File .dv and aTV in streaming

Hi everybody.
I edit my domestic films with FCExpress HD, and make a .dv file, I have QT 7.2, and try see the films in aTV by streaming. This I do open dv file in QT and export to appleTV it's create a m4v file, I put it on iTunes, see it LCD Sony TV, but..... hang the video each 10 seconds the streaming don't work. It is impossible se mine family records.
I have a MBP 17", 2.33 Mhz, 2 Gb RAM, and Airport Extreme
What are doing wrong ??
Original file is .dv (FCE) and end file is .m4v (QT). I try too with VisualHub and same results, bad. Size 4:3 PAL
THX in advance

Does the file play back fine in iTunes?
Sync the problem file to test if it plays ok from the hard drive.
AppleTV is fussy about the movie format, and you ideally need either h.264 or mpeg-4 file as follows:
=========================================================
Video formats supported
* H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
* iTunes Store purchased video: 320 by 240 pixels or 640 by 480 pixels
* MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
Audio formats supported
* AAC (16 to 320 Kbps); protected AAC (from iTunes Store); MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps); MP3 VBR; Apple Lossless; AIFF; WAV
==========================================================
It might be that your converted file is close to these specs but just a bit too high a bitrate for streaming to work ok - what are the encoded m4v file bitrates and other parameters?

  • Can FFmpeg produce f4f, f4x and f4m files instead of Adobe's File Packager for HTTP Dynamic Streaming?

    I need a command tool to produce f4f , f4x and f4x files. And I know Adobe's File Packager. But I'd like to use FFmpeg(Because it's opensource) to produce those files. I am not sure whether FFmpeg can produce f4f , f4x and f4x files for HTTP Dynamic Streaming or not. My goal is to achieve HTTP Dynamic Streaming in Linux with opensource tool instead of Adobe Flash Media Server.

    Isn't the packager part of Flash Media Server?

    We are trying to close caption our telecasts. We get the captioning files done out of house, pull them back into Premiere, and then embed them. The TV station requires .mxf files with the file embedded as a 708 stream, to play on their Grass Valley K2 video servers. We have tried multiple scenarios and cannot get the captions to display.
    Whenever I export, it becomes a 608 stream, and will not play on their servers.

    Hello there,
    I'm sorry to hear you are having a problem. Thank you for taking the time to post here.
    Here are some questions:
    1. What version of PPRO are you using? MAC or WIN?
    2. Is the caption data you are embedding a 708 caption stream?
    3. When you re-import the MXF with captioning embedded back into PPRO, does it show 708 closed captions in PPRO?
    PPRO will embed 708 caption streams to MXF -- I just did this, re-imported the embedded MXF to PPRO, and I see the captions in the MXF.
    If you could share one of your files with me, I could take a look.
    Take care and thanks again,
    CM

