File may be truncated or incomplete? Help!

I have Mac G5 and Photoshop CS3 When saving I get a message: This document may be damaged (the file may be truncated or incomplete). Continue? I do have Capture one of this machine too.
Can anyone help?   I do not get it on any other machines.
Thanks

I'm assuming this is on a local drive, not a networked drive?
Sometime permissions issues can cause strange things in programs on networked drives.
Have you tried a Save As, on another location or folder on your system?

It sounds like the drive directory is corrupted.
Boot from the DVD that came with your iMac. Open Disk Utility and repair the hard drive.

  • "This file may be corrupted"     error= -100000 help?

I recently purchased an album and all the songs dowloaded except for one. I get a message that says the file may be corrupted. Anyone know why it might be doing this? Thanks

Edit MyProject01 on day one, at end of the day "save as" MyProject02
Edit MyProject02 on day two,  at end of the day "save as" MyProject03
Start editing on day three, IF you at some time discover that MyProject03 is corrupt, and if autosave projects are also corrupt, open MyProject02 and IMMEDIATELY "save as" MyProject03a and continue editing so MyProject02 is still there as a reserve
Also... are you running your "old" CS4 in WinXP compatibility mode in Win7?

  • Truncated or incomplete file

When I try to open a large (98MG) tiff file in PhotoShop, I get the following message: "This file may be damaged (the file may be truncated or incomplete)." When I continue, the image appears with a blue line through it. I am, however, able to view the file using Microsoft Office Document Imaging, and the image is perfect.
    What's happening?
    Thanks,
    Laura

I have only used one of the above mentioned programs (the free IrfanView), but have also had the same good results with Ulead (not sure it this one has been sold to maybe Corel?) PhotoImpact and also Cerious Software's ThumbsPlus. Both, however, are either commercial, or shareware.
For free, IrfanView would be my first choice.
Usually, when this happens, the file's header is corrupt, or not well-formed. Just Open it in the other program, and do a Save_As to the same format. Usually, this will re-write the header info in a proper form for PS.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • File may be incomplete or truncated

I just opened some files from my external HD to do some photoshoping and got this warning that the file may be incomplete or truncated, and at the bottom of the image it seems to be corrupted if thats the proper word. What I would like to is know what caused it and how to prevent it. Only a few files out of 500 were affected, but I opened another folder and every image was affected, 400+ images. Then there are folders that are completely unaffected. Thanks, Adrian

I use CineXplayer on my iPad (2) and today have started getting an error message stating I don't have permission to copy files from my hp pavilion 6 across to my iPad. I think I may have accidentally disabled iTunes Helper, but it is running in Task Manager.
I have removed iTunes and re installed.

That's a comment in the file. It has no effect at all.

Having installed Aperture, iPhoto won't open. When I try it fails with the message "You can't open the iPhoto.app because it may be damaged or incomplete. Any help please?

OK, fixed it.  Found that iPhoto is now BACK in the App store.
Found iPhoto app in Finder and dragged it to Trash.
Downloaded iPhoto from App store and all now back working again.
Didnt expect to find iPhoto in App store as last time I looked it wasn't available.

1 - the iPhoto application is an application and does not hole your photos - your photos are in the iPhoto library an dour normal daily backup will back them up so your photos are safe
2 - what exactly does the error message say? You probably need to reinstall the iPhoto application form the original source
3 - note that no version of iPhoto comes with any OS - iPhoto comes with all new Macs but not with any OS and most OS versions can run many different versions of iPhoto

  • When i am trying to open my i photo it saysYou can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete. dont know why any one can help me i have i mac 21.5" bought it last year feb

You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

I have an I pad Mini. Since i down loaded the new update ISO 7, my I Pad is not running certain media files either from Chrome or Safari browser. I called technical support but they failed to provide any help stating the media files may not be compctable with new soft ware. I do bnot agree with their finding because i have I phone with ISO 7 updated soft ware and same files run on my I phone but not on I Pad. This was working fine before updating new software. This device is useless for me if i can not watch the program that i bought this for. I want device to replaced or taken back by the company. Thank you

Here are the iPad Mini specifications:

i think i put system preferences in my trash by accident and now it says i cant open it because it may be dameged or incomplete what do i do??? HELP please?

Did you retrieve it from the trash, or are you trying to open it while in the trash?
If it's become corrupted you'll need to reinstall the OS to be sure of repairing it properly. If you're on 10.6 that won't affect your accounts and data, but as you don't mention what OS you have we can't give specific advise on the install.

  • I downloaded mountain lion and then the new office suite (word, ppt, excel) but now when I try to display one of my ppt's it says 'ppt cannot open the file...the file may be corrupt, in use, not a type recognized by ppt etc.." how can I fix it?? HELP

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.
If that doesn't work, consider asking in the Microsoft Office: Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.

    wen6275,
It looks like you're actually using a camera or phone to take a photo of your monitor.
That's not what is commonly known as a "screen shot".
It looks like you're on a Mac.  Hitting Command+Shift+3 places a capture of the contents of your entire monitor on your Desktop; hitting Command+Shift+4 will give you a cross-hairs cursor for you to select just the portion you want to capture.
I'm mentioning this because I fear I'm not construing your original post correctly when you type "I am working with a large files [sic], currently it has 149 layers, all of which are high resolution photographs", so I'm wondering if there's some similar use of your own idiosyncratic nomenclature in your description of your troublesome file.
Perhaps I'm just having a major senior moment myself, but I'm utterly unable to imagine such a file.  Would you mind elaborating?

  • I am unable to open Photo on my MacBook Pro after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get says "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3)  after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.
