File Folder Option like Outlook?

Hi All -
My company currently uses Apple Mail in lieu of Outlook and it works great. However, I would love the ability to file folders directly from the toolbar (like you can with Outlook). Is there a "plug-in" or any way to make that happen?
It would be ideal with Growl (which when clicked, opens a new window for that email) and rather than exit/dragging into a folder i could just place it right in there with 1 click.

That option isn't available in the GUI, but you can turn it on/off via these Terminal commands:
To turn it on:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE; killall Finder
To turn it off
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE; killall Finder
Just copy and paste the command into Terminal and press 'Return' (you can find Terminal in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
You can define your own simple Terminal command like 'show_all' / 'hide_all' to make this process simpler. Follow the instructions here

Utility for compiling java files with options.

i want to create a utility application in java which can compile a java source file with options like -d , -classpath,-help etc.
there is a java.lang.Compiler class which can be used to compile a source file but how can i supply compile time options?

Is this an interview question? An intellectual exercise to see if you can do it?
Why do you want to do this when there is already a freely available utility, javac, that can already do all of that?
Please provide more information and a sample user session that shows what you are really trying to accomplish.
And the class you mentioned is not really for the purpose you say you want

Question Mark Link on File Folder Window

I just noticed a question mark (?) that appears on the File Folder Windows like an app is looking for something (next to a thumbnail icon at the top of the folder windows) and cannot seem to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Keeps telling me my file does not have a program associated with it and go to folder options in the control pane. Where is it located

When I try to save a file the download window keeps coming up. When I click to open the erro message says "File does not have a program associated with it for performing this function. Create an association in the folder options control panel." Where is this control panel and what kind of association do I make. Usually it was adobe but I don't have that choice

Also it could be the type of file you are downloading. Like if it was a type of text that your default word processor did not accept it would give you that message.

Checking out Pdf files to Local draft Folder option no longer works after office 2013 installed.
Summary :
We are using SharePoint 2010 Ent edition and users were able to checkout Pdf files similar to local drafts folder like any other office file without any problem when they used office 2010.
i.e
Unfortunately ever since their machines upgraded with office 2013 recently , this functionality completely stopped working for PDF files. This has now become a big problem for the users when it comes to check out and replace PDF files.
All browser plugins required for this functionality (i.e SharePoint OpenDocuments Class ) are all available and active. All document libraries are configured to Checkout is required for editing files. Browser version
used at the moment is IE9 (32 bit) version with windows 7.
Can anyone please help with this issue and any help to get away with this problem is much appreciated.

Based on your description, my understanding is that the PDF files cannot be checked out to local drafts folder after Office 2013 is installed.
Did this issue occur with Office files?
I recommend to check if the Office files can be checked out to local drafts folder with Office 2013.
And it is recommended to use Office 2010 with SharePoint 2010 for best practice.

Trouble with with CS4 "open with" and FOLDER OPTIONS FILE TYPES

I just installed CS4 MC and when I right click to use "OPEN WITH" CS4 is not listed. I use BROWSE and point to photoshop.exe in which is in the adobe/adobe photoshop cs4 folder as it should be. I click the .exe file then click OK and it takes me back to the OPEN WITH dialog box, but nothing has changed. There is no icon for Photoshop. It acts as if it didn't do anything. Same thing happens when I try to use FOLDER OPTIONS > FILE TYPES to change a file so that PS will open it. All was well with CS4. When I installed I did not use disk 5 (Windows Components) DVD to install. Once disk 4 was done and it said photoshop was installed, I stopped. What does disk 5 contain and is that the probably cause of why I can't use OPEN WITH? I am on XP with SP3. Photoshop works fine and I have no issues opening files thru photoshop, or from bridge into photoshop. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can have only 1 defalult "Open With" but you can have many options of Open With.
Not a computer geek but seems like you options 1 and 2 are risky. Would get a second opinion.

You can move file named places.sqlite from your old profile to the new one. It contains bookmarks and browsing history.

If you don't care about saving your current bookmarks, you can skip creating new profile (Firefox does it by itself at first run anyway).
I'd might suggest you to install addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410/|Xmarks Bookmark and Password Sync]. It is a free web service which synchronizes bookmarks and (optionally) passwords with central server, and then to other computers, if you installed it on more. You may treat is as a backup too.

Firefox 4.01 downloads files but the downloads windows greys out the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options and I can't trace the files

Three days ago I upgraded to Firefox 4.01. I downloaded several files that were ok. Yesterday and today I downloaded one powerpoint file and a an apple *.dmg file.
On the Download window these two files I can see with the total mb in size. However when I right click the file list in the Download window the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options are greyed out. What is more I cannot find these files anywhere on my computer when I use Windows Explorer to search.
It seems that this happened after I tried to download a Firefox add on from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/64761/amazonassist-0.7.2.6-fx.xpi and my antivirus picked up the JS/Kryptik.AK trojan and terminated the connection. Is there a link with the problem I am experiencing?

You can try putting it into Disk Mode

If that works, you can see if the computer will recognize it when connected, either in iTunes or by the system.
NOTE: You can also try putting it into Disk Mode WHILE it is already connected to the computer.
If the iPod is recognized, you may be able to use one of the third-party methods or utilities to transfer song files from iPod to computer. You can do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer" to get some links (add "mac" to the search if your computer is a Mac).
Once the song files are on your computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library, then sync it to the new iPod.

Folder Options - View Hidden Files and Folders

Hello,
On this same laptop, there seems to be an issue with *Folder Options - View Hidden Files and Folders.*
Each time i "check" that option to View - then i go back to verify/confirm the changes done - but the checkbox is "unchecked" again. Despite clicking on Apply and Ok to save the changes! The changes are never saved..
I have used other laptops for this same option and it all worked fine.
Please advise whether i need to apply or amend other settings for this to work?

I mean normally Bitdefender shouldnt cause such a problem thats right but theoretically its possible. Such security software programs are really good and necessary on every computer with internet connection but due the high security it could maybe blocks some changes from Windows.
In my opinion its worth a try to test it without Bitdefender. Alternative you can use AntiVir (freeware) and the Windows firewall. In my opinion a really good freeware solution.

No "New Folder" option under FILE. hard drive transfer ? too

I want to organize my albums into folders so the source list isn't so long. The iPhoto help area says to click on File>New Folder. I have no such option (shaded or otherwise). Then I attempted to make a new folder in Finder & drag it over. It drags, but then does not appear anywhere. Help?!? Where is my "new folder option"? IS there a chance I did soemthing to it in the past unknowingly. I didn't see New Folder as a short cut option either.
A little off topic, but if I save my harddrive to a second freestanding OWC harddrive thing, can I just transfer all of my data this way?

Go ahead and create your new folder in finder (File>New Folder), then just leave it on your desktop.
In iPhoto, highlight the photos or Rolls you want to export, choose File>Export, and in the drop down menu choose File Export, select your Format, and click Export.
In the new Drop Down, called Export Photos, select Desktop from the "Where" menu, and click 'OK'.
Your highlighted photo(s) will be copied to your Desktop, and you can then drag them into your new folder.
Your origionals will still be in iPhoto; you can delete them if you want.
