  • [BUG ?] PSE Organizer - Sort by file size

    Hello,
When trying to sort by file size with PSE Organizer, it only takes into account the recently imported pictures.
I have recently migrated my catalog from PhotoShop Album V1.0 to PSE Organizer without problem (or at least I solve all of them, thanks to John !).
Now, when I ask all pictures with a file size higher than 2000 kb, I only have the files that I recently imported... Is there any solution to also include all pictures (I paid attention not to select the recent album, I show all pictures - but maybe I do something else wrong ??)
    Thanks,
    Kamayana

Interesting.  When you do Edit > Update Thumbnail, PSE rereads all the metadata from the file except for keyword tags. So your hypothesis that the file size information was not converted from the PSA catalog sounds reasonable.  Just one of many bugs in the conversion process.
Yes, EDIT > UPDATE THUMBNAIL, that's what I done (sorry, I am french and I downloaded the french version, so my translation are sometimes erroneous).
Anyway, it solve my problem, thanks to you for helping me, you finally helped me to be curious and to search the problem.

  • Deleting files in PSE-organizer

    Hi,
I have 2 questions concerning the handling of picture files in the PSE-organizer.
When I want to reduce a large amount of pictures (800 and more) i.e. after holidays I use the organizer to get a quick overview of the shots which are immediately to be deleted.
Unfortunately, every single deleting process has to be confirmed when the intention is to remove the pictures both from the catalogue and the harddrive. You have to activate a checkbox every time! I would like to know whether it is possible to suppress that message and checkbox action.
The second problem I have is that sometimes (not every time!) when I delete a couple of pictures within the organizer this action will move the view to the very first picture again so you have to scroll down to the last chosen pictures again. For example I have 700 pictures, reach pictures 511, 512 and 516 which I delete then the organizer would do that but jump back to picture 1. So I have to scroll down to picture 517 again to resume my selections of good and bad material. That can be very soul-killing with 700 pictures and maybe 200 to delete ;-)
Does anybody know how to help me with these 2 problems.
Thank you in advance for your support.
    Kind regards from Germany,
    Marco

It's not possible to set a default for the checkbox (poor design by Adobe).  However, here's a workaround:
Mark the files you want to delete as hidden using Edit > Visibility > Mark As Hidden (ALT+F2).  When you're one, review all the hidden files by doing View > Show Only Hidden Files. Then do Edit > Select All and delete all of them at once.
If you're already using hidden files for other purposes, you could use a tag instead, though it wouldn't be quite as fast to drag a tag to  photo as typing ALT+F2 (but still faster than waiting for the interminably slow Delete dialog box).

  • Managing Different Photos w/identican file names

Issue:  One computer, one copyPSE 7, two near identical cameras (Fuji FinePix) which generate overlapping file names.
PSE 7 when  it encounters a repeated file name announces that the photo already exists and therefore will not store the new photo.
I'm sorry to be soooo lame.  I'm sure the answer is presented in the normal operation of PSE 7 but it eludes me.
I've only recently recognized the problem and am now also faced with somehow identifying and up-loading photos not added to Organizer over perhaps four years of use with copies of PSE from 4 through 7.
Can you offer any advice at all.  I'm desperate.
    Thanks,
    ibbobby

The easy solution is to change the names as you download. I do that on all my saver photos anyway because "2009-Yosemite 1732" is much more meaningful to me when I see it than IMG_1732 is. If the cameras are setting the same image numbers in the file name, that is usually easily changed in the camera's menu.

  • PSE6 - sort by file name

How to sort by file name in the Organize view of PSE6.
I tried Display->Folder Location. But there are still two pictures (#15 and #18 out of 130) which are shown at the end of the view.
More sort options in the thumbnail view would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Hagen

Not sure I understand what zou mean here Hagen. Do you because the
images are in a different folder they don't end up in the right sequence?
Put requests into the Feature Request area by the way. Forum

  • File Name of Image Displayed in PSE 8 does not match File Path Name in Windows 7

I recently got a new computer  .I upgraded on my Windows XP computer from PSE 5.0 to PSE 8.0.  I then moved my files to the new computer running Windows 7 following the instructions I received on an earlier post.  I copied the catalog folder and the picture folders on the C drive from the old to the new computer (catalog folder to location specified in System Info;  images to My Pictures).   Everything appears to have worked beautifully without having to go through a big Reconnect struggle.  The organzer appears to have found all of the images and I can bring them up in Editor as well.  However, when I look at the properties of a given image the full file name displayed is what it was on XP, i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Pictures\<folder name>\<file name> rather than the path as it is in Windows 7, i.e., C:\Users\<user name>\My Pictures\<folder name>\<file name>.  I am new to Windows 7 so maybe I am missing something unique to Windows 7 but I would appreciate any information.

