File Manager or network explore options available?

Hello!
of course one of the droves who purchased a Touchpad recently and trying to access network files, music and documents.
I have done a couple searches but it seems like the WebOS versions of these programs designed for the phones won't work on this device, any suggestions?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

There are file managers available.  One that I know of is Gemini.  I am sure there are others, but Gemini is the only one that comes to mind for me.  I don't know of any network explorers.

  • What is Mac's equivalent to Windows Explorer (file manager not internet explorer)?

Have just migrated to macBook Pro from being a windows user for years. I don't trust backing up my important files to Cloud and would much prefer to back them up to an external hard drive as I used to on my Windows laptop. How can I do the same in my MacBook - I just want to 'right click' on a folder called 'documents' and copy everything over to the external drive. Can this be done?

It's called Finder and yes you can copy your documents to an external drive.  The drive icons on the side of your desktop invoke finder windows.  Inside are folders which can be displayed with details or icons.  You can drag and drop just like windows.
If you don't have drive icons on your desktop then click anywhere on the desktop and look at the top menu bar.  It will say "finder", now use the menu to select finder then preferences and turn on the icons.  You should also have a square blue "smile" icon on the dock which invokes finder.

  • Network Manager Applet Cannot Edit Options/Connections As Normal User

Today I installed Network Manager, and Network Manager Applet in XFCE as a normal user. I followed the instructions on the Arch Network Manager Wiki to the best of my knowlage. The NM-Applet connects to my ethernet, and everything is fine. Untill that is, when I right click the NM Applet.
Once right clicked as a normal user, 'Enable Networking', and 'Enable Wireless' are greyed out and unselectable. Also, when I right click the applet and select 'Edit Connections' 90% of the clickable options are greyed out, including the options to 'Edit' or 'Delete' connections. The only clickable option not greyed out is 'Add' button.
Clicking Add brings up the 'Add New Connection Window', but again everything is greyed out. 'Available To All Users' is checked, but is greyed out also. But, starting XFCE as root, allows me to use the NM Applet with no restrictions, AKA none of the greyed out options. Everything works fine. This is my second day using Arch, so I am not sure where to go now.
It also may be of help ito say I haven't gotten a display manager, such as lightdm or gdm.
My guess is that root is listed under a group the 'jesse' isn't. Or maybe it has something to do with PolicyKit. I'm not sure. If someone could give me a set of clear instructions on how to fix this annoyance, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I found the solution, I had to install a Display Manager. Now everything is fine.

  • When will AR Andriod APP have the 2-sided print option available for a local network duplex enabled printing?

When will AR Andriod APP have the 2-sided print option available for a local network duplex enabled printing?

    I solved my problem!
Since I suspected routing or firewall problems inside the LAN, I went in to the router setup and did some in depth snooping. On an advanced menu of the wireless section was a one-line setting and check-box that said "Block Wireless Bridging". According to the manual, this setting "blocks wireless clients from communicating with other wireless clients on the LAN side of the Gateway."
I unchecked it and restarted the router and now all macs are screen and file sharing.

I am trying to delete an XLS file from a network drive and am getting a message that says the file cannot be deleted because it is in use.  I can't see where it is in use and have tried to reboot the computer to no avail.  I can delete other files but several XLS files are giving me this message.

You said it was a network drive.  So is someone else on the network using that same file or may have have left with excel still accessing it on their system?

  • How can I change "manually manage music and videos" option whitout loose my files?

When I change "manually manage music and videos" option iTunes delete all my files first. This a stupid thing from Apple.
Anybody knows if exists a way to change this option without loose the contents in iPhone?

    ...New iTunes installation...
There's the magic words right there.
The iPhone will only sync with 1 iTunes library at a time. If you want to sync to a new iTunes installation, you have to re-establish the sync relationship, which means wiping the phone and replacing the content with what's in the current iTunes library on the computer.
There is NO WAY around this.

