File name overwrites during Batch process

Mac, OSX, CS2. (and Windows CS2, CS3)
I've searched and read plenty of posts about this problem, but I don't see any solutions. Maybe a few workarounds. So, I'll try myself. This problem does not exist prior to CS2 for me.
I'm writing an action that involves opening a PDF, trimming, etc, then saving as a TIFF.
My result is one file, overwriting itself (with the contents of my source folder) with the name of the file I used to write the Action. I don't "touch" the file name in the "save as" dialog box, but of course I have to "save as", because I need a different file format than the source.
I've been using Actions/Batch/Droplets since they became available, maybe Photoshop 4. I just don't get this.
Thanks for your consideration.

        I would like to append a string containing the current UUT serial number to the base name of the report file. For example, uut_report.html becomes uut_report[SN000001].html. This setting is not available if I use NI BatchModel.seq as my process model.

  • File name collision during build that includes Report Generation toolkit. How to correct?

    When I switched to LV 8.6 (it's also in 8.6.1) I started getting a file name collision warning when building an installer that included the Report Generation toolkit. The executable works, but I don't like to leave warnings uninvestigated. I don't understand 1) why it's happening now and 2) what it's recommending for the fix. Here's part of the actual warning it gives.
    LabVIEW prevented a file name collision during the
    build. Duplicate file names cannot be copied to the same destination. You can
    rename files as part of the build process to avoid name conflicts.
    The following files were moved to a unique
    location:

    Hi GS,
    The architecture of the Report Generation Toolkit was changed in LabVIEW 8.6 to utilize LabVIEW Classes.  As such, there are some warnings during an EXE build because the class VIs have identical names.  Classes were not used in the toolkit in LabVIEW 8.5 and previous...that's why you didn't see any warnings during the build until now.
    Your EXE should still function properly, and you shouldn't have to change anything about your build.  The purpose of the warnings is to let you know that the duplicate-named VIs needed to be handled differently during the build.

  • Writing the filename as the prefix for bates or page numbering during batch process.  PRO 9

    While batch processing in Acrobat PRO 9 I am trying to insert the file name as the prefix automaticily either for page numbering or bates labeling.
    Not very good with javascript.  Any one have any ideas?
    Everyone is always asking to have the filename as the prefix and it starts to wear on you after 1000 exhibits.

    Don't know what script you're using, but this command will return the document's file name:
    this.documentFileName
    and this one will return the full path:
    this.path

  • Disable all informations (popups, alerts etc.) during batch process

    Hey! I'm using Acrobat 6.0 and the open all batch process to convert various office documents. For each document I have to agree to some alerts like "The document was changed. Do you want to save it" or "Acrobat can't save bookmarks beacause..." - or something like that... I think everybody can imagine what I mean and it doesn't matter what exactly is the content of these popups...
    My question: Is there a posibility to turn off all these messages? Maybe with some lines of JavaScript Code? Or pipe these messages to a text file instead of showing it on the screen?

    Thanks for your answer. I mean both things, although I haven't yet a JS function so I prefer the feature Batch Processing which is part of Acrobat 6.0
    Unfortunately the "Save warnings and errors in log file" preference doesn't work. I think the problem is, that these errors are special Batch Error. But this isn't what I mean...
    I will now describe exactly my problem. I'm using Acrobat 6.0 and MS Excel 2003. With several Makros I created special Excel files. With some (not all) tables in the Excel file I made a group (because I want to convert only these tables...)
    When I start the batch processing, the following messages appears (which I have to accept or deny... this is exactly what I want to disappear because with these messages I haven't any automatism or real "batch processing"....)
    1. After starting the batch process, first message...
    ::Acrobat PDFMaker::
    Acrobat PDFMaker have to save the document before continue. Should PDFMaker save this document and continue?
    2. ...and then after some seconds...
    ::Acrobat PDFMaker::
    'Name of my table' - Acrobat PDFMaker can make Tags, Bookmarks and Links only for tables with the printable area "Whole Table". Delete in the section "Page settings" the field "printable are" to avoid this problem.
    Would you like to continue and create a PDF File without Tags?
    3. .. and finally Excel also have a message for me:
    ::Microsoft Excel::
    Save all changes in 'Name of my Excel file'?
    After that the first PDF is successfully created. Then it happens something really strange. I can see in my Acrobat the little window with:
    'Name of my Excel File', 2 from 2
    (-a progress bar is shown with 50%-)
    Please wait. Adobe PDF is making.: 100%
    and then i can wait and wait and wait... But nothing more wil happens! :(
    Any idea to solve these problems?
    To implement the batch processing feature in an own JS function... How difficult is it? Are there any examples/experiences? And the most important thing: can i really disappear the popup messages?
    Thanks and sorry for my english... ;)

  • Opening and closing files very slowly -MAC - Batch processing broke illustrator...

