File name truncation warning on Save for Web (For Macintosh browsers?) (CS2)

Image (Line drawing). Save for Web (*gif). Receive following warning:
"Some names of the files being saved will be truncated to 31 characters for compatibility with Macintosh browsers. To change your filename compatibility options, click the Optimize pop-up menu, choose Output Settings, and select Saving Files."
I could not find the Optimize pop-up menu. Therefore, I did not do this step.
After save, I simply went to the appropriate folder and changed the file name to what I originally wanted (i.e., essentially correcting the truncation).
Big deal or not? Will all be OK?
Thanks in advance. From a novice.

You can probably safely turn off that Macintosh compatibility setting now.
It's a bit tricky to find those settings...  Here's how.
First, in the Save For Web dialog, hit the little icon at the upper-right and choose Edit Output Settings.
Then change the selector to Saving Files and look for the settings you want to change as shown here:
I captured the above from PS CS6, but I think they're substantially the same.

    Make sure that '''''Print to File''''' isn't selected in the native print dialog box ''(see screenshot below)'' middle-right, and make sure your Printer is selected at the top of that dialog box.

  • Word cannot open this document.  The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document,  or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example,\ /).

    I recently upgraded to a new Macbook Air running Lion, from my 2007 white Macbook running Snow Leopard.  I had Office for Mac 2004 on the 2007, but had to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 to be compatible with Lion on the Air.  Now when I try to open my documents on the Air that were saved under Office 2004 on the old computer, I get the following message: Word cannot open this document.  The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document,  or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example,\ /).
    Any suggestions?  Thank you.

    Ha,ha,ha.....I figured it out.  But for anyone else who's having this problem, it seems that while Office 2004 allowed dates in this format: 00/00/00, Office 2011 doesn't like it at all.  I just changed the format in the document names to 00-00-00 and all is well.  Documents are opening beautifully!

  • File name used by plug-in for saving the image file.

    I have a program that creates a web page that has an object tag with a call to a program and that program delivers a PDF file.  When my users want to save that image the name of the image is a random name.  Is there any way to make the plug-in, Adobe, use the meta tag Title or any other infromation that my program can provide, as image (file)  name to be used for saving the image. (the initial suggested name)?  I really appreciate your help.

    One option is to rename the file after it's been exported using Windows File I/O API.

  • Passing file name variable to the save as dialog

    Hi:
    I have an event listener that checks if the user has selected the file/"save as" menu and brings up another dialog window asking for some additional information about the client and job. I would like to pass a variable from this custom dialog to the file name field in the standard Save As dialog.
    Anybody have an idea how I can do this?
    I am using inDesign3 on Windows XP. I am using VB for the scripting.
    thanks!!
    Dan

    Hi: thanks for looking at it.
    Actually, I am not calling the save as in my script, the user is clicking on Save As and the event listener I have in the start up folder is picking that up. The event listener calls up a script that asks users to fill in a couple of fields about the specific job and once they do that and click ok, the default inDesign "save as" dialog is brought up. So that is my question -- how to pass the information from my dialog to the standard "save as" dialog (as the file name of the file).
    The event listener is of the beforeInvoke on the Save As... menu.
    Any idea?
    thanks!!

  • Need dynamic File name in the Schedule link for FTP Destination

    Hello,
    We are using Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise formerly XML Publisher
    I am trying to drop a .csv file into an FTP location using the Schedule link for a report I have created. I need to run this program everyday. Is there a way I can have it drop a file with the date stamp? Currently when you hit Schedule and select FTP destination I need to specify the path of the file and I am not sure if it can accept dynamic parameters?
    Can it?
    I want to be able to specify "SomethingDate{sysdate}".csv
    Cheers
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay
    Im pretty sure it can not do that at the moment, not thru the scheduler UI.
    What you could do thou, is set the report up as a bursting report - you're not going to split the report but the bursting engine can be fooled. With that method you can specify the file name to be used via sql

  • How Does The Browser Know The "File Name" field in the "Save As" dialog

    Hi!
    I have a servlet called co.com.SomeStaff who reads a binary file from the server an sends it to the breowser.
    The Browser opens the "Save As" Dialog whith the value "co.com.SomeStaff" in the File name field, but and I need the name "SomeBinariFile.exe" instead.
    How can I change that value?
    Thanks All.

