File Info behavior changed?

In CS3, when I wanted to add keywords or copy them to enter into another file's keywords, I could copy and paste. In CS4 I am not able to do that and have to enter keywords by hand. Is there a preference I have missed that would change this behavior?
Thanks for any ideas about this.
Steve Gingold

I tried this using Bridge CS4, I can copy keywords from FileInfo dialog to Windows Vista's clipping board, I can also paste some text from Windows Vista's clipping board into keywords field of FileInfo dialog.
1. could you please try windows system copy/paste works using other applications?
2. could you please try copy/paste in other edit field which is not in FileInfo dialog. such as, some exit box in metadata panel, see if copy/paste works?
3. is there any collision in shortcut key? ctrl+c / ctrl+v .

  • How to create a custom panel in the right way (without having an empty panel in the file info) ?

    Hi Everyone
    My name is Daté.
I'm working in the fashion industry as a designer and Design consultant to help fashion brands improving the design workflow by using Adobe softwares and especially Illustrator.
I'm not a developper, but i'm very interested about the possibility to introduce xmp technology to provide more DAM workflows in the fashion industry.
Fashion designers produce a lot of graphical objects in illustrator or Photoshop. Unfortunately they are faced to a big challenge which is about how to manage, search, classify and get this files faster. Of course PDM system or PLM system are used in the Fashion industry to manage data, but for many companies, implemanting this kind of database is very complex.
When i look at what you can do with xmp, it seems to be an interesting way of managing design files, then i started to follow Adobe instruction to try to build a custom panel.
The main idea is to (Theory) :
create custom panels used by fashion designers to classify their design files.
Use Adobe Bridge to search files, create smart collection to make basic reports in pdf and slideshows
Find someone to make a script able to export metadata in xml files
Use indesign and the xml file to generate automatically catalogues or technical sheets based on xmp values
I have created a custom panel by using the generic panel provided by Adobe and i have modified the fields to feet with the terms used in the fashion industry and it works well.
But unfortunately, when i try to create my own custom panel from scratch with Flashbuilder (4.6) and the Adobe CSExtensionBuilder_2 (Trial version), it doesn't work!
    Here is the process :
    I have installed flashbuilder 4.6
I have download the XMP Fileinfo SDK 5.1 and placed the com.adobe.xmp.sdk.fileinfo_fb4_1.1.0.jar in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\eclipse\plugins
In Flashbuilder, i have created a new project and select xmp Custom panel
The new project is created in flashbuilder with a field with A BASIC Description Field
To generate the panel, right click the project folder and select xmp / Publish Custom Panel
The panel is automatically generated in the following folder : C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\custom file info panels\3.0\panels
Go to illustrator, Open the file Info
    The panel appears empty
The others panel are also empty
The panel is created and automatically placed in the right folder, but when you open it in Illustrator by selecting the File Info option in the File Menu, this custom panel appears empty!!! (only the title of the tab is displayed). This panel also prevent the other panels to be displayed.
When you delete this custom panels from the folder C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\custom file info panels\3.0\panels and go back to the File Info, the other panels display their content properly.
I also try to use the plugin XMP Namespace designer to create my own namespace. this plugin is also able to generate a custom panel, but this one also appears empty in AI or Photoshop.
I try to follow the process described in Adobe xmp documentation many times, but it didn't works.
It seems that many peaople have this issue, but i dodn't find a solution in the forum.
I try to create a trust file (cfg), but it didn't work.
It would be so kind if you can help me to understand why i can't create a custom panel normally and how to do it in the right way.
Thanks a lot for your help,
    Best regards,
    Daté

