File is not a valid freehand document

Hi
I need help! I am a Freehand 9 user using Window 200, 256MB
Ram. At times i have a problem of not being able to open the
freehand file that i save. The error code is "Could not convert the
document because the file is not a valid freehand document ".
I have tried using Freehand MX to open but the same error
code appear too.
Was the file corrupted ? How can i prevent this thing again?
Cheers
Bwlim

In Windows I believe you have to have the 3 letter extension
on the end for it to be recognized?
For Freehand 9 that would be .fh9
Other than that, the document may be corrupt.

  • Old fh7 files not valid Freehand documents

Does anyone know why some of my old FH7 files cannot open in either of versions 7, 9 or 11?
The error message tells me that they are not valid Freehand documents.
I already have at least a dozen of these, with potentially dozens more.
As i have no idea whats contained in these, I can't even re-create if necessary.

    Sorry Judy,
No luck I'm afraid. I've tried opening these old files in a trial
    version of the new Illustrator
but to no avail. I think you're right when you say they may have been
saved to a bad disk at some stage.
I know our storage systems have changed a few times over the years since
    these files were last accessed.
I will try seeing how far our backup tapes go back before finally giving
    up I think.
    thanks for your suggestions though.

  • "...not a valid Photoshop document" error when opening Mac cc file on PC

I get a "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." error message whenever I try to open up a PSD file created on a Mac using Photoshop CC on my PC using CC. Other people have been able to open the file from the same location, so the files aren't corrupted. Anyone know how to fix this?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to share my experience and solution in case anyone else runs into this.
The other day, I spent many hours editing some photos for a client. I saved them all and closed Photoshop. When I tried to open the .PSDs, they all came up with this "Not a valid Photoshop document" error. I was freaking out. I could see the thunmbnails and previews with the MacOS Finder and could see the images just fine in Lightroom, but couldn't open them in Photoshop CC.
Finally, I remembered that these were NOT supposed to be .psd files! They were supposed to be TIFFs. What happened was, when I edited them from within Lightroom into Photoshop, they opened as TIFFs. However, when I did "save as", I wanted to name them similarly to some other files I had. I clicked on one of the existing files to copy the file name in the Save As dialog to make it easier to name the new file I was saving, but I didn't realize it was changing the file extention from ".tif" to ".psd" as well. The older MacOS (version 9 and earlier) didn't rely on file extensions fo identifying file types, so it didn't hit me right away that this would be the problem. When I changed the incorrect .psd file extension to .tiff, the files opened in Photoshop just fine.
SO... if you run into this "Not a valid Photoshop document" error, try figuring out if it's actually another file type (.jpg, .tif, .png, etc) by either getting the file info from another program or just experimenting with different file extensions. Chances are good that your file isn't actually corrupt, but just named improperly!

  • Adobe photoshop CS6.Receiving the error "could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document? Tried renaming the files and had working psd files and now all psd files will not open and getting the error listed. Anyone help please?

Could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document. Tried renaming the file extensions and still no luck.

  • "This is not a valid Portable Document File" When launching Nik and OnOne plugins.

    Hi Reggie,
I only have my 10.5.8 sysytem available at the moment, but will check this tomorrow on my 10.6.4 w/SL Graphics Update. With what plug-ins and versions are you seeing this happen? I know current OnOne plug-ins use the GPU for displaying it's dialog. Have you checked Nik/OnOne forums for similar problems yet?

  • When trying to open documents, getting error as File is not a valid Win32 application

    Hi,
I am trying to open a MPP by clicking on the name of the file. But I am getting the error as "path\filename.mpp is not a valid Wind32 application".
I am able to save the document and open it in MPP, but clicking on the document name is giving this error "File is not a valid Win32 application".
I have tried to repair "Microsoft Project". But still the same issue. I am using Office 2010. SharePoint site is SP 2010.
    How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi Ed,
I am sorry, but I could not understand that answer.
I have put that answer in the below quotes:
"You are never going to believe what I did. This is a nice ending to a very confusing situation. lol
I uninstalled Project 2007 and rebooted my laptop and reinstalled Project 2007. No Difference at all. Same thing happened. I just couldn't stop thinking about how 2007 Microsoft Office Component kept showing up in default programs. This has bugged me for days.
I went browsing in my program files. I typed in Microsoft Office Project. The only thing I found was WINPROJ. I decided to check it out. I checked it's properties, size, location, etc.. What did I have to lose at this point? I clicked on it and it went into
my default programs as Microsoft Office Project 2007. This doesn't make any sense to me. But, don't try to fix anything else if it isn't broken, right? It's working and I am so relieved. I mean, YAAAAY!!! Another mystery solved...
Thanks for hanging in there with me to help solve this mystery. You have been of great assistance to me. You made me think outside the box and it worked.
    Laura"
Does it mean MPP Should be a 2007 version?
    Thanks

  • Not a valid freehand file - Help!

