File manager stopped displaying files in Dropbox

Worked Friday, didn't work Satursday. "Connect to Dropbox" app says I'm signed in and Sync is up to date.
Tried deleting Connect to Dropbox, reinstalling, restarting, the usual, to no effect.
Information on Crackberry forums suggests problem is widespread across carriers, devices, platforms on OS10.
Looking forward to a fix.

There are reports that service is restoring...slow and sluggish, but functional now. Hopefully it is the same for you.

    Are you sure that the "ls" binary is still the original
    binary delivered with the solaris OS?
    Check the integrity of /usr/bin/ls with:
    pkgchk -p /usr/bin/ls
    (there have been quite a few people that reported that
    "ls" stopped displaying files containing the substring
    "01". They've been hacked, there's a rootkit installed
    on their systems with a modifed "ls" binary that is
    intended to hide the rootkit installed in "/dev/pts/01" - something like that. You're the first who complains
    about files containing "dos" are not displayed by "ls"
    but this sounds at least close to a compromised
    system!)

    Using the desktop slideshow, I have added a file from dropbox for the slideshow.  If I delete the dropbox file, does that delete the file from the list on the slideshow?  Do I need to leave the file on the computer itself rather than in the dropbox and then delete it from the dropbox?

    If you are going to delete the file from Dropbox, you will need the file on your computer.
    You will probably need to put the file in Library/Screen Savers

    George, you wrote something that encouraged me to try to encrypt a PDF document again using the security icon on the menu bar of my old Acrobat 8 Professional. It worked this time (it wouldn't encrypt on my first try, and I wrongly assumed that it wasn't compatible with Maverick OS).  I dropped document into Dropbox, retrieved it with mobile devices; and when I tapped on the document, it simply asked for the password and opened perfectly. When moving to a different screen, then back to the secured PDF file, one must re-enter the password again (which is good).
    As far as what PDF viewer -- I don't know.  I have the Acrobat Reader APP on my devices, is that the reader the document is using??  I've never figured out which APPs are running at any particular time on these devices.

    The way that Dropbox works is that it keeps a copy of all your files in your local Dropbox folder on your hard drive (which is, by default, directly under your home folder). Adding files to that folder will sync them to the Dropbox server.
    You do of course have to download the Dropbox application to enable this (download link at the top right of http://dropbox.com ).

  • Help! deleted file on dropbox can i recover it on time machine?

    Help I deleted my senior project! So i was responsible and synced my project with drobox and "regularly' backed up my computer. Well, after I turned it in I needed some space in my drobox and deleted my synced folder which deleted it off my computer. I backed up my computer the day after and I guess I didnt realize that I had deleted this IMPORTANT folder for awhile... So its 3 months from when I did that so too late to recover the lost files from dropbox. Is there a way I can recover the folder from time machine? The last backup was way too old before I deleted the file and I only have a backup from the day AFTER I deleted it. Please help!

  • Can't Sync Files in Dropbox Subdirectories

    I installed both dropbox and dropbox-cli from the AUR, and I noticed that files don't get uploaded or synced when I copy, move, or edit a file into my Dropbox folder. For instance, I run dropboxd, daemon starts up, syncs up with cloud, then it says it's up to date from the icon. But let's say I edit a file with vim. The changes do not sync, and if I restart dropboxd, a conflicted file is generated. If I copy or move a file into the Dropbox folder with cp or mv from the terminal, that file just don't get uploaded, even when I restart dropboxd. So far, I have been able to use the online uploader, but it's very inconvenient, and the online uploader is terrible for folders. My Dropbox folder is located on another drive, so could it be a permissions problem? Here's the relevant line in my fstab:
    /dev/sda3 /media/universal ntfs-3g defaults 0 0
    it might not be, however. Any ideas? I could install nautilus and dropbox-nautilus (or some other equivalent), but I'm trying my best to stick to just the terminal for now, so I don't particularly like the idea.
    Edit: The problem is actually that files don't sync with copying/moving/editing files in any subdirectories in the Dropbox main directory. Files sync just fine when copying/moving/editing files in the Dropbox main directory. Dropbox's preferences have selective sync on all files and folders (essentially complete sync. Is there a difference?).