    Hi Sunil,
After many trial, i realize the problem was not coming from the trust file, but from the way i have created the custom panel.
There is 2 different ways, the first described below is not working whereas the second is fine :
    METHOD 1 :
    I have downloaded the XMP-Fileinfo-SDK-CS6
In the XMP-Fileinfo-SDK-CS6 folder, i copied the com.adobe.xmp.sdk.fileinfo_fb4x_1.2.0.jar plugin from the Tools folder and i pasted it in the plugind folder of Flashbuilder 4.6
The plugin install an XMP project
In Flashbuilder 4.6 i have created a new project (File / New /Project /XMP/XMP Custom Panel)
A new xmp project is created in flashbuilder.
You can publish this project by right clicking the root folder and selecting XMP / Publish Custom Panel
The custom file info panel is automatically published in the right location which is on Mac : /Users/UserName/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/3.0 or /Users/UserName/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/4.0
Despite the publication of the custom file info panel and the creation of a trust file in the following location : "/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/FlashPlayerTrust", the panel is blank in Illustrator.
I try this way several times, with no good results.
    METHOD 2 :
I have installed Adobe CSExtensionBuilder 2.1 in Flash Builder
In FlashBuilder i have created a new project (File / New /Project /Adobe Creative Suite Extension Builder/XMP Fileinfo Panel Project)
As the system display a warning about the version of the sdk to use to create correctly a custom file info, I changed the sdk to sdk3.5A
The warning message is : "XMP FileInfo Panel Projects must be built with Flex 3.3, 3.4 or 3.5 SDK. Building with Flex 4.6.0 SDK may result in runtime errors"
When i publish this File info panel project (right click the root folder and select Run as / Adobe illustrator), the panel is published correctly.
The last step is to create the trust file to display the fields in the panel and everything is working fine in Illustrator.
The second method seems to be the right way.
For sure something is missing in the first method, and i don't understand the difference between the XMP Custom Panel Project and the XMP Fileinfo Panel Project. Maybe you can explain it to me.
So what is the best solution ? the right sdk to use acording to the creative suite (the system asks to use 3.3 or 3.5 sdk for custom panels, so why ?)
I'm agree with Pedro, a step by step tutorial about this will help a lot of peaople, because it's not so easy to understand!!!
Sunil, as you belong to the staff team, can you tell me if there is  :
A plugin or a software capable to extract the XMP from llustrator files to generate XML workflows in Indesign to create catalogues
A plugin to allow indesign to get custom XMP in live caption
A plugin to allow Bridge to get custom XMP in the Outputmode to make pdf or web galeries from a smart collection
How can you print the XMP data with the thumbnail of the file ?
Thanks a lot for your reply.
    Best Regards
    Daté

  • File info greyed out & peculiar finder behavior.

A while ago I went into Terminal to 'show hidden files' in order to show '...And God Created Woman.mpg' which disappeared (because of the leading dots), I didn't mind the invisible files at first but when I tried to drag and drop copy my Music folder to back it up it copied maybe 20% before saying 'Cannot replace .Dstore' or something like that and wouldn't finish the copy. I tried the reverse of what the article on showing hidden files said thinking maybe that was the problem but no matter how I tried I couldn't get the hidden files to hide again. Now I'm having trouble moving files to an external drive at all, it tells me I need to authenticate but doesn't give me that option, and all the file info is half greyed and my library is completely greyed. I'm thinking I screwed something up in Terminal but not sure what. Also, there isn't a recent enough backup of the system to simply restore. Here's a screenshot:

I tend to use Terminal to handle invisible files & folders, so I don't use this option generally.
The same behavior in every user suggests the preference is either system wide or you may have set a flag on the HD? Do you use Xcode?
What happens if you check the 'global' domain…
    defaults read -g com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles
    defaults read -g com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles
These don't exist for me. You can write the to default the same way as before, but it needs the '-g' flag
Does your Terminal history still have the old commands? Enter this in Terminal & hit return…
    history
then search (via cmd+f) for the 'defaults' commands etc. You may have done a different ommand around the same time.
I'll try to see what otherways the visibility can be set.

I am trying to access a Pages document in a file sharing arrangement, but Pages won't allow me to access it.  I checked permissions and need to add permissions, but the Show File Info window closes before I can do anything to change permissions.

    J,
Not to dodge the issue, but you are having an OS problem, not a Pages problem. If nobody comes along here with an explanation, you might do well to post in the Snow Leopard discussion area, assuming your profile is correct.

  • Photoshop changes file info xmp metadata - unknown to public domain?

Curious if anyone has feedback or solution for the following:
My PSD file's metadata enters photoshop with "unknown" as the copyright status, and then after I save it in a new format or with a new name
, I notice that in Bridge the copyright status shows up incorrectly as "public domain." This is incorrent and should not change on
its own. I've been using Photoshop with Bridge for many years, and have never seen this...

I have a script that the user runs to input xmp data into a Customized version of the generic file info panel. it is data that is gathered from the user when the psd file is created. once the file is open in photoshop. the information is visible in the File info panel , the raw data, and as a schema addition in the advanced tab.
in CC the nodes and the children of the XMP packet have changed positions. so that the XML -this.XMP.child(0).appendChild(this.createNode())
is no longer the node that can be appended.
Where XML.child(0).elements().length(); would enable the xmlns to be added in CS6
    <rdf:Description xmlns:phsa="' + this.namespace + '" xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" rdf:about="" />'
it is visible in CC as namespace in a different arrangement. XML.child(0).child(0).namespaceDeclarations().toString()) and the children are  XML.child(0).child(0).elements().length().toString()); There are now 7 child nodes where before there were 1.
with all shifted, the initialize of the values and the delete XMP packet wrapper and create new or the amend to the XMP packet wrapper is undefined.