No such option on an iPhone.  Just go to Settings>wifi, tap the name (SSID) of your your home network from the list, then when prompted, enter the password.

sorry, no can do...ain't gonna happen.
What you've done is hit the wall on is the basic difference between lite duty spot healing and photo level tone and color correction (Lightroom and Camera Raw) and heavy duty pixel retouching in Photoshop.
When you need to substantially manipulate the "pixels" you need Photoshop and you'll be forced to render the raw file into a TIFF or PSD file either through Camera Raw or more better, via Lightroom.
You can do the basic tone and color correction directly in Lightroom and edit in Photoshop from Lightroom. But you will NEED to create and save out a "rendered" image that is no longer raw...then retouch to your heart's desire, save it and it'll be available in Lightroom along side your original raw if you choose.
But no, there's no way to open a raw in Photoshop, manipulate the heck out of it with massive retouching then save that back out as a raw file...ain't gonna happen.

  • Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?

Like the topic - "Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?"
I installed this OS, and it looks nice, but it's terrible to use. I randomly have the volume controls get disabled, and sometimes the volume menu in the system tray does nothing when adjusted which I've never seen in an OS before. The trash won't empty. When I try to drag and drop newer files over existing ones, nothing happens. The old ones just stay there. I have to delete the old ones and then move the new ones. And when I go into the protected files to manage audio plugins (I make music), the first thing I hit are error codes galore, and password prompts that either don't popup when they should, or don't execute the command after I provide my password.
What can I do now that I installed the flames of **** onto my computer?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • File manager options in Arch/GNOME

    Hi!
This is my first post here - I'm an Arch user for about three days now. I migrated fro mWindows XP to Ubuntu about six months ago and decided to move to a different distro because I was fed up of the shocking speed (which, admittedly, was a lot faster than XP), not being encouraged into the terminal (everything has a shiny interface) and everything constantly breaking (I think i've typed dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg more times than my name now). I really like what I see - it's super fast and lightweight and installing Arch, X and GNOME was super smooth (apart from a 36 hour bad-patch where I got my network cards confused ). The only major gripe I have with it is that nautilus is an absolute pita here - it's the only thing I can honestly say was better in Ubuntu. Nautilus here has no sidebar, status-bar or navigation bar and opens every folder in a new window. Whenever I'm moving around anywhere other than in home I like to use the terminal, but I do a lot of browsing in my home directory and find it's pretty essential to have a good file manager so I thought I'd post a thread and see if anyone had any reccomendations for good file managers for Arch/Gnome. What's popular, what works well and what looks good? (I need something easy on the eye, screenshots would be nice) - can anyone pass on a reccomendation?
    Cheers
    Pete

you can configure nautilus doing that:
open nautilus->edit->preferences; select Behaviour and mark Always Open in browser windows.

  • From where i will get file manager option in firefox os smart phone

i am not getting file manager option in firefox os smart phone, please suggest step wise process to follow.

    Hi sanatankumarsahu,
Was the download of the File Manager application successful? If so, an icon for the application should have been added to your Home Screen.
Make sure you swipe to the left/right until you find the newly downloaded application.
If you dislike that specific File Manager, you may download and test different file manager applications from the link that Philipp provided.
    Thanks,

  • Transfer media to iPod w/ simply file manager app (e.g., Windows Explorer)

I like my iPod. But I wish I could sync/transfer media (songs and video) onto it without having to use special sync/management software (e.g., iTunes, Songbird, Banshee) to do so.
I wish I could use just a regular file management application such as "Windows Explorer" or Nautilus.
Is there a way to hack the iPod to make it do what I wish?

Is there a way to hack the iPod to make it do what I wish?
iTunes gives the music odd file names and the iPod reads the music via these file names. Using Windows won't create the file structure hence no ability for the iPod to read and play the music.
I believe some software such as Sharepod might do what you want.

  • Best File Manager / File Browser / Finder / Explorer ?

What is the absolute best file manager / file browser / finder / explorer ?

There won't be one for the iphone system, or I guess other apps files.
But there are a few that can open photos, documents, videos from the album and email.
iOS is quite closed as far as searching around inside the file system.
This I believe is to protect the system and make it more "fool proof" (and reading many posts on this forum you get an idea why it is good to be this way).
There are iphone browsers for on computers that browse the iphone when connected.
But you would have to jail break your iphone to really open it up to looking in the system; and should not be attempted unless you really know what you are doing.
Or are you looking for an app to browser a computer over wifi?

Even I'm in India and using without problems, checked my tweets just now using Nokia social. If you are so particular about using that better install it again by downloading the .sis file from beta labs or you've got many free alternatives twitter clients like tweets60, socially, twimgo etc. For chat you've got Nimbuzz which won't affect network drives.