Hi, Can anyone please help me?
I was working on my portfolio in freehand 9 after importing
some new images. I clicked though some pages to view it all when it
became really slow. I decided to save the file and quit. When I
tried to open the file again an error came up saying 'it's not a
    valid freehand file'
If anyone can help me it will save me a couple of weeks work.
    Thanks
    Tiny

This is a work stopper. It happens. No chance you have a back
up file still? Once the FH file is corrupted, there is no getting
back into it. I have experienced this several times over the years.
Once or twice was able to open the FH file on a different machine
    in Illustrator, but not always.
If anyone else has won this battle- let us know how.

  • Error message 'not a valid PDF document'

    Hi folks,
my Z10 has trouble opening some PDF documents sent as email attachment. When I try to open them the error message appears:
    Important message
The document cannot be opened because it is not a valid PDF document
There is no BES10 Service involved in my environment. Mails are synced with with active sync.
    OS Version: 10.2.0.429
    Any suggestion appreciated.
    Best regards,

Stuffit is the only app I know of which can decompress its own format. Your Windows clients must use the free Expander to open them. Otherwise, use OS X's built in zip compression and they'll be able to open the files without the need of third party software. Right click on any item, or group of items and choose, "Compress xxx Items" (how it will read if more than one item is chosen).

Saving a Photoshop CC project from a Mac (in .PSD format) to a thumb drive and trying to transfer it to a Dell laptop with Photoshop CS6.  Will not open...Error message: could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document.

The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...

  • PSE 9.0 error: ".....not a valid photoshop document"

Platform is XP Pro...camera is Canon compact digital.
I downloaded photos to desktop folder. PSE allowed me to open the first 3 photos from the folder to edit, then I got the above error message.
However, when I right click on the photo in the desktopp folder to "open with Photoshop Elements" the PSE 9.0 editor opened all the photos.

  • Not a valid Photoshop document (urgent help needed))

I am using Photoshop CS5. Suddenly I am not able to open any of my .psd documents. I get a box that tells me "This is not a valid Phoroshop document." I don't know what has happened.
Is my application corrupt? Should I reinstall it?
Is the problem with the preferences file? Should I delete it? If so, how do I do that?
I am a web designer and now I cannot access my files and work on them. This is a really desperate situation!! I appreciate any insights someone can give me!
    Thank you.

Thank you for your response. I did find the keyboard shortcut and that was so easy. Why can't Adobe tell that? By the way, I am ready to give up on my Mac. I have 10 library folders and every day a new one pops up - I have no idea where all this stuff comes from to cause my computer to be so unorganized and the folks at my user group don't seem to understand why I am so frustrated. I am ready to buy a new PC. And none of these library folders have a preference file for Photoshop.
Well, that is all I have for this discussion and thank you for letting me vent (as if you even wanted me to!).

  • 'not a valid photoshop document' when I try and overlay an image on photoshop.. help!!!

I downloaded jpeg files from google drive. As far as I know they are not corrupted and when I used them on the newest version of photoshop they worked. What I am trying to do is place images next to one another. Everytime I try and do this a notice comes up saying 'it is not a valid photoshop document'. I have tried changing the jpg to photoshop format pdf and also opening them as photoshop files - I dont know what else I can do and my photography deadline is tomorrow for my final edits!
    PLEASE HELP

Without having access to the file that you are working with I would not know how to help. There can be many factors involved that are giving you grief. Are you on PC or Mac? There are many here that are more savvy with the nuances and problematic issues with Ps than I. If you wish to send me one of the files I can give it a try on my setup and see what happens- [email protected]

  • "Error: Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." How can I fix this on a mac?

I was working on a project and I closed it after saving and closed photoshop. Then later when I came to make another adjustment to my PSD I opened the file and it said "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." How can I fix this? I didn't shut off my mac while saving it. Someone please help

Okay, I just talked to the person that originated the document.
When this usually happens to me, it's because I've done something stupid like saved a .jpeg as a .psd. So that's what I tried. I tried a few other extensions as well, so I thought that it was not an extension problem. Well, the originator told me it had originally been a TIFF, which was the ONE FILE EXTENSION I DIDN'T TRY. :\
Anyway, that fixed it. Usually this error indicates either a corrupt file or the wrong extension, just in case anyone ever digs this convo up later.
