File opening in PS on wrong monitor

Saw this before, after changing versions of PS I couldn't get the files opening from bridge or lightroom to open on the second monitor with a two monitor set up.  I always had to open it and then move it to the other monitor.  I know others had the same problem.  Figured it out finally by accident.  Don't know if anyone else hasn't figured it out.  In PS 5;  Edit>Preferences>Interface>uncheck the "Open Documents as Tabs" in the "Panels & Documents" area.

You could try using Firefox Nightly, that may work ok. Unfortunately that is not the sort of thing that can be recommended as a general solution.
It appears there may be some bugs in Firefox 18 as discussed in this thread:

For now all I can suggest is that you watch the other thread for developments.

  • CS4 - Dual Monitor Setup - Files open on wrong screen + Preview Adjustment layers

I have various workstations running Mac OS 10.5.8 three run PS CS3, and one runs CS4
In CS4 files always open on the monitor I have allocated for my palattes.  Before CS4, Photoshop would open files on the monitor that my last filed was opened on.  This is highly annoying!!! How can I fix it so that it at least always opens on the same monitor.
(My menu bar is on the monitor I've designated for my palettes menu and not the monitor I do all my color work on.)
Also, any hopes that we will be able to have a preview button for adjustment layers again?  This is highly annoying, and if I'm able to do so when adjusting directly onto a layer, why don't I at least have the option to have a preview button when having an adjustment layer????

Well if you menu bar is on your "second" monitor, it's generally considered now the "first" monitor, and hence most files will open on that screen by default. But sometimes you can make a file open on the other monitor if you have your mouse cursor in the other monitor. So put  your cursor on the desired screen, press command-O and the open dialog should show there, and the image should open there too. Also works if you double click a file on the desktop of the 2nd monitor. (Usually, these are the window opening dynamics as best I can figure).

  • Pages always opens a new window on the wrong monitor

Is there anyway to fix this I don't understand why always open on the wrong monitor I can't seem to open on the correct one

    OS X 10.8.4:
Drag the window back to the correct monitor and position it where you want it to open. Make certain that you actively save and close your documents before quitting Pages.
In System Preferences > General, check the box adjacent to Close windows when quitting an application.
Your Shutdown, Restart, and Logout dialogs should have the “Reopen windows when logging back in” unchecked.
If this does not correct the problem, select all contents (command+A) of the following folder only, and then use the right button to select the menu item, “Move to Trash.”
    /Users/yourlogin-name/Library/Caches/
Also, drag the following file to the Trash as well:
    /Users/yourlogin-name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
Empty the Trash. (You may have to reboot to fully empty the Trash.)
The next time you launch Pages, the application window will open where you want it.

  • All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default, as I am workin

I am using Adobe 8 Professional and working on Windows XP. I have been facing an issue lately with opening files in a dual-monitor environment. All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default. There are times when I work only in one monitor and when I open a PDF file and want to have a look at it, I have to connect another monitor to view that file, since this file is open in the secondary monitor. It is very disappointing with such instances happening with Adobe (a leading organization). Can you please help so that the Adobe Reader files open in the primary monitor by default?

On a Windows system disable the preview of Windows Explorer.

  • Launching Microsoft Access from Internet Explorer to view a downloaded MDB file opens the wrong file (not a problem if I use Firefox)