  • Change file info while accessing your library remotely

So, my library is on my Mac Mini in my office, and I'm accessing it with the share feature from my laptop out in the living room. Is there any way to allow users sharing your library from a remote computer to update file info? Right now I am able to access it, but not make changes.

  • Maddening File Info Description field behavior

After switching to CS3 for Mac, on a new MacBook running 10.4.11, I have been experiencing a maddening phenomenon when captioning photos.
When I write a caption for a photo that contains very similar information to a previous photo, when in the "Description" field of "File Info," I like to click on the triangle next to the field and import the information, thus saving many key strokes.
But in CS3, unlike CS, whenever there is a comma in the caption, it stops copying the information at the placement of the comma. So, in one of my typical run-on sentences, I have to import and paste several times if there is a comma anywhere in the sentence. That last sentence, for example, would have needed to be imported to the description field in three chunks.
Has anyone else encountered this? Is this a bug or a feature?
    Help, please!

It is a known bug from CS2, but apparently ignored while developing CS3. However using Bridge you can select multiple files and using the metadata panel easily add metadata to all and select some or one to add additional data to the file info or other fields. :-)

  • Lion finder window not displaying file info

I have a MacPro which I've updated to Lion. I have four hard drives installed. When I open a finder window from three of the drives, I get the expected (from Snow Leopard) behavior: in icon view, images display pixel dimensions,  movies or audio files display run time. This is assuming I have Show Item Info clicked in the View Options. But if I open a finder window on my start-up drive the file info is not displayed. If I open the View Info panel and click/unclick the Show Item Info ckeck box, I can see space expand or contract beneath the file, but no info is displayed. Is this a bug or a "feature"?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Repeat "File Info" data?

    Hi folks,
This is probably a dumb question, so please bear with me.
I recorded a recent rehearsal session as a single audio file, and now want to split it up into discrete tracks.  No problems with all that, but I want each of the files to have certain repetitive information in the RIFF data -- notes on the rehearsal session, its date, that sort of thing -- and then some smaller amount of track-specific information that will change from file to file.
Is there any way to have this repeating information show up automatically in the "File Info" dialogue when I create a new audio file?
I tried filling it in and saving the complete master session as a working file with that info, but when I cut data from the working copy, create a new file and paste it in to create the new track, that Info data isn't carried across like i had hoped.  I can't find any way to specify the info in Preferences or set up a template ... is there another way to achieve what I'm trying to do?

I believe you'll see your expected behavior when using the "Save Selection As..." option, rather than pasting the selection into a new, empty file.  The Copy command in this case is only copying the waveform data - the metadata is attached to the file, not the data.  When saving a selection FROM a file, though, generally the metadata is copied as well since the source contains that information.

  • CS5 Generic File Info Memory Problem

We have been using a  very large custom generic panel in CS4 File Info.  The MRU file has  grown to 2.5 mb, the properties are 1.5 mb -- but they have been working  great in CS4.  In CS5 they frequently do not work .   The panel will either be empty when  you open it, although there are xmp values in file, or after entering data, the panel will spin for a while, show empty again, often after trying to process the MRU's.
Are panels  in CS5 products OK to be used for this large of a  metadata set of attributes and values?
Using latest Macs, 4GB of ram, happens in all CS5 apps.
    Thanks for your  help.
    Todd

