File extension html.en - can this be added

Hi all,
I have been asked to take over maintenance of a site.
For some reason all the html files have been named as
follows:, index.html.en , index.html.es , index.html.de etc
(for language reasons) This extends throught the site on all
pages. (ie there are 2 full stops/periods in the file name)
Can I add this extension to dreamweaver, so it will open with
code hints, etc.
I have tried adding the .en, .es and .de (and html.en,
html.es) to the MMDocumentTypes.xml file, but it didn't seem to
work.
Using DW8
Any ideas.

  • Is there a way to preview any file as HTML? I need to preview .INC files as HTML, but can't make FireFox to display them as anything other than plain text.

As a part of design I have .INC files that contain HTML that is to be processed by PHP. The extension is .INC to separate it from .HTML files which don't need pre-processing.
I sometimes need to preview those files as HTML, but Firefox always displays them as plain text. Is there a way to tell Firefox that .INC files should be displayed as .HTML?

One at a time is the answer to both questions, I'm afraid.  There is no automated way to do either.

  • Firefox downloads a file with the wrong file extension. How can I fix this?

The title says it all. When I download files, it comes out with the wrong extension, not sure what extension it comes out as.
It actually just comes out as "file."
How can I fix this? Is there something in about:config I can tweak to eliminate this error?

    Hi dartz!
This type of problems are not related with the browser you are using, in this case, Firefox. This issues are the consequence of the way that the website "packed" the file.
What you should do is download the file, locate the file, give right click on the file and select "Rename". Now, don't change the name!!! Just add "." and then the extension that you wanted. Example, you download the file "norwegianwood", after renaming it, it should read "norwegianwood.srt".
Hope this works for you, take care!

  • DW CC: Can't find a valid editor for this file extension

    Hi,
I am using dreamweaver cc for 1 month now. I have been having difficulty opening .asp file.
In the File panel, when i click on one of the asp files, the error message is 'Can't find a valid editor for this file extension'.
To solve this problem, I will right click on the file and choose Open with > Dreamweaver.
However, this is very inconvenient. Someone pls help!

You can configure that in your Operating System.  In my version of Windows XP, open any folder and  select TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS/FILE TYPES then scroll to the asp file type and select DW as the editor.

  • How can I get Firefox to recognize Excel 2007-2010 XLSX file extension?

There is an Applications setting (under Tools/Options) for Excel 97-2003 Worksheet file extension. How can I add another setting for newer Excel file extension XLSX?

Check the URL that doesn't work.

When a web server sends Firefox a file, it includes a content-type header. This is what Firefox uses to determine how to handle the file, not the file extension. The server might be sending a generic download type such as "application/octet-stream" which you cannot assign to any one application. That's just a guess because I don't use that software.

  • Xht file extension still requires manual configuration

to open the files with an xht extension with the File Panel, i needed to configure the following file:
    /Users/me/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver\ CS5/en_US/Configuration/Extensions.txt
adding XHT after XHTML on the line for HTML documents enables Dr CS5 to open a file with an xht extension via the Files Panel.
maybe a future update will already include the xht extension as an HTML type of document.

    Hi Ron,
as far as i know with regard to xht as a web standard, the xht file extension is used the same as the xhtml file extension (which is also my understanding for the use of htm and html).
w3c has a specific validator for XHTML 1.1 documents. there is a link from pages on my web site at http://www.enhanceability.com/0.xht (near bottom of the page).
i don't know how widespread support is for xht as XHTML (HTML) among the various browsers and apps and networks, however I can browse such pages with near lightning speed with Safari, Firefox, and some other browsers.
i just noticed that although Safari 5.0 renders an XHTML page with an xht file extension, when I try to save the page as page source it enforces the xhtml file extension, without allowing the xht file extension. (however i can rename with xht in the finder)
as far as Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, it seems that i needed to configure two files so that the FilesPanel could open a doc with an xht file extension, and also so that the code view of a document with an xht file extension also showed code highlighting.
    Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS5/Configuration/DocumentTypes/MMDocumentTypes.xml
    and
    MyUser/Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5/en_US/Configuration/Extensions.txt
it was simple to add XHT after XHTML in the HTML documents lists, yet there must be a better way.
Yes, I am familiar with XHTML. I followed the link that you provided to here:
    http://www.enhanceability.com/dev/0.xht
Which has a link to this page:
    http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/2008/ED-xhtmlmime-20080618/
I think you have misinterpretted that information. I do not see anywhere on the W3C page that recommends using .xhtml or .xht file extensions.
I also found this FAQ that explains my understanding about XHTML documents:
    http://www.webheadstart.org/xhtml/faq/index.html
Yes, it would be nice to have a UI to make adding file extensions to DW easier.

  • Photoshop cs6  .psd file extension

Hello,  if you create an image and it has a .psd file extension.  Do you have to download software to view the .psd file extension.  Or can if easily be converted to a .jpeg.  On my mac I can see the image.  At work a windows machine it's asking me to find a program that can view a .psd.  I was hoping to convert it to something that will open easily.   Thanks!

Here is what I did.  I took a picture from the internet and created a new file in photoshop.  Then I added some layers for background, and text.  Now, the image has 4 layers.  It's basically a banner for a title of a page.  It has a .psd format.  I emailed the photo to myself here at work.  I can not open the file.  What started this is:  If I use this new .psd file I have created and used it in dreamweaver.  When someone opens the webpage will that .psd file open for them to see the image?  This is why I have been thinking that I need to convert it to a different format.  I'm Sorry!  I hope this clears up what I am trying to do.  Thanks!

