes. Repeating the pause restart enables the download to complete.
    What can be done to fix this?
    Cheers
    Paul

    I think I may have solved this. I needed to turn off RFC1323, by adding it to sysctl.conf.
    If sysctl.conf doesn't exist in /etc then you just create it, use vi or pico.
    search the discussion forums here for references to speedguide.net and make sure you see something like the following...
    Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
    Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 65535

  • When in Outlook I constantly get Firefox file download prompts. I cannot stop this - please help.

    The file downloads are always different but have the following pattern of digits: 8-4-4-11.
    If I save the file (they seem to range in size from 6 kb to 30 kb)
    there is nothing there when I open it.

    Hi ljwayne,
    Please make sure that it is not an add on by restarting in Safe Mode: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
    If this continues you can right click on the window and click on "Page Info". From there you can manage the permissions of pop ups from that site.
    If it is already blocked please do a virus scan to make sure there is not a virus or adware. For mac I used to use bitdefender.
    Last troubleshooting I can think of: try a new profile. [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]

  • DownloadServlet or alternative method for file download

    I have searched the forums for this topic and have seen one other posting from someone having the same problem (with no response). I can not get the oracle.jsp.webutil.fileaccess.DownloadServlet to fully function. Using the file access example code that is installed with iAS and following the instructions in the manual "Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE JSP Tag Libraries and Utilities Reference 10g (9.0.4)" I can get the file upload to work just fine (both to a file and to the database). However with the file download it stops short of working. It will access the DownloadServlet and list the files that have been uploaded, but when you try to follow the link that it creates you get a "400 Bad Request"
    If you look at the URL it creates I see what I think is a problem
    Here is a clip of code from dbBeanDownloadExample.jsp that creates the URL
    The following files were found:
    <% Enumeration fileNames = dbean.getFileNames();
    while (fileNames.hasMoreElements()) {
    String name = (String)fileNames.nextElement();
    %>
    <br><a href="<%= servletPath + name +
        ?"+FileAccessUtil.SRCTYPE_PARAM + "=" + dbean.getSourceType() +
    "&"+FileAccessUtil.TABLE_PARAM + "=" + dbean.getTable() +
    "&"+FileAccessUtil.PREFIX_COL_PARAM + "=" + dbean.getPrefixColumn() +
    "&"+FileAccessUtil.DATA_COL_PARAM + "=" + dbean.getDataColumn() +
    "&"+FileAccessUtil.FNAME_COL_PARAM + "=" + dbean.getFileNameColumn() +
    "&"+FileAccessUtil.FILETYPE_PARAM + "=" + dbean.getFileType() %> ">
    <%= name %></a>
    <% } %>
    and here is one of the URLs
    http://iasserver.here.com:7779/ojspdemos/servlet/download/beanexample\fields.txt?srcType=database&fileType=binary&table=fileaccess&prefixCol=fileprefix&fileNameCol=filename&dataCol=data
    The problem I see is the fileprefix (from the upload) "beanexample" and the filename "fields.txt" is appended to the end of the servlet "download", while the rest of the parameters to the DownloadServlet are passed in the proper manner "srcType=database". I have been unable to find any documentation on the DownloadServlet so I don't know if there are setters for the fileprefix or the filename.
    This example code has been out for sometime, I know it was with iAS 9.0.2. Has any one been successful implementing the download of a file from the database using the oracle.jsp.webutil.fileaccess.HttpDownloadBean or the tag?
    Certainly Oracle must test this stuff before they release it. At some point I think this must have work.

    Larry, the DownloadServlet certainly worked at some point of time as ensured by the automated tests. It should work all the time, I believe, unless......
    The problem I see is the fileprefix (from the upload)
    "beanexample" and the filename "fields.txt" is appended to > the end of the servlet "download", while the rest of the
    parameters to the DownloadServlet are passed in the proper > manner "srcType=database". I have been unable to find any
    documentation on the DownloadServlet so I don't know if
    there are setters for the fileprefix or the filename.A nice observation. That is the root cause of the problem, I believe. Actually, the documentation is right there in the example dbBeanDownloadExample.jsp. You should use
      String name = (String)fileNames.nextElement()).replace('\\','/');
    as in the example instead of
      String name = (String)fileNames.nextElement();
    Well, I will check if this point of changing '\' to '/' have been made explicitly in the documentation. That kind s of tiny point is sometimes really a killer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Pdf files download with .file extension thus wont open as a pdf

    Hi , when I try to download a pdf document with Firefox, the file downloads but add a .file extension thus wont open as a pdf.
    I do not know if this is relevant but if you try to get the file to open with adobe viewer by telling the pc to open this type of file always with adobe viewer, nothing happens the tick box is greyed out, however if I double click the adobe viewer icon it will quite happily open the downloaded file as a pdf

    The next time you download, STOP, and double check the full name of the file.
    Firefox would not change the file name. But an add-on could.
