File Export is grayed out in QuickTime Pro!

I am scheduled to perform some songs on Saturday, so I need to learn them. I planned to purchase the songs through iTunes, but they are available only as video clips--not as audio files. I thought I would buy the videos and export them with QuickTime.
When I noticed that the Export feature was unavailable in the free version of QT, I went to the store to buy the Pro license. I chatted with an online store rep who assured me that I would be able to export the audio from my video clips in .wav format. So I plumped for the $33.
Having upgraded my QT to QT Pro, I now find that File > Export is grayed out. In a separate thread from this forum, I read that it's possible that iTunes video clips cannot be exported due to DRM; I need someone to contradict this and tell me that I can get what I've paid for here.
Any advice highly appreciated.

As much as I hate to hear that, Kirk, I thank you for the lightning-quick response. At least the mystery is solved.

  • File Export is grayed out when Photo Book selected - worked yesterday

I have been assembling a Photo book from various scanned photos. In order to share a preview before send it of to be printed, I used the File>Export option to produce a Quicktime movie. It worked very well but today I wanted to change some of the movie settings.
When I tried to repeat the exercise, I found that the File>Export option is now grayed out and I cannot access it. The options to Share to web and iDVD are still available and I can print to PDF.
I cannot think of anything that has changed since yesterday. I tried a reboot but it made no difference.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Dave

    David:
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist. What are you trying to export, the book? That option is not available from the book mode. Only from albums, slideshows or the main library. Did you do the export from a slideshow you made of the photos used in the book?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Any update on why File Export is grayed out in Premiere Elements 8?

I just "upgraded" from 7. In the past versions I used Export command to quickly get myself an audio track exported.  Not a huge deal because it looks like I can accomplish the same thing in the "Share" area, but why wouldn't they remove the menu command instead of graying out?  Also, irritating because I've wasted 30 minutes trying to figure that out as well as another 30 min. having to go through the NVIDIA driver issue. Arggggghhhh.
    Thx!
    Jeremy

Ah, that would certainly make perfect sense. Thank you for that observation. Now, I feel better about the coding in PrE 8!
    Appreciated,

  • Export AAF grayed out in SoundTrack Pro 2.01

My Export AAF menu option is totally grayed out, no matter what project I'm working on. What's up with that?

    Oh .. ****
    Thanks!

  • "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated.

I have one big wav file of segued tracks as a mixdown and inserted CD markers where I want marked tracks. "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated. Why can't I export these marked portions as separate files?

the markers durations need to be configured, there is an easy way to do this using your existing markers.  click the start time of marker 2, this should change to edit mode to type in a new number, just copy the numbers cmd/ctrl+c. then click the end time of marker 1 and paste, cmd/ctrl+v.  now repeat for the rest of the markers, and on the last one enter a value for the end time or click and drag on the duration to manually extend it. once all the markers have a duration, the button should be active to export.

  • "Viewing PDF After Exporting" is grayed out!

I am using Adobe Design Premium CS5 (specifically Adobe InDesign).  When setting up a new PDF preset, I have selected for compatabilty Acrobat 8/9.  The problem I am having is that the selection for "View PDF after Exporting" is grayed out.  What can I do to get it usable?

Thank you for responding so quickly.  The tech team here at school moved all my files and programs to another drive, in the process they lost all my preferences, PDF presets, and more.  So I am trying from memory to reconstruct all the tweeking I have done in PHotoshop and InDesign over the last two years - and I am not doing so well.  In the past I have had the ability to select "Viewing PDF after Exporting".
As for restoring the preferences - that is out of my league and will have to suggest that to the tech team.

  • Export as MPEG2 Option In Quicktime Pro 7.1.2

In older versions of quicktime pro there was an option to 'export -> movie to mpeg2'.
I'm on an intel core duo imac, mac os 10.4.7, quicktime 7.1.2, with Final Cut Studio 5 and the latest updates installed.
I am under the impression that the necessary quicktime mpeg 2 encoder is part of the dvd studio pro 4 install.
What am I doing wrong? I'd like to have the mpeg2 export right out of quicktime pro...am I asking too much? Does Apple just want me to run Compressor for all of my mpeg2 needs?
My 'Library -> Quicktime' does not have any "mpeg2" compenents listed...which I would have assumed would be installed with the DVD studio pro install. I try to re-install just dvdsp, but nothing.
    Thanks in advance!

    Grant:
It's no longer included in the Studio and as far as I know, there is no way to get it as standalone.

