File icon blues

I have a U2 iPod. I get a file icon when I turn it on, and then it shuts off after a few seconds. I tried fully charging it, then downloaded the latest version of iTunes, then tried updating it, but I received a message that it could not be updated due to corrupted files. So, I "reset" it, then "restored" it and wiped it clean. I'm still getting the file icon and shut down. This thing has barely been used. It worked well until we took it to France and plugged it into a computer using a USB cable to charge it. It seemed to freeze up after that, and wouldn't work at all. When we got back to the states we recharged it, and it turned on and worked fine. Now, six months later, after little use and a lot of sitting idle, this. Please help! Thanks.

Hi,
I don't know about ANYONE else but I FOUND mixed CASE typing like THAT really HARD to read, I kept THINKING perhaps there IS a SECRET message IN there someWHERE, but COULD never FIND it.
Anyway, on a more serious note, try putting an example on the public Oracle server (apex.oracle.com) it should make it easier to diagnose your problem.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended file icon.

Whenever I save a .PSD file, the file icon is a white background with the Photoshop program icon on it, instead of the default blue photoshop file or .PSD file icon. Please tell me how I can fix this. Is this a bug or do I have to change something in the settings? I really want the original Photoshop CS6 File icon. Please help.

You can change the file icon by editing your file associations under Extras --> Folder Options --> File associations. Select the Photoshop image file type, change the icon. Just be aware that depending on your folder view options, Windows may still display an alternate icon at times e.g. in file dialogs...

  • File Icons changed in Mavericks. How do I change them back?

I am on a MacBook Pro and, since upgrading to Mavericks, the file icons in the finder have become generic grey icons with the file extension on them. I can no longer see the Word files with little blue icons, Excel file icons with little green icons etc. Weirdly, I can still see the colored file icons in Coverflow view and in List view, but not in Columns and Icons. I can also see the colored file icons when selecting a file to attach to an email. In the file information window (clicking command I when a file is highlighted) the icon in the top left corner is the colored file icon.

Well this solution did not work for the Icon View.  All the other views show the correct icon (and might have before I changed all view types in Get Info > File Options > Uncheck Show Icon Preview
This worked for fixing the Icon View for me.  Pages and Numbers files were fine but not my FileMaker files or Word or Excel (and maybe more).  I opened Get Info on one FileMaker document.  Just below the Red Yellow Green dots at the top is a tiny icon to the left of the file name.  Left click on the icon which looks basically white).  You will see a thin blue line around the icon.  Go up to the Menu Bar (File Edit View etc) and click on Edit then copy.  Then go to the same icon you just copied on the Get Info window and left click then do Edit again from the Menu Bar and Paste.  You can also use the shortcuts cmmand c or command v to copy and paste.  For some magical reason coping a white icon pasted the correct preview to the icon.
Every single icon of programs that won't display icons properly will have to be fixed this way.  I was thinking about using search for file type and grinding it out like orcs or wargs in Lord of the Rings Online.  Apple this isn't a good way to make me have Determination.

  • Flashing file icon w/ question mark at start up

My MacBook had been working fine on Tiger since I bought it last august, and a few months ago I installed Leopard, which also worked great except for safari freezing up every once in a while. But today when I tried to start it up and the blue screen appeared, it stayed like that for about ten seconds, and then a flashing file icon with a question mark appeared. I have no idea what it means, I can't make it startup. I've turned it on and off a few times, hoping for the best, but nothing. This computer is not even a year old, any help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple boards:
Your first hint that something was wrong was when Safari started freezing.
You may have a bad HD or at least one that is going bad.
Boot into the Leopard DVD and in the menu select Utilities and disk utility and repair HD and permissions.
    See if that helps.
You may need more powerful tools such as DiskWarrior to repair the drive if it's flaky.
If the computer is less than a year old, you may be able to get it fixed at a local Apple store.

  • Flashing file icon -HELP!

This morning my IMAC 24 Mid 2007 model was having a number of kernel attacks, I tunred it off and now all I get is either a grey screen, blue screen or a flashing file icon against a white background - what should I do to fix this?

that's not a kernel panic then. I didn't know what you were talking about because there is no such thing as a kernel attack.
You should still do what I told you because your hard drive is not being recognized.

