File Permission, Sharing and Windows 2008R2

We are pilioting OSX (10.7.4) and are having an issue with file access:
Scenario
File Server:  Windows 2008 R2
Authentication: Active Directory Integrated
Share Mounted:  DFS Path or File share @ CIFS://SERVERNAME/SHARENAME
Share Permissions:   Full Control
File Permissions:  Modify
Problem:
User1 can create and edit a file via textedit (without versioning), however when User1 closes the file and User2 Open the file it is locked.  User2 can see te file but cannot make any changes to the file.  Further, if User2 tries to modify permissions for the file it is deleted off of the file system.
Hope someone can help here.  We are trying to stay pure Apple but realize me may have to go and use Thursby to solve this issue.

Thanks so much for checking in on this. I have drifted so far into the Mac world that I no longer have any windows friends   I was trying to find a Cap user on a Win machine.
Thanks  again
Rick

  • Share files between Mac and Windows in same iMac with boot camp

    Hello,
I am new in using Mac and recently I buy a IMac 24" model.
I used to use PC a long time with a lot of old document.
I want to install Windows XP with boot camp.
But I also want to share my documents, music, video files between Mac and Windows in same iMac.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

Hi Eric and welcome to Discussions and the Apple world.
Mac OSX can read and write from Windows partitions (like the BootCamp Windows partition you are about to create) when using FAT32 as file system for Windows.
However with FAT32 you are limited to a partition size of 32GB.
Mac OSX can also read from Windows partitions that uses the NTFS file system, but it can not write to them unless you use a third-party helper like either Paragons NTFS for Mac http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ or NTFS-3G http://www.ntfs-3g.org/
Windows can not even see or use a Mac OSX partition without additional help by MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/

  • Network file permission error and Log???  Need help...

    Hi everyone!
Based on what I learned here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1760312&#1760312
I have a log in my script like this:
set log_path to (startup disk as string) & "Applications:My Folder:My Log"
set the_date to (current date) as string
set logfilecontent to (open for access file log_path with write permission)
    try
    write the_date & return & "Here's my Log:" & return & "item1" & return to logfilecontent starting at eof
    on error
    close access logfilecontent
    end try
    close access logfilecontent
It has always worked but this is part of an app. I just realized that this will work on my admin login but not on a regular login (I mean logging into the computer). And if I change the owner/group of the app sometimes it will change if I can do it either on an admin login or standard. I often get a Network file permission error and it gets stuck. I know it's something to do with permissions, but maybe I don't fully understand still? I need it so it will work on admin or standard login without that error. In that same link above a user mentions he had the same problem. So there's something I'm just not getting??? And I know it's here with the Log because I took it out and no problem. Hope you guys can help out???
    Thanks in advance,
    Reg

If the log already exists on the hard disk, you may not be able to write to it from a non-admin account, and you may want to avoid writing to the Applications folder. You can provide an empty log in the expected place which allows all accounts to write to it, but the permissions may be lost when the application is installed.
Alternative options include creating different logs for each account:
set log_path to (startup disk as string) & "Applications:My Folder:" & (do shell script "whoami") & "'s Log"
or writing the log to the account's home folder:
set log_path to (path to home folder as string) & "Library:Preferences:My Folder:My Log"

  • Shared files between Vista and Windows 8.1

I have a laptop with windows 8.1 on it and a desktop with Vista.  The desktop can access the files on the laptop, but the laptop cannot access the desktop files.  The network shows the desktop, but says it is cannot access it.  Is
there a setting in windows 8.1 that I am missing?