When clicking on a link (in Internet Explorer 9) to download an Access MDB file and then choosing to open the file directly in Microsoft Access (2007) instead of saving it, the file is copied to Temporary Internet Files but Microsoft Access tries to open
a different file and displays an (Unrecognized database format) error.
When I click on the option to open the file, the MDB file is copied to Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 but instead of that file, Access tries to open a different (incorrect) file located in Temporary Internet Files\Content.MSO (e.g. in the above error
message, NativeView.do is an XML file containing an error message).
I don't see this problem with Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. When opening a Word file (without saving) the Word file is copied to Content.IE5 but an identical .tmp file is created in Content.MSO which when opened in Microsoft Word displayed the required file
correctly. The same happens for Excel files. PowerPoint appears to be handled a little differently (no .tmp file created in Content.MSO but the required file is still copied to Content.IE5) but the PPT file is still opened correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.
I think the Content-Type "application/msaccess" is fine because Internet Explorer does launch Microsoft Access. It just tries to open the wrong file (or so I think). However, it looks like the file type is not being determined. Here is what I noticed
when trying to open different Microsoft Office files using Internet Explorer:
The last one is the MDB file. As you can see, only for this type of file, the "Type" (Microsoft Office Access 2007?) is not displayed in this Open/Save dialog box.
On Firefox, I don't see this problem. When I tried clicking on the link to the MDB file in Firefox, Microsoft Access was launched and the file was opened correctly. Is there something I can do so the MDB file is opened properly using IE? I can add/change headers
in the HTTP response that writes this file to the output stream (on disk) if that helps.
    Thanks for your time!

Sounds like a problem symptom to be discussed in either an IE forum or an Access forum, not here.  How did you come to post here?  ForumsRedesign.  That might be an on-topic issue for this forum.  <eg>
Can you find your way to either of those other forums easily from here?  Another on-topic question for here I think.   ; )

I can't read acsm files on my e-reader after transferring them from the pc with ADE. it seems to work, but then when I try to open the files on the e-reader it says "open failure". what's wrong?

The acsm file is not the book, it is a ticket to get the book.  I sometimes get library books online, here is what I do.
    1. Start ADE on the computer
    2. Go to library website and find the book I want to download.
    3. Click on the download link
    4. In windows 7 a box opens asking whether I want to open( or run) or save the acsm file
    5. Click open/run and ADE downloads the book into the "Library"
    6. Transfer the book (epub file) to the reader.

  • Multiple monitors - how to define which monitor files open on

    Mac OS 10.8.X
    PS CS6
I work on a Mac with three monitors. My primary monitor is in the middle. I often will drag images to one of the side monitors where they'll stay open while I'm working on other images. But photoshop will open the next image I choose on the side monitors where I've got images open.
I want all new images to open on my primary monitor, always. Is there a way to define which monitor images will open on?

Photoshop will open an image on the last monitor an image was on. If I open an image and drag it to one of my side monitors, then open a new image, it will open on the same monitor where the other image is sitting. If I open an image and move it to a side monitor, then close it on that monitor, the next image will open on that monitor.
So I think your answer is not correct. PS always opens the image on the last monitor where an image resided.
    Repro:
Have two monitors, A and B.
Open an image. It will open on A. Drag the image to monitor B.
Open a second image by double clicking an image in a finder window. It will now open on B.
    Close images on Monitor B
double click a new image to open it. It will open on B.
Now take that image and drag it back to A. Close it.
Double click and image to open a new image in PS. It will now open on A.
    Result:
Photoshop remembers the last monitor where an image was open, and will open subsequent images on that monitor, even if that monitor is no longer present. For example, if you open an image on your main monitor, then drag it to a projector window, then close the window. then turn off the projector. All new images you open will be on the projector, even if it's turned off. The only way to use PS again is to turn the projector back on, drag the images back to the monitor you want to use, then close them from there.
NB: To test your theory, I opened an image in Preview on monitor A, then dragged it to monitor B. Opened next image, and it opens on A. PS behaves differently than the system. This has always been the behavior of PS, from many version back, so this isn't specific to PS6, but it would be nice to be able to change or affect that behavior.

  • Preview app opens "split screen" on dual monitor setup

This is a minor issue, I rarely use the utilility "Preview" app. but I'd still like to understand this issue....I use a two monitor setup (MBP & StudioDisplay)..
The following happens if the window was last closed in "expanded" mode (you can see options for Drawer, rotate, etc)
When "Preview" launches and opens a window, it places the top portion of the window on the secondary display and bottom part of the window on the primary display.
This Does Not happen if the window was last closed in "non-exanded" (collasped) mode (sorry, I don't know the proper term).
In other words, in respect to it's position on the screen, when the window opens it always assumes it's in "collasped" mode.
    Weird... any comments?

