File open error: unsupported file type Mpeg Streamclip

having a problem... I am using mpeg streamclip to convert vob files from a dvd. the problem is that the program says that the first vob file is an unsupported file type. I know that this is not true. The DVD plays, and the remaining vob files are opened and processed by the program correctly. Any advice or suggestions?

I am having the same problem. The first VOB file in the sequence will not open in either Streamclip or Quicktime. This is not the menu display image, but the first chunk of the video (the menu image actually will open). All the ones after it can be opened either individually or joined as a group.
The DVD plays fine on the mac and also in the regular DVD player. Any idea if this is perhaps some equipment fault when the DVD burner "finalizes" the disk? Am using a combo VHS/DVD-R unit. It is not super high-end, but then neither are these old home videos I'm converting.

  • DVD-MOV mpegstream clip error: "File open error: unsupported file type"

I do it all the time this is the only time i've gotten this error, i use mpeg stream clip. I have a dvd I got from a DVR recorder, I open the dvd which shows 2 VOB files in the TS folder. the MENU gives "Warning: the stream may have timecode breaks." I "Fix Now" and it works fine. But i dont want the menu. the other VOB file in the TS folder, which should be the "movie I want" gives this error when opened,
"File open error: unsupported file type"
when I open anyway, I get an audio bar which has no sound, and no video.
ANY IDEAS? I've been on this for hours PLEASE

    Hi,
Do you have the [MPEG-2 component|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2> installed on your computer? If not, you will need it to be able to convert VOB files.

Finally I found solution and was able to bring back online the SQL Services...
I had a very similar issue with the following error (event log):
    Description:
The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error 17058 (0x42A2).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    Event Type:      Error
    Event Source:      MSSQLSERVER
    Event Category:      (2)
    Event ID:      17058
    Date:            19/05/2012
    Time:            10:20:14
    User:            N/A
    Computer:      NSQLXX
    Description:
initerrlog: Could not open error log file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG'.
Operating system error = 5(error not found).
In this case the ERRORLOG file had been marked as read only. This was following a scheduled automated boot.  -This
    was culprit
MSSQL wouldn't not start until this file had been changed.

  • PPro CC says "the file has an unsupported compression type" in one project only - .mts files

Had to re-install Ppro CC to alleviate some plugin issues. Now, one of my projects that is comprised mostly of AVCHD files(.mts) are offline, and when I attempt to relink, I get the "the file has an unsupported compression type" message. But, all other projects with the same file types are fine.
I can open another project, or start a new one, and import the .mts files from the errant project with no problem. I have also tried importing the errant project into a new project. I have trashed preferences. I have signed out of CC, then signed back in.
I'm at a loss of what else to try. Any ideas?

    Ah well...
This forum has the same effect that my father did when I was a kid. As soon as I posted the above, I tried to open the errant project again, and the .mts files are now online. Same as my Dad and my car - it would be broken, and all he'd have to do is climb in and crank it, and I'd look like an idiot.

  • THE FILE HAS AN UNSUPPORTED COMPRESSION TYPE

    Hello frnds,
I am having an issue here in Premiere pro CS5. In CS5 new features they said we can import DVD format files into premiere pro CS5 without converting into any format but when I import my DVD files it gives me an error message saying that: THE FILE HAS AN UNSUPPORTED COMPRESSION TYPE.
Is there anyway I can sort this problem? pls help me....

Are they on your hard drive(cause running from DVD is begging for trouble)? what size are they? and what was the source you got them from? If all else fails, just convert em over(I hate working outside of the standard formats).
LOL harm asked the essential question..

I backed up my bookmarks to an external drive, rebuilt my system, and now when I try to restore from that file, I get "unsupported file type" How can I restore from this file?

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.<br />
    A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":<br />
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>
You may need to add quotes ("") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension.

  • Could not open error log file ''. Operating system error = 5(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).

    Hello
When I try to start the SQl server service i get the following error:
    Event id 17058
Could not open error log file ''. Operating system error = 5(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).
As a test I have made sure the errorlog file ,and the entire drive it is, has everyone full control permissions, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas to resolve this issue?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Try running:
    SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('ErrorLogFileName')
Then verify that the account being used to run the SQL Server service account has access to the path output above.  If possible, you could try logging onto the server with the same account used to run SQL Server then navigate to the errorlog folder.

  • "Error: Unsupported File" on .mp4

I am trying to upload a several files with the following specs and iTunes Upload and Manage Files is give me an "Error: Unsupported File".
    The Specs for the Files
    Format: H.264, 640x360, Millions
    AAC, 2 channels, 44100 Hz
    Data Size: 5.9 MB
    Data Rate: 1,579.84 kbits/s
From my research about files aloud to up load to iTunes these files fall into all requirements. Any suggestions or ideas as to why we are receiving this error.