    Hi,
Please make sure that you have permission to access Windows Vista computer, and the share from Windows Vista is for public.
    Then, please check following settings:
Whether these two computers are in the same workgroup.
Try to turn off the firewall of Windows Vista to check the results.
Check whether the network discovery of both computers is turned on.
Check following ports are allowed in Firewall: UDP 3702, TCP 5357, TCP 5358
If the key restrictanonymoussam under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa was set to 1 or 2, please change it to 0.
For other detailed settings, please refer to this link:

  • Sharing Files between Mac and Windows XP PC

I have an small office with three computers. There is a new Mac that basically acts as the server. There is a shared folder on the computer. The other 2 computers are PCs. All permissions have been set on the Mac. The other 2 users are set as Administrators on the Mac and have the ability to Read and Write. The other 2 users can access the files, but they are not able to make any changes. The shared folder has may sub folders. Any ideas?

huh, i used migration assistant to create a user with all my old data. now i have 2 users. anyway, i was putting the old data i wanted (i plan to wipe out the old user) into the shared folder...and it was working fine. all of a sudden, i put files into the shared folder, and when i log in as the new user, i can't use the file. won't give me access.
i've enabled file sharing, the files and folders are marked as shared, and well...it seems like file sharing is broken.
    ...ideas?

  • Sharing files between mac and windows

Hello, I have recently purchased a new mac computer and I would like to transfer files from my old windows computer onto this new one and vice versa. I have tried using an external hard drive to do this, but I found that it can only be formatted to one OS at one time. Does anybody have any ideas of how I can accomplish this? Thank you so much for your help everyone!

I'm not clear as to the current format of the drive. Since you say it is working with MacDrive I am assuming it is currently NTFS. You also say this is for a "new computer" so is this really a Leopard OS computer, making this a Leopard OS question? There's differences in the capabilities of the different systems.
As for MacDrive, if it works and it's the only program then you'll have to pay for it. I'd say if you're just using it this once for this one application you could probably buy a used drive for $50 to allow you to clear some files off the one you want to use and reformat it. Drives formatted to FAT32 can hold files up to 4GB in size and work with both Mac and Windows. Unless this is for video I don't see a severe restriction to reformatting to FAT32 and using that.

  • Printer Sharing and Windows Sharing with Windows Vista

Today I tired setting up a printer sharing network over my linksys wireless router. I turned the printer sharing on and the windows sharing on my mac. Then I launched my notebook with vista on it and installed Bonjour for Windows 1.0.3. Once the installation finished I ran the wizard and installed the shared Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer.
Once I finished the wizard I gave the printer a go.
I tried printing a word document on my Vista machine using the new wireless set up and nothing happens the printer queue gains the document spools it and then it's gone. Then, I tried using Vistas Sharing set up. After setting up another printer icon (the same printer). When I go to print I get an error message.
Also when I try accessing my shared folder from my vista machine. I use my Username and password for the login. The computer responds that my Mac Mini's username and password is incorrect. Thus, I cannot fileshare between by Mac Mini and my Vista Laptop
What can I do to get my printer sharing and my windows sharing set up to work.
(also, my Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Printer is hooked up to my mac mini through USB).
    Please respond
    Thank you

  • Share files between Mac and Windows sessions.

    Hello,
I've a business(sales) software(Ciel) which is working on Mac. This software is generating a file which can be exported to another (Ciel) software(accounting) but which only works on Windows. I've made 2 sessions for both operating systems, split hard disk in 2 partitions and installed the both software separately.
How can I let the windows partition being accessible to writing mode from mac session in order to export the file from mac to windows?
    Thank's in advance.

You may want to investigate Parallels for Mac. It will allow you to share everything in your Mac with Windows.

  • Loading images with file:// on Linux and Windows

    Hi,
i've found (maybe) a bug. In my application i load some files from the temp dir. In Linux from /tmp, in Windows from C:\Temp.
    If i use
    file://<TempDir><file>(results in)
    file:///tmp/myfile
    and
file://C:\Temp\myfileit works in Linux but not in Windows.
    If i use
    file:/<TempDir><file>(results in)
    file://tmp/myfile
    and
file:/C:\Temp\myfileit works in Windows but not in Linux..
Is there a "clean" solution without manually check which operating system is used (e.g. some config to set)?
    Thanks in advance

Thank you Tunde for looking at my issues!
The file size is not an issue here. We tested with empty files or files with smaller than 1KB sizes. They all showed problem. The frequency of file transfer shouldn't be a problem either. Through some user interaction on front panel, a couple of files will be transferred. That's basically how often the file transfer occurs.
Interestingly enough, I replaced the copy.vi with a subvi I created using DOS command with System Exec.vi and the issue of copying files went away. My co-worker tested on both XP machine and Windows 7 machine. The DOS command worked fine thru Lavview's System Exec.vi. I think I can take that as a work-around if we can't figured out why copy.vi wouldn't work. Still, it would be nice to know why it doesn't work.
Now I'm still facing some issues with the usage of Check If File or Folder exist.vi. Sometimes it can detect the existing files and sometimes it doesn't.
    Thanks very much!

