File icons in exported folders

On a Mac You are used to have small thumbnailpictures ( file icons ) in the folders. When you work on a picture in photoshop and save it it has the small pictures. In Capture One You can choose to make the icons when exporting (developing). In Aperture You also get the file icons, but with LR all you get is a jpeg-symbol. I know this perhaps is a minor thing because you can se se and browse the pictures in the library. I also know it is something windows users never had. But I like to look at a folder without to open a program and get an overview. Is there somewhere in the preferences I have overlooked, or is is something that belongs to the past ?
Jan Herrstedt

The preview icons are there, but it is not SMALL PICTURES Alike those embedded in the thumbnail
You have to set the finder "View options" accordingly ...
To be clear, I don't mean the icon of the Preview.app but actual small previews of the images. And theses are not embedded thumbnails, but created by the Finder on the fly. So to answer your original question: Lightroom does not embed thumbnails in exported jpegs (I guess to keep the file size down), but the Finder does not need them to show a preview of the image as its icon.

  • Two different file icons in different folders for my php files??

    Hi,
I try to move a copy of my running website to my localhost. (MAMP+MacBook Pro)
I have problems getting to my local domain. Therefore I tried to install a clean Prestashop installation to see if that worked, which seems to work neatly.
Comparing the two website files, I noticed something strange (for me, anyway):
In the working prestashop root folder, my PHP files have a nice, black icon associated with them
In the non accessible prestashop root folder, my PHP files have a boring white filesheet like icon.
I re-associated ALL the PHP files with a text editor, but still the difference remains...
What's the cause of this?? Does this have to do with permissions or so, causing my problems with entering this local shop ??
    Thanks,
    Pascal

You can use Exportant's "Fast Cache" feature to save time when exporting the same file with different settings (a free plugin I wrote).
It's an export filter which saves a rendered copy of the file being exported in a cache, if not there already (or develop settings / metadata have changed), and pulls it from the cache when present (so Lr won't have to re-render), so it takes 1/2 the amount of time to export 2 copies, 1/3 the amount of time to export 3 copies etc.
Unfortunately, it's not compatible with all export/publish services, e.g. Export Manager & Turning Gate Publisher.
It *is* however compatible with a lot of them, like:
Adobe's Hard Drive export or publish service.
    My TreeSyncPublisher (export or publish).
Jeffrey Friedl's Folder or Collection publishing service (publish only).
If you're interested in saving your time but not your computer's, then just use Export Manager (without export filters), or a publish service (well, one publish service for each format..) - Lr will re-render, but it's one click to go..
    robcole.com - Exportant
Another option for speedy exporting of jpegs is PreviewExporter, which exports from the Lr lib preview cache - not appropriate for obtaining printable tiffs.

  • File icons not displaying in dock folders

I'm having trouble seeing File icons in the folders added to the dock in Lion. For example I am used to seeing a file icon that isa preview of the file e.g. for a pdf the icon would show the content of that pdf. For many files (but not all) I just see a black box with a white dashed line around it (see image).Eventually these icons may refresh and display properly and if I open the folder in finder the icon is correct but not in stacks. It's not a file type specific issue because in the attached image some jpegs are displaying other are not. Any advice?

    Solved.

  • "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated.

I have one big wav file of segued tracks as a mixdown and inserted CD markers where I want marked tracks. "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated. Why can't I export these marked portions as separate files?

the markers durations need to be configured, there is an easy way to do this using your existing markers.  click the start time of marker 2, this should change to edit mode to type in a new number, just copy the numbers cmd/ctrl+c. then click the end time of marker 1 and paste, cmd/ctrl+v.  now repeat for the rest of the markers, and on the last one enter a value for the end time or click and drag on the duration to manually extend it. once all the markers have a duration, the button should be active to export.

  • Aperture 3.1.2 When exporting files to Finder is creating a folder for each file, that means export 200 files is creating 200 folders for each files. Does anyone knows how to fix this. Thanks

Aperture 3.1.2 When exporting files to Finder is creating a folder for each file, that means export 200 files is creating 200 folders for each files. Does anyone knows how to fix this. Thanks

No. This is NOT true. I've been battling with this for a couple hours.
    I choose Export>Versions
    choose
    Subfolder Format: Project Name
    no custom subfolder
    Name Format: Current Version Name.
Aperture creates project folders for each image and names them Projects1, Projects2, Projects3 etc.
To be sure, I have no project named Projects
    x
This particular Aperture library has 16 projects. you can see in the screen grab it's created more than 30 folders
If I uncheck the Subfolder, that is say NONE, I just get images and images and images, not in their project folders (of course, because I've said NONE, so why would it put them in project folders?)
I just want to export the entire library and have the versions placed in folders named by the projects from which they came.... ez enough, no?