    Use <%

  • How to dynamically define a file name and its path in a web application

    Hi, I want to create a simple web application that reads from an XML file and displays the data back to the user. The xml file is created independent of my application on the same machine that the Application Server runs. How can I define my xml file name and/or path to be independent of my code and not hard-coded in my application?

    By an external configurationfile? That can be a propertiesfile, a xml file, an ini file, a plain vanilla txt file, etcetera.

  • How to find ATL file name and timestamp of importing for existing DI code?

    A tester is not sure about the version of the ATL code which was imported into his local repository. Is there anyway he can get the imported ATL file name and/or timestamp from the repository or a log file? I searched in both places but couldn't find any information. Did I miss something? This is DI 11.5.3.
    Thanks,
    Larry

    I don't think the information about the source of how the object was created in repo is maintained anywhere, like this version of object was created from ATL or from Designer etc
    but different versions of objects are stored in AL_LANG and its language in AL_LANGTEXT table, if you have not compacted the repo, you may get the last modified time from AL_ATTR table, try getting the data from these table and see if you get any info that is useful for you

  • UDF to capture the source file name or the source folder for mapping

    Hi All,
    i have 2 files -  File1 from File2 from 2 different folders- single comm channel FTP (FCC). i have to pass a constant A and B respectively to a field in target structure.
    my options are -
    either create a new field in source str populating different constants and  then map to the target str
    or a udf to get the source file name or the source folder so that i can map the constant using the value mapping/FixValue mapping.
    please suggest. thanks.
    rajib

    Hi,
    please use the UDF to determine the file name. Then based on file name either pass A or B to your target field.
    The code is as given below. Just tweak the code to pass either A or B as per your requirement.
    public String G_GetFileName(Container container) throws StreamTransformationException{
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    String ourSourceFileName = conf.get(key);
    return  ourSourceFileName;

  • My Script Saves My Files In Incremental file names but can't save to original folder?

    hi everyone,
    so after a few hours of browsing the forum, was able to scotch tape this script together so it allows me to save my files in incremental file numbers.
    - i create an action to edit the file and then in that action, i run this script x-amount of times.
    - it works as i tested it a few times.
    but here are my questions that i can't figure out.
    1. right now it says to a folder that i have to designated. how would i edit this code so it'll save in the same folder as the file i am editing?
    2. so far it saves as a jpeg. does anyone know the syntax to use for a gif?
    and if you're kind enough...let's say i have an animated gif file, i can't edit it in photoshop so i have to use imageready but how do i replicate the above in imageready since we're on the same topic.
    THANKS!!! code is below:
    // This script will save the active document to a folder with an incremental sufix
    // Change the options below to match your needs
    var saveFolder = new Folder( 'C:\\test' );
    var saveExt = 'jpg';
    var saveSufixStart = '_';
    var saveSufixLength = 3;
    jpgSaveOptions = new JPEGSaveOptions();
    jpgSaveOptions.embedColorProfile = true;
    jpgSaveOptions.formatOptions = FormatOptions.STANDARDBASELINE;
    jpgSaveOptions.matte = MatteType.NONE;
    jpgSaveOptions.quality = 8;
    // End of user options
    //==========================================
    function zeroPad ( num, digit ){
       var tmp = num.toString();
       while (tmp.length < digit) { tmp = "0" + tmp;}
       return tmp;
    var docName = decodeURI ( activeDocument.name );
    docName = docName.match( /(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/ ) ? docName = docName.match( /(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/ ) : docName = [ docName, docName, undefined ];
    var saveName = docName[ 1 ]; // activeDocument name with out ext
    var files = saveFolder.getFiles( saveName + '*.' + saveExt );// get an array of files matching doc name prefix
    var saveNumber = files.length + 1;
    //alert("New file number: " + zeroPad( saveNumber, saveSufixLength ));
    var saveFile = new File( saveFolder + '/' + saveName + '_' + zeroPad( saveNumber, saveSufixLength ) + '.' + saveExt );
    activeDocument.saveAs( saveFile, jpgSaveOptions ,true ,Extension.LOWERCASE);

    ImageReady? Which version of Photoshop do you use?
    1. right now it says to a folder that i have to designated. how would i edit this code so it'll save in the same folder as the file i am editing?
    You need to amend the line
    var saveFolder = new Folder( 'C:\\test' );
    accordingly.
    2. so far it saves as a jpeg. does anyone know the syntax to use for a gif?
    There are examples on the Forum, for example
