File Menu Missing (File, Edit, View, Document..."

This is my first time using this forum - let me know if I should ask this elsewhere. I am a seasoned user of Adobe Acrobat, but I am now using Windows 8 and am having some challenges. For some reason, the top "Menu" bar has disappeared when I open a .pdf in Adobe Acrobat 9. I cannot even see the "X" on the top right side to close the file. Is there something I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Keep in mind that Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Windows 8.
The Acrobat 9 product family went into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.

Check if you have multiple Java versions installed on your computer.
Try clean boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Also i would suggest uninstall security software and install it back.
Currently you may use F9 key to restore Menu bar.

Keynote file menu missing save as and duplicate

Running latest versions of mountain lion and iwork--just upgraded, but have this curious problem only in keynote. When I use shift-command-S get nothing; pressing option activates "close". I listed this in the keynote forum but no help from there so far... any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for the response. I got a fix for it. Went to another account on the mac and keynote had the proper file menu options listed. Under library/Preferences I trashed all the iWork related plist and the Cache file--Rebooted and all was back in order. Wish I could say I figured this out all by myself, but Apple support walked me through it. FYI if you run across anyone else with this type of issue.

Cannot open my photos in 3rd party apps by file menu- open file command

iphoto08 prevents me from opening my photos in ANY application by way of the file menu' 'file open' command located on the apple bar at the top of the screen..
the only work around i can find for this issue is to have iphoto open and drag each photo i want to use from iphoto into the 'file open' dialouge box in another program. or drag the photo from iphoto onto the desktop.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANOTHER SOLUTION?

The short answer is that Apple has made the library a package to protect it from damage.
Old Toad has a back up script to backup your library on your local disk
For e-mail the best way is to configure MAIL as your mail client if it will work for your service (it does work for many), select the photos you want and click e-mail to generate an e-mail to send
For editing you can set iPhoto preferences to use a third party program to edit photos.
So there are Many solutions depending on what you are trying to do.

Keynote file menu and file operations very slow

Anyone else seeing specific slow downs when you open, save, etc or access the file menu on the new version of keynote 5.1 using 10.6.8.
Any fixes?

I will try to make a WebDAV repository out of one on Monday.
I just tried something different though. I logged on as a user with administrator rights, it only took 13 seconds to list the directory instead of 3 minutes plus. The regular user has rights and eventually sees what they should, it is just painfully slow.

Why do my Pages files become huge after editing a document on my ipad

I use Pages on my iPad and on my iMac. When I've created a simple document on the mac it's around 100kb, I then continue working on the ipad via icloud, transfer back to the mac and suddenly it's over 5mb!!
WHY?!?!?
And is there any way to stop it doing this?
Not bothered about storage but I send a lot of documents via email and obviously this is more of a problem

The iPad stores the raw photo data, but displays an iPad optimized version of the original image in its place.
This image is usually an optimized JPEG image, so the quality will not be the same as the raw image file.

How do I recover Missing Files

I have several groups of pictures that have gone missing since I first used Picasa to share some photos. I could care less about a lot of them but there were a couple of hundred of my trip to England I would really like to recover. The thumbnails show up in my Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 but when you click on them they say that they are missing. These photos are no longer in MY Pictures either and the only thing in those folders is a Picasa.ini .
I have also checked my recycle bin but there is nothing in there. Does anyone have any help as to how I may recover these photos?

It is a common misconception that Starter Edition 'stores', or copies, your files into it. But the program does not move or copy files at all, rather it scans your system's My Pictures directory, and generates miniature versions of your pictures (called thumbnails) so that you can browse a 'flat' list of thumbnails of your photos, overcoming the inconvenience of having to go into separate folders in Windows Explorer to have to find files.The thumbnails, as well as any tags, and Albums that you create in Starter Edition are all stored in the Photoshop Album catalog file, separate from your pictures, and your pictures remain where you originally copied them to your computer.
If you use Photoshop Album to subsequently download files from a digital camera or scanner, the default location where the program will create those files would be in the My Pictures>Digital Camera Photos folder. But if you do NOT use Photoshop Album Starter edition to download files from your camera, then you will find that folder empty.
The thumbnails in the Starter Edition catalog will exist, even if you decide to move or delete the original photos that were added to the program. This will cause files in the Photoshop Album catalog to become 'disconnected' from the original photos. To reconnect the files, you can use the File>Reconnect Missing files command to see if the program can locate the original files in a new location, and once again re-link the catalog thumbnails to the files they once referenced.
Since Photoshop Album has been discontinued, I recommend that folks find an alternative solution. One alternative that will preserve most of what you've created in Starter Edition is the Photoshop Elements 8 trial. Install that, and it will automatically convert the Photoshop Album catalog to a current format, and the program will not time out, as Starter Edition did. If you want to purchase more Editing power, you can also choose to purchase the full program, but it's not required.
If you are like many who have come to this forum wondering how you can get to your photos, now that the program has become locked or expired, don't worry; your photos have never been moved by Photoshop Album; they remain wherever you intially put them, on your hard drive. To get to them, you can navigate your file system using Windows Explorer. They are typically in your My Documents>My Pictures folder. After updates I am getting 'The required index.xml file is missing'

I updated Pages to 5.5.1 after updating MacOS to Yosemite 10.10.1. Since then, when I click on a file I get the message 'The required index.xml file is missing' I can still open the file by dragging it to the Pages Icon in the Dock but it seems like the files should open. What is going on or what did I do wrong?

