File Permission 101 - Why isn't this simple?

Help. I don't understand why all the mystery about file permission. I can't get Migration Assistant to work so I need to move file folders to my new computer. I continually get shut down because I "don't have permission". It's my computer and I set it up originally and yes I must have done something wrong but why can't I get permission to access file folders and move them. Some say read only. Some say read - write. I want them to all be read-write or at least movable. I can change the setting but I still don't get access. Can someone suggest how to get access to my own files to be able to move them? I can access them - just can't move them or copy and paste them or drag them. Obviously, I'm inexperienced so simplicity is welcome.

When you push the up arrow, you add 1 X 10 ^ -7 to 1 X 10^ -4 so it makes little difference to what gets displayed when you repaint(). Try temporarily changing the line to "speed-=0.0001;" in the keyTyped() method to show better what is going on.

When you hooked up to your PC did they attempt to import? Had you imported them previously and not deleted when the import was complete?
If you have to delete them directly on your device, you need to press the select button and just keep selecting until you have all of them selected, then put them in the trash.
You do not need to select one then trash it, then select another then trash it. You can select as many as you like before clicking on the trash icon.

They are absolutely now paired after doing all you said, as I reset both the Bose Link and the Iphone. Now we have a pair, but no sound on the speaker or the iphone when they are connected. I know they are connected b/c the iphone says they are in the blue tooth setting AND the Bose has a solid blue tooth light on.
Now what? This is beyond frustrating and only happened when I UPDATED ios!

Apple promotes the rental service as being able to allow viewers to watch, start/stop, content on all account related iOS devices.

Erratic file naming. Why doesn't this work?

The Finder allows certain names for files and folders sometimes, but then doesn't allow them at other times. What's happenig? Here's an example. I created a folder with this name: "National Geog> Africa (4 parts, 1hr each)" with no problem. Later I wanted to change the "4" to a "6". Sounds simple enough. I highlighted the 4 and typed the 6—but the Finder rejected that simple change, with this message: The [new name] cannot be used. Try using another name, with fewer characters or no punctuation marks."
Why would it like the name with a 4 in it, but not like the name with a 6 instead of the 4?
I can provide this much a clue. The folder resides on an external LaCie hard disk. I don't recall how that particular folder got there, but I have discovered I can create a folder with the desired name on my desktop and then successfully copy it to my external disk with no problem. But I cannot create the folder on the external disk in give it the desired name (I get the error message), nor can I change an existing folder name on the external disk to that name.
This is not the world's worst problem, but if anyone has any comments about this, I'd appreciate them.

Strange...when I create a folder on my desktop with that exact name I can change the 4 to a 6 perfectly fine. Are you able to change the name to other things?

Why isn't this live album included in my iPod as an album produced by the artist?

The album is Jason Mraz's Beautiful Mess and it appears under the "Album" section in my iPod Touch, but not under "Jason Mraz" in the "Artist" section. it's a 4th generation iPod, and everything is up-to-date. Why is this, and how can I get this album with the rest of my Jason Mraz music?

Well, its a Quicktime Movie File (.mov) in an H.264 codec.
The total bitrate is 737kbps, the resolution is 352x240.
From what I know about the 5G iPod, it should be playable.

The script I'll try to work out for my site, worked fine in the lessons of the books.
I don't think my buttons are any different, but why don't they work then.

CSV Files from Oracle - why won't this work?

Hi all, I copied and pasted in the code at the bottom of this post
into Oracle 8 - it's copied from asktom so it should be fine.
I got Function created at the end.
However, when I try to run

...but there could be another way. Not sure if it works on your version (it surely works on 9i onwards), I don't have your version on hands to do tests, so you'll do the test :-)
As sysdba create a directory object, say MYDIR (you can name it as you want) :

What's taking so long for someone to come out with a mp3 player with stereo bluetooth? cell phones got it, so it can't be a size issue, what's the deal? that would be the coolest thing since the iPod. seems like it should already have it. but i guess maybe the technology isn't ready yet, all i know is i want a bluetooth iPod

Why doesn't this simple AppleScript work?

Hi. I'm trying to change my desktop background using some AppleScript from the command line:
osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to set desktop picture to POSIX file "~/Pictures/Some Picture.jpg"'
But, I get this:
33:48: execution error: Finder got an error: AppleEvent handler failed. (-10000)
I also tried it this way:
osascript -e "tell application \"Finder\" to set desktop picture to POSIX file \"~/Pictures/Some Picture.jpg\""
...and got the same result.
So, I then tried this AppleScript (essentially the same thing?) from within AppleScript editor:
tell application Finder
set desktop picture to POSIX file "~/Pictures/Some Picture.jpg"
end tell
and got a syntax error:
A class name can’t go after this application constant or consideration.
I have reason to believe that this works for others, but I can't seem to make it work. Also, if anyone can suggest another way to change the desktop background from the cammand line, that would be helpful too.

Thanks, that worked great in AppleScript Editor, and when I ran the .applescript file with osascript. However, when I tried to make the same changes from the commandline, I got this:

It would be easier if I could pass a command line argurment to my script, that is now working thanks to you (I know there is a way to do this but how?). Also it would have to be a a UNIX style path (like '/path/to/file.jpg' not 'path:to:file.jpg of home' or 'file.jpg of to of path').

How to Boot Permanently in 64 bit, and why isn't this comand working

I want to permanently boot in 64 bit . I have Macos 10.6.8 snow leopard.
I tried this command in the terminal (because i read it online) and it doesn't work:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot 'Kernel Flags' 'arch=x86_64'
When i restart the System Profiler says SOFTWARE/
64-bit Kernel and Extensions:
No
At one time, it did work but then it went back to saying NO.
Other techniques i've read said to open and Edit the com.apple.Boot plist file. But i search for that file and it's no where to be found.

That command does work on a 2008 Mac Pro we have, but not on a 2011 model. Mark's command is the one we use to get the 2011 model to purposely boot into 32 bit mode in order to use our scanning software on another partition. Except for a 32 bit startup, it's:
sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386

Why doesn't this simple applescript work any more in ML mail.app (as a rule)

It works only when you right click on the mail message and choose "run rules", but not on incoming messages (without interaction).
The first dialog is shown both when incoming or running manually, but the second dialog (with the id) is only shown when running manually. Nothing is shown in console.log
Any ideas?

Each time I click the "Open a New Tab" button, how do I make FF open to my homepage and why isn't this default behavior?

Firefox does not default to your homepage when you manually open a new tab. It should do so.
Is there a way to make FF do this? Is it an addon? If so, should this not be default behavior and just be incorporated into the browser?

Why isn't this box not resizing to browser width?

Why is that bottom gradation not spreading across the browser width? The top gradation spreads. The bottom dark blue box spread, but not the bottom gradation. I have it at 100% width, as I do with the other two that do spread. Perplexed.

I experimented more with it. The lower gradation is a copy of the upper one then rotated 180 degrees. For whatever reason that copy wouldn't resize horizontally. So I deleted it and added a new box and filled it with my gradation and it worked.

Up until today I could use tabbed browsing. When I go to click on the + sign for a new tab nothing happens. I have gone through everything. Why isn't this working?

Also I have right clicked to get the add new tab and nothing happens.
