File icon changed

All of the sudden, the orange Illustrator icon that goes next to each file in my documents has changed to a white one with blurry colored shapes inside it. Anybody have any idea why and how to get it to go back to the orange one?

Which Os you are working on?
If it is Mac you can follow following steps::
This is because the file Icon preview has been turned on. Following  steps may help:
1. Go To Finder
2. In View Menu  of finder select 'Show View Options'
3. In this uncheck the 'show  icon preview' check box.
now you will see the  Illustrator icon on files instead of file preview.

  • File Icons changed in Mavericks. How do I change them back?

I am on a MacBook Pro and, since upgrading to Mavericks, the file icons in the finder have become generic grey icons with the file extension on them. I can no longer see the Word files with little blue icons, Excel file icons with little green icons etc. Weirdly, I can still see the colored file icons in Coverflow view and in List view, but not in Columns and Icons. I can also see the colored file icons when selecting a file to attach to an email. In the file information window (clicking command I when a file is highlighted) the icon in the top left corner is the colored file icon.

Well this solution did not work for the Icon View.  All the other views show the correct icon (and might have before I changed all view types in Get Info > File Options > Uncheck Show Icon Preview
This worked for fixing the Icon View for me.  Pages and Numbers files were fine but not my FileMaker files or Word or Excel (and maybe more).  I opened Get Info on one FileMaker document.  Just below the Red Yellow Green dots at the top is a tiny icon to the left of the file name.  Left click on the icon which looks basically white).  You will see a thin blue line around the icon.  Go up to the Menu Bar (File Edit View etc) and click on Edit then copy.  Then go to the same icon you just copied on the Get Info window and left click then do Edit again from the Menu Bar and Paste.  You can also use the shortcuts cmmand c or command v to copy and paste.  For some magical reason coping a white icon pasted the correct preview to the icon.
Every single icon of programs that won't display icons properly will have to be fixed this way.  I was thinking about using search for file type and grinding it out like orcs or wargs in Lord of the Rings Online.  Apple this isn't a good way to make me have Determination.

  • Why pdf file icon shape changed?

Before I subscribe to Adobe ExportPDF, I tried to change pdf file to doc file without success.  As a result, all existing pdf files' icon changed to something like doc file icon.  How can I get the old pdf file icons back?  If anyone knows, please let me know.

    Hi Kjung,
    Welcome to ExportPDF!
Thank you for reaching out. I'd like to assist.
Are you referring to the icons on your desktop?
Here is a 'getting started' guide that may assist with your conversion.
My recommendation would be to start over from the beginning utilizing the information above.
Let me know if that works for you.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • Pdf file icon issue [edited by host]

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. Updated to Reader 11.0.7.79 in May 2014. Now, in Windows Explorer, the icons for folders that contain pdfs show the pdfs as black squares.  Previously existing icons still show the familiar adobe symbol within the folder icon. Why is this now happening? Thank you.

You are having a file association problem. While the following link is for the case when all icons become PDF icons, perhaps it can help:

  • Official Package Store - Package Files Icons w/Padlock, why?

    Hi, everyone.
This question is concerning x64 SQL Server 2008 R2 Std/Ent. This feature probably changed in SQL 2012.
MCT here. I had an interesting question pop up in class today. Hopefully someone can give me the answer.
I'm using the normal file-based package store:
    (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Packages\)
QUESTION: Why does the package's icon and its config file icon change to a padlocked package icon??
If I deploy anywhere else, the padlock does not appear. It will have a normal package icon.
Why is this? What does that padlock represent? Is there a shell namespace extension installed into Windows Explorer?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Davin,
It’s actually a Windows File System security issue. For a Windows folder or file, the lock icon will occur when there is only one group or user (except for SYSTEM and ServerName\Administators) who has access to the folder or file. Assuming that there
are three users/groups who have access to this folder:
    SYSTEM
    ServerName\ABC
    ServerName\Administrators
Besides, ServerName\ABC is one member of the ServerName\Administrators group. In this situation, the lock icon appears on this folder. Only if we add one or more arbitrary user or group (such as ServerName\Users, or Authenticated Users, or Network Service),
the lock will disappear. This security policy also applies to a single file, however, the behavior may not as expected for a single file or a folder that is not top level because it may inherit the permissions settings from its parent folder.
So, in your scenario, to remove the lock symbols from the .dtsx files, you can either assign permissions to another user/group on each .dtsx file, or do that on their parent folder and open the Advanced permission setting window to check the “Replace all
child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object” option.

  • Icons changing when downloading reader, why?

When I download any version of reader, all my desktop icons change to PDF icons. Running Windows 7. What's happening?

I don't know the why, but this should be useful for correcting the problem:

How can I change (or select) what is being being used when I share, as the file cover. When I Share lets say "Master File" i want to select a frame that is used as the file cover. So when its on my desktop I see this image as the file icon.

