File folders on nano

there's this file folder in my nano that automatically pops up whenever i use the disk use...the name is DATA(ipod's name eg: DATAmyk101) it is 41.5kb in size..and nothing in it...it re-routes me to my documents if ever i tried to open it..
this happened after i used disk mode and save some files from other computer...i tried to delete it...but it keeps coming back whenever i put the nano into disk mode again..
worst is...it transfered to my pc's file folders...what it did is copy a certain file folders name say in my music...i have a folder named greenday...i clicked it and see whats inside..then the "folder named greenday would appear...and when i tried to open it...i was rerouted to my documents on the right half of the screen and the left half is in explore mode..any of you guys thinks what im thinking right now..a possible virus?
i tried to detect it with avg but no virus was found...
i'm really poor with computer skills...so i guess i'd turn this nail biting problem to you guys reading this out there...who might know how to get rid of this folder once and for all...it's pretty annoying you know..

You can attempt to remove the files manually. The most efficient way would be to backup your own Home Folder, then do a completely new installation, and migrate your Home Folder from backup.

Played with files/folders when trying to add 2nd library all messed up now.

I know there are many threads on this subject. First when I got my new laptop I transfered my library. It worked but the folder listings looked different/odd to me. Now husband decided he wanted a nano and I tried to add 2nd library to my laptop. I think I followed the directions but apparently did not. I also tried to move and drag some files/folders together because I have so many folders. There are multiple itunes, itunes music, ipod ?files/folders. I have the same problem as others ! shows up when I tried to play any songs. Find in other location. I found them but then what do I do? I barely know computer basics so any help needs to be very, very basic. How should I proceed? How should my folders look? Music-> iTunes->iPod-> Album Artwork->iTunes-> iTunes music etc. If I can't get itunes to work should I delete all music from computer and remove itunes and start over? Frankly I do not know why they don't have a video to follow to help computer stupid people like me. By the number of posts you would think hey make videos to cover these problems. My iPod 80GB is fine with everything present. I have been good about keeping back ups on disks. My music library contains only 140 music purchases and has a total of 900 songs, album artwork, and 25 photos. Any help would be great there is a lot of stress in the house about this subject. I can't fathom the iTs way of doing things - but not quite doing things. Are files Windows files of are they iTs? What job does the .itl file have? Is iTs just a series of pointers to (real) Windows files?
Can files be moved around Windows folders and be recognised by iTs, or is iTs a file manager too?
It's a dog's breakfast to me. Too clever by half. An entire system within another entire system. I'll be waiting..

Loop Browser - Removing files/folders not indexed in the Apple Loops Index

Hi...
I experimented with dragging in a SFX folder to the Logic Pro Loop Browser window. It asked me if I wanted to copy files to the Apple Loops folder or reference the original files, and I selected reference the originasl files.
The SFX files were then listed under the OTHER area of the View menu.
Question... HOW do I remove these SFX files/folder from the OTHER view menu?
I have tried deleting all of the Apple Loop Index files and that did not work.
I have tried deleting the actual SFX files/folders, and after they disappear, but when I restore the SFX files/folders to their source location they reappear in the logic browser view menu.
Is there some where else Logic stores Loop Browser reference data which can be deleted to remove these OTHER files/folders from the Loop Browser view menu?

Success...
OK I found the solution.
1) I deleted the SFX audio files from the referenced HDD source location.
2) I opened Logic and re-index the Loop Browser.
3) I quit Logic and copied the SFX files back to the HDD.
When I opened Logic this time, the SFX files/folders referenced under the OTHER menu were gone.
Because I have a huge production music & SFX library, the best way to audition these sources for use in a Logic project, is to audition in iTunes and then just drag whatever I need right from within itunes into the Logic project.
That keeps my Logic loop browser more manageable and focused on composing.

I tried deleting FireFox and reinstalling it multiple times, and a message pops up sometimes that says FireFox may not have installed correctly, so I follow the steps, but all the extra icons on my desktop don't go away. This has happened every time I have downloaded FireFox. The browser itself works, but I need to know how to get rid of these icons, but still be able to use FireFox. This is on a new computer, with Windows 7.

Read-only access permissions for new files/folders?

System:
Clean Install on new intel Xserve
10.4.8 Server w/ Open Directory
Windows clients can read/write completely fine...
Clients connecting using AFP (whether Standard or Kerberos authentication) can access files, but when new files/folders are created on the server, they register as full permissions for the user who created them, but not for the rest of the group.
The share(s) in question are set using POSIX from WGM: Full access for owner/group/everyone (changed it to this thinking it would help, but it does not). Of course, no one can make changes to a newly-created/deposited files/folders, which is just plain silly.
I can chmod the permissions recursively from a script (which fixes the problem, of course) on a regular basis so that its not (as much of) an issue, but there is still a 5-minute lag for the script to kick in, since we don't want to bombard the server with chmod requests every minute....which is unnecessary in the first place!
I have plenty of other setups which are identical but have no such issue...
Any reason why POSIX permissions on the share are being ignored from every user account?

