File formats on purchased songs.

When I purchase songs from ITunes, they are in an ACC format.  To use on the shuffle, I need to convert to a MP3 Format.  I now have duplicates of the songs.  I know this is a silly question, but I would rather be safe than sorry.  Can I delete the ACC format, thus only have the MP3 format in my library.

Can I delete the ACC format, thus only have the MP3 format in my library.
Yes, you can.
However, it would be easier to just buy the songs in MP3 format in the first place and save the extra trouble.  Good places to buy MP3s are Amazon MP3 and Google Play Music.
MP3s will work in virtually every player, program, and device, both Apple and non-Apple.

  • Can I convert the file format of purchased songs?

I'm trying to put together a movie for my kids with a song I purchased through iTunes but it is a mp4 file - which will not work in my movie-making software! Can I convert the song to mp3??!! Help!!!

Yes, but it's a 2 step process. First, burn the mp4 file to a cd, like one you can play in a regular player. Then import the cd back as an mp3 file (you set this up under preferences, import tab). I do this to all of my iTunes songs because they are worthless unless I can play them on devices other than my iPod.

  • Locating lost original files, I lost purchased songs

Locating lost original files. I can no longer listen to several songs I purchased. I get a message that the "original file cannot be located." What to do?
    Thank you,
    Hunter

If the upgrade to Vista somehow erased the files, you'll need to restore them from your backup or, if a feature of the country you're in, download the content again from the iTunes Store. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Note that movies can be re-downloaded only in the US as of right now, and then not all movie studios have granted that license.

  • File Formats - Digitizing LPs

    Hi
I've been digitizing my LP collection using the AIFF file format. Most songs are in the 30-40MB range and my 320 GB HD is filling up fast.
My plan is to get Apple TV, play them over my home theater speakers and get rid of the LPs when I'm done. I want good quality, but do the files need to be this big? Should I convert them to some other format? If so, how can I do this in batch?

I digitized a number of my LPs, many of which were by obscure groups and never re-released on CD. I even went to the extent of using software to individually isolate cracks and pops and interpolate, so I spent a lot of time doing that. Although AAC is high-quality it is still lossy and you won't be able to regain the original without going to all the work again. With all the effort I put in I chose to use FLAC compression to archive the original on archival grade DVDs and hard drives, then used a lossy compression (I used MP3 for wider compatibility but AAC is better quality) to have a copy for everyday listening. FLAC will compress to about 60% off the size of the original AIFF and can be expanded again to an identical original. Apple Lossless does something similar but I chose FLAC because ALE is proprietary and you have to use iTunes whereas FLAC is open source and available for any platform and in multiple programs.
FLAC is not part of iTunes and iTunes does not play FLAC (a big omission in my opinion). I use X ACT 1.6 Audio Compression to do conversions.

  • Burning Purchased Songs

I know some programs similar to iTunes either limit the number of burns you can do or don't let you burn the songs at all. Does iTunes fall into one of these categories? I've never burned purchased songs, but I recently got a gift card and I want to make sure I would be able to.
    Thanks,
    Matt

The 7 time burn limit is there, but there is a rather simple way around it. Simply burn the CD in whatever order you want, then re-import that CD you just burned into iTunes. You can then delete the protected AAC files of the purchased songs and use the newly imported files instead. This way the 7 burn limit to each playlist is eliminated.
This will result in a transcoded file, which will result in a file of slightly lesser sound quality, but try it and see if you notice it and can live with the difference.

  • Why is my iPhone 5 skipping/not playing any of my songs in an mpeg-1 layer 3 file format? This only started happening after I updated to iOS 8.

I'm getting really upset with this ridiculous nonsense!! Ever since that lousy upgrade to iOS 8, mind you I did not get the worthless recalled iOS 8.0.1 update, my phone has been freaking out. Glitching and freezing are now common place and my apps, which I have never had a problem with in the past, are now crashing without warning. To top it all off my phone, which has had NO problems in this area before iOS 8, is all of sudden skipping and now deleting all of my mpeg-1 layer 3 music files without my consent!! This leads me to assume that the only two explanations are 1) this is just a huge screw up on Apples part and now several of their technical lackeys are feverishly working to get a reasonable working update out and to quell a lot of unnecessary headaches like mine and many others OR 2) Apple is now forcing our hand in purchasing songs only in their own personal format, MP4 I believe it is. Either way, I'm more than a little ****** off and I'm sure Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave at the large amount of excrement disguised as Apple products and operating systems his beloved company is dumping on it's faithful customers.