    Todd,
I understand your requirement. Controlled vocabularies can be a
critical component of a metadata strategy.
I know people that use a semicolon delimited file to pre-load the CS3
File Info MRU of a bag or seq field via a single copy and paste. Its
limit appears to be fifteen entries. Like you they are simulating a
    controlled vocabulary for a list.
Pound Hill's MetaGrove Plug-in provides controlled vocabularies for
lists (bag and seq). These are displayed as a table of one column,
popup at the top, open or closed choice.
The largest single (internal) MetaGrove vocabulary I have implemented
has 4004 entries in one language, 1 mb in size. PHS's format is more
verbose than Adobe's MRU or File Info panel formats. It takes 20
    seconds to initialize.
MetaGrove vocabularies can optionally be external text files, with tab
delimited value/label pairs, local or on the network. These are single
language, by definition. This is intended for an enterprise where the
external vocabulary file is typically updated monthly or quarterly.
The plug-in will automatically cache the update within a week
(default). The vocabulary can be maintained using a spreadsheet or
output from an application like yours.
Regarding your test with repeated red, green blue, for 100,000 entries:
In File Info v0 and v1 (CS through CS3), "All names and keyphrases
(values) in the list must be unique." This constraint is not mentioned
in the v2/3 File Info document. Does repeated red, green blue work
    with 9 entries or so?
Most CS3 applications have odd behaviors with more than 99 entries in
a File Info popup. This appears to be fixed in Acrobat 10. I haven't
attempted more than 200 entries in a CS3 panel popup.
I suspect that building a in-memory copy of a vocabulary from a panel
file, or from the MRU file, is a serial process and does not scale
linearly. Each incremental entry takes longer to add to the in-memory
representation because the entire in-memory copy must be scanned each
time. The design goals of tens to entries probably did not warrant
using database techniques for the internal representation. The
performance in CS4 is your benchmark.
CS4 and 5 File Info appears to be doing some central caching.
Sometimes, I need to remove the panel entirely, Exit all File Info
applications, run an application and its File Info, Exit and then add
the panel in again to get changes to take. You probably need to get
everyone-out-of-the-pool before you touch the MRU file.
The CS3 copy and paste technique mentioned above might be an
alternative to let FIle Info manage the MRU. However, in your case, it
will test the implementation limits of the menu field payload capacity.

  • Detection Method of Date Modified fails due to copied files date modified change

I've been working through an issue for some time now and I think it's a bug with SCCM 2012 SP1. I've built literally 50 deployments in "Application Management" in SCCM 2012, but I've been chasing my tail on a few of them throwing the
"succeeded but couldn't detect" error. The few that have given me problems are all copying text files and then detect the modified date to verify that the file is there. All worked when I initially built them in Windows 8 but are now failing
randomly...even on a machine where they previously worked and I deleted the files to test the deployment again.
    What I'm doing:
My java deployment requires policies which we control with the Deployment.config, deployment.properties and java.policy files. A simple script creates the directories and copies the files. I then create a deployment type for this "ConfigFileCopy.cmd"
and create a detection rule for each file that I am moving over. The detection rule looks for a "date modified" date between the beginning and end of the date for the day I modified the file. This allows me to modify the files to change our
java policies and then redeploy them with the "new" modified date as the detection rule, which forces the update.
    The problem:
When I first created my deployment, everything worked pretty well. The files copy out and the script runs successfully. There were some minor tweaks I need to make to my scripts, so I did and then updated the content for the deployment type. I believe this
is where things go a little wonky. At this point, my deployment starts failing with the "0x87D00324" error.
Looking through the logs, everything looks good. The reason configuration manager is failing on detecting the modified date for those files, as it turns out, is because the modified dates don't meet the criteria. So that part is properly failing the detection.
The problem is that the modified dates are correct on the server but not the client. Looking in c:\windows\ccmcache, I can see multiple folders....presumably one for each version of the application that I updated. Looking at any of the newer content folders
for this app, the modified dates are the date and time the file was copied out to the workstation, which is incorrect as the file hasn't been modified during that process.
The odd part, is that this doesn't happen EVERY time on EVERY machine. My primary desktop is windows 8.1 and received the files correctly and installed without issue. My test win 8.1 laptop initially received them correctly, but then as I refined the scripts
it began picking up the wrong modified dates and started failing.
I found a similar issue to this existed in SCCM 2007 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2276865) so I suspect that this is truly just a bug that hasn't been addressed (or maybe is fixed in R2). Unfortunately
we have business reasons we can't upgrade to R2 at this time so I'm hoping someone has experienced this and has some sort of work around that might get me by for now. If someone can confirm it is fixed in R2, that would help my case to upgrade as well.
I can work around the issue by changing my logic to detect any date greater than a specific date. But I shouldn't have to do that and I'm concerned there are scenarios I haven't thought of that will cause unexpected behavior or failures with that.

This outlines the behavior. It's apparently by design.
"SCCM has a habit of changing the ‘Date Modified’ timestamp of all files it delivers when it detects an ‘upgrade’ of the source files for that application. It typically does not touch the timestamp
of the source files if it delivers a brand new install to a client that has never received the software, however if a single file in the source folder is changed for that application, then SCCM tries to use a previous version of the application in the cache
(C:\windows\ccmcache) and only downloads the new file that has change. This results in all files having their ‘Data Modified’ timestamp changing (except for the brand new file). Therefore determining if that application has delivered
successfully using ‘Date Modified’ timestamps is not recommended. The key to seeing this process in action is looking at the file properties in the
C:\windows\ccmcache\<sccm code> folder for that application, particularly before and after a file is updated in the original source SCCM application folder."