You're observing the special folder aliases that Vista and Windows 7 create to preserve backward compatibility (Microsoft keeps changing how and where users' documents are stored).   On Windows 7:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Pictures
is a special kind of alias to the folder:
    C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures
(And C:\Users<user name>\My Pictures is yet another kind of Windows 7 special alias, a "library", that includes the folder C:\Users<user name>\Pictures.)
Whenever an application like PSE refers to the old location, C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Pictures, Windows automatically translates that under the covers to C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures.   But Windows Explorer is configured to prevent you from accessing C:\Documents and Settings\ interactively -- only programs like PSE are able to do that.  Microsoft wants users of Windows Explorer to always use the "new" name,  C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures.
In your case, your catalog contained the old XP folder paths, and Windows is automatically translating them on the fly to the new paths, unbeknownst to PSE.
Like most such backward-compatibility hacks, this does not work perfectly.  PSE thinks that the old path and the new path refer to two completely different folders.  I'm not positive, but I think there are opportunities for PSE to get confused by that.   When you import new photos, they will get recorded in the catalog under the new folder paths.
In my previous recommendation for how to move to the new computer, I had assumed that you would most likely be changing user names and photo locations, and thus you would be forced to do a Reconnect, and you wouldn't have encountered this.  If I had thought you weren't going to need a Reconnect, I would have recommended not using this method but rather using Backup/Restore (my first recommended method)  -- my bad.
It may well be that your current catalog and PSE will work well enough.   But there is at least a small risk that down the road PSE will get confused by the old and new folder names.  The easiest way to avoid that risk would be to start over and use the Backup/Restore method for moving your catalog, whch is more effort on your part.  But because I don't fully understand the risk, I can't tell you whether you should be worried about it.   Definitely do some testing: editing, importing and editing new photos, use Display > Folder Location view, try renaming and moving old photos to new folders, try the Photo Downloader, etc.

  • Photo file names not seen in PSE 12 editor while editing

How can I see the file name of a photo while editing in Photoshop Element 12?

Thanks for the answer.  However the name shows only when in the Expert mode not the Quick or Guided modes.
I note that in the Expert mode only the relative size of the image on screen is shown as a percent in the lower right corner.  That is where I am used to see that in the PSE 9.

  • Attaching Explorer File Name in Organizer View

In PS5 is there any way to get the explorer file name to appear with each thumbnail in organizer view ?

In Organizer Preferences (General), check Show File Names in Details. Then
in Folder View, check Details and adjust the size of the thumbnails so that
four or less are displayed in one row.

  • PSE v4 Display file name in Organiser

Is there any way of displaying the file name under the thumbnails in the organizer. I would prefer to see the file name in place of the date and time or caption.

you can see the name in addition to the date by going to Edit > Preferences > General and checking show File Name in Details. Be sure that your thumbnail size is large enough - adjust the slider to the right if necessary.

  • Organizer File Name Mass Change - Manual Rearrange Capability?

I used to use Bridge 6 to mass change file names. I could drag files into desired rearranged locations and then rename the batch in any order I wanted. Elements Organizer does not seem to have that capability. Am I missing a simple trick or did this program go backwards in capability? I bought Photoshop Element 12 ONLY for the Organizer!!!!

