File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop.

I have seen several other posts with this same issue but have not been able to find/see any resolution. I am trying to open a .psd file and receive the error:
In case the image above does not display "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
Of course, this file is an "Approved Design" for a client and will take days to rebuild. All of the other files I worked on during the same time period are just fine.
I have tried:
     Deleting Preferences
     Clearing Preferences
Setting to "Ignored EXIF profile tag"
My System Specs:
Intel XEON E345 @ 2.33GHz (Dual)
12.0 GB RAM
64-bit Windows 7
Photoshop is set to use 7780 MB for RAM (71%)
I have 4 disks assigned for scratch disk access and my OS drive is not the primary scratch drive, total of close to 500GB space for scratch.
PLEASE, please, please help!! I hope there is a way to repair/get this file open....

Generally speaking, Photoshop is not known to destroy files.  The problem, as implied above, is more likely a basic problem with your computer.
You can check your Windows event logs to see if you find disk errors.

  • Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop

    Hello,
I'm a beginner in PS. I was edit TIFF file in PS. Size of file is 21x89.1(22.6 MB). Then suddenly power - cuted. But after 5 min turn on PC and PS can't open my TIFF file.
Error is (could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop)
What should I do, how I open this TIFF file? I realy need to open this file?
    Please help me...
    Regards, Suvd.S

Out of curiosity, were you actually saving the file at the moment the power cut off, or had you just saved it?
If not, I don't understand the reason the file should have become corrupted.  If it was successfully saved on disk from the prior save operation, just shutting off the power on Photoshop would lose your current edits, but the file should still be intact.

  • How do I resolve: "Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error message?

Photoshop document created in current version of PSCC2014, now will not crop, resize, etc without throwing compatibility error.
"Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
How do I resolve without recreating the file?

    Ooops.  Hit save reply prematurely.
You may be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG preview of your file in Adobe Illustrator, GraphicConverter (Mac only) or some such application, but your layers will be gone.
The problem of working across a network is that it's not supported by Adobe:

Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.

  • Error message: File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop

When I try and reopen a psd file I have created, I get the message "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"
Used to get this on occasional files using CS2, have now started getting it on CS3 files. The only way to get round it is to redo the work!
Am using Photoshop CS3, V.10 on a G5, OSX 10.4.11. Which is connected to a PC network.

Ran into the same message on files created by one of our designers. His computer needed a "cleansing" to stop corrupting files. Files were actually being corrupted locally, so it wasn't only a server issue...at least in our case. One thing that we did that "sort of" worked...we transferred the file to a PC and ran a shareware utility that repairs PSDs (Advanced PSD Repair Software). It said it repaired the file successfully, BUT it separated the files into a couple of hundred individual documents. Each layer and layer mask was a separate file. I didn't see any setting to recover as a composed file so I guess this is just how it works. If your file is not heavily layered and complex, I guess this might work for you, but, like I told the designer, I ain't goin' in there and reconstructing your layers. =) I know this doesn't help if you don't have access to a PC with Photoshop loaded in it, but thought this might help some poor soul along the way. Good luck...

  • File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop error

Computer crashed yesterday and now I am getting "File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error and unable to opening in PS CS5 or Fireworks CS5. Any ideas? Also tried the PS repair download and would rather not pay $30 to find out it can't do it. Seems like a common error but in all of the forums I haven't found a solid answer. Appreciate some real advise.
    Thanks in advance

There are 3 possible reasons for that error: file corruption on disk, more than 8000 layers in the file, or a layer somehow went over 30,000 pixels in a PSD file (which would be legal in PSB, but not in PSD).

  • When i try and load this brush pack i bought it says "Because this file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"

Ive Restarted photoshop Multiple times and it still Doesnt work im on photoshop cs5 and i havent had this problem in a while but again this is a abr file.

If this problem still persists please verify that this brush pack is compatible with photoshop cs5-also it would help alot to know these things: if your photoshop is running on a apple operating system or windows  operating system  moreover what version of  operating system. Some other things that could hinder this brush pack from working are its installed incorrectly or in the wrong place also resetting cs5 preferences can help. Last if what you posted originally is true and or accurate-"-when i try and load this brush pack i bought" it says "Because this file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" Then it is exactly as it states a Brush Pack that will not WORK with CS5.

I downloaded it and looked at it.  Even Graphic Converter can't recover any pixels or meaningful data, just some general information:
In my experience, if GraphicConverter can't open it, nothing will.
    Your file is toast  Sorry.

  • How do i fix this, i have only been using Photoshop elements 11 on my computer, now it's saying ' could not complete your request because file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop Elements' BUT I HAVE ONLY BEEN USING THIS PHOTOSHOP.

    What do i do

Which operating system are you running on?
Do you get this error when loading or using the organizer or the editor?
What are you trying to do when you get this error?
If you are using raw files, which camera (make and model) do you use to create the raw files?
If you can load the editor, which version of camera raw do you have loaded? - see Help -> about Plug-in -> Camera raw

  • Error: Could not complete your request because file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop

I'm recieving this error on numerous files of mine (files are all fairly large)
I'm running CS, CS2 and CS3 on my machine and none will open them.
    Suggestions?

Assuming that each file has its appropriate extension (.psd, .tif, .jpg, etc.), I would say your files are corrupted.
This can happen in one of at least two ways:
1.—attempting to work across a network; or
    2.—running NAV (Norton Anti Virus).
If your files are on a server on a network, copy the CLOSED file to your local hard drive through the Finder, then open it, edit it, CLOSE it and finally copy the CLOSED file back to the server.  The reason for this is that, if the network administrator makes an error in setting up the network, opening files directly from the server or saving them directly to the server can corrupt the file permanently.
Sometimes Illustrator or Graphic Converter can open the flattened composite of such a corrupted file, but any layers will be toast.
Finally, saving a file that is over 2GB as a PSD rather than a PSB can result in an inability to ever open the file again.

  • Photoshop CS2: "file not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error

So, I've been working with Photoshop for almost 20 years now, and lately I've been getting this error message on occasion (but not on every file) when I go to open a file I worked on just yesterday: "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." I just worked on it yesterday in Photoshop. The file was saved as a PSD, and when I attempt to open it through Painter IX, that program tells me that it's not a Photoshop document. Why can't I open this file anymore, and why is it giving me this error message when I don't have Norton AntiVirus installed, and my 'maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility' is set to 'always'??
Does anyone have an idea on how I can open my file? How can I get around this, and how do I prevent it from happening again?