  • Problem with the PNG file icon

Hello. This is the first time I'm posting something here, so please be merciful. :) Yesterday I saw that the file icons of the PNG files are not the blue ones (like we all know them, after installing Photoshop CS3), but the default Windows (I'm using Windows XP SP3) icons. I mean like when I don't have a program to open a given file, that is how it looks like. But when I double click on the PNG file it opens right away, so in my eyes there is a problem, of some kind, with the ICO file itself. The strangest thing is that this ICO file is not missing, deleted or moved! This happened only with the PNG files. All other Photoshop related files are ok and have their respective icons. Can someone tell me how to change the PNG file icon, so I can choose manually the ICO file.

@roshlioto This is a windows issue NOT Photoshops. So wrong place on the Internet.
However, you right click on the shortcut/icon whatever, (in Windows) and choose the icon/app you wish to associate with a given file.

  • Missing PS file Icons

Recently, for no apparent reason when I went to open a psd file from Photoshop I noticed all my psd icons had been replaced by generic icons.
Raw files, jpgs, ai, etc. still retain their icons, it's only the psd files.
Everything still works normally except that the files now organize themselves differently (raw, psd and jpgs with the same name used to stay together- now the psd's go to the end of the list in the folder). Any suggestions as to what may have happened?

I'm looking in every folder where I have pictures that I took with my digital camera, worked on and saved as psd files. Yes, I used to see the little blue icons with the P. Now the psd files have generic file icons (I don't know what else to call them).
I have Windows XP and I've tried every option I can think of. The P shows up as an option I can choose but it never shows up after I choose it. Luckily everything still functions normally.
Thanks for your response. Is there any other forum that would be helpful?

  • Strange AW File Icons under Leopard

Since I installed Leopard, my AppleWorks files all have a strange icon, an empty, dashed square with rounded corners. The info panel shows it as "Open with:" AppleWorks 6, however, there is a spinning "gear" and "Fetching..." below the "More Info:" heading. (More research shows that this "Fetching..." behavior is also true of non-AppleWorks files. I'll post that observation separately.) If I double-click on one of these files, it opens normally in AppleWorks. AppleWorks (6.2.9) in the Dock still has the normal icon. So everything seems normal, except for the user file icons. What happened them?

Here's a thread in Feedback about Discussions with the information you need to put images in your posts.
Another possibility is that OS X is "confused" about what program is to open those files. Using Disk Utility to repair permissions & restarting your Mac will sometimes "fix" the problem.
If you can't post a picture & repairing permissions doesn't work, send me a couple of the files, or at least a picture of them, & I'll see what I can decipher.
Click my name in blue next to this post. My public e-mail address is in the biography section. Just replace (AT) with @. You'll notice while you are in my profile that I am a nurse, so I do understand confidentiality very well & I've done similar checks for other users here, too.

  • Gmail attach file icon does not work

Is there a way to fix this problem? I tried network.http.spdy.enabled to false. No go. I tried resetting all the settings in ie, per a suggestion somewhere, no go.
Safe mode - does not work.
This problem seems to have come from no where. I can drag files into gmail, but the attach file icon does nothing.
Attach file icon works in IE, but I am trying to use Firefox.
Is there a fix or do I need a new computer?

I also have this problem. It just started today out of the blue. Whenever I hit "attach file" in gmail, I never get a "file explorer" popup. Simply nothing happens.
    * I'm running 31.0 on Mac 10.8.5.
    * I have tried resetting firefox several times. I've tried restarting in safe mode multiple times. Nothing will allow the window to appear.
    * I've tried various (old) fixes I found through searching (mostly involving about:config settings) but none worked.
    * Drag and dropping files onto a note DOES work (but this is no solution!).
    * I have cleared the cache several times but to no avail
    * I don't have the stomach (or time) now to completely uninstall and re-install. Not yet anyway.
    * This function works fine in Chrome and Safari
I finally went and UNCHECKED popup blocking. Now I get the file popup immediately! So it would seem that somehow Firefox is blocking the file "finder" interface as a popup. What gives?

  • On Finder Freeze/Relaunch All my desktop files & icons disappear

    The title sums it up.
When ever my mac decides to go into spinning wheel mode and I have to force quit/relaunch finder, when I relaunch finder every desktop file & icon disappear.
At that point I'm forced to push the shutdown button on the tower and reboot, then all is well until the next time.
And the next time could be a day or a few days or a week. No rhyme or reason why.
Please help me solve this frustrating problem.
    Thanks

Cloud backup plans can slow your Mac down, and if used simultaneously with your Mac's networking, or you have an unreliable internet connection, could be the cause of your freezes.  You may be better off seeing if turning off iCloud temporarily helps.   This can especially be a problem with non-Apple routers whose firmware may not be up to date.   Multitasking with backups can lead to corruption of your backups.  Time Machine should only backup to hard drives twice the capacity of the original, otherwise it spends a lot of time trying to discover which archives to eraes to maintain room.  Here are some other options:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
Energy Saver can also create problems for backups, as it takes a moment for the Mac to recognize the connection.  Use screen saver instead of Energy Saver when backing up.  System Preferences lets you control both.   Putting hard drives to sleep when backing up is ill advised.