  • Sharing .itl file between Mac and Windows

How do I share an .itl file located on a NAS between a Windows machine and a Mac? I can do it with two Windows machines, but one I add a Mac, every time I switch platforms the library rebuilds. Onle one machine is accessing the itl file at a time, all the content is on the NAS, and I have 11.0.2.25 on the Mac and 11.0.2.26 on the Windows machine (can't get 11.0.2.25 on the Windows machine.

Right now, I have Verizon DSL that uses a Westell router. It has 4 ethernet ports on the back in addition to the DSL connections. I have a HP Pavilion with Windows XP in the basement, an iMac G3 in my room, and an intel iMac in our living room all connected to the router by ethernet cables. Each computer is able to access the other computer's files. On the intel iMac I have Microsoft Remote Desktop installed so that I can log into the HP in the basement and control it from the iMac. I haven't tried operating this network wirelessly, but I would imagine that it would be possible. One thing that you might want to check is the router's configuration. My router has settings that either allow or block wireless signals. To access my router's settings I type in 192.168.1.1 in Safari or Internet Explorer. Having all 3 computers on the internet at the same time does not slow the speed of the DSL very much.
I hope this information will help.

  • Can't share files between XP and Windows 7. McAfee...

Added a Windows 7 laptop to my network which is based on a Windows XP Home SP3 desktop. Having followed all the help on both m/cs, searched this forum and tried the hint given to Stephen Draper last year (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/)
I can see both computers in BT Broadband Help on the desktop and also in 'Network' on the laptop. I've clicked on all the permissions for home networking - and still I can't see any shared files between the two m/cs.
I wonder if it's McAfee that's blocking the exchange, because it has taken over all Windows firewall functions.  I've looked at the list of McAfee exclusions and it seems OK (not that I really understand it) and in any case it won't let me add to it.

What you have done so far appears to be correct, however, and I dont know why, I pointed a friend of mine to here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749119%28WS.10%29.aspx as the issue is not just a simple networking setup.
If all your machines are running McAfee then you be able to 'trust' each pc on the network from McAfee.

  • File & Printer Sharing with  Windows Vista

    Hi All,
I work in a small office, I'm the only mac user & I supply my own Macbook 10.5.6.
We have just had a new Samsung printer installed in the office which all PC's have been enabled for printer sharing, but I cant seem to get my Mac to pick up the Shared printer. I'm also trying to set up a folder on the main PC that I can send files to from my mac. The shared folder has been created on Windows Vista - but I'm unable to see that shared folder in finder. Could these 2 issues be related? please can someone help me make my work days just a little bit easier
    Thanks so much

I would like to add that I DO NOT want to share my laptop at all. It is my personal computer & if I can set up file sharing from my mac to the main PC on vista while still blocking any access to my computer.
I am currently following this procedure - http://www.ifelix.net/tech/3022.html

  • Bonjour Printer Sharing and Window XP with Canon Multifunction

    Hi,
I have shared my Canon MP170 and Installed Bonjour for Windows 1.03 on my Windows XP box and it works.I can print to the printer.
However the print quality is strange. It looks like it is in draft mode, where colors or black are not a full saturation. I converted to "Black and White" in the Win XP printing preferences, however it just comes out with a purplish hue, which tells me that it is using color to print black.
Also, even though in the Bonjour setup I selected "Generic/Postscript" driver, the Windows XP printer driver states "HP Laserjet 4550 PS". Is this OK?
I have searched for a solution but I have no idea what could be the issue. I am hoping I just need to tweak the Windows XP Printer config a bit.
    Any ideas?
