File icon does not accompany its name; file cannot be seen-its name can be

after implementing a hard restart due to a flashing question mark, i noticed the file icon of file i was working with prior to the hard restart was not visible. Its name was the only evidence of its (flimsy) existence. i cliked on its name, and it disappeared but re-appeared later. i can move the filename to the trash but am denied depositing anything there by an error #2 (not -2!) Can you help me remove this file from computer permanently?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

WE know Disk Warrior is more reliable, hence more useful, and should be in any disk mechanics toolchest.
For the record, I don't know anything of the kind. I have yet to see evidence that Disk Warrior is useful at all.
What I do know is that you seem to take every opportunity you get to promote it in these forums. Do you work for Alsoft?
Let me be a little more explicit. My opinion is that Disk Warrior is a waste of money if one has backups. If a journaled HFS directory is so badly corrupted that it can't be repaired by Disk Utility, then the volume should be reformatted and restored from backup, which has the same effect as running DW, but is probably faster and doesn't cost $99.

Also if you don't have this option checked in the Finder Preferences you won't get an icon on the desktop when a disc is inserted.

Gmail attach file icon does not work

Is there a way to fix this problem? I tried network.http.spdy.enabled to false. No go. I tried resetting all the settings in ie, per a suggestion somewhere, no go.
Safe mode - does not work.
This problem seems to have come from no where. I can drag files into gmail, but the attach file icon does nothing.
Attach file icon works in IE, but I am trying to use Firefox.
Is there a fix or do I need a new computer?

I also have this problem. It just started today out of the blue. Whenever I hit "attach file" in gmail, I never get a "file explorer" popup. Simply nothing happens.

[Java 7] Zip file system does not handle nested zip files

The ZIP FileSystem which is shipped as an extension with Java7 does not support nested ZIP files. I.e., you can open the outer zip file as a FileSystem, but if you try to open an inner zip as a FileSystem, you get this exception:
java.nio.file.ProviderNotFoundException: Provider not found
at java.nio.file.FileSystems.newFileSystem(FileSystems.java:403)Since the ZIP FileSystem is an extension, and not a part of the core JDK, I'm posting this here (and on Xueming's blog) in the hope that it will get resolved. It doesn't seem right to report it as a JDK bug.

File Adapter does not process the same file twice

SOA: 11.1.1.4 (non-HA).
I have a file adapter that triggers when a new file gets to a directory; the file is not deleted after the process triggers.
The process is supposed to call other services via a mediator and if any remote fault happens it should rollback automatically and re-trigger with the same file at the next polling interval.
I have literally 3 scenarios:
1). The file gets picked up once, the process fails and the file is never picked up again.
Msg in log: The file : /xx/xx/xx/abc.xml is being ignored as it has already been processed
2). If the mediator only routes to one service after the file gets picked up, it works as expect (that is rollback and restart at the next polling interval). If it has more than one sequential routing rule, I see the same error as above.
3). File does not get picked up EVEN if I "touch" or rename the file.
Msg in Log:
File Adapter ProcessName Poller enqueuing file for processing :/xx/xx/xx/abc.xml
File Adapter ProcessName Ignoring File : abc.xml as it is already enqued for processing.
I have already checked, there is no permission issue.

You have to use MOVE operation, if there is any remote exception occured, then move the file to someother folder and again move back to the same folder where the file pickup will start.
In that way you will be use the same file picked up next time when the polling happens.
It is considered good etiquette to reward answerers with points (as "helpful" - 5 pts - or "correct" - 10pts).

File icon does not match application

If I use Get Info to change the application associated with any file (e.g., Word to Pages, Quicktime to VLC, Numbers to Excel), the application assigned to open the file changes just fine, but the icon remains what it was originally. I have tried changing Views, Permissions, unlocking, restarting—nothing works so far. TIA for any thoughts or suggestions.

File copy does not work with exe files

I used BufferedReader and BufferedWriter to make copy of an exe file in local drive. Nothing was strange in this code. But I wonder the newly created exe file is denied "..exe is not a valid win32 application" by Windows. I could see the bytes are copied. Is that something like header of exe file is damaged etc ??

Readers and Writers are for text. For binary data use InputStream and OutputStream.

Iphone 4 file size does not match the ACTUAL file size

My iphone 4 is reading 27 gigs of music as over 29 gigs of music. I don't understand why. Anyone else having an issue like this? My 3gs reads it as 27 gigs and so does my computer. I even set my 3gs to sync off a backup of my iphone 4 and it reads it as 2 less gigs. Why?

JNI generated header file does not match the class file

We have had a JNI project for many years and all has been fine. Within our libraries we have several classes that have inner enum classes.
Recently we have moved to JDK1.7. Up to now when JNI generated the methods where the signature used the inner enum class, and it was an oveloaded method, we would get something like the following as the signature:
Java_PackageName_ClassName_methodName_OuterClass_00024InnerEnum_2
And the class file result of the build would look like the following:
methodName(OuterClass$InnerEnum)
Since we have moved to JDK 1.7 the header file looks like the following:
Java_PackageName_ClassName_methodName_OuterClasss_InnerEnum_2
The class file is still the same, and because of that when we run the program we get an UnsatisfiedLinkError. I understand that this error is because the VM cannot find the implementation. So why JDK 1.7 generates a header file that does not match the class file?

