File offline

I'm having trouble with files showing up offline. I'm not sure if this is because I inadvertantly imported photos from my amera to a non-library location and then deleted the originals -- or if when I changed computers over and copied the library over, something happened. I do know that it is looking for my old hard drive to find the master file. But I'm pretty sure that I have always kept my photos in the aperture library file. When I go to reconnect the file using the "manage reference file" option, I can't select the library itself, so I don't know what else to do. Any ideas???

If your missing files are really managed files, they still should be inside the Aperture Library Package.
BTW. what is your Aperture Version and your MacOS Version.
Do you know the approximate date when you imported those files? And how many missing files are we talking about? Is it feasible to track them down individually by searching for them? Inside an Aperture 3 library is a folder "Masters", that contains the master files. You might copy this file to an external drive, or wherever you can find enough space, and then try to locate one of your missing masters inside this folder. Inspect the file and see if it is maybe corrupted.

Is there a way to create pdf files offline?

Certainly, that's what Acrobat does. (But not Adobe's PDF Pack).
Note that you will need an internet connection to install Acrobat and (so far as I know) every month to check your license. So it's no use if you will be off net.

  • Reading (and searching, use of TOC and index) Acrobat files offline

OK - I have tried several things in effort to read PDFs offline.
The 'tools' that allow me to access these files PDFReader Pro and GoDocs are incapable of doing searches, use TOC, and index.. It is basically a picture of a PDF. They also present it in the linear form where I need to actually scroll the 343 PAGES to get to the information I want to read mid-way into the document.
Is there a realistic tool that actually properly presents PDF files offline and allows it to be used as it was intended? OOPS - correction Safari cant display this right either.... never mind ....
    Thanks

I removed an erroneous statement that safari can properly display PDFs - it can't provide search, index/toc accesses. Bogus!

On a possibly related note, see http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20004258-263.html?tag=mncol;txt for a way to ADD stuff to the TOC. I'm just passing this along, I haven't tried it.

  • Taking zip, pdf and excel file Offline

    Hi All,
The App has fixed number of zip, pdf and excels (10, 15, 5) files which periodically gets updated, using the updated feature the app updates all the files currently.
Is there a way where the App can replace all the updated files offline from the server "offline synnchronization" .
    srinath

Yes, but it's very complicated and requires a set of custom-made scripts.
The easiest way of doing it is by converting the Excel file to a plain-text
file (like a CSV file) and then attach that file to the PDF and use it as
the data source for the script that populates the fields.

  • Render File Offline; Project in a Loop

I was rendering a complex part when FCX stopped and said a render file was offline or something. It was so many steps ago, I forget exactly.
Eventually, I had to force quit FCX because it "froze up" on me. I went back to the autovault and got a slightly earlier version before all this started but now if I try to render that same part, FCX stops with the message "La Cie 250/Sequence 2 Op-FIN-0000015d" Render file offline. I had to force quit again because the program won't let me go anywhere.
Am I going to have to trash preferences, repair permissions and restart again? Just had to do this a few days ago. If so, what is the problem? I try not to have too many apps open at a time, do things one at a time, etc.
    Any help MOST WELCOME!!

See if you can play the material using Opt-P without
    rendering.
    Sorry. . . . .what does "using Opt-P" mean?
Look in the capture scratch folder in
column view and see if there are preview windows for
all your clips. If any show up with a generic icon or
the preview is a generic QuickTime icon the file may
    be corrupted.
There seem to be files all over the place in the folders where I designated what was to be the destination for the scratch disk. (I wasn't 100% sure about how to set up the files for the scratch disk because I had to transfer all the project files from one external hard drive to another when the first drive died. I was so afraid of losing all the work that I did what I thought best at the time. Have been a little afraid something like this might rear its head.)
Tom, I don't even know how to begin explaining to you what is where in that external hard drive.
This may be too much for a discussion group question.

  • Taking data file offline and online

When I take a data file offline, which SCN get frozen? Is it the stop scn in the control file or is it the checkpoint scn in the data file header?

    Hi,
When I take a data file offline, which SCN get frozen? Is it the stop scn in the control file or is it the checkpoint scn in the data file header?
Stop SCN is the SCN which gets recoreded in control file when datafile is backup mode or datafile is offline.
Its checkpoint scn in Data File Header. As you the STOP SCN is going to Updated wehn ever there are changes with respective to the datafile.. as it implicitly says that STOP SCN, wit respective Offline datafile will not Update, until next scn generates (until the data file make online)

  • Master Files Offline??