You have two versions of Pages on your computer:
Pages v5.5.1 - /Applications
Pages ’09 v4.? - /Applications/iWork '09
On Yosemite with Pages v5.5.1, its default file save format is a Single File (compressed folder with .pages extension). When you attempt to open this file with Pages '09, you get the dialog, "The required index.xml file is missing." and the document couldn't be opened.
Pages v5.5.1 also offers a Package file format (folder) obtained via File > Advanced > Change File Type > Package. When Pages ’09 tries to open this document, you get the now familiar dialog, "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document."
In order to access either of these documents in Pages ’09, you will need to first export to Pages '09 format from Pages v5.5.1.

File menu broken in 2014.02

Premiere Pro has been locking up when i go to the file menu after playing a video. The menu will not display or will show an application isn't responding error.
All the other menus work apart from the File menu, When i have attempted to get a screenshot of the problem happening the print screen function also stops working. (all functionality stops working when the file menu is open causing the OS to grind to a hault, this feels like a memory leak.)
What have i done?
Reinstalled Adobe Premiere (Clean install using the uninstaller tool.)
Reinstalled the drivers using a clean installation.
Reinstalled depedencies such as Quicktime and VCs.
What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).: 8.2.0 (65) build (Premiere Pro CC 2014.2)
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.) Yes.
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac". Win 8.1 64 bit
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime". H.264 in a mp4 container.
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? No. (Just having lock ups)
What were you doing when the problem occurred? (Playing a video followed by trying to go to the file menu. the file menu drops down however the file menu isn't displaying. This can make the device lock up completely while it waits for a response from Premiere Pro CC.)

}I think what may be happening here is that, in the first case, you are selecting a file named "" in the current directory (not the directory itself). The absolute path name of this is then given as a string: "H:\java\misc\forums\" + "" (directory + file name). However, this string (when concatenated) represents a directory in the second case. That is, the second one is the current directory, while the first one is a file "" in the current directory ("" would not be a valid file). Internally, File contains a name sequence, representing the hierarchy of directory and file names. My guess is that in one case the hierarchy is {"H:", "java", "misc", "forums", ""} and the other {"H:", "java", "misc", "forums"}; see the difference?
You can test this out using File.getName() or File.getParent() to see if they represent different things:

Missing File Error Dialog won't go away

I successfully ported my iWeb 1 site on my iMac to my MacBook and to iWeb 2. Made a bunch of changes and successfully published to my .mac page (it is up and correct). I placed the Domain file on my desktop on the new computer. However, when I try to open the Domain page it opens my site but gives an error dialog over the main window saying "The following errors occurred when trying to open this file: Missing file (then file name), missing file (then file name), etc." I have the option to 'Continue' but when I click on it nothing changes, the dialog won't go away. I've quit iWeb but it does the same thing every time. So,
A. How do I get this dropdown dialog to go away so I can work on the site (which is now missing all these picture files (which were on the same computer)).
B. Why would the files which were working fine Sat. be 'missing' now. No file locations (domain or pictures) have been changed since then?

Same thing with an older Epson Perfection 1200, two users (one admin and one not), in OSX 10.3.9. At least I can get rid of the dialog box.
Epson Scan works fine for the admin user. Epson were useless, "check the cable" they said. And re-install the software.
If you have any advice from Epson about getting it, even temporarily, working, I'd be delighted.

Press the F9 key to toggle the menu bar on and off. A PDF can contain a setting that will hide the menu bar automatically, which I find very annoying, but you can turn this off with the following preference: Edit > Preferences > Documents > Allow documents to hide the menu bar...

Firefox does not display the basic menu line File Edit View etc. How do I get this menu to show. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that does not help

The "File Edit View Window Help" menu disappears after opening Adobe Acrobat X Standard

After installing Adobe Acrobat X Standard, when I run the program the "File Edit View Window Help" menu is visible for only a brief second then disappears. I tried to press F11 or other functions keys to bring it back. I also installed Adobe Acrobat X Pro which I also have a license for and it would do the exact same thing. Reinstalling the programs did not seem to resolve the problem. Is there an issue inside the registry?

When I press F9, the menu bar appears but the words "File Edit View Window Help" are still missing.
When I press F9 again the menu bar will close.

* In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
* Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
* Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).