There's something wrong with the way Preview handles dual monitors. In my case if I open a smallish item, for instance a small png, instead of opening in the upper left corner of my main monitor it opens so that about half an inch of the Preview window is sticking over onto the second monitor (which is to the left of my main monitor). I had never "collapsed" the tool bar before, so I just now tried that on a small png, then closed it and re-opened. Sure enough, without the toolbar it opens properly. Display the toolbar, close, reopen, and it sticks onto the second monitor. Weird indeed. Larger size files open normally.
This started with the Tiger version of Preview. If you wish you can send feedback:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
Maybe it will help get this odd bug squashed in a future version of Preview.

  • Save As / File Open dialog boxes too large to use on laptop

I have a Macbook Air and am using one of the new Apple LED Cinema Displays, although this problem was also present when I was using my older Apple Studio Display.
The problem is that some of the system dialog boxes, notably File Open and Save As are huge when I am just using my Macbook with no external screen. They are so big i cant see the lower right drag handle and make them smaller and cant access buttons at the bottom like "New Folder".
I think this is because I resized the dialog box when I last had my large external monitor connected and now that it is not connected (I'm at home on holiday not at work) I cant find a way to make them reset to their normal size.
Does anyone know anything that would help? I've had a good search online and also in these forums and havent found anything - but apologies if I've missed an existing open thread.
    Thanks,
    Glenn.

This did not work for me - and in my case it was the "Export" Save As sheet in Keynote. There is a real solution for this problem. Firstly all user 'preferences' and these are things that include not only preferences set in the application's preferences window but also window position, size, recent items etc. are stored in the preferences .plist file for an application (stored in the users account Library folder) . If an application starts to behave strangely, crashes on start etc. deleting this file while the application is NOT running can often fix a problem. So if a window is in an unusual location or partially off-screen then trashing the file often will fix the problem (BTW - if you are unsure how to find the file activate the Finder and select the "GO" menu -> "Go to Folder" and type ~/Library/Preferences - make sure you are not in the System's preferences folder - deleting these items is typically bad...). Preference files for an application are typically named com.companyname.programname.plist. So for Keynote the plist is com.apple.keynote.plist. Preferences are recreated when the application is launched. Often though this is a bit extreme. If you double click a plist file the "Property List Editor" application will start (at least if you have the developers tools installed - all free and on the Leopard DVD - with a free Apple Developer ID you can also run the most up to date version pre-snow leopard). In the plist editor all of the various options available in the program are listed - ones from the preference panel and other application information. In the case of Keynote (possibly other apps - I haven't checked) the NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode key stores the size of the Save/Save As sheet. I downsized from a 17" MBP to a 15" MBP and the string size for this was 682 wide by 843 tall in pixels - my screen is only 900 px and once you consider the space needed for the application menu bar and tool bar the dialog buttons were 'just' barely visible - tauntingly so. I dropped the height to 743, saved the plist and reopened Keynote (remember to edit these while the application is not running - and always save a copy first before editing the file). This worked for me perfectly and unlike other suggestions here provides precision control. Now having said that 1) these files are XML and can be edited using a text editor but the plist editor is much prettier; 2) typically the keys are named using their appropriate Coca names for the property - but each developer can and does write their own code often deviating from Coca - hmm MS, Adobe come to mind - so remember that its good to read through the plist and Google to make sure that you are editing the correct information; 3) plists are automatically recreated if you really screw-up and need to delete - unfortunately in doing so Word will forget that no-one actually likes "when editing automatically select the whole word" so you will need to redo all of those kinds of preference tweaks.

  • On file open: "This document contains JavaScript code for a widget that no longer exists."

