That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

You may have a bad hard drive. The flashing folder with the ? indicates that the system cannot find your hard drive. Use the installation disc that came with your machine. Insert it into the disc drive and restart the machine holding down the "C" key . When the restart shows the Apple screen you can release the C keyWhen the installation screen appears, click on the utilities button. Does the left side of the disc utilities screen show your HD? If not, then your HD is bad or it could be a loose connection. ifixit.com has a good tutorial on how to replace the HF in the Macbook. Follow the instructions to remove your HD. Reinstall your HD and boot up your machine to see if it recognizes your HD. If it does't, you probably will need to replace your HD>
Is your machine still under warranty? If so, take it to your nearest Apple Store for repairs as the repairs will be covered under your warranty. If you bought AppleCare when you bought your computer your warranty is for three years. If you didn't buy the Apple Care, then your warranty is only good for one year from the date of purchase. -

Nooo or you would use OS X Recovery Mode: Disk Utilty and then Startup Disk.

My iMac is completely unresponsive. Whenever I restart it, it's just a white screen with a flashing file folder with a question mark in the middle. What does this mean?
this means the mac cannot find the startup disc. which more times than not means you need a hdd replacement.
try starting holding the option key, then using utilities try to repair the disc. -

I have movie covers saved as a jpeg for every movie my family and I own. There is about 700 and they each have a comment of the main actors, release dates, and descriptions. This makes it easy to find what to watch.Is there an applescript, automator, program I can download, or program code supported in xcode that will do the following set of inscructions?
Take the name of the picture file and spotlight comment, copy and paste it to a movie file's comments to a file with the same name but obviously has different extention. For an example
In a Pictures folder
Name: Dark Knight, The.jpeg Comment: (2008) Genre: Action... <- copy comment
In a Movie Folder
Name: Dark Knight, The.m4v Comment: <- paste

After what seems to be a normal upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS X on my early 2008, 24" iMac. My iMac counted down to restart but did not turn all the way off. At the end of the count down the screen went white with a small file folder flashing on and off in the center of the screen. Also there is a ?, question mark in the miaale of the file folder. The screen responds to no keyboard or mouse commands. Request help.
My computer was doing the same as yours hinikuru but now there is a change. I turned my iMac off by the button on the back and left it off for about an hour. When I just turned it on the center Apple logo was back and soon the loading logo for the new Mountain Lion program came up. On the bottom of the logo there is a horizontal sliding bar that says the program will take 34 minutes to load. Time will tell. I have two iMacs and if this goes we'll I will install the new Mountain Lion tomorrow. Hinikuru, I was about to follow the information in one of the side bar blocks titled "More like this" on the right side of this screen when my iMac seemed to fix itself! Good luck. I think not all is lost.

Question marks with some audio files
Hello all,
I've been trying to understand the problem I'm having with some audio files of my website, but to no avail. Some audio file are not loaded up with Quicktime, and only show a question mark with a blue "Q" around it.
In other words, would any of you be able to help me find out why the audio files in the following pages do not work:

to something like BthvnPC2BfM.
Publish to a folder and look in the "Media" folder to see that all your files are there.
A better way to provide a download is to ZIP the music file and link to it via "Link to: A file" in the Link Inspector.
Type "Download" over the file name that appears and select your rollover colors and U or not in the format page. -
I've got a 15" white macbook which I bought about 2 years ago. It froze the other day and wouldn't respond so I shut it down. When I turn it on now it comes up with a flashing file with a question mark on it. How can I fix it? I've tried a few things i've seen online but the futhest ive got is to put the start up disk in when you makes it go to a grey screen with an apple logo and the spinning wheel which then stops spinning. The dmg files have downloaded to the wrong folder - not finished with the install process
The dmg files have downloaded to the wrong folder - I am at the part of the download/install process where the "Welcome" screen appears asking for me to agree to the license agreement. Somewhere on your site, I read that they should NOT go to the applications folder but to the "Users" folder. Can/should I move/drag the folder with the dmg files into the "Users" folder"? If so, before or after I complete the install? I am running MAC OSX 10.7.4 on a MAC Mini.
Also, when the trial period is over, I will use the license number for the purchased software disks, should the dmg's/folders then be moved to the application folder or stay in the "users" section? I have Purvhased Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe Premiere Elements 10, but somewhere on your site it was suggested to download them instead and use the license code at the appropiate time. In the Welcome screen, you can accept the license agreement and can go ahead with the installation. You will be asked for the serial number. If you don't have one, install it as a trial application. By default, it's installed in the Applications folder. However, you can change the installation folder in the third screen, if you have a reason. Please see the screenshot below:
After installing, you can't move application to a different directory by dragging. You need to uninstall and install it again in the folder of your choice.

As has been touched on in various forums (such as here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/797451), when one opens a PDF attachment in Outlook, Acrobat and Reader store the file in the "Temporary Internet Files" folder (f/k/a OLK folder in previous versions of Outlook. There are two major problems with this:
First, as Microsoft has documented in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817878, attachments end up here staying here under certain conditions (go checks your now, you'll find some!), which ends up being a file attachment no man's land, and that can present security risks (e.g. if data we thought was deleted still lives in that folder).
Secondly, the first time you open an attachment in Acrobat and do a Save As, Acrobat is defaulting to the Temporary Internet Files location. This folder (as noted in the thread linked above) is ridiculously hard to get to for the average user, so they can end up storing a file and then losing it.
We've found that if we open Acrobat once, do a save as, and change to the users Documents folder, the change sticks. But how can we have Acrobat default to Documents instead of that temporary location?
Any help is greatly appreciated.Have you check to see if Acrobat sets a registry entry or file preference for the first Save As? That's where I would start looking. Process Monitor is a good tool for this.

I'm a photographer and I would like to share the pictures i retouched with a client, and I cant just send him 18 links, I rather send the link to folder guys when is this going to be available?

The error messages here seems to be caused by the corrupted registries, which related with the folder association.

I have several old Kodak Photo CD with PCD image files. I am now using Photoshop CS5. Some years ago while using Photoshop CS4 I copied a file: "Photo CD.8BI" from an older, CS2, version to the Plug-ins/File Format folder of CS4. This does not appear to work with CS5. Any fix?
It can be made to work, but you have to run the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5, and as I recall there's an additional DLL called pcdlib32.dll that's needed from the old installation.
