File links with utf-8 characters don't work in windows

When I click a link like "file:///C:\символы UTF-8\path" to open in Windows File Explorer it doesn't work.
("My documents" folder opens instead).
How can such links be converted to Windows encoding, when Windows File Explorer is called?
My settings:
network.protocol-handler.expose.file = false
network.protocol-handler.external.file = true
FF 27, Windows 7

Importing a thesaurus with UTF-8 characters in it?

I have a *.syn file with UTF-8 characters in it (danish characters) and the file is encoded in UTF-8. I can import the thesaurus without any problems, and if I export it again it looks all good, it is encoded in UTF-8 and the danish characters looks good.
However if I try and search with broaden or narrow I never get any hits when there are danish characters involved, but it works fine for ASCII characters.
Maybe I should note that searching with danish characters without using the thesaurus works fine.
Any ideas where I should look for my problem?

NLS_LANG is a system environment variable.

How are you loading the thesaurus? Via the command line admin utility or via web services? If it's web services then setting the environment variable may not work.

Shared photo-stream, makes long file names with 42 random characters

Windows icloud 3.1, in a shared photo-stream, makes file names with 42 random characters long. It didn't do this in iCloud 2. I have installed iCloud 3.1 on a windows 8.0 and 8.1 machine and two Windows 7 machines. They all do the same thing. It used to give me file names like "IMG_0001.jpg" now it gives me random file names like "01a9fc3363330464233a142486180f0c1622eb9fca.jpg" all the pictures are out order.
Does anyone have fix for this? Does any one else have this problem? I have posted this before and know one else that uses windows seams to have this problem exect me. I did call Apple and they did some research and bumped me up to senior techs and eventuality Apple told me this is working the way it was designed to. This is extremely stupid, I need the sequential file names so the pictures will sort correctly.

I did find a Work Around. What I do when I receive a folder full of pictures from another ios iPhone user, I copy all the photos as a batch from the PhotoStream folder into a free Windows program called "FastStone Photo Resizer" from www.FastStone.org. This program allows you to resize the photos as a batch to what ever size you wish. In my case I resize them to 2560 x 1440 which fills my 27" monitor and reduces the file size of each picture from 2MB or 3MB down to about 450 KB without degrading the picture as far as what you see on the screen.
This program will also within the same batch operation, allow you to sort the pictures by "Date Taken" which is the Date and Time the picture was taken. It gets this information from the EXIF data in the jpg file. This program will then rename the files with different numbering format options including date, time, alphanumberic and with just simple numbers starting at what ever number you wish to start with. I can get files that look like this again "IMG_0001.jpg" and have all the pictures in the correct order that they were taken. At this point, I save the pictures directly to a folder on my PC. The cool thing about this is, all the EXIF data is preserved as well. I can process a 100 pictures in less that 60 seconds. I hope this helps. For me, I can now live with this iCloud numbering defect.

If you don't have a rescue email address (or you do but aren't the receiving the email to it) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

ITunes and Quicktime don't work on Windows 7 64-bit

iTunes and Quicktime don't work on Windows 7 64-bit. I tried to uninstall and install the package according to Apple support article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) but still the same problem. I even tried to stop the Bonjour, it didn't help either. When I try to run either iTunes or Quicktime I get a Windows error message "iTunes has stopped working", with details like this:

Taken as a whole, the symptoms suggest that another application (other than QuickTime itself) has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

Desktop themes don't work in Windows 7

Just loaded Windows 7 under Bootcamp. Desktop themes don't work. The choices offered in the Control Panel just don't take when I click on them. I'm stuck with a plain black desktop. What gives? Graphics seem ok but maybe I'm missing something.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

File encoding with UTF-8

Hello all,
My scenario is IDoc -> XI -> File (txt).
Everything was working fine until i have to handle eastern european language with weird symbol
So in my file adapter receiver, i'm using the file encoding code UTF-8 and when i look my field in output, everything is fine.
BUT, when i look in binary, the length of these field is not longer fixed because a special character takes 2 bytes instead of one.
I would like to know if it's possible to handle those characters with a file encoding code UTF-8 in a fixed length field of 40 characters for example don't want a variable length for my fields...

I agree with you. In XI, i don't have this problem, i have it in my ouput file when i edit my text file in binary mode !
My field should be on 40 characters but the special symbol which take 2 bytes instead of 1 make the length of my output fields variable !!!
My question was to know if there is a way to have a fixed length in my output file..

URLEncoding of URLs with UTF-8 characters

I'm trying to URL encode a URL with some chinese characters in them. But it isnt working properly.
i.e. When i decode back the encdoed URL (using java.net.URLDEncoder.decode(String) & java.net.URLDecoder.decode(string) respectively), I dont get the same URL back... The chinese characters are lost some how...
I tried writing it to a file instead of printing the out put, but no luck...

I tried something similar in different ways. After spending days.. i came up with something which is working fine for me in any language. I tested the following code from java applet, or input from HTML page, it seems to be working fine. I hope this helps.
Do not use the request.getParemeter() for retrieving chinese or other 2/3 byte input characters. Instead create your own hashtable and do read ur request input stream directly.

Clob may be supporting unicode but isnt NCLOB specially for unicode!
as the document "Migration to Unicode Datatypes for Multilingual Databases and
Applications" says "Unicode datatypes were introduced in Oracle9i. Unicode datatypes are supported through the SQL
NCHAR datatypes: NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, and NCLOB. (In this paper, Unicode datatypes refers
to SQL NCHAR types.) SQL NCHAR datatypes have existed since Oracle8. However, in Oracle9i
forward, they have been redefined and their length semantics have been changed to meet customer
globalization requirements. Data stored in columns of SQL NCHAR datatypes are exclusively stored in
a Unicode encoding regardless of the database character set. These Unicode columns allow users to
store Unicode in a database, which may not use Unicode as the database character set. Therefore,
developers can build Unicode applications without dependence on the database character set. The
Unicode datatypes also make it easier for customers to incrementally migrate existing applications and
databases to support Unicode."

TOC link with a subscript character does not work in PDF

Hi,
has anyone come across with this? A heading has a subscript character and when you generate a PDF, the TOC page has no link. Other TOC heading links work out just fine, but all these that have subscript, these do not.
I have used Save As PDF and selected even create named destinations for all Paragraphs. Usually the TOC works fine even if that is not selected. A link with subscript does not work in either case.

It's not just format changes in body <$paratext> that break this. If you so much as apply a different format to the elements on the TOC Reference Page TOC (such as making the page number a different font), that breaks the HT of the page number in the PDF.

Well, Adobe might consider this to be an Enhancement Request item, but I consider it to be a defect.
Is there anyone who would object if the TOC entries had functional full-string HT links by default? If so, Adobe could fix the problem, and have an Update tickbox to revert to legacy broken behavior.
In any case, the Unicode solution is not really a "work-around", even though I put it that way. For anything where Unicode has a glyph that you would otherwise implement as FrameRoman with a Character Format, use Unicode.

Photoshop Liquify Brush Size increase/decrease with alt+crtl drag don't work anymore...

I have installed the last Update to Photoshop CS6 13.0.4...
Now I can't increase/decrease the Brush Size in the Liquify-Dialog anymore (before I installed the update, it works fine with alt+crtl and drag)...
If I press alt+crtl, the "Cancel"-Button is shown as "Revert", but the Brush resizing don't work... :-/
I use a Mac on OS X 10.6.8...
But it seems it has to do with the system... beacause at home I use 10.8.3 and there works everything fine with the 13.0.4 Update!!!