  • Why do I not have the option (the choose file option is grayed out) to upload pictures to more than a few places I have tried

I am having a problem uploading photos to basically every place but Facebook. I have contacted these sites and they give instruction on how to do it but the "choose file" button is grayed out on some, OR it says, "if your device doesn't have the capability to upload send your pictures to us. I am assuming u can't upload pictures with iPad 2? Or is it just me.....more than one site doing this, is there a setting somewhere?
    Thanks :)

I can't find an app, but was also wondering is there a third party service like photobucket that would work on the ones that don't have an app?

  • Sip dialer port export option grayed out in configuration manager ucce 10

    Hi,
I am configuring the outbound option for ucce 10, when i configure the sip dialer port (dialer conifguration) in conifiguration manager, i just added 5 ports, i can see this ports showing in dialer process on the PG, but i need to export this ports to Unified communication manager, i could not able to export it because this option grayed out (i did select all, or individual selection both are having export option grayed out)
    Any idea?
    with Regards,
    Manivannan

Exporting port configuration is only allowed for SCCP, in SIP Dialer Deployment its actually not needed and that why its grayed out.
//but i need to export this ports to Unified communication manager//
in Sip Dialer you don't need to create any Port For Dialer under CUCM. its only required in SCCP.
Sip Dialer port Directly registers with VG.

  • Is there a way to export .avi files to .mp4 en masse in Quicktime Pro?

    Hiya.
What I've been doing for some time now is taking the .avi movie files my Canon camera creates, and exporting them as h264 .mp4 files which cuts the file size by more than half with minimal quality loss. But at this moment, I have almost 100 video files that I would like to do and this process would be much, much, better if I could que them up.
Can you do this in Quicktime Pro and if not, another program?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
This can also be done with SimpleMovieX.
    http://www.aeroquartet.com/SimpleMovieX/
Note that I'm the developer of this application. It may not be as free as MPEG Streamclip, but at least it's supported.
    Regards, BJ

  • Export option grayed out

My export option on soundtrack pro 3.0 is grayed out and I cannot access any export options??
Any help is appreciated.Song is saved as a soundtrack pro file but it is 125MB and I want to export it as an aiff file.

Are you in the multi-track editor or the audio waveform editor? The export menu item is only available if you have tracks in the MTE.
To save your audio file as an AIFF, choose File > Save As... and change the file type to AIFF.

  • How do you convert a file from .mov to .avi in quicktime pro

I'm using a kodak Z50 digital camera that records video files as .mov files. I was told I could convert the files to .avi files using quicktime pro, but I can't figure out how to do it. Anyone know?

I am assuming you already are able to open the movie
in QT Player. Use Export in the File menu, choose
Movie to Avi in the drop-down Export Menu and then
click on Options to choose one of the pre-loaded avi
codecs for the compression. You may also want to
search for and install one of the newer codecs, such
as 3ivx or divx since the preinstalled codecs are all
    rather old.

    mhz   Mac OS 9.2.x
Thanks for the help. It worked, but the quality of the video is poor. Is there anything I can do about this?

  • What is the maximum file size I can import to Quicktime Pro 7?

I have some clips that are 2-3 GB in size. Can I import these into Quicktime Pro 7 and edit them? For example cut them in half so each reduced file size half can be opened in other software that has a 2 GB limit?
Also, can I save a Quicktime file as MPEG-4?
    Thank you!

If the files are in a format that QuickTime understands then there really isn't a file size limit.
QuickTime Player Pro can export most formats that it can open to MPEG-4 codec formats.

  • .mov files not showing video while using Quicktime Pro

    Hi:
I'm trying to work with some .mov files that were created in DVCPRO HD format, which I understand is a Panasonic format. I've upgraded to Quicktime Pro 7.6.4 as instructed by the individual who created the .mov files. The problem is I get audio, but no video. I've also tried exporting these movie files to DV Stream and I get an error message that reads "qtKitErrorCatchAll(-8961)."
Thanks for viewing this and for any help you can provide.

The file was made by someone using Final Cut Studio?
A white playback means the codec used in the file is missing on the machine trying to view it.
Ask them to send you a version exported using H.264 video codec.

  • Export option grayed out for some "unknown" reason.

I have several clips I've downloaded from the net (mostly music videos), and some of them I can export into any type of file I like (such as iPod video), but some of them I can't export at all. Is there some kind of copyright protection embedded into these files? Is that even possible using Quicktime?

Yes, there is a flag that can be set in a file so that it is saved as un-editable. In this state, you can't export, copy, save or in any other way alter the movie using QuickTime Pro.