    I have been batch processing between 15 and 30 thousand svg files over the past few days(simply centreing the orbjects on the art board mergring overlapping objects and saving as AI's) - the individual files are very small 20kb max. this was working fine for a while but suddenly illustrator now takes nearly 30 seconds to open any one individual file - svg or otherwise - and also when I look at illustrator in activity monitor as files are opened illustrator uses 100% of the CPU.
    I have no Idea if this is related to all of the batch processing Ive been doing lately but Its the last thing Ive done so...
    Also I have run disk utility on my machine uninstalled and reinstalled illustrator with no success..
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks!!

    Have you tried at least restarting AI or rebooting the computer?

  • Changing file name on a batch of files

    I have a new PC and have moved all of my photographs from an external HDD (Drive E) to my new Drive C.
    If I try to edit one of the moved photos, PE tries to find it in E:\, but of course cannot.
    I see how to change individual file names, but is there a way to change a batch of files (probably 500 or so)? To do them one by one would take for ever!

    I think the easiest way to do this is to move all the files back to drive E using Windows methods, so that they are in exactly the same folders they were in before and so PSE will reconnect the photo, and then using the PSE folder view, move them back to C. In the future, only move your photos using PSE methods, not Windows methods.
    Warning: if you have PSE6 (which I do not have), there are some issues regarding using folder view, and you should do a search here to read about them, I'm not sure you can explain these issues.

  • Odd quirk during Batch processing...

    When I do a batch process (File/automate/batch) it all works fine, provided I leave the cursor where the dialog box keeps popping up. If I move the cursor (to do something else and leave it running in the background) the batch stops until the cursor is back over the dialog box.
    I'm using CS5 on OSX SL. The plug-ins that this currently happens with are the Topaz ones, which require that I open them, do what I want, then close and save, and re-open for the next image. All rather tedious, but I don't see any workaround.

    Sounds like it might be a shortcoming of the plug-in, in which case its producers might be the only ones who could help you.
    Hopefully someone else has more insight into the matter, though.

  • How to reduce file size when using batch processing?

    I use File > Process Multiple Files to batch process photos to a smaller file size along with adding my watermark.  I've played with many different settings and no matter what I choose, I can't get my average file size to be less than about 200k.  However, when I've exported the same photos using iPhoto, I can get the file size to about half of that with no difference (to my naked eye at least) in quality.
    I definitely want to keep the height at 768 pixels so that needs to stay constant.
    My current settings in batch processing (average file size = 200 kb)
    Resize images with a height constraint of 768 pixels at 150dpi
    What I've tried:
    Resize at 72dpi (reduced file size by about 5kb)
    convert file to JPEG low quality (reduced file size by about 10kb)
    convert file to JPEG medium quality (not much difference in file size)
    I'm using PSE 10 on a Mac running Lion.
    Thank you in advance for your help!

    You should go with default settings of Optimizer.
    One difference between default settings of Optimizer and Reduce file size is that Optimizer does not guarantee a reduction in file size (if your Optimizer settings lead to an increase in file size, that's what you will get).
    With Acrobat 9, the default setting in Optimizer has an additional setting which would not do an image optimization that results in increase of file size. In that sense it would in most cases give a smaller file.

  • File name check during a BPM.

    Hi All,
    Can we configure the file sender/receiver adapter to just check whether a file with a particulat file name exists in a directory?
    I want to do this check at a particular stage in BPM. If the file name is detected, I would like to proceed in a BPM.
    Kindly assist.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
    You can use this code in the udf if the file directory is in the local file system
    public String fileExists(Container container) throws StreamTransformationException{
       String FilePath = "C:\\FileName.txt";
       String reslt = "false";
       File f = new File(FilePath);  // You can even get this FilePath through function parameter as var1
       if(f.exists)
          reslt = "true";
       else
          reslt = "false";
       return reslt;
    The function will return a string "true" if the file exists and "false" if not.

  • Acrobat asking for a PRN file two times during the process

    Hello all, let me explain this a little more :
    - i'm in MS Word (for exemple)
    - i want to convert the DOC into a PDF file
    - i use the "print --> Adobe PDF" or the "convert to PDF" icone (no matter)
    - Acrobat ask me to name the PDF file he will create. I answer
    - then he starts to convert
    - he stops and ask me to name a PRN file (???). I answer
    - he stops again, and ask me to name another PRN file (name must be different from the first one). I answer
    - then, he creates the PDF, and the 2 PRN files (???)
    The point is, when i have 20 PDF to create, he stops 40 times... i have no idea why he's doing this.
    Of course, the box "print to file" is not checked.
    the computer is a Windows XP SP3, with Office 2003 and Acrobat 8 pro from the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium.
    It is a shared computer. Everything worked fine before, but someone should have done something wrong on the computer... i do not find what.
    Anyone can help ? ;o)

    This is interesting because it is not the box which Acrobat puts up.
    That has a title of "Save PDF file as" and a "Save as type" of "PDF
    files".
    The box you are seeing is exactly the one you get in Word when
    printing to a file (not in other programs). So something is making
    Word think it is printing to file - and as long as it thinks that you
    won't get a PDF.
    It may be worth looking in the Printers Control Panel and checking the
    PORT shown for the Adobe PDF printer. The port should be "Adobe PDF".
    If the port is set to "FILE", you will see this effect.