  • Can't Get ATV to Stream from iTunes

    OK, I can't get my ATV to stream from my iTunes. when I initially set up the ATV, it synced to my iTunes. I actually don't recall any option to sync or stream, but makbe I missed it.
    Anyway, the help says the following:
    "Playing your iTunes library on your TV using Apple TV
    If you have an Apple TV, you can stream items from your iTunes library to your TV. You can also sync your Apple TV with your iTunes library so that content is automatically loaded onto your Apple TV.
    Syncing your Apple TV with iTunes
    If your Apple TV is synced with an iTunes library, it is already set up for streaming. You can also stream items from an iTunes library that isn't synced with your Apple TV. You can stream from up to five iTunes libraries, plus the library the Apple TV is synced with.
    To set up your Apple TV for streaming:
    Make sure the computer you want to stream from is on, and iTunes is open.
    On your Apple TV, choose Sources, choose "Connect to New iTunes," and make a note of the passcode displayed.
    In iTunes, select the Apple TV with "Click to set up" next to it, and enter the passcode.
    While content is being streamed, the computer must remain on and iTunes must remain open. If you stream content while Apple TV is syncing, the sync pauses until streaming stops.
    You can stream from only one iTunes library at a time. To stream from a different library, choose Sources on your Apple TV and then choose another source."
    Now, here is the problem:
    1. It says "If your Apple TV is synced with an iTunes library, it is already set up for streaming." NOT. No where do I see any stream or share selection. Only sync.
    2. It says "You can stream from up to five iTunes libraries, plus the library the Apple TV is synced with." Again, not that I can see.
    3. It says "On your Apple TV, choose Sources, choose "Connect to New iTunes," and make a note of the passcode displayed." I don't have a "Sources" option anywhere in ATV. How am I supposed to select it?? All I have is a "Computers" selection, which shows me my current selected computer for synching, and another option to share a library, with a new passcode. But, only to a second computer, not my main one (where all the files are!).
    I don't understand. It's like it's referring to some other device, with different menus. Now, I have ver 2.0 of ATV, and 7.6 of iTunes. WHAT IS GOING ON?
    I purchased this thing to take advantage of streaming, for photos and video. I only bought the 32 GB unit, but even the 160 would not be bug enough to have all my photos and HD video. So, streaming is a must. But, it would be nice to also sync the music files so I can listen to them without having the computer on. If the thing functed like the manual says, I would be happy. But, it doesn't.
    HELP!!

    Good news- this is all so much simpler that you think. (I know because I too struggled with it for days.) It turns ou that you have to do NOTHING to set up streaming with 2.0. Once you have synced your computer, just leave your computer running and on your TV using ATV you will see whatever movies you have imported into iTunes in the movie menu even if you have not synced them. The only way that you can tell that they are not synced is that when you select them to play the streaming bar will appear briefly at the bottom of your TV screen to indicate that it is being synced. If you turn your computer off the movie that you have chosen would not even appear in the menu.
    Hope this helps- it is too bad apple doesn't give more info about using ATV!

  • Get a Samsung HDTV and ATV or wait for the latest model?

    A newbie to HDTV, video and ATV.
    I have almost decided to buy the Samsung 50" plasma HDTV PN50A650. But have discovered that Samsung has a new model PN50A760 with added capabilities for playing video and wireless networking.
    Connectivity is an issue to me. Spending all the green on a HDTV, I do not want it to be obsolete in 4 years. What if I get a digital camcorder? Or Apple introduces a flat-rate movie-rental scheme? My options:
    OPTION A) Wait a few months until the $500 premium for the new model drops.
    Some excerpts for reviews of the latest 760 model:
    "The 7 series can playback video content stored on a USB device while the 6 series are limited to images and audio."
    (Naively, I thought that all HDTVs should be able to play back video.)
    "The 7 Series can stream audio, video and pictures over your home network."
    "The TV recognizes not only MP3 and JPEG files but also XviD and MPEG4 files to enjoy video playback."
    "The TV can also reach out to your home network and play back photos, videos and music stored on networked computers. You'll need to install special software, included with the TV, onto your PC." This could be some very basic software. Suitable for Macs?
    "While this feature seems pretty cool, it's not as good as similar functionality built into a PS3 or an Xbox 360, let alone that of a dedicated network media streamer like Apple TV. Despite being billed as DLNA-compliant, the TV won't play nice with DLNA server software like Windows Media Player 11 or TVersity, so you're stuck with the included proprietary software. Samsung's software is basic..." (Compatibility with Macs?)
    OPTION B) Buy the older model and then, add ATV. The total cost will be less and I think, the video playback (through my iMac?) and networking capabilities (2Wire Wi-Fi) will be much better. But I see there have been problems between ATV and Samsung HDTV.
    Isn't the combo with ATV a much more capable and flexible (and cheaper) long-term solution? Which Samsung is unlikely to match?
    Thanks for your valuable advice! (Urgent for the X-Mas season!)