I'll be short. The Organizer is not for you. Or you are not for the organizer. It's a pity you did not use the trial version to check this before buying the software.
Now for some of your practical questions:
    meteorman69 wrote:
I do prefer to rename my files and move them to folders of my choice such as Family Photos 2013, Family Photos 2014, Work Photos, Comic Book Related Images etc... I don't manipulate the images themselves, just filenames.
Nothing wrong with that, but that's possible in the organizer, even if it's best done with a browser like Bridge.
I can't stand generic filenames given by cameras or applications so I give them meaningful names like a date sequence and location like 20140504ZooVisit001 or some such name.
Did you consider using captions instead ? They are much more flexible, readable and searchable in a database system.
If I have 50 sequentially, generically named photos in a folder and I have opened the folder with Organizer (Bridge) and I want to re arrange let's say Image1, image 2, image 3, image 4, etc... to change the sequence of photos or groups of photos to image3, image 4, image2, image 1.
In Bridge I could drag photos about within Bridge to my desired sequence THEN I could highlight the group and rename them sequentially with a totally new name for permanent file storage. It's really a simple desire.
In the organizer, you can select the photos in a subfolder, or from any kind of complex multicriteria request, and group them in an 'album'. It's just like a 'playlist'. You can order them manually. You can select them and assign a common starting name with an order number suffix. Very basic.
You asked about 'compatibility'. With the above features, the organizer can move, rename, delete files or folders. It can 'write metadata to files', which is not only to keep the keywords, ratings, captions, notes in its database, but also to write them in the files themselves, so that Bridge, or explorer or finder can read them. It can hold many other information like stacks, albums or version sets. But Bridge and the explorer/finder are not compatible to receive such advanced information.

  • How do I get the Organizer to show file names?

I'm lost and confused in Photoshop 13. How do i get the file names to be displayed in Organizer? I've chosen to keep the older version of the "grid" display and miss having the file names showing. I've searched the online manual but can't seem to find what I need!

And as a follow-up question, how do I get the font to be larger in the Organizer. It's all so tiny!
If you are on Windows, you can set the font size  from the control panel, display options. You can set the text font to 125% or 150%.
That will change the display for other applications too (not for the editor...)

  • The Organizer – Using file names as captions in SlideShow

    I am using Vista.
I just switched from using ZoomBrowser to The Organizer and I have a collections of thousands of photos. In ZoomBrowser I could show the file names (which I used to describe the slide) at the bottom of the slides during a slide show. I have not found such a feature in The Organizer. Is there one?
Otherwise, is there a method whereby I can do a batch import of the file names into the captions in the photos in The Organizer? I have the Flash Rename software which I can probably use to place the text of the file names in the Details of the Properties of the photo files.
    Please help,
    CarlosWA

There is no similar feature in imOvie that I know of.

  • PSE Organizer tags to file metadata?

PSE Organizer tags are not automatically included in the picture files' metadata.
I have observed that tags are transferred to file metadata if you do the following:
    1. Tag the native picture file using the organizer
    2. Create and save an edited copy of our native file, using the editor
Result: Organizer tags are included in the file metadata, for both the edited copy AND the native file.
Is there any way to tell PSE to automatically include tags in the file metadata, or second best; is there a way to do this manually "en gross" (i.e. for a large selection of files in one operation)?
    Finn

File>Write tag and metadata information to photos write the tag, GPS and other info to the photo file.

  • PSE8 File Names in Organizer

I have duplicate file names of different images taken with different cameras and stored in different directories.  Can I set a switch in Organizer to allow import of files with the same name into Organizer?  As it works now it will only import the first instance of the file name.

  • Elements Organizer 8. Alphabetic sort on file name

I have been advised to create an Album and then select Album Order.  When I do this it still sorts in Date (Newest First) order. I have check Preferences are set to sort Albums alphabetically not manually.  Can anyone help me to get my selection sorted in alphabetic order on file name?

    Brian
I have tried your link to the ‘feedback.photoshop.com’ thread but get a message ‘Page Not Found’.  If you do get through my comment would be as follows:
It is sad that Organizer is not able to sort a key selection of images from multiple source files into alphabetic order by file name.  It can sort by ‘Date (Newest First)’ and ‘Date (Oldest First)’ so it should not be that hard to make it sort alphabetically.
When images are loaded into Albums a new sort ‘Album Order’ is offered, and the wording of the ‘Options – Preferences - Keyword Tags & Albums’ for Albums, supported by the Help description, gives hope of an alphabetic sort.  However this is misleading.  It says  Alphabetic or Manual but it should say Album order or Manual.  Album order will only be alphabetic if the source images have been pre-sorted into alphabetic sequence by originating in the same folder and are then imported in Folder View.  If imported to the Album as thumbnails in Thumbnail View they will remain in the sequence of the thumbnails and even if Alphabetic is selected in the Options they will not be sorted alphabetically.
An alphabetic sort would enhance any future release version of Optimize.
    Best wishes
    Mike