I had an existing, functional datepicker in a web page.
Recently I downloaded the UI Datepicker in the Widget Browser and installed it in DW CS5. Now every time I load the file that calls the datepicker that I added myself, a warning opens with the following text:
This document contains JavaScript code for a widget that no longer exists. If you don't remove the code, the browser might display JavaScript errors when loading the page. Would you like Dreamweaver to find all instances of this code for you?
    Widget: $("#reservDateBegin").datepicker();
    Widget: $("#reservDateEnd").datepicker();
Clicking "Yes" opens the file and shows the search box at the bottom of the window with [current document] in File and $("#reservDateEnd").datepicker(); in Matched Text. Clicking "No" just opens the file.
The error is wrong, since installing the widget is what caused the error in the first place!
How can I get DW to stop showing this message?
    Thanks for any help.

I do understand you're trying to be helpful. I was just hoping providing the relevant code snippets would be sufficient so I didn't have to take the time to provide a "cleaned" version of the files and upload those to a public-safe location.
Zabeth69 wrote: If you don't understand what 'code at the bottom of the page' means, you have not used one of those systems. I don't know what causes the error code to come up (besides removing a Spry widget, I mean). So if it doesn't apply to you, ignore it.
This is exactly my point: I haven't used any of the DW "systems". I've always manually coded in DW, so I can't have removed a Spry widget in the first place. It wasn't until I installed the Widget using the Widget Browser that I started getting the error (I don't mean adding the datepicker widget to the code using the DW Insert menu - I mean installing the Widget into DW itself). Ignoring such an erroneous/incorrect error seems kind of silly, since every time I open the file I get the error message.
Anyway, as requested, the following are links to the contactUsCleaned.php page, and the php included headerCleaned.php file. Since these use php includes to complete the rendered HTML, they won't look right in the browser, but as you know viewing the source will show the relevant html, javascript, and jquery code. I didn't see any way to upload the files in this forum, which, due to the php code, would be preferable to see exactly what my code looks like...
    http://www.eventidewebdesign.com/public/contactUsCleaned.php
    http://www.eventidewebdesign.com/public/headerCleaned.php
The footer.php file the contactUs page includes is simply a set of HTML links to the pages on the site, copyright info, and the Google Analytics script. There is no other code in the footer.php file.

  • Files opened are no longer associated with a connection

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find any mention of it.
    Steps to reproduce the problem:
    - open SQLDev
    - open a connection
    - open a file (using the "Files" tab in the left pane)
Result: the file is not associated with the open connection and you have to manually select it from the drop-down on the top right corner.
Previous versions were working as expected and current behaviour is extremely annoying.
Hope you will fix it ASAP.

Well basicaly I think that any default sticking of a file to a connection is wrong.I disagree. To me default should be the connection(s) currently open.
If you really want to have such feature then it has to be configurable and disabled by default. That sounds more reasonable.
I think that first time you open a file you always have to chose a connection.I strongly disagree.
Consider you would have 10 connections opened and opening a file for the first time. To which connection would you attach the file?ideally SQLDev should ask me to which of the currently open connections I want to pin the file. If that's too much work, I can live with not pinning to any (IOW, as it is now). BUT if only ONE connection is open I want SQLDev to pin any file to that connection, without asking anything (IOW, as it worked before).
To remember to which connection was a file attached, you need to remember the full path to the file and the connection. If you have hunderts or even thousands of files then such log would be pretty big. What if I remove some files from my project? There is no way how you can detect this, so the log will contain dead mappings.I don't want SQLDev to remember anything: I work with CVS/SVN and the same file can be compiled on different connections (DEV, TEST, PROD, etc.). Not sure what are you talking about here...
Basicaly I don't understand why need this functionality? You need to attach a file to a connection only when you need to compile it. When I am programing something I usually have only few souces open (e.g. three packages). I doubt anybody opens and changes large number of packages. Are you doing some changes to entire system every day?I don't understand how the number of files should make any difference. You open three packages, fine: don't you need to compile the changes you make? I just don't want to be forced to choose the connection if that can be automated (and, BTW, how many connections do you have? I have hundreds: do you think it's fun scrolling through a list that long?).