  • [SOLVED] Can't get rid of a wine-polluted text file icon [KDE]

    Hello folks,
For some reason, my KDE system likes to use a Wine program based icon for all text files when I'm using a Faenza theme. The problem occurs only for my user (not root) so I think this is an user-specific issue.
I've already checked .local/share/icons folder for matching icon images. I found one which was named "text-plain.png", being equally the same "W-space" icon image as shown in the picture below. Thus I removed this png file from all necessary subfolders (22, 24, 32, 48...), so as far as I can think, there should not be any traces for the old icon image left. I've already re-checked all folders which I think are relevant to the issue. In addition, I've updated icon cache by using gtk-update-icon-cache and kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental commands. However, the system seems to disagree with me and the annoying icon appears still in text file icons.
The problem appears practically like in the following picture:
W-space icon image is very likely related to Adobe Photoshop which I've installed on my PlayonLinux installation (.PlayonLinux/wineprefix/photoshop). I still don't understand by which logic the system decides to use this W-space image for text files.
I wonder if I need to take further steps to get rid of this annoying icon. Am I missing something? All I want is that KDE would use basic Faenza icon for text files. Any hints are welcome!
    Thank you!

Allright, this was, after all, a very simple issue. As expected.
I simply removed file /var/tmp/kdecache-fincer/icon-cache.kcache, rebooted the system and all icons are fine now.
    Topic marked as solved.

  • File Name Shortenings in Folders (Finder)

My question is if you can change the format of how shortened file names appear in folders.
The default is showing the beginning and ending of a file name:
"summer vacation photos" -> "summ...otos" (of course depending on how large the file icon is or how wide the column is)
I want to know if it is possible to change the settings to just show the beginning of the file name (the Windows default I guess):
"summer vacation photos" -> "summer vac..."
I just want to know because I find the Mac default to be difficult to read and to figure out what the file names are.

Use list view and expand the name column to display the entire name. Alternatively, use shorter names. As for changing how it's displayed, there's no built-in way to do it the way you want to.

  • Windows 7 File Icons

I am very frustrated because I upgraded to CC from CS6 and now my file icons are missing AGAIN. I had this problem when I upgraded to InDesign CS6 and it consumed a significant amount of time to get the correct icons to appear (I believe I may have had to uninstall, download and reinstall the software). I know it doesn't impact functionality but it looks unattractive and it's BROKEN. I have seen a lot of people mention having this problem, especially with CS6, I can't believe an upgrade came out with the same broken functionality. It blows my mind. I really want my icons to appear as they were intended.
Is there an easy fix for this? My internet is too slow to reinstall.
As you can see, the indesign and photoshop icons are both missing... the illustrator icon is the only one appearing correctly. All programs were upgraded the same way, at the same time - through the adobe creative cloud desktop app (the icon on the bottom left, not sure how people refer to that program/app).
    please help
    thanks in advance.

This happened to me, too, after I had set files to open on default with the 64-bit versions of InDesign, Photoshop, etc... I got these ugly white icons with the corresponding program icon in the middle--I hated them, they looked horrendous. I tried reinstalling the programs and deleting the icon cache file, multiple times, and none of it worked.
After weeks of searching for a fix, however, I think I finally got one that works!
    Run regedit through CMD+R
Back up your registry, just in case this doesn't work or something goes wrong (File > Export...)
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts \ .file_extension
replace .file_extenstion with whatever file type is having a icon issue, i.e.: .indd for InDesign, .psd for PhotoShop, etc...
Under the file extension there should be a key/folder named UserChoice, delete it--this is your culprit!
Repeat steps 3-4 with each file extension that has an icon issue
    Refresh your icons by:
    restarting your computer, or
    force refreshing your icons:
Start > Default Program > Set your default programs
Select your web browser, email client or any other item in the list
Click Set this program as default
    Click OK
I hope this works for you! Good luck!