    Try
Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID: > Sign out then sign back in.
Assuming you have Internet connection to the Internet.

  • Is it possible to purchase songs in mp3 format or to change them to MP3 after purchase

Is it possible to purchase songs from the istore in the MP3 format?  or can I convert them to MP3 after purchase?

As given,  music purchases from the iTunes store are in AAC format. Amazon and others offer mp3s.
To convert your files to MP3, setup your import settings (Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings) for the target format & bitrate, select tracks, right-click and click Create MP3 version.
Note that unless converting from one lossless format to another you will lose some audio quality in any conversion. Whether that loss is noticeable or acceptable is for you to determine.
If you do decide to change formats, and don't want to keep the duplicate originals in the library, then you may find my ConvertFormat script useful.

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

I just purchased the new Canon SX60 camera. Despite downloading and installing the latest version of Adobe DNG converter, I receive an error message saying that Photoshop CS4 can't open up/convert raw files (.CR2). This is the same file format as used by the SX50, with which I never had any problem. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras  I do not see that SX60 as supported. Just how new is the SX60 when was it announces. Its support is not even listed in ACR 8.7 RC

I would love that feature. I can't stand useing my computer with a single wall paper anymore (I have 500 anime pics that i rotate between every 2 mins ) If you could make the vision rotate background every x minutes or every time the player is turned on, it would be totally amazeningly sweet!!!! (i might have to go out and buy one then :P)
I just hope that creative has better firmware support with the vision than they have had with the touch.
    Once again, great review

  • Files for purchased songs not located

I have tried to transfer some recently purchased songs from Itunes into my library as it wasn't happening automatically. Some of them come up with an exclamation mark and say the file cannot be located. Tried to search but don't really know where to look. I could understand if they had been imported from another source but I just bought them. Help!

Nevermind. I was looking in the wrong place. Found it in the store under purchases.

  • HT204406 I have a song that is in the following format: 256 kbps, 48 kb in size, and an AAC file format. Why would is it noted in imatch as ineligible?

I have a song that is in the following format: 256 kbps, 48 kb in size, and an AAC file format. Why  is it tagged in imatch as ineligible?

I ended up reformating the drive as FAT32 because I still need to use it on my Windows 98SE system also. I did have a problem with the allocation size. I wanted to use 512 bytes but it kept failing so I used the default size(8192 bytes) and then it worked fine. I didn't think there would be a problem formatting as NTFS but since you are having problems I just tried it. It failed at 512 bytes allocation size so I tried again using 4096 bytes, the default, as the allocation size and it failed again. It looks like these drives will not format as NTFS.
Also, I think I figured out what's going on with the ReadyBoost problem. As I said initially it wouldn't work with ReadyBoost then after I had 12GB of data on the drive the ReadyBoost feature started working. After I deleted all the files it quit working again. After doing some reading on the net about Flash drives and ReadyBoost problems it appears that the memory chips on my Lenovo Flash drive are mixed with both fast memory chips that work fine with ReadyBoost and slower memory  chips that are too slow for ReadyBoost. Apparently, after I fill up the portion of memory with data that uses the slow chip(s) then ReadyBoost works fine with the fast chip(s).  I also verified the Flash drives read and write memory speeds using Vista's Event Viewer. To work with ReadyBoost the Flash drive has to read at a minimum of 2.5MB/s (for 4KB random reads) and write at a minimum of  1.75MB/s (for 512KB random writes).
Let me know what you find out.

  • HT1933 My new computer has been authorized, but I can't play any of my purchased songs in itunes.  What do I do to play, I get an error message that original files cannot be found.

My new HP ENVY 23 TOUCHSMART PC has been authorized for itunes, but I can't play any of my purchased itunes songs.  When I try to play a purchased song in my itunes library, I get an error message prompt stating that the song could not be used because the original file could not be found.  When I check for available downloads it states that all downloads have been made.  Ironically, all my movie purchases play fine, but the songs do not play.  What do I have to do to play my purchased songs?

The 'unable to locate' message means that you don't have those music files on that computer, or that they are not where iTunes is expecting them to be. How did you get the entries for those tracks in your new computer's iTunes ?
If you still have your old computer then you can try copying them over again : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
You may also be able to re-download them from the store (checking for available downloads only checks for items that have not yet been downloaded, not for past purchases) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (re-downloading music isn't possible in all countries). You may need to delete them form your library first (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message), otherwise iTunes will assume that you still have them somewhere and won't let you re-download them.