    Winston, I think you're missing my points:
    1) If you're interested in a device for watching HD video, then you can compare the AppleTV and Blu-Ray. You then have to look at what other features they provide, or don't provide as the case may be, and decide. I was just giving my opinion on an alternative.
    2) There was no detailed information given as to what the streaming capabilities were and so I was giving my opinion again.
    To say that there is little difference quality wise between current HD broadcasts (even if some are 1440x1080i) and the maximum output of the AppleTV at 1280x720 shows a total lack of experience on your part of watching HD broadcasts on a TV capable of 1920x1080, or a lack of appreciation of the better detail contained in the picture. It's like comparing AppleTV HD at 1280x720 with DVD PAL native resolution of 720x576 and saying there is little difference quality wise. But then if you look at the US market where 30fps is standard, the AppleTV cannot support resolutions higher than 960x540, and then you really are lowering the benefits of the AppleTV over DVD quality, and the difference between the AppleTV and HD broadcasts is even bigger.
    I have compared video from HD broadcast at 1920x1080 with the same video converted down to 1280x720 on the AppleTV, and the loss of detail is noticeable, especially when watching on a 40" TV, not an uncommon size these days with them being used with games consoles. Before you comment, no it is nothing to do with how I convert them, there is just physically far fewer pixels available. I much prefer watching 1920x1080 through my Media PC than watching 1280x720 through my AppleTV.
    Also, as we all know it happens, there is software available freely on the internet - no names will be mentioned - that allow the convertion of movies from DVD to a PC, and likewise from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray to a PC. So reality is that it's available now and with the cost of 1TB and 1.5TB HDDs so cheap, the potential for a 1920x1080 resolution video collection for playing on a 1920x1080 TV is already there. Saying it's not going to happen 'any time soon' is rediculous as it's already happening, albeit quietly, especially as talk of how to do such things is not allowed on this forum.
    You keep using this phrase 'any time soon' without quantifying it. You use words like 'unlikely'. We live in a fast changing world. The world of televisions has changed dramatically in the last two years, whereby nearly all mid-priced TVs (both plasma and lcd) from about £800 GBP upwards now support native 1920x1080. Two years ago I paid over £1500 GBP for a 37" plasma supporting native 1024x720. You can now buy Sony OLED 11" TVs, which a couple of years ago were just being shown off as prototypes. In my opinion, OLED will blow away lcd and plasma tv sales within 5 years, and in my timescale, that is any time soon.
    12 months ago I bought a blu-ray player for a PC, whilst people around me were going for hd-dvd. The format wars was predicted as not going to end 'any time soon' and no one could have forseen that within 6 months the whole blu-ray / hd-dvd argument would be over.
    For your information, ABC in the US have been broadcasting in HD for over 10 years.
    But as I keep saying Winston, these are my opinions. You're allowed yours and I'm allowed mine.

  • File.delete() and File.deleteOnExit() doesn't work consistently..

    I am seeing some odd behavior with trying to delete files that were opened. Usually just doing new File("file.txt").delete() would work. However, in this case, I have created an input stream to the file, read it in, saved it to another location (copied it), and now I am trying to delete it.
    The odd thing is, in my simple application, the user can work with one file at a time, but I move "processed" files to a lower pane in a swing app. When they exit it, it then archives all the files in that lower pane. Usually every file but the last one opened deletes. However, I have seen odd behavior where by some files don't delete, sometimes all of them wont delete. I tried the deleteOnExit() call which to me should be done by the JVM after it has released all objects such that they don't matter and the JVM ignores any object refs and directly makes a call (through JNI perhaps) to the underlying OS to delete the file. This doesn't work either.
    I am at a loss as to why sometimes some files delete, and other times they don't. In my processing code, I always close the input stream and set its variable to null. So I am not sure how it is possible a reference could still be held to the object representing the file on disk.