I don't have 1.6 to verify but your statements about what is generated for 1.7 for the header appear correct.
The 000024 represents the '$' and for 1.7 the inner class is still named using '$'. So for example after compiling in 1.7 the inner class file is named the following...
MyClass$InnerEnum.class
So a one to one conversion should have kept the 000024 (presuming it does in fact do it that way in 1.6.)
You might want to look at the release notes for 1.7.
If you need a solution you could add a post javah step that renames the file.

The behavior is by design.File History doesn’t protect files encrypted by the encrypted file system (EFS).
But,files stored on a volume encrypted with BitLocker are protected.

After logging into Financal Management Desktop when a user tries to extract Metadata the Browse icon does not open the open files dialog box.I tried the following steps.
1)logged into the HFM in the citrix environment on production , opened the HFM Win 32 client connected to the application, tried to Extract the metadata clicked on the search icon, it doesn't display the windows search dialog box.
2) logged into the HFM in the citrix environment on Test , opened the HFM Win 32 client connected to the application, tried to Extract the metadata clicked on the search icon, it displays the windows search dialog box.
3) Gave the security permissions to the HFM folder as Everyone still the same issue.
4) Gave the security permissions to the HFM folder as Anonymous still the same issue.
NOTE: HFM 9.3.1.1.00 INSTALLED IN THE CITRIX ENVIRONMENT

my hp pavilion dv9700 sound icon does not work anymore and I cannot control the volume either;
another thing is that the mute icon flashed red every so often...

Hi,
Try this. Shut down the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Next, hold down the Power Button for a good 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and restart the notebook to see if this has helped the issue.

Selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type

I've been using Premiere Elements 9 for a couple of years now, and a few months ago I began having problems importing AVI files created from a BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card. (These issues were not previously occurring, and since they surfaced, I have exhausted the various settings for the BlackMagic card, used various software such as BlackMagic's own Media Express as well as the freeware VirtualDub, and still have the following problems.)
In addition, these AVI files play just fine, in their entirety, using Windows Media Player and in Quicktime.
The problem (or possibly two, but I suspect they could be related) is that most of the AVI files I attempt to import will either (1) import all video and NO audio, or (2) import ONLY a short segment of audio and video, and the length that Elements imports varies. Usually only in the range of a minute or two. The rest of the file is not imported at all.
After much digging in forums, and testing various settings in trying to figure out the issue, I decided to back up all of my files and completely wipe all hard drives and start over with a fresh installation of Windows and Premiere Elements 9. I haven't installed much else yet, as I wanted to first find out if the reinstallation improved things with Elements.
For the first project I created in Elements after the reinstallation, Elements successfully imported an entire AVI that was nearly 2 hours long, audio and video. This was a file that previously would not import properly into Elements. This suggested that my earlier installation of Elements must have been corrupted somehow. At this point I was very hopeful that all was well.
I proceeded to edit the video as I had wanted, saved the project, and exported it to an MPEG format file. I had originally wanted to export it as an MOV, but I hadn't yet installed Quicktime, so Elements couldn't do that just yet. The MPEG export was successful and plays fine.
However, I then installed Quicktime, and once it was finished, I restarted the PC and reloaded the same project. This time, Elements claimed the media was offline. I double-clicked on a segment of the video, and directed Elements to the raw file, but then an error message popped up: "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type (audio and video)." This was the same file I had JUST edited and of which I created an MPEG.
I tried creating a new project and the "Get Media" function to import the AVI again, but this time only the video imported with NO audio. (This would explain why the error message said what it did, but not why the audio wasn't imported.)
What in the world is going on with Elements??? I am baffled since the ONLY task I have done on this machine after a complete reinstallation of both Windows and Elements is edit one AVI. I find it very hard to believe that just installing Quicktime caused this.
Some info on my system:
System: Asus P6T w/ Intel i7 920 and 12 GB memory
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Video Software: Premiere Elements 9
Capture Card: BlackMagic Intensity Pro (PCI-e)
Capture Software: AVIs recorded with either BlackMagic Media Express or VirtualDub (only prior to the reinstallation, as neither of these programs are currently installed)
I'm getting to the point with Elements that I might need to just abandon it and find something else that is more reliable. Anybody have suggestions to help with this, so I won't have to migrate?

We think that we need to start off with definiting the properties of these .avi files that you are importing into Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 (assumed that you are working for the required 9.0.1 Update).
You say that the "avi" was created from a "BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card". What are the properties of this .avi that you imported into Premiere Elements? Not all .avi are created equal. What is the video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio, typical duration?
Based on the properties of the video what have you been setting as the project preset?
