File on DVD disappear

At one point I had a DVD burner on my machine. However, after I would burn the DVD and go back to test the files (paranoid), filenames and files would randomly start to disappear. I've since purchased another DVD burner think the last was faulty and found that it was not the case.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Sample: http://www.typegirl.com/temp/disappearing.png

I have had the same problem with different discs on different Superdrives (in Powerbooks, Macbook, eMac), but which work fine in PCs or my Xbox. On the Mac, files can just disappear from the DVD if I click on them or copy them. Sometimes I can get at them if I eject and reinsert, but not always. It's very annoying!
The discs are high quality DVD-R burned and verified in Toast 6 UDF format at 4x.

  • Files on CD/DVD disappearing?

    Hi,
This is my first post, as this is my first real problem with my iBook since I got it, about 2 months ago.
When I insert a disc in the combo drive, it mounts perfectly and I have the link on my desktop, I can read any file on it and all's fine.
However, for example, if I play a video file from the disc and watch it for 20 minutes, when it's done and I go back to the listing and want to start another file, oops! when I click on any of the files they just disappear, one by one. Nothing is readable anymore. If I want to play another file, I have to eject the disc and insert it again.
Anyone has any idea, this is pretty annoying and I'm at a loss???

Just to get this clear, you are saying that after burning a data DVD using Toast your Mac won't reognise the files?
Does that DVD show up up on your desktop when you insert it?
What brand of DVD media did you use?

  • How do I burn a .mov file to DVD?

I need to burn an MPEG-2 video file saved as .mov to a DVD that will play in a regular DVD player.
I have tried opening iDVD and the selecting 'Create a New Project'. When I have selected a location for the project and the main window opens, I go to File > OneStep DVD from Movie...
My understanding is that when I import a movie file, it will burn it straight to the disc without any further options. It does this, however after a couple of minutes the DVD is ejected blank and iDVD says the burn has completed.
How can I solve this problem or is there another way to burn a .mov file to DVD?
    Thanks, Dan

A green screen in an indication that the movie is in a format not supported by iDVD.   It should be in one of these formats:  DV, high-definition video (HDV), MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-4 SD, MPEG-4 HD, and AVCHD.  (From SDMacUser's post in What input file formats does iDVD...: Apple Support Communities). The post has other requirements that need to be met.
    SD = standard definition.
Open your movie with QT Player and bring up the Info window for the movie.  It will have the format:
Another possible reason is the Energy Saving settings on the Mac.  Turn off energy saving and screen saver before starting the save as disk image or burn.

  • Windows Media Player Doesn't play video files or DVDs (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Since then, Windows Media Player has not been able to play any kind of video files or DVDs. I have tried using the Fixit tool and turning the WMP off and on with the Windows
Features menu, but it has not solved the problem. I have also made sure that my video and audio drivers are up to date.
The errors that come up say:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer.
    and
Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.
Any help with this would be great, because I like using WMP better than other media players.

    Hi,
Firstly, please try to use the Video example in C:\Users\Public\Videos\Sample Videos if it could play normally.
Secondly, try to reinstall Graphic Card driver for test.
If problem persists, try to remove WMP in Windows feature and add it again for test.

  • Copying hangs when copying large files from DVD

I'm having trouble copying large files (>2GB) from DVDs to my built-in hard drive. When I drag the file icon from the DVD window to the desktop, the progress bar pops up almost immediately, and says "0 KB of 2.3 GB copied" and "Estimated time left: 1 minute" -- and then it just sits there, doing nothing. In some cases, after five minutes or so of inactivity, the copy finally begins... but most of the time it never does. Force-Quit doesn't help; the only way out is to do an emergency restart and try again.
This problem began when I upgraded to Tiger, and several members of my office group have been experiencing the same problem on their own computers as well.
I've poked around the forum looking for answers but the only thing I could find that looked related was a conflict between iSight and some third-party external hard drives... but none of us have iSight, and none of us are using third-party external drives, so clearly that's not the issue we'rehaving.
    Any help out there?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Michael, I occasionally notice anomolous behaviour when files get dragged between volumes. Mostly the copying window shows an accurate and immediate indication of what's going on, but other times it just looks like nothing's happening, the display never changes, yet, it is in fact copying the files over. Now, if you're copying 2gb files from DVD to HD, it's gonna take some time, more than 5 minutes, so I'm wondering how long you've left it before forcing it to quit?

  • Burning DMG File To DVD

I am trying to burn Adobe CS4 dmg file to DVD as a back up. The size is 6.9GB so I am using a Dual Layered DVD which is at least 8GB. For some reason when I try to burn the dmg to DVD I get a message saying "disk doesn't have enough space. Am I doing something wrong? Here are the steps I took...
    1) Inserted blank DVD
    2) Added DMG file to Disk Utility
    3) Highlighted DMG file within Disk Utility and chose the burn option from the menu
This method has worked previously with a 6GB dmg file of iLife using the same exact blank Dual Layered DVD. Also, FYI I am running 10.5.5 Thanks for any help. It's greatly appreciated.

Are you expanding the DMG (you don't want to)? Incidentally, the iLife copy is different than what you are doing. Are you trying to copy the CS4 disk? If so, DU can make an image for you, of the disk. Make certain you save it as a "master", not "encrypted", or any other choice. Then, as you explain, select it, and hit burn.