  • I lose my internet connection when i sync iTunes and ATV. Please help

    Ive just bought a new Apple TV and I am trying to stream TV shows and movies from my iMac via the wireless network.
    The ATV found the right network instantly and I wrote in the password. Ive paired the iMac iTunes and ATV and I can see all the episodes and movies on my TV.
    When I want to start to watch any of it, it loses its connection to the router/network. And so does the iMac. I havent had any trouble with the iMacs connection to the network until now. If Im not trying to watch anything on my TV, the internet is fine on both the ATV and iTunes.
    Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Ive tried to fix the DHCP in my router settings, but im not even sure what that means, let alone if it helps When i lose the internet, I can still see the network name, but when I try to connect, it says that connection timeout.
    I have a D-Link DI 524 router.
    Thanks so much
    Lisa
    EDIT: If I exit iTunes my internet connection is fine. As soon as I start it and iTunes starts to sync with ATV, I lose the internet. Anyone know why and how I can fix it?
    I forgot to add that WAN settings in my router says that I have Dynamic IP Address.
    Thanks

    Okay.. When i stop the syncing between the ATV and itunes, I can watch a movie/TV-show for about 30 seconds, then the network will timeout.
    So i know the atv is working. I have a feeling its the router that is too old? I will try to upgrade its firmware tomorrow, as i was told i couldnt to this when connected to wireless?

  • XML datasource: dynamic file name and location

    I have an RDF file that uses an XML file as its datasouce. I have supplied it a valid DTD file location and a valid XML file location, via the report wizard. • Get file name and path from  adf inputFile

    Hi,
    I use adf's inputFile component. I need to get the file name and filePath. Does anyone knows how to do that?
    Thanks in advance

    You may bind the value to an UploadedFile object and get the name from this object.
    You may use a valueChangeListener backin bean method or a managed bean.
    Here the code i just write for something similar. Note that i'm not able to test it because of a bug in 10.1.3.1 with inputFile and web.xml parameters. I still waiting for the patch.
    public void uploadedFile(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) throws IOException,
    Exception {
    final int BUFFER = 2048;
    byte data[] = new byte[BUFFER];
    int currentByte;
    String fileName;
    UploadedFile uploadedFile =
    (UploadedFile)valueChangeEvent.getNewValue();
    if (uploadedFile != null) {
    String mimeType = uploadedFile.getContentType();
    if (mimeType == "application/x-zip-compressed") {
    // get the uploaded file as a zip file
    ZipFile zipFile = new ZipFile(uploadedFile.getFilename());
    // verify the zip archive contains only one entry
    if (zipFile.size() != 1) {
    FacesContext context =
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();

  • Problem on opening pdf file in IE inline (through streaming method)

    Hello
              I had a problem opening pdf file at IE through streaming. I create a page
              that have a hyperlink to open the new window and talk to a serlvet. When
              clicked, this serlvet will stream a pdf file from the file server to serlvet
              output stream. And the pdf file will be displayed within the browser.
              The problem comes that I can see the Acrobat Reader trailer screen display
              but the brower show nothing. I click refresh button to that serlvet to
              reload then it come up the content.
              Is anyone have the same trouble on this and any solution will be
              appreciated.

    Hello Rondy,
              You vae set mime type to application/pdf, which is good. But IE doesn't care
              of it !
              And I think your URL is too long because and I'm sure it leads to a buffer
              overflow (as they say at MS in their bug report).
              So as a workaround, you can rename your servlet mapping from Ecd/Download to
              Ecd/Download.pdf if you can, or make the URL length much more smaller.
              Try to go to MS site to find what is the precise bug#. I can't remember what
              it its number.
              I hope you'll find a solution.

  • I do not understand iPhoto and/or Photo Stream, help me?