I am using aperture 3 and OSX 10.7.2 When I got aperture, I imported my iPhoto Library.
I noticed any pictures taken before that time, there is a icon in each picture - which means the Master Files is offline.
When i try to delete those pictures - I get the error - Master Files Offline - Some master files are stored on volumes that are offline: *My Mac
"My Mac" is my internal drive and is online. When I right click one of the photos, click locate referenced file - The path that aperture think it is - is indeed the actual path. So I navigate through the tree and locate the file (same exact path) and click Reconnect or Reconnect All - and then that one photo is now linked and all is well.
The problem is - I am guessing I have at least 1000 if not more photos with this condition. Anyone know how to fix this on a larger scale? Any new photos taken are fine -
THank you anyone who knows this in advance!
My Mac is online .... its like there is some old pointer that is gone so the software thinks its offline - until i relink it

The easiest way to reconnect many masters at once would be to create a smart album that contains only the images that need reconnecting:
File -> New -> Smart Album
    then add a rule:
File status -> Offline (or Missing)
Then select all image in that album and select File -> reconnect master

  • Making files Offline

When I archive video in Final Cut Pro I make files offline by choosing Modify> Make offline. The Final Cut Express HD 3.5 manual says to do the same thing but it isn't showing in the drop down menu. Any advice?

OK. I guess we should use our FCP editing stations when we may want to go back to edit the original projects and FCexpress when one time editing is more likely. Too bad this would have made life so much easier if they both worked the same.
Thanks again for your help on this. I work for a newspaper that is trying to get up to speed on video production and we are learning as we go. We can't afford to buy FCP on every editing station with revenues being so low right now and thought FCE would be a good substitute. I guess it still will but with limitations.

  • ProRes 422 MOV files offline in Adobe Media Encoder 2014 (but online in Premiere)

The question is NOT about exporting PreRes files from a Windows PC, which is what I keep finding in my searches.
My client gave me ProRes 422 MOV files. I imported them into Premiere Pro CC 2014. I could see and edit them fine. But when I export them via Adobe Media Encoder, they appear to be offline. BTW, other media sources exported fine, such as the PNGs and JPGs I cut to. (I don't think it matters, but I'm attempting to make h.462 mp4s, which I do all the time, and have done with ProRes sources before using CC 2014.)
I tried exporting a short video clip (using same ProRes 422 source) from Premiere and it worked fine. Why not Adobe Media Encoder? I need to encode batches of videos with ProRes sources overnight, so exporting from Premiere is not a good option.
I'm on a Win 7 PC and I have QT Pro and iTunes (which I think also installs codecs).

Everything seems to be working fine now, though I don’t know why. I did update my iTunes (which I’d rather not even have installed on my PC because I never use it, but removing it seems to mess things up). I’ll also make sure to keep my QT updated. I thought it was because I upgraded to the paid version a couple months ago hoping to fix a similar problem, but again, it seemed to get fixed when I updated iTunes.
Thanks for getting back to me!

  • Flash CS4 Help File Offline What Happened to Tag Defintions Showing UP?????

Ok I know I can set the help system to browse offline however
this doesn't work correctly for any less then ActionScript 3. When
you highlighted a word in the past such as "null" it use to pull up
the word and the info in all the books. Now all I see is a web
browser that doesn't do this for me. I mean who sits there at
adobe's end and thinks up of ways to slow someone down like this??
How can you remove the core help quick linking from the program.
Number 1 not everyone is on AS3 and some of us still have to update
    AS2 code.
Bigspace ships has an air application that installed AS3 flex
reference but again useless unless you are on AS3. Has anyone found
another way to get this old school functionality to work on
    CS4???

