File/Folder to application connection

Dear readers and professionals
I have the problem, that I need to rework very old iMove files.
With iMovie '09 see this files (actually special folders) with a white document symbol. If I open them within iMovie, I'm able to convert them during opening.
So I did try to set the application paired with this files to iMovie.
First the new symbol of a iMovie file did show up but a few seconds later, I see only a ordinary folder symbol.
The next was, that ALL file of the old iMovie projects do now show up as folders and can't be imported anymore.
Which hidden or known system file or preference does handle this connection which tells the system how to handle specific files and folders in comparison with the existing applications.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.
Kind regards
Thomas Thaler

Hi Thomas,
The File connection is done in Launch Services...

Not certain on the Folders, but check Finder>View>Show View Options while in Icon View.

    Hi,
First get the files in application server using the following function module.

Whatever the problem is you no longer have a bootable system. You need to try reinstalling OS X.
Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Cannot get into mac. I get a white screen and flashing file folder with question mark inside. What can I do?

2012/13 MacBook Pro froze up, so I did a hard shut down. Now, when I try to start up, it makes 3 unusual beeps, then I get a white screen. After a couple minutes, a flashing file folder with a question mark appears and remains. What is wrong and what can I do to fix it.

Three beeps usually means a RAM or RAM slots problem. The Question Mark means there is no bootable system found.
A flashing question mark or globe appears when you start your Mac
Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark or globe appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by one or more of these:
    a. Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
    b. Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
    c. Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
    d. The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Note that the information I have provided is what Apple recommends, If other users suggest different solutions than found here, then be sure what they recommend does not impact on your warranty, if any, or ability to get continuing Apple service.
Please don't start removing drives or changing cables unless you know what you are doing and have exhausted other non-invasive alternatives outlined here. If you perform any work yourself that is unapproved by Apple, then you will void any warranty you may have and lose all further Apple Support.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD. Simply boot from the Recovery HD to perform the above.

  • STP file hangs up re-connect media

I'm going to post this here and in STP.
When I try to re-connect media in one of my FCP projects, I get a message that it can't find "EffectDD2C0AF6.....aif" and so the project won't play. It affects Media Manager as well, but MM lets you "skip file" once you've gone thru the effort of trying to search for it.
I did a search of my computer and found a lot of files labeled "Effect....aif" in STP "Temporary Files" folder. But they are all dimmed and won't come into the project.
When I create a map of a project in Gridiron Flow, I can see a bunch of files labeled "Effect....aif" And if I examine them (in Flow) and say "reveal in finder" I find that they are audio files I've created and/or modified in STP.
If I didn't have Flow, I'd have no idea which files are being referred to, since these audio files have actual names, and when I look at the browser or the timeline, they don't indicate whether or not the files were created in STP.
Is this a bug or is it something I'm doing wrong in STP when I create and name these files?

So you need to establish whether your clips are corrupted?
I suggest doing a GET INFO on each one and then changing the default application which opens it to QUICKTIME.
Then try double clicking the file and see if it opens in QT.
If you still get the "this is not a movie file" alert, you can be pretty sure that you have corrupted QT files.
I've just been through a major nightmare of this nature and tried every piece of software I could find to open my corrupted 75gig HD file. I asked questions on all the boards and failed to find anyone or any service that could help me ...
    until ...
I found a guy in Balcelona in Spain who specializes in rescuing corrupt Quicktime files. He claims to be the only guy in the world doing this.
He rescued a 90 minute HD file for me and his initial charge is $149.
For this he sends you a piece of software which takes a sample of your corrupt file. Then you email him this tiny slice. He examines it and, if he can help you, he adapts his software to your own particular problem.
He then emails you an application to fix your problem. If he fixes your problem and you are happy, you pay him by credit card or whatnot and he then emails you a code which does the final fix.
It's almost unbelievable, I know. But it worked for me.
I had to have two passes done because of unforeseen difficulties, so it cost me $300. I was so grateful to him for fixing something which would have taken me days to replace and recut that I sent him an extra $100. So total $400.
I'm at home right now and not at my office. If you want his website and email and so on, reply to this email and I'll post the information in the morning.
    Best
    Harry.

My other team members are unable to view or retrieve files that I add to our Creative Cloud File Folder.  Any ideas?

If each team member is signing in with their own Adobe ID then each team member has their own private file storage.
When you install the Creative Cloud Connection application then a Creative Cloud Files folder is created on your computer. This folder mirrors you private storage in the cloud.
Currently you can only share links for individual files. Folder sharing is coming.