It could be a bad meta data issue.
Can you delete all the metadata from the file and try uploading again?
If it fails, please post the following information:
    1. The date and time the file failed at
    2. Your domain and the name of the Collection or Group you where trying to upload the file to.

  • Podcasts - File Open Error N97 mini

I have successfully downloaded podcasts with my N97 mini, but when I go to open/play the podcast I keep getting a "File Open Error" ???

Podcast Library Refresh - General Error
    1. Connect your 5800 to you PC in Mass Storage Mode OR connect the microSD to your PC via a Memory card reader.
    2. Open Windows Explorer and browse to your memory card drive ..
    - To remove and start fresh start go to E:\Private\10281e17 There you should see 4 files 2 are Mp3 files other are Podcast files. Delete the whole 10281e17 folder, its not harm since our device will automatically create a new structure of the folder.

  • Launching Microsoft Access from Internet Explorer to view a downloaded MDB file opens the wrong file (not a problem if I use Firefox)

When clicking on a link (in Internet Explorer 9) to download an Access MDB file and then choosing to open the file directly in Microsoft Access (2007) instead of saving it, the file is copied to Temporary Internet Files but Microsoft Access tries to open
a different file and displays an (Unrecognized database format) error.
When I click on the option to open the file, the MDB file is copied to Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 but instead of that file, Access tries to open a different (incorrect) file located in Temporary Internet Files\Content.MSO (e.g. in the above error
message, NativeView.do is an XML file containing an error message).
I don't see this problem with Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. When opening a Word file (without saving) the Word file is copied to Content.IE5 but an identical .tmp file is created in Content.MSO which when opened in Microsoft Word displayed the required file
correctly. The same happens for Excel files. PowerPoint appears to be handled a little differently (no .tmp file created in Content.MSO but the required file is still copied to Content.IE5) but the PPT file is still opened correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.
I think the Content-Type "application/msaccess" is fine because Internet Explorer does launch Microsoft Access. It just tries to open the wrong file (or so I think). However, it looks like the file type is not being determined. Here is what I noticed
when trying to open different Microsoft Office files using Internet Explorer:
The last one is the MDB file. As you can see, only for this type of file, the "Type" (Microsoft Office Access 2007?) is not displayed in this Open/Save dialog box.
On Firefox, I don't see this problem. When I tried clicking on the link to the MDB file in Firefox, Microsoft Access was launched and the file was opened correctly. Is there something I can do so the MDB file is opened properly using IE? I can add/change headers
in the HTTP response that writes this file to the output stream (on disk) if that helps.
    Thanks for your time!

Sounds like a problem symptom to be discussed in either an IE forum or an Access forum, not here.  How did you come to post here?  ForumsRedesign.  That might be an on-topic issue for this forum.  <eg>
Can you find your way to either of those other forums easily from here?  Another on-topic question for here I think.   ; )

  • My raw files go to unsupported file format when I load them in. Sony RX 100 had for one year. Never happened before.

my raw files go to unsupported file format when I load them in. Sony RX 100 camera shooting RAW had for one year. Never happened before.
Can only load the files in by running them trhough Adobe Camera RAW first and loading them as TIFFS into Aperture. JPEGs form the Sony load into Aperture just fine. Have repaired datebase, permissions ect but no change. Aperture 3.4.5 on a Power Mac. Whats up? Anyone know?

You mention that 'most' of your files are DNG. Try
running the effected files through Adobe DNG
converter again and then import your reprocessed
files to Aperture and see if the problem persists.
I had a problem with a batch of D2x files converted
to DNG which had been metadata tagged by
    PhotoMechanic (the evil app).
B.T.W. You mention that you had been using Bridge.
Are you getting any of the embedded XMP metadata
coming into Aperture during the import process?
Already tried that multiple times...no luck. I'm wondering though if it might be related to metadata as you suggest. I'm still trying different things to see what happens.
I was able to alleviate the problem on one set of images by painstakingly searching my external drive for the oldest backups I could find - CR2 files from before DNG conversion. I then ran those through DNG Converter and tried importing them again (this time, I embedded NO thumbnail, but I'm not sure if that made the difference - I think it was more likely a fluke in the original conversion that caused the problem). This time, it worked.
Now, the big problem is that I still have a couple hundred images for which I can't seem to locate the original CR2 files. I don't typically keep them after conversion, as I don't have the space for both.