  • Import function is blocked. Can this be changed with a security setting?

I want to import bookmarks that I saved from old computer. When I go to File in the menu bar, the import is blocked (shaded white). How can I activate the import function?

Do you have an HTML or JSON backup from that old computer?
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.
A JSON backup starts with: <nowiki>{"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":</nowiki>
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>
You may need to add quotes ("bookmarks.xxxx") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension.

  • Downloaded JDK Package is Missing File Extension

I am trying to download and install the latest JDK package for windows 64 bit.  The downloaded file doesn't contain the .exe extension that is shown in the download page so I can't install the software.  The name of the downloaded file is jdk-7u45-windows-x64 (without a file extension).  Where can I get the correct file to download?  Thanks

    not quite Nicolas
although that will ceratinly work if that is what you want/need to do.
the issue here is that the 'correct' suffix/extension is not needed.
historically, Mac OS has not used file type extensions, they have used resource fork data (file type and creator code - metadata held within the header block of the file itself)
as Apple has progressed to Mac OS X they have distanced themselves from this kind of metadata in many applications ... but not universally. FCP being a prime example.
if you come from a PC world you may well assume that your files absolutely need this kind of naming extension, but in a Mac world this is not at all the case. your clips do not need to be named .mov files or what have you. they will still be .mov files even without the extension.
    hope that helps
    Andy

  • Why does the "open with" function often not recognize valid file extensions

Sample situation: I often need to open JPGs downloaded from the Internet in Photoshop, but I need to keep the default program as Preview.
When I attempt to open the image in PS using the "Open With" function (in the Edit menu), there are often no choices - it's blank, so I need to open it in preview and then save it as a PSD file to quickly open in PS. Other times I will get a list of other installed programs like Excel, and need to scroll down to the "open with another program" button, where I need to manually find the PS application. Of course, I can always open the file from within PS, but why is the Apple option so seemingly arbitrary from one similar file to the next?
There is often no rhyme or reason for the programs it offers me.
This happens with other file extensions, too.
    Is this a known bug?

It's up to the applications to declare what types of files they can open. They do so by storing the information in the CFBundleDocumentTypes section of the Info.plist file in the application's .app directory. If you know what you are doing, you can edit the plist file to add your own file types/extensions. Unfortunately, I don't know of a good application to do that for you (but it's not a bad idea for one, if I get the time).

  • Sony file extensions conflict

I have a Sony HDD camcorder (latest model)and I just bought and installed Premiere Elements 4 on my computer. I run XP on desktop and Vista on laptop but I can't get Premiere to views my clips on either computer. I have downloaded latest version of QuickTime. When I save the files to the computer they come up as .m2ts file extension. I can import them into Premiere from the computer but can't view them but they do play the audio. If I try to import them direct from the camera it won't show any files at all. I'm at my wits end with both Sony and Premiere Elements. Any advice needs to be given in layman terms I'm afraid.
    Cj

Premiere Elements doesn't work all that well with hard drive cams, Cheryl. So there are two things you can try:
    1) Make sure your Premiere Elements project is using the Hard Drive Camcorder settings, which you can only set up when you first start your project. This will optimize your video quality.
Then use the Media Downloader in Premiere Elements to get the video from your camcorder. Don't capture the video with other software. Unfortunately, this means you get the video into your computer in big chunks rather than capturing it as streaming video, but at least you know Premiere Elements is seeing the video.
    2) Short of that, convert your m2ts files to DV-AVIs before you bring them into Premiere Elements. You should be able to do this with MPEG Streamclip, as described in the FAQs at the top of this forum.

  • How to create encrypted File Extension??

    hi Folks
i'd ilke to ask how to create file extension and how encrypt this extension??
to make my question clear suppose we develop a word proceesing Application i would like this Application produce let say ".kad" when saving it and how to make this extension ".kad" encrypted meaning that we couldn't open the file unless my Application is existing.
can anyone help me or give a tip to start of the way!!!!!!!!
    thnx

    Hi eng_kadry,
if a little confusion is enough for you can use just a binary format, i.e. do not store readable text, but compacted binary information.
If you really need to encrypt your data have a look at JCE (Java Crypto Extension) which provides various encryption algorithms.
Note: You can't encrypt a file extension you encrypt the file. You can't prevent anybody opening the file with a hex-editor, but if you use binary or a really encrypted format he/she won't be able to make any sense out of it.
Another note: Be aware that your program will always contain everything it needs to decrypt the files, so if anybody goes through the pain of decompiling your program he/she will be able to use the files and you can't prevent decompilation
    regards
    Spieler

  • .txt file extension

Labview automatically saves a text file as a readable text file but it has no .txt or .text file extension on.  Is there a way in which you can make labview save a file automatically with a .txt file extension so it can be opened directly by notepad.  Rather than having to choose aprogram to open it with every time I try to access one of the files.
    Thanks,
    Matt.
    Solved!

    gilgad2000,
It depends on your VI. If you are using the "Path Control" tool, you can open its "Browse Options" and write .txt at the Pattern box.
If you are not using it, you can also concatenate a ".txt" string at the end of the file path (use "Strip Path", "Concatenate Strings" and "Build Path" functions) just before using it on the saving function.