  • Large Files to DVD from FCE

What are your best ideas for putting a two-hour Final Cut Express file onto DVD? What I'm doing is exporting to QuickTime, then using iDVD, but I wonder if there's something better, i.e. quicker.
    Thanks for any input.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I'd suggest the following -
Export from FCE as a Quicktime Movie and be sure to uncheck the option for "Make movie self-contained". This will generate a QT reference movie, which happens fairly quickly compared to creating a self-contained movie.
Import your QT reference movie into iDVD, select your template, etc. and build your DVD project.
In iDVD, burn to a disk image on your HD instead of directly to a DVD disk. Then use Disk Utility to burn your DVD disks. The overall process seems to go faster this way. If you keep the disk image you can burn more DVDs anytime at just the time it takes to burn, without having to wait for iDVD to prepare menus or rendering any video again.
I let iDVD render overnight, so I've never actually timed the entire rendering process however on my 2.0GHz/G5/SP, once I have the disk image it takes about 50 min to burn a 2 hour movie to a 2.4x DL-DVD disk.
To get a 2-hour movie at maximum quality (assuming at least 1 template and a menu or two), I'd suggest using dual-layer DVDs. Technically you can get 2 hours on a single layer DVD but you will sacrifice some quality in the process. (Note - select Best Quality, not Best Performance in your iDVD Preferences).

  • Need help compressing 140 minute video file for DVD+R

    Hi folks,
I am self-teaching Final Cut Studio and DVD Studio Pro. I must admit, the manual is not helping me with some key areas.
My first test in burning a DVD was to load a QT file into FCS then burn it to a standard DVD+R. Now, those say 120 minute capacity of course, so I wanted to compress the file.
I exported to Compressor and chose the DV 120 Minute option the first time. When that did not work I tried the 150 Minute option. Since it takes 3-5 hours for the DVD to burn on my new G5 Dual 2.0, that is all I have had a chance to try so far.
Since neither is working, I assume I am missing a step either in Compressor or in loading the file into DVD Studio Pro.
It burns all the way to 99% and then says '127.5 MB needed to complete' or something like that - in yellow lettering. I take it to mean the video file needs to be 127.5 MB smaller for it to work. I could cut a few minutes out, but that isn't the point.
Can anyone please direct me to either a page in the manual or assist me through this forum as to what error(s) I am making?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

What type of audio are you encoding to? If you're using uncompressed PCM/AIFF you're going to have trouble putting 140 minutes of video on a single-layer DVD (i.e. the quality will have to be pretty low). The preset titles for Apple's settings are calculated based upon compressed Dolby AC-3 audio -- not uncompressed PCM/AIFF. Thus, the so-called 150 minute preset will only produce about 120 minutes of capacity if you are using uncompressed PCM/AIFF audio.
If you want to put 140 minutes of video with audio on a single-layer DVD you're either going to have to use Dolby/AC-3 audio or create your own custom preset to use with PCM/AIFF audio.
However, if you are using compressed Dolby/AC-3 audio (only) then you may just be seeing an inaccuracy in Apple's preset targets (size). In that case just lower the target or average bitrate slightly so that you can fit your 140 minutes on the DVD. Just make a copy of Apple's 150 minute preset and tweak the bitrate slightly down (since that preset seems to be getting close to your target).

My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?

  • LINK TO A PDF FILE WITH DVD ACCESS

    Hello to everybody!
This is the first time I use this discussions area.
I'm desperate! I used the manual and all kind of online helps but still can't figure out how to link a pdf file inside dvd studio pro3. I enabled the dvd access but it doesn't work! I guess maybe it's something I do when a write the path where the file is or maybe the way I organize my folder! Anyways the thing is that it doesn't work not even in the simulation mode.
Please help me!! Thank you very much!
    Daria

    Hi Daria,
    Have a look at:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_access_linkfile.html
    or
    http://www.lafcpug.org/tutorials/basic_dvdaccess.html
It contains a pretty good tutorial and sample files on how to do this. It can be done and it also works on Windows if the PC enabler [email protected] is included as indicated in the tutorial.
    Cheers,
    Uwe

  • .PDF files in DVD ROM content

I am using a Mac and Encore CS4. I am trying to include a .pdf file as DVD ROM content. Whenever I try this, all .pdf files are "grayed out" and I can't use them. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro are both installed on the computer. I can read .pdf files outside of Encore.
    Any help would be appreciated.

To add to Ruud's comment. When adding DVD-ROM content (Build tab; about half way down), you cannot add files; you must add folders. But you can have anything you want inside the folder.
If you really want the file at the root of the DVD (i.e. not in a folder), build from Encore to a DVD folder without the file(s). Then use ImgBurn, add the Video_TS folder and any other files, then burn. I've never done this before, so I did a quick test (but I am CS3). Such a disk plays as a DVD in a set top DVD player and on a PC through wmp, and, on the PC, I can open the file from the disk.

  • H.264 HD MOV file in dvd studio not importing?

I have an H.264 HD video (1,440 x 1080, 16 x 9). I was able to import into FCp and export out to quicktime successfully yet when I attempt to import this file into DVD Studio it shuts down as it tries to import, throwing an error? Any ideas.

I'm having the same problem when attempting to produce an HD DVD as recommended by Rick Young.
I have no difficulty in burning an HD DVD using MPEG compression, but I'm unable to get DVDSP to accept an H264 file created using compressor (H264 for DVDSP setting). The .mov file when brought into DVDSP4 is seen only as an audio file; it plays as video in QT and also in iDVD as expected. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?