  • PSE9: prompted for "save as" during batch processing??

    In PSE 9, my process multiple files seems to have stopped working. I am trying to batch convert some CR2 files to Jpeg. When I try to run it I get prompted during the convert operation to "save as" for each individual file (and the jpeg isn't an option). This used to work, anyone know what changed?
    Thanks for the help,
    Jamie

    Raw files work best as already open images in the Editor.
    Try using open files (File à Open) then select your batch of raw files using Shift+click or cmd+click to select individual files. Wait for Camera Raw to open and click the button Select All (top left) then apply your saved default settings to all the selected images. Keep them all selected, choose 8 bits/channel and click Open Images (towards bottom right) to send the selected images into the Editor.
    After the Editor opens go to the top menu bar click File >Process Multiple Files.
    Set the dropdown for your source to Opened Files then for the destination, check same as source or a new folder.
    At the bottom of the dialog under File Type choose the jpeg quality from the dropdown e.g. Max, High, Medium or Low.
    Click OK and leave the program to run (this can take a bit of time as raw files are usually large). When finished close the Editor and return to your folder to see your Jpegs next to your raw files. Or go to your new destination folder if preferred.

  • Overwriting in batch processing

    Switching from Audition 3 to CS6 has been problematic for me, in the Batch Conversion department.
    In Audition 3, I could open many hundreds of WAV files, convert them in mp3, and the processor would then erase the old WAV versions.
    Now, in CS6, I check the "Same as source file location", as well as "Overwrite existing files".
    But that last one seems to simply...  not work!  After the conversion, I end up with both the new mp3 files, but also the old WAV files that I dont want.
    What gives?  I know this is kind of a particular fonction, but anyone else can reproduce this problem?
    Thanks

    Maybe...  But my problem is:  why would checking that same option in CS6 would do the opposite of 3.0?
    "Overwrite existing files" used to "Overwrite the ORIGINAL file", with no consideration of its original filename.  If I use the Batch Converter to actually convert from .WAV to .mp3, that same Batch Converter should be smart enough to know the resulting file won't have the same extension than the "existing file", the one that it offers me to erase!  That's the way it works with all the other audio production software I use, including AA 3.0...
    Weird!

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes during batch process

    Hi,
    I got about 100 pictures. Trying to: resize+save for web...
    Photoshop converts few files and...crashes.
    I presume that's a configuration problem - neither scratch disk nor memory should not be the cause although here are some parameters:
    My mac:
    Mac OS X (10.6.4)
    2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    HDD 320 GB (289 free space)
    Pictures res: 5616x3744px
    Picture format: .jpg
    Has anyone solved problem like this (or similar)?

    I have the same problem, cs5 crashes when I start batching files (raw to jpg save in my case). Sometimes after 10 sometime after 200... it's really weird. And yes it does close the files with the action I use... The crashes are really bad as it does something like a shut down which closes all programms, this also prevents crash report to open! It crashes also when I do a batching on opened files. I installed all updates and everthing, even reinstalled the programm, still the same problem :(. I still have cs4 on my mac and there batching works perfectly fine without any problems! Also for anything else cs5 works perfectly well, only batching causes me headaches.

  • How can I retrieve file name being processed in Batch

    Hi All
    I want to retrieve the current filename that is being processed by a batch, e.g. A1~Texas~Actual~Jan-2010~RR.txt
    I can do this in various event scripts that have the strFile parameter but I need to do it in the BatchAction event script and cannot see how I go about it. I can see various objects in the API guide that should help me get at it but can't get it working.
    Has anyone done this before or got any pointers for how I can do this?
    Many thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Tony
    I have been able to retrieve this using the PstrFileName property in various event scripts, particularly those where strFile is a parameter and then used API.DataWindow.Utilities.fParsePath to trim that and provide just the file name. However thsi does not work in the BatchAction event script.
    I have found a property in the Batch Loader section of the supplementary API called PstrFileTitle but my VB is not strong enough to work out how to get at it. From what I can gather I would need to supply the BatchID (plus other parameters) to another function that would return this into a recordset and then read from the recordset (??) but I am not sure how to go about this.
    To give you some background, what I am trying to achieve is writing to a log file pre and during batch processing where the log file name should use the source file's name, e.g. 'SourceFile.txt' will write to SourceFile.log. The issue is that for batch processing we have to rename 'SourceFile.txt' s 'A1~Texas~Actual~Jan-2010~RR.txt' and I previously tried to use the PvarTempNC variables to store the source file name only to find that I could use that in the BatchAction event script!
    If you can point me in the right direction that would be great.
    Thanks
    Stuart