    I do not understand iPhoto to say the least. I've imported my photos which I have stored on an external networked hard drive. However after they've been uploaded to the iPhoto library, I've got NUMEROUS duplicates which seem to be showing as different events even though they are the same photo.
    Another thing is that in Photo Stream which I have turned on my iPhone 4, I seem to have photos showing up in there that have nothing to do with a photo I've taken on my iPhone or manually dragged them to Photo Stream. They are mostly some old photos that I've NEVER had on my iPhone at all. How did they get there. My photos that I've taken with the phone or saved on my Iphone are there just like I was expecting but most of these photos, and this is while I'm on my iMac, are just a bunch of random photos. I don't even know how to delete these photos in Photo Stream to try and start over.
    Could someone help me understand iPhoto and/or Photo Stream, these are two different questions please!

    Is there a specific file that iPhoto makes and stores on my computer or the external drive that has the iPhoto library? I want to delete all instances of it and try reloading my library.
    Also, how do I reload or start fresh a Photo Stream library on my computer? What's weird is that the photos on my iMac are not what's on my iPhone. I mean I have the ones that are on my iPHone are within the iPhoto's Photo Stream but then there is also a bunch of other photos that I have no idea how they got there.

  • Moving purchases done on an ATV in streaming mode to my PC

    I have chosen to use my ATV in streaming mode as I had many issues in Sync mode. Would appreciate some hints on the following challenge:
    I have purchased movies using my ATV. These purchased movies are not showing up in iTunes on my PC. How do I move these across to my PC in order to ensure I have a backup and be able to transfer them to my iPod Touch?

    you need to have sync mode turned on for items to auto-sync back to itunes from appletv.
    turn it on, but then choose "custom sync". this will allow items to sync back to itunes, but will keep the 100% stream that you require.
    this is how mine is set up.

  • Lost sync video speeds up when importing files AVI and MP4

    I record my boss from a closed circut CATV system on a DVD.  Then I transfer the VOB file to my hard drive and convert it with MPEG Stream Clip 1.2b2 using the following settings
    Codec Apple DV/DCVC Pro - NTSC
    audio - uncompressed
    resolution 720x480 DV/NTSC
    It usually works like a charm, in the past I have been able to drop it into Premiere 7.0 or CS4 and edit away.  But today I am having this problem no matter what I do.  The video runs at 2x to 3x normal speed and the audio runs at the regular pace.  Needless to say it is out of sync.  I've tried rendering as an MP4 and Quicktime with the same issue.
    I've rebooted my comuter.  I don't understand why it worked before and not now.
    Any advice would be apprecieated.
    A real timesaver would be an update to CS4 that allow you to drop a VOB file into the timeline.  It seemed like such a basic file format, and Adobe's pitch for CS4 said it handles almost all video formats, so I didn't even bother to check before I bought.  Got what I deserve.
    Oh, I am editing on a Toshiba tecra laptop.  Plenty of RAM and a good processor.
    Thanks
    John

    VOB files have their own issues.
    To start, they usually are just one part of a video program that contains several .vob files.  Any video program on DVD longer than about 30 minutes will usually be made up of multiple .vob files.
    Then there is the issue of the file structure itself.  VOB files don't just contain the video and audio content - they also contain lots of non-media data that provide instructions to the DVD player on how to deal with the media content contained in the file.  The best solution is to strip away that extra data before working with the file(s) by ripping the DVD.  Otherwise, you are relying on your editing software to properly ignore the extra data.  Even dedicated MPEG2/DVD/DVDR editing programs like VideoReDo and Womble have trouble with some .vob files from time to time.
    So the bottom line with .vob files is that they sometimes work, sometimes they only work after a file extension change, and sometimes they won't work at all.  Your best bet when re-purposing DVD video is to rip the DVD into usable, editable files.

  • ATV USB Port - How do I Save files to & from ATV

    How do you save files to and from the Apple TV USB port?
    Can you plug a USB drive to the ATV to save and transfer files?
    Thx much to anyone who can help

    How do you save files to and from the Apple TV USB port?
    There is no official use of that port by anyone outside of Apple.
    Can you plug a USB drive to the ATV to save and transfer files?
    You can't without hacking it.