    Ok, I did update my clock, and I don't think it helped. At least I know how to update my clock now, though.
    I experimented a little bit more and found out more specifics on the problem that I have. Let's say I have a test.txt file somewhere. If I copy/move/edit the test.txt file into the Dropbox main directory, the file syncs fine! I almost went on here and said the problem was fixed. However, let's say the Dropbox folder has a subdirectory Test_Dir. Now if I copy/move/edit test.txt into the Test_Dir directory, no file syncing happens at all. Wait around for a while, restart dropboxd, nothing. Doesn't show up on the dropbox website either (while in the previous case it showed up right away). This happens for any subdirectory. So, the problem is more specifically files don't sync when copying/moving files into Dropbox subdirectories. I checked Dropbox's preferences, and I have selective sync on all my folders, so that shouldn't be the problem. Any ideas? (I edited the topic subject to be more specific)

    All of my .docx files on dropbox open as .pdf files when I click on them. I can get around it by closing the file and going to the download window that opened when I clicked on the file and clicking download again. It then opens up a window asking me how I want to view the file. However, this is quite inconvenient. Is there any way to make it so that it doesn't automatically open as a .pdf in the first place?

  • Finder thumbnail previews stop displaying after a bit.

    My co-worker and I both have 27" iMacs running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. We have tons of image files (many are .eps) that we go though to grab clip art from during the day. We generally rely on looking at the preview of these, however the thumbnail preview in icon view stops displaying images after looking scrolling through for a bit. I usually can't generate any more thumbnail previews after about a third of my work day is over, making it difficult to see which images to choose. Quick Look still works though. Any ideas? (And yes, I do have "Show Icon Preview" checked in the finder's view options.)

    Best I can think of is that some cache is filling up, or getting so large Finder is having difficulty managing it.
    You might run Disk Utility to see if there's any problems with the hard drive.
    Are both Macs doing this? Do they have separate hard drives for these files, or are you sharing a drive, like a network drive?
    How full is the hard drive?
    I tried opening and closing folder after folder of image files (ones with thumbnails) while Activity Monitor was up and running, and Finder uses more and more memory the more folders I opened; closing them did not fully return the memory usage to a pre-opening level. Seemed to be a steady growth in Finder's memory usage as more and more such folders were opened and closed.

  • Why has Lightroom 4 stopped displaying my images?

    I was scrolling through my image libary in thumbnail mode - quite fast as I was looking for certain groups of images to keyword them.  I had been doing this for some time and then suddenly it just stopped displaying the images - the thumbnails were just empty.  I thought they would render after a few seconds but they didn't.  I then scrolled back up and none of the images were being displayed.  Lightroom would then not close properly so I had to force quit.  Computer wouldn't shut down properly either - I assume Lightroom was still doing something in the background.  When I restarted the computer and opened Lightroom the same problem was the same - no images at all being displayed.  Everything seems fine on the hard drive when I look outside of Lightroom so the images are there, and all the folders are still in place in the Lightroom catalogue - just not displaying images.  Any ideas?

    Re-installing LR very rarely changes anything...
    Did you install some other software recently?
    Is your preferences file ok? ...just thinking of one *of the usual suspects*... [on Win7  C:\Users\<youruser>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs] ... you can rename the existing one and let LR recreate a new one.
    Recreating as suggested above would not mean your total catalog, but all your previews - if we suspect the previews folder of corruption.
    Speaking of usual suspects: try the last backups of your catalog, if they show the same behaviour? ...to rule out some corruption of your working catalog...
    You optimize your catalog regularly, e.g. before creating the backup? If not, you could also try that.
    If none of your catalogs works, then create a fresh test catalog and import a few images and render their previews, to see if it is actually your LR installation with the problem.
    Did you try LR4.3RC already? This might make more sense than re-installing an older version.

    I developed a repository manager and deployed the par file Archive uploader.
    Most time after deployment, I can see immediately an instance of the repository manager under KM Content. However, sometimes, when I made some changes to the code, it doesn't appear under KM Content. The deployment log in SYS/global/config/cm/reports shows no error.
    I tried to find some log in System Administration - Monitor, but found nothing.
    So, could anyone tell me:
    1. What might be the reason for the problem that the repository manager cannot display under KM Content after deploying the par?
    2. Where can I find the log explaining why my repository manager cannot display?

    Hi Ray,
    Deploying a repository manager means a hot KM deployment, which isn't supported at all, see https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/bb1f18be-0801-0010-ffa0-e3495f7401bc and SAP note 894884. After such a deployment, the KM is restarted, but you have some kind of "shadow KM" in memory, which leads for most things to an unpredictable behaviour.
    In contrast to the documents reffered to above, also the standard KM delivery from SAP still behaves in an uncontrolled way for many issues.
    That's why after a KM hot deployment, you should restart your server if you realize anything "unusual". A workaround is to debug your code and using the hot code replacement feature (which only works in some situations, but that's better than nothing...).