I don't think Finder does this (I've tried).
iTunes does though. Where you can set artwork or the "poster frame"...
This may not be what you want but if it helps, I know 2 ways  do this is
Open the video in QuicktimePlayer7 | View | Set Poster Frame (even then, you might need to save it as .mov (ie in a 'mov container').
Drag the file into iTunes and set the artwork (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-album-cover-art-or-images-in-itunes .html)
From there, iTunes will use that frame as the "poster frame" ie the photo/frame that shows when you browse your videos. Which is what you want, but limited to iTunes.
When I do either of these above, the frame I set does not show when exploring files in "Finder" (or in the other Explorer tool I use called "Pathfinder").
So it maybe, that exactly what you want, is not possible.

  • Indesign File Icon has changed to generic looking icon

I just upgraded to Adobe Indesign CC and now all of my file icons have turned into a white, generic-looking icon.  Can anyone tell me how to get the icon to look like the Indesign icon again?  Thanks in advance.
    David

I have a similar question.  We installed ID CS6 a few weeks ago, and when looking at files, I could determine which version of ID to open the files in by the different icons for CS4 and CS6.  Overnight, all of my icons have changed to a white box with a purple/pink square with ID in the middle, no matter which version the files were saved in.  Because we have to proofread any documents that move from CS4 to CS6 before using them (and don't have the time to do that with each document), it was very helpful to know which version to open the file in before opening it and finding that it was opened with the wrong version and having to start over again.  We are on Windows 7 PCs.  Any help you could give us would be appreciated.  We still have both versions of ID on our PCs.  Here is a screen shot that might help:

  • File Icons have changed

I just noticed that all of my pdf file icons have changed to the iTunes icon.
Would anyone have any idea why this may have happened and how to change them back?
There are no problems with opening or viewing the files - they still open in Preview - but in the Finder they show up as the iTunes icon? Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Great suggestion - thanks! It did change the icon globally - but then when I switched it back to Preview - it went back to the 'iTunes' icon.
Where can I go to change the Preview icon (which is probably want's broken)?
Preview icon is kept inside Preview application package. control-click on Preview.app and select "show package contents". go to Contents->Resources. the file is called preview.icns. However, there is no way that file got substituted by the itunes icon. Morte likely something is wrong with the Launch services database.
Try the following. delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and log out/in. if that doesn't help run the following command in terminal
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

  • After installing Acrobat/Reader on Windows 7 or Vista, icons of all applications/file-types change t

After installing Acrobat/Reader on Windows 7 or Vista, icons of all applications/file-types change to Acrobat/Reader icon and double clicking on any icon/file launches Acrobat/Reader (instead of the native application associated to the file type). Is there an easy fix for this problem?

I'm sorry, but I wasn't aware of a native PDF viewer for Windows.
Nonetheless, if you want to change your default PDF application in Windows, you need to right click on any .PDF file, select "Properties",
    then "Change",
then select the program you want to open a PDF with.

  • Change File Icons

I want to change 1000 file Icons to another "Icon image".
I understand how to change one Icon at a time :- Highlight file, Get info, Copy and Paste etc.
How do I change 1000 in one go on Mac OS 10.3.9. I do NOT want to do one at a time!.
    Thanks

    Chris CA,
"Do you want to change all of them to the same icon?" Yes please.
I have just used "Viou". It has changed multiple folder icons (family tree) for me in one go to a new single icon, however it only seems to work on folders.
I still have the problem of changing file icons. It would be great if I could change all "file" icons to a new icon in a multiple folder (family tree) leaving the folder icons the same. Is this possible?
    Are you able to help?

  • Change Ugly adobe file icon

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader (32-bit Windows 7 on HP desktop).  For some reason, I now have a different icon next to my .pdf files.
    I no longer have either:
    1.  the red icon with the curly white triangle, nor
    2.  the white icon with the the curly red triangle, the red bar on top with PDF, and Adobe at the bottom.
(Sorry, I don't seem to be able to post htese icons.)
The icon is now an ugly white rectangle, that has in the middle a tiny red version of icon 1 above.
I can find the icons 1 and 2 in a .dll file at C:\Program Files\Adobe, but I can't even find the current icon in any .exe or .dll file.
I have tried various ways to get the original icon back, but without success.  Does anyone know how to do it?
Interestingly, I did exactly the same uninstall-reinstall on my laptop (also with 32-bit Windows 7), and I now have icon 2.  What's going on?

Some further details about my attempts to change the icon.
    1.   Using Directory Opus, I can change other file icons on my system.  This  process does not change the file associations, only the icon.  I can,  for example, even download an icon from the web and change a file icon to the  downloaded icon (without changing the file association).
This  process, however, does not work with Adobe Reader 9.3.  With this  programme, everything seems to work exactly the same during the change  process, but the file icon does not change.  Even when I reboot, no  change occurs.
    2.  I went on the web and found clear instructions about how to change the file icons in Windows 7 at
    * http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/change-file-type-icon-windows-7-and-vista/
I went through their steps, as administrator, and navigated to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\UserCho ice
The (Default) reads (value not set)
I entered the following value there:
    * C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe,0
which was the same value as at the other place they mentioned:
    * HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PDFPlusReader.Document\DefaultIcon
But I can't do this.  I keep getting an error message:
    Error Editing Value
Cannot edit :  Error writing the value's new contents.
CONCLUSION:  It does seem that Adobe is somehow protecting the Registry.  Please, Adobe techies, how do I do this?
