File from the internet won't open because from an unidentified developer

I downloaded Maverick and then tried to open a downloaded file and it came back that it was from an "unidentified developer" and could not be opned. What do I do?

Ctrl (right) click the file & choose 'Open' - then follow the prompts if you want to trust it.

  • PDF files on the Internet won't open...thanks to new Adobe update?

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro. I installed Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and now can't open any pdf files on the Internet.  Before I spend $39 calling an Adobe tech, I wonder if anyone can help?

In my case, the problem occured only when I used Firefox.  I followed your advice in that regard and retried opening several pdf's that previously would not display.  All did display in 32-bit mode for FireFox.    Your statement that "We don't support Firefox in 64-bit mode."  and your self-description as "Emploee" lead me to think that you are an Adobe employee.  I'm new to all this, so sorry if my inference about who you are is wrong.  But if it is correct, then your advice would seem to be from-the-source-credible.  I hope that in the future, Adobe will support Firefox in 64-bit mode.
One question though:  If, as you state, Adobe does not support Safari 5.1 in 64-bit mode,  why haven't I had the same problem displaying pdf's with version 5.1.5 Safari?  Only guess I can make at that is that as of Safari 5.1.5 (vs. Safari 5.1), Adobe does support Safari in 64-bit mode.  Anyway, thank you!  And I hope that in my newness to all this, I haven't confused things too badly.

  • Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper)

Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.
    thank you

Pages can export only its own documents. They may be exported as PDF, MS Word, RTF or Text files.
Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.
    Best of luck.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Is it safe to download adobe flash drive update from the internet (came via a notice from Adobe)

Is it safe to download an update from Adobe Flash Drive via the internet? A message from Adobe has popped up on a number of videos I'm trying to access.

If you are sure it is from Adobe, yes.
If you have the least little bit of doubt then go to the Adobe site yourself and download from their site and then install it.

  • How can I prevent my iMac from disconnecting from the internet?

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, my iMac keeps disconnecting from the internet when I'm away from the computer for a bit. It's not a huge deal but it is pretty annoying to have to wait for the modem to reconnect every time. Why is it doing this, and is there any way to prevent it?
I'm on a 2007 iMac with the most recent versions of Mountain Lion and Safari. My internet connection is via DSL.

    HI,
Each version of the OS can reconnect at different rates depending what was running before the computer went to sleep.
If I let my G4/1Ghz Tower go to Sleep it takes a long time to respond in general and by the time I can use it the Network is Connected.
However my 2011 iMac (i5)  is fairly zippy but apps can be "ready" before the Network is confirmed.
I notice particularly if I have Messages and  Browser open.

  • Acrobat Reader can't open PDF file downloaded from the internet

I downloaded the following pdf file from the internet and saved it to the desktop. When I tried to open the file I got a message saying Acrobat couldn't open it. I do not have trouble opening other PDF files. There is something about opening certain PDF files from the internet that is causing this. Is there a setting in the PDF preferences that is causing this or some security setting.
    http://www.porteverglades.net/include/content/docs/media/Port-map-2009.pdf

It seems that Safari is unable to export the document as a PDF because the exported file was zero bytes. That's why I couldn't open it. I tried Firefox and did a File>Save. It saved the file as a PDF which I was able to open. So proglem solved.

  • I apparently got stung with the Adobe flash virus.  Now I cannot open any .pdf files from the internet.

I apparently got stung with the Adobe flash virus and now I cannot open any Adobe .pdf files from the internet.  Fix?

Go to F_Secure's Flashback Removal Tool web page, download their Flashback trojan detection/removal tool, and follow the instructions you find there.
Also install the latest java update which also tries to remove these trojans.
Java for OS X Lion 2012-003
And only download the adobe flash plugin from the adobe site.
    Update:
Just because you cannot download pdf may not be an indication of the trojan.  There's been a number of reports about problems like that with pdf's.  Look at the More Like This section on the right side of this page.

I am running mac os x 10.5 i can download files from the internet but adobe reader 9 keeps telling me they can not decode them,( Adobe Reader could not open 'dap93.exe' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged) (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). help!

Adobe Reader does not open .EXE files, it opens .PDF files.  If you were on Windows I would tell you to fix the file association, but I have no idea how to do that on a Mac.

  • When i try download a file from the internet it looks like its downloading then when i go to open this file it opens up in the app text edit and says it cannot open i DOS mode? Can anyne help?

when i try to download a file from the internet it starts to download but when its finished it opens up in the app "text edit" and it says this file cannot open in DOS mode.
    Can anyone help?

It sounds like perhaps the file doesn't have an extension that the system recognizes. Is this all files, or just one specific one, and if so, which? What is the name (and extension, if it has one) of the downloaded file? What kind of file do you *expect* it to be? (PDF, or whatever). Renaming a file with the appropriate extension can often fix that kind of problem.

You are attempting to download the picture to your computer not uploading photo to the website if I am understanding you correctly.
To change the download direction, you must do so through your browser's Preferences.  If you are using Safari, hopefully, someone who uses Safari will help you and/or post over in their forums.  I do not use Safari.

Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Opening a pdf file from the internet.

Everytime I try to open a pdf file from the internet a window pops up and tells me that my adobe reader has a problem or gives me a blank page.  I have ie 10, adobe reader XI and adobe acrobat 8 pro.  All this is on win 7.  When I installed the acrobat 8 pro it could not find the adobepdf.dll.  I searched the disc, and tried to direct the installation to it but it would not accept it.  What can I do to correct this issue?

Yes, unlike earlier IE versions, IE10 has only one executable, but it can run in 32-bit or 64-bit mode.