  • File Icons Not Appearing in Finder

Over the years I have archived projects on CDs and DVDs. I have always worked on Macs. No PC involvement. I have been doing this since 1987. Over the past couple weeks I have noticed that the icons of files (not folders) on my older disks are not appearing. I am using the latest Mac OS 10.8.3 on a MacBook Pro. However, on a friend's older Mac Pro tower (Intel), running an older OS (10.6.8), the file icons do appear. Also, it seems that all folder icons do appear on both systems. I have searched the Internet for an answer. I have a lot of old files that I currently cannot seem to access because of this issue. Can anyone shed any light on this? I think it may be an OS issue.

    Hi,
I was under the impression that the Disk Level info was the bit that had the problem.
I am not sure why I ended up with that thought as you clearly state it is contents type info such as tiffs and the like you cannot "see" for long.
The Site did help with that.
I dug out a old Mag CD with a game on in.
I do not suffer losing sight of any of the files no matter which view I adopt.
It lists the Mac OS Standard as the format and the Roman encoding your Video and pics show.
(Strangely it says it was Modified  and the date is before the listed Modified dates of the files and folder it contains).
I don't have any self created disks from that time to test.
I am at a loss myself now.
Sometimes, as in my Pic, the Applications that were written for OS 9 (Classic era) and earlier have the no entry sign over them.
Other times the items will show a generic file icon as it has "lost" which app it belongs to.  (Which the PRAM reset deals with)
Your files clearly show the icons of the apps that would normally open them.
Files or folders that are normally hidden don't get counted in Quick Look or other forms of veiwing the contents, such as the lower bar in my pic.
It would appear the OS is reading the Disk properly but  then deciding that it is not going to display all of it.
I tried viewing the files on my drive if different views - iCon and Cover Flow for certain - but did not notice any difference in what was presented.
If you have the Disk Open and in the Finder > View Menu > Show View Options and then choose Show Icon Preview do you get to see the tiff files at all ?
I would also try the Size change in the Cover Flow view just to see if it is something about the icon data that is "missing" or being mis-read.
I am clutching at straws at this point.

It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty.  You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod.  If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

  • File icons missing in File Panel

Hi there, I have a brand new installation (demo) of Dreamweaver CS6 on a Mac and in the file panel the icons for files are not there. The icons for folders are there but where there should be an icon for a file there is empty white space. This is frustrating because it makes it harder to view the file list and work with the files.
I tried to uninstall Dreamweaver, removed the preference files and reinstall but that did nothing at all.
How can I get the file icons to show?

This is a known issue related to OSX and should be fixed with the 10.7.4 update.

  • Folder/ file icons are different sizes from one window to another!

    Hi there
I am having an extremely annoying problem where all my folders and files (in icon view) are totally different sizes from each other from one window to another. For example, I might click on a folder that's icon is small sized (64x64), but when that folder opens up, the icons of the subfolders inside are huge (276x276) and need to instantly be resized and re-arranged. Then if i continue to open one of these subfolders, the file icons inside it are now medium sized (96x96). Each new folder that I go into on my hard drive will be differently sized and I end up spending ages resizing and re-arranging them before I can do my work. This problem never happened in Leopard and Im despairing of what to do.
Is there a way of setting a default icon size and spacing that can then be applied to every folder and file on the hard drive? I have used the 'Use as defaults' option on the 'View options' window but this doesn't apply it to anywhere else besides the current window you are on.
Surely, Im doing something wrong as Apple could never have overlooked such an obvious problem like this?
    Can anyone advise?
    Many thanks
    Dan

The Finder will (theoretically) remember the view settings for each individual folder that you visit. If you have not opened a particular folder before, you should get the default view settings, but once you have changed the view then that is what you will get on subsequent visits. You can erase the previous settings by deleting the (normally invisible) .DS_Store file that is created in a folder when it is opened, but this file can contain other Finder metadata.

  • Files, icons, docs won't open with double click

Suddenly when I double click, nothing happens. I have to use keyboard commands to open files, icons, docs, folders, etc. Did I inadvertantly set something? I have a Mighty Mouse and this was never a problem before. Thanks
    Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Try cleaning your mouse:
Use a clean lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Wipe the ball and the surrounding area, making sure to rotate the ball itself to ensure complete coverage. If the scrolling feels rough or if the scroll ball isn't scrolling up, down, or side-to-side, hold the mouse upside-down and roll the ball vigorously while cleaning it to help dislodge any particles that may have collected on the internal hardware. You can also give it a good (but not too god) whack to dislodge stubborn particles.
Let us know if that helps,
    Miriam
