File name extension cut off in thumbnail view

How can you see the file name extension when your looking at a photo in the browser?
So if I have a photo named DSC1122.jpg all I can see in the browser is DSC1122 and the extension is missing?
Makes it difficult when you have photo with 2 formats like .jpg and .nef to tell them apart. Is there a feature in aperture so you can see the extensions in a file mane?

Hi Antoniohavoc,
Welcome to the user-supported Aperture discussion group.
You don't have any system information filled in for your system profile and you didn't mention what version of Aperture you are using. I'll assume you're using Aperture 3.
You aren't actually seeing the file name. You are seeing the version name, which is initialized to the first part of the file name when you import photos. (You can change the version name to anything you want, and it doesn't rename your file.)
You have two options (not mutually exclusive, either) to see the file name. One, you can turn on tooltips and see metadata by hovering your pointer over a picture. The metadata in the tooltip will include the filename. "View | Metadata Display | Image Tooltips". You can also toggle the setting at any time with the "T" key.
Two, you can also change the metadata that is displayed. There are several different displays for Aperture, Browser, viewer, list, etc. You can change what you see in the "View |Metadata Display |Customize..." dialog. Pay attention to the selection in the upper left that indicates which display you are changing. For your purpose, you probably want to replace "Version" with "File name" in one (or more) particular display.

This happens on the network call for:
    https://exchange.mydomain.com/owa/[email protected]/service.svc?action=GetWacIframeUrl&ID=-2&AC=1
I have tried with varying attachment file names and it consistently only happens if there is a capital in the extension.  For example:
    .pdf - Works
    .PDF - does not work
    .Pdf - does not work
    .pDf - does not work
It also seems to happen across document types, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, etc.  So that doesn't seem to be dependent either.
Anyone run into this before or is there a KB article or a setting that I am missing somewhere that explains how to resolve this? Thanks!

By default, there are 8 bindings for DOCX.  Do you see any other bindings available?

  • How can I get the Organizer in Elements 12to display the file name and date of the thumbnail images?

The View menu option to display the File Name is grayed out and thus I cannot display the file name.

    Hi,
You need to go to View menu and check Details as well.
You may even have to make the thumbnails larger by using the zoom slider at the bottom

  • MOH files are being cut off

My MOH is working correctly with my original audio file. However, I created and added a new file that is longer and the file restarts before it finishes. I know there must be some sort of timer, but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Larry

    Hi
I have the same problem, the only difference is that it is not working.
There are large files in MoH that work fine. But last week we added some small files for the attendant console.
These 2 files are cut off before the end. It are 2 files of 300 Kb and about 25 seconds. 2 seconds before the end, the loop rebegins.
All the timers are correct and all the other MoH files play out very well.
    What can be the problem?

  • When I go to "Share" and export the file is being cut off

I am working on a slideshow when I go to Share the choose Personal Computer, mpeg (wide format), and then when the file is saved it continues to cut off my slideshow. The slideshow is only about 3 minutes long and continues to cut off about :30 seconds, the file size is also small. The photos were converted to RGB and 100dpi.
Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. I have completely recreated the file, reduced the size, and nothing has worked.

The most common cause of material on the Timeline being truncated is the WAB (Work Area Bar) being set to less than the full Duration, and then Export Work Area being checked (radio button) in the Export/Share settings dialog. This will happen if one has been using the WAB to limit the area that is Rendered, or similar. This shows the WAB in an adjusted state:
If you have used the WAB, the easiest ways to reset it, or not use it, is to hit the \ [Backslash] key to zoom out to the full Timeline, and then find the little block in the middle of the WAB. Dbl-click on it to expand it completely. Or, in the Export/Share dialog, just click on the Full Project radio button.
Now, another reason for truncation can be limited HDD space. The full Project cannot be Exported/Shared. How much free space do you have on your destination HDD?
Last, you give the dpi of the images, which means nothing in video, but what are the pixel x pixel dimensions of the still images in the SlideShow? That can be very important.
Good luck, and please let us know if anything there helps,
    Hunt

  • Changing a File Name for a PC user to view

I am preparing a selection of images from a recent trip, to ultimately burn to a CD for a PC user.
    For example, I would like to be able to distinguish between images from Rome, Paris and London etc;
How do I go about renaming files to show the different location in order that they will show up when the PC user views the CD.
I do realise that a batch change is necessary but despite reading up on this, I am struggling to achieve the result I want.
A step by step procedure would be appreciated.
I found this process in iPhoto so much more intuitive, and I do not want to export to iPhoto when it seems possible to complete in A2.
My thanks in advance for any replies.

    Hello,
    You need to;
    1) group images per subject in albums (London, Rome, )
    2) Select an album and export Versions / Masters. Go to File>Export>Version or File>Export>Master
    3) In the "Export" dialog box, under name format, select "Custom Name with Counter".
    4) Under Custom Name, write your subject or event name, for example "London".
    5) Click on Export Version.
Aperture will then create image with incremental filenames such as London 001, London 002, London 003, etc...
    Repeat for your Rome album.