I'm afraid this is dead wrong. What matters most is how you set permissions on the share, not if you've chosen to inherit vs. using POSIX. POSIX is still used in inherit functions, though you can use ACL's to override them. In this case, ACL's are not being used on those shares (though we tried it).
After all, why would Apple (let alone anyone else) even offer the ability to change POSIX permissions on a share if it didn't have any effect? That would be somewhat contradictory in nature.
Like I said before, I have several other installations which are identically setup that have no such issues.
As for Windows, it is also not set to inherit permissions; we're setting those explicitly. And they work fine.
Any other ideas?

Now visualize the 'page' but WITHOUT the margin and the entries in it. It just disappeared while I was editing photos.
I've tried all the 'File', 'Edit', 'View', 'Share' 'Window' & 'Help' options, but no success.
There is no apparent way of calling up onto the screen any photos, folders etc. because I can't get the margin and its contents back onto the iphoto page.
I've tried restoring the page from my backup, where it is all perfect, but that didn't work.

Hello! I'm looking for an app (OSX Mavericks 10.9.5) that can allow me to easily right-click on any file or folder and make it invisible or hidden
I have my MacBook Pro setup in a way that just makes things easier for me with music production.. I would like to be able to "Hide" a bunch of folders/files that have to do with my music directories..
The reason for this is that some of these files/folders may only be used once a year (if that).. but they're critical enough to what I do that I need to be sure that they're always on-hand and available when I need them.. I'm pretty good with computers and already have an Alfred 2 workflow set up to toggle "Show/Hide Hidden Files/Folders", so I'm not the type to "Hide" something and then freak out when I can't find it, without at least knowing to check "Show Hidden Files/Folders" first lol..
I *DO NOT* want an app that will be physically moving the files or folders anywhere else but their current locations!
I need recommendations for an app that can meet the following criteria (for those too lazy to read so far):
-Quick and Simple
-Does not require me to drag my selection to the dock or have any extra windows open
-Does not move files or folders from current location
-Does not cause interference with program/system files
-Can be accessed via right-clicking on what it is you want hidden/invisible

The last days, I can't right click on my dekstop. Right click works on any other icon/app etc of course. At the same time, files/folders that I have in desktop, and I can see them through finder, are not displayed. However, if I login with the guest account, the problem is not reproduced.
Any ideas?

Help needed in recovering files/folders after using xfs_repair

So it started out with whammy! Some files were not playing (audio) which previously they were doing fine without any issue !
So I thought of changing the permission and got many errors regarding abnormal inodes and since I was using XFS filesystem I tried fixing the issue by using xfs_repair
Now the catch is that during the repair xfs_repair wizard deleted many folders and stated a message that "moving to lost+found"
The issue is I am not able to locate any folders in /lost+found and whats intriguing is that most of the inodes and links to the folders (deleted/moved) are still visible with ls -l

I forgot to eject camera before disconnecting, and somehow left five file folders on the desktop that have the same name as the device, can't open, delete,eject, or move.

Where do you stand now regarding those folders? Are the photos still on the camera's memory card ( the SD card or Compact Flash)? If so, you could reconnect the camera and use your usual transfer software to perform the action once again. Do you transfer the photos straight to iPhoto? Use Image Capture? The camera's bundled software? We can start the hunt for the files by doing a Spotlight search by typing in the name of the folders (or even just the camera) to see what is already on the internal drive after the unsuccessful disconnect.

Files/folders created in Windows share are read-only... why and how to fix?

Client: MacBook Pro running 10.7.5
Server: Windows 7 desktop
I'm sharing a folder from the Windows 7 machine and mounting it on my Mac using Finder's "Connect to Server..." and an smb:// URI. I'm providing a user ID/password for an account on the Windows 7 box that has full control over the shared folder, via smb://userid:password@server/share.
The volume mounts properly on my desktop, can I can see files/folders there as expected. However:
If I create a folder, it's read-only. I cannot create any files inside (or even see inside), rename the folder, or delete the folder. The folder has a badge: red circle with bar.
If I create a file, it's read-only. I cannot rename it, delete it or edit it.
If I examine File Info via Finder on any of these files or folders, under Sharing & Permissions it says "You have custom access."
If I try to delete these files/folders, I get error code -8072. I can delete them from the command-line, but I can't otherwise manipulate them.
I've verified on the Windows box that the user ID I'm using has full control of the folder. I've also set it so Everyone has full control, with no difference.
This seems to have been a recent change in behaviour (a few weeks ago I was copying data to this drive, no problem), and it's driving me crazy because I can't figure out how to fix it.

It is always good counsel to Repair Disk Permissions (from the internal HDD) before and after any new installation.
To change permissions in our Applications Folder:
Select Applications Folder.
Get Info (Command + i)
Go down to Ownership & Permissions
Click on arrow next to Details to expand.
Click on lock and authenticate
Owner is system
Group is admin
Change all permissions to Read & Write except Others
Other can Read only.

Create a JTree model that only reads the children of node when required. I use a simple cache (I hate using a cache but in this case it is needed) to minimise the number of disk reads but I use a TreeExpansionListener to remove items from the cache when a node is about to be collapsed e.g.
    public void treeWillCollapse(TreeExpansionEvent event)
        Object lastElement = event.getPath().getLastPathComponent();
        childCache_.remove(lastElement);
    }