  • InDesign files take long to open when clicking file icon

Ok, I have a weird problem with a Windows XP machine running InDesign CS6. Whenever the user tries to open an .INDD document by double-clicking the file icon itself, it takes 3-5 minutes, literally, before the document will open. This is with InDesign running already. It happens with .indd files on servers, locally on the desktop, files with content & links, and even completely new & blank documents.
However, if the user simply drags the file into InDesign, it will open up right away. No problem.
This behavior is not being seen on other WinXP machines, nor is it being seen when trying to open other documents in other applications (i.e. MS Word) on this particular computer.
Any ideas? This machine had Windows XP and Adobe CS6 reinstalled from scratch yesterday.
    Thanks!
    William

Sad that this issue was never addressed or responded to, for I am having the same exact problem with InDesign CS5.5 and with files located on a network server. I tried the above suggestion of dragging the file directly into InDesign but that doesn't work everytime.

  • How do I put a "close file" icon in the toolbar? I've searched for an hour to find the answer with no luck?

How do I put a "close file" icon in the toolbar? There's an "open file" icon by default, but I cannot -- in spite of searching for an hour--find a way to put a "close file" icon in there?

  • How do I remove "All My Files" icons from the toolbar?

    Good Afternoon:
I have A shiny new 15" MBPro that came preinstalled with Lion that I have updated to 10.7.1.
If I open a finder window, there are two "All My Files" icons on either side of the toolbar. I asked a Genius about it and they said they had never seen that. I can remove "All My Files" from the list of Favorites on the left easily enough. I can open up the window to customize the ToolBar, but in that window there are no "All My Files" icons available to add or delete.
How do I remove the "All My Files" icons from the toolbar?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Below is a screenshot of the problem.

Sort of surprised they didn't know. I'm lost as to why that even appeared on your computer unless you had put them there yourself which, clearly, you didn't if it was brand new out of the box.
    Glad it's sorted out.

  • Please Help - PDF File icon No longer working???

Ok this may sound a bit wierd, but bare with me.  Ok so I just got a new laptop because my old one was going a little wonky..... long story short, it's gone.  So I was transfering some pdf files that I had backed up to an external drive onto my new system.  Both systems are running on Windows 7 Ultimate.  So in a folder I have a number of PDF's stored.  When I open the folder I see all the files, but they all look the same, they all have the default Adobe reader icon.  This is fine, but I would much rather have my old view back.  I used to open the folder and see all of the Covers of the books that are in the pdf's.  How can I get the covers to show as the file icon again as oposed to the Adobe file icon?  There has to be something that I'm missing.  Sorry to have rambled on. I look forward to hearing your sugestions.

Thanx for the suggestion.  I did the steps that i found on google to create the enable/disable thumbnail option and changing it to enable, i can tell it has changed to enable because other file types show the thumbnails but the pdf files are still not showing.

  • How can I change (or select) what is being being used when I share, as the file cover. When I Share lets say "Master File" i want to select a frame that is used as the file cover. So when its on my desktop I see this image as the file icon.

How can I change (or select) what is being being used when I share, as the file cover. When I Share lets say "Master File" i want to select a frame that is used as the file cover. So when its on my desktop I see this image as the file icon.

I don't think Finder does this (I've tried).
iTunes does though. Where you can set artwork or the "poster frame"...
This may not be what you want but if it helps, I know 2 ways  do this is
Open the video in QuicktimePlayer7 | View | Set Poster Frame (even then, you might need to save it as .mov (ie in a 'mov container').
Drag the file into iTunes and set the artwork (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-album-cover-art-or-images-in-itunes .html)
From there, iTunes will use that frame as the "poster frame" ie the photo/frame that shows when you browse your videos. Which is what you want, but limited to iTunes.
When I do either of these above, the frame I set does not show when exploring files in "Finder" (or in the other Explorer tool I use called "Pathfinder").
So it maybe, that exactly what you want, is not possible.