  • How to display imaged documents on EP (.prop file name extension)

    Hello All
Situation is, the business desires ability to display and optionally print multiple imaged invoices at one time. These images are stored on the Content Server as ".prop" files. On R/3 these files are displayed through the SD Viewer.
Since these imaged documents are'.prop' files, I'm wondering 1) if the portal can handle and 2) the best means to accomodate through the portal.
Can KM be utilized for this or ir webdynpro the best alternative?
Can the portal retrieve these documents and display and/or print?
Can they be converted to .pdf files?
Does anyone have suggestions as to what would be best procedure to accomodate this?
Or can anyone direct to some helpful links for this scenario.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
KM could be used to show files but reading your requirements I would go for Webdynpro development.
In the WD program you could use all the services you need like ADS for formatting to PDF and even KM services when needed.
    Good Luck,

  • File name extension removal

Hi. Have just upgraded to CS6 and have an issue with a script we use in production. The script exports a .ps file to a location but we are having to remove the .indd extension each time we use it (eg filename.indd.ps becomes filename.ps). The previous version of indesign we were able to save the file without it's .indd extension and when it was opened the extension stayed hidden. CS6 can save without the extension but when the file is open the extension is visible again. Any ideas? cheers

Firing up System Events seems like overkill (and it's quite slow to launch), especially as you're using text item delimiters anyway. You could just use:
    on changeExtension(oldPath, ext)
set saveTID to AppleScript's text item delimiters
              set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {":"}
set justName to text item -1 of oldPath
              if justName contains "." then
                        set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {"."}
set newPath to text 1 thru text item -2 of oldPath
              else
                        set newPath to oldPath
              end if
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to saveTID
              return newPath & "." & ext
    end changeExtension
Of course if you're happy to use some outside help, my ASObjC Runner is quicker and easier than System Events:
tell application "ASObjC Runner" to set newPath to file path from oldPath replacing extension ext

  • File Name Extension For Applications:

......on OS 9????????????? I am organizing lots of files by file extension. I put the similar files into their labeled folder. DMG files are in a "DMG" labeled folder. OS X's applications are in a folder called "APP" for example. But what is the application file extension for OS 9
    ???????????????????????????????

In an operating system that has its own method of finding content
that is expected to be in a location, but somehow later is not there,
issues can result and so it is generally not advisable to move files
created by the system into places you think (or hope) may make it
tidy or easy to find certain parts.
The system may find issue with helpful changes in file locations.
Just thought I'd let you know. And those files you see in a dual-boot
OS X & OS 9.1.+ computer that seem odd, while in OS 9? Don't get
the idea they are out of place. They're invisible in OS X, not in OS 9.
Some users put OS 9 on a separate partition or another hard drive
so as to not mess up these things; but that isn't really necessary.
What leads you to organize file types? Just curious. I found out some
time ago to be wary of moving items around. I will look into a strange
system folder, but do not move stuff around. It is a mysterious place.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Illustrator files not getting cut off in bounding box of InDesign

    Hello,
I have a page in illustrator full of vector images. I bring it into InDesign and crop them by putting each piece in it's own window. Then, I make a pdf. When I open the pdf in Illustrator it looks fine but when I hit the preview/artwork option, I can see that all the images from that original Illustrator doc with it. Is there any way to have just the vectors I have revealed through each InDesign window come in? The InDesign Files contains multiple pages and each window contain only ones part of that illustrator file...but all the other pieces in the illustrator file stay outside that cropped area of the window when brought into Illustrator again...anyone know how to avoid this?
    thanks
    babs

I think it should work the way she is doing it I would say this is a bug of either ID or Illustrator but you have a work around, however if she changes her mind or is asked to recrop she now has one lousy time.
The way she was doing it is the logical way and what the feature in ID was about.
Perhaps before hitting the preview artwork she can flatten the art or maybe by placing the the pdf in a blank Ai document instead of opening it would do the trick.
I see what she is saying, the solution is is simple when you get the pdf into AI select all the art and open the pathfinder and hit the second icon on the bottom row which is trim that will clear the art work outside of the bounding box now when you hit outline preview or select all the art you will see only what you have showing in ID.
But I would place this in a already existing or in a new document rather than opening it because if you accidentally save it without renaming it I think you might lose the ability to use that pdf to edit the clipping mask which is what you are creating in ID and it is translated that way in ID as well.
Unless of course you really want to lose the rest of the artwork for sure.

    ============
The OS X version of Lightroom (the app itself) has a bug with rendering panels that causes interior content to sometimes overextend the width of the column. It doesn't happen all the time, but it will happen from time to time.
To fix the issue, hover over the vertical divider between the work area and the panels, click, hold, and expand the panels all the way to the left until you stop. Then quit/relaunch Lightroom. The panel content should reset and be back in view.