Jay Armstrong here. I’m one of the writers who works on
    the Flash docs.
Regarding this comment and the many others in other threads
that have added important details about the issues with the help
workflow, and in particular the ActionScript help workflow: We hear
your pain and we are working to implement solutions to these
    issues.
I understand that this new help workflow is more painful than
in CS3 when you had the Help right in its own panel in the product.
    Here’s some background:
The implementation of Help within the Flash Help panel prior
to CS4 required that *all* the Help files be installed on the local
drive with the product, resulting in some issues that we tried to
address in CS4. Including Help on the installation disc caused
    issues including:
    - Required that Help be completed much earlier for
    localization and end-game testing.
    - Resulted in static Help files that had been completed early
in the development cycle, sometimes not accounting for last minute
    UI or other changes.
    - A long install process.
    - Crowded the installation disc.
These aren't meant to be full explanations of why we made the
changes, but just some background as to some of the things we were
thinking about. Clearly the decisions we came to weren't the right
ones for many users. We are intent on making things better.
Moving Help online makes it possible to update Help on an
ongoing basis, allows users to comment on and embellish the Help,
and allows us to add links from the help out to new articles,
tutorials, videos, and code samples on adobe.com and throughout the
Flash web community. One of you rightly pointed out that the Adobe
Updater could have been used for some of this, but I believe that
the updater would have required much more rigorous certification by
us of any update packages and the update/install process for each.
We actually are updating the online help files very frequently, so
this process would have been a major barrier to these updates.
We’ve had a struggle about how to deliver the Flash
Help for a long time, as we have a lot of users who have been quite
vocal about not liking the Help panel consuming space within the
Flash window as well as users who really want it there so they
don’t have to leave the IDE.
Having said all that, I still totally understand what
you’re saying about losing your code, glance, code, glance,
code workflow. As you probably know, we’ve been getting a lot
of feedback about this, along with other issues that online Help
has caused. We are actively looking at ways of solving these, but
the Help-in-a-browser issue a difficult problem, as this aspect of
the Help implementation is baked fairly deep into the CS4 product.
Since CS4 shipped, we have implemented solutions to some of the
issues with Help raised by users, such as allowing you to select
the default destination of F1 (though Flash CS4 always went to the
actual Help system rather than the Flash Help and Support page,
which is what these users wanted in other products). I just
don’t know if there will be a solution in the CS4 time frame
for viewing Help within Flash itself. As noted in this thread,
there are a few independent developers working on non-browser help
viewers, such as Jamie Kosoy, Technical Director at Big Spaceship,
whose AIR application for the CS4 Language Reference docs is
    available at
    http://labs.bigspaceship.com/2008/12/09/air-app-as3-language-reference/.
We knew that people use the AS3 Language Reference a lot, so
we did install a local, abridged version of that with the product.
You only see it when not connected to the internet or if you
disable online connections as described earlier in this thread, and
it still opens in a web browser and still has the same navigation
interface as the online version. You can also download a local copy
of the AS Reference, which does get updated periodically and can be
viewed locally regardless of the state of your internet connection,
but it also is all html and opens in a web browser. As previously
noted, the download is available here:
    http://help.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flash/10/ActionScript3LangRef.zip.
I know this thread started off with AS2 concerns, and we hear
    those too.
In some of the other threads out there about the Help, people
have raised issues about the contents navigation in the CS4 version
of the ASLR as well. We are listening to all these issues and
actively working on solutions that will address these questions.
We’d really like to give you better control over whether you
see online or local content, whether you see it inside the IDE or
    in a separate application, etc.
I know that you are all really frustrated at some of these
help changes, and so I want to say how much we appreciate your
feedback. I’m sorry that my reply doesn’t give you the
magic bullet that you are understandably hoping for.

  • FCP 7 Transcoded AVCHD files offline. Please Help!!!

So, I recently cleaned up my desktop and a FCP project went offline. The original footage is all still on the same external drive in AVCHD format. I'm thinking that I must have deleted the transcoded files. I have since re-transcoded but this has not helped? Where do the transcoded AVCHD files go after transcoding? Is there a way to reconnect these files? Any info is very appreciated!!! When I attempt to Search/Locate FCP crashes. Major bummer.... This is an effects-heavy short film and I REALLY do not want to start from scratch.

and if you select the clips in the browser or in the timeline and control click and choose reconnect, you can have fcp search all available drives for the material.  The problem with this can be that when you use fcp to log and transfer, it does not give clips a unique name, but fcp will give you an error message if you try to reconnect a clip to a file that doesn't exactly match the attributes of the original clip.  Also, if you've saved the project with a unique name (instead of the default untitled project) before you log and transfer, the material will be in a folder with the project name within the capture scratch folder.

  • Saving and Loading variables in a .txt file (Offline)

I'm working a software we've done with Flash, but we'd want
people to be able to save the variables they selected. We need them
to be able to save the value of about 10 variables in a file on
their desktop, and then be able to load that file again.
Is it possible to do that without having to use php or stuff
like that (that's why we want to make it an offline applications so
we don't have to use php to be able to save files).
I know Actionscript looks a lot like Javascript and with
Javascript it's really easy to do, but all the saving functions are
blocked in Flash for security reasons.
If anyone knows how to do that, to simply save and load a
.txt file, please let me know. If it would be possible also to
change the .txt to whatever else it would be even better. The file
can still be opened in Notepad but at least it looks a bit more
professionnal to have our own extension. Again in Javascript or
with a .bat file it's really easy to save variables to whatever
type of file, even to non existing types, it simply creates a text
    file with an unknown ending.
    Thanks!

I found a page that explains in a really easy way how to
communicate with Javascript if the flash object is contained in an
html page, but I couldn't find any page explaining how it works if
it's not in an html page. On our side, before using the software
we're creating we'll convert it to a .exe. How can we call a
Javascript from that .exe since we can't incorporate the Javascript
in the container since there isn't really a container... Is there a
way to link to a Javascript (.js) that would be in the same folder
as the .exe? Or would there be a way to incorporate the Javascript
    right into the .exe?
Let me know if any of you have a solution for that.
    Thanks!

  • Files offline from Peachpitt book?

Last year i did the Apple Peachpitt Color book. Next week i have to do some classes for some students from the book. I put the disk in the mac pro at work but the files in the Color timeline are offline. I open up lesson one (which is actually a FCP project file) and can send to Color no problem. but the later lessons (accessed through a Color project file) can't seem to find the clips they are looking for.
I'm sure this was not the case when i did the lessons last year. I have now tried it on my mac pro at home and the result is the same.
    Any thoughts?

Have you tried the Reconnect/Relink media in Color? If you go to the Setup room and use the directory browser, do the thumbnails of those clips show up? Also, make sure the media has the .mov extension on them.
