File Permissions randomly changing

We have a small network with 3 machines connecting to our mac mini (snow leopard) server to access work stored on on it.
We have a problem when any one of the machines saves work to the server it rewrites the permissions to be read only and non of the other machines can edit the file. When we look at the permissions on the system admin tools they all appear to be correct as read/write for everyone.
Is there some kind of setting on the individual machines I need to alter to prevent which is somehow overriding the server permission settings?

Hi,
I'm having this problem too. Has Adobe fixed the issue yet? This appears to be an Adobe problem, not all the web hosts out there. CS6 is ramdomly (meaning: not every time) changing permissions on files uploaded with it and is not usable for web work until this problem is fixed by Adobe or a solution is provided. If I wanted to use a separate FTP program I would not have recommended that my employer buy multiple Adobe CS6 product licenses. One of the primary appeals of DW is the integration of FTP into the workflow.
I am using a destop iMac2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
OSX 10.7.5
I am using DW Version 12 Build: 5808
Dreamweaver CS4 that I was using until this new purchase was working just fine. No file permisssion changes. I am being forced to go back to using it until Adobe posts a fix for this.
I should ask while I'm here: has anyone found a solution for this yet?
Thanks,

  • App-v 5 File Permissions, any changes on the horizon?

Hello, having now started to use App-v 5 in our test environment I am starting to see the pain that the new file permissions are going to cause us for applications that want to write outside the default install directory. I've followed Dan Gough's solution
to the problem but the fact the user still has to ok the initial error is not really good for user experience.
Are there any plans from Microsoft to look into these limitations?

As an FYI, I'm not in love with Dan Gough's solution (although it is extremely
clever), you can overcome the initial error by way of a publishing script.
What you have to remember is that you need to wait until after publishing is finished to implement the fix, but if you just run a standard pub script it won't work as publishing isn't finished yet.  However, you can do this-
    import-module AppvClient
    $package = Get-AppvClientPackage -name mypackage
    $i = 0
    #do {Write-Host $i; $i++; sleep(1)}
    do {sleep(1)}
    while ($package.IsPublishedToUser -eq $False)
    #Write-Host $i
#now run what you want, as publishing will now be completed
your deployment XML will Run the above ps1, but it needs to NOT wait.  We use the above script when we want an exe inside the package itself to 'autostart' immediately after being published.  We use a lot of non-persistent VDIs
so something as simple as a reboot isn't possible.
I used this as a test of Dan Gough's solution, and it did work for us.  You will still want the check under StartVE, in case the package is repaired (as an aside, it would be really nice if there were repair scripts).
Also its worth mentioning that App-V knows the folder was copied and original deleted.  If you run the fix, and issue another publishing command of that package, App-V throws an error, but the package is still usable.

  • When "Save Link As..." is used, file permissions are changed so that other users of the same computer have full access.

I have a laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate, and I'm not sure what's been changed in my Firefox, but now, every time I use "Save Link As...", the user permissions for the file have been set to include "USERS" which is then indicated by an icon in the bottom left corner of the file thumbnail. The icon is of the two people you see under "User Accounts and Family Safety" in the Control Panel.
I do remember a dialogue box coming up saying something about "This file originates from another computer and may be harmful..." or something along those lines when this problem first occurred.
I thought that problem would only occur for files from one website, but now, whenever I try using "Save Link As...", the user permissions for that file are incorrect.
If I open the link and download the file manually, it's perfectly fine.

It seems that the difference between the sites that will open and the one that won't is the Default Authentication provider is set to NTLM on those that open, and Negotiate (Kerberos) on the one that won't. The Authentication Provider for the Default zone
is Claims Based Authentication on all the sites, just site B (which won't open) is set to Negotiate (Kerberos), the others are set to NTLM.
Short term: can I change the provider to NTLM without destroying the site?
Long term: point me in the direction for setting up Kerberos correctly on my server/farm, as from what I can tell Kerberos is the recommended path forward. I'll setup a non-production test site and get it figured out.
    Thanks much.

  • Is it possible to get KM change file permissions event?

    Hi,
I would like to get in my code events when file permissions are changed.
Please could you answer or to advice some workaround if it's not possible?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There are no events for permission changes in KM.
You have to find some way of custom development for this. May be something related to security manager kind of. I am not so sure whether security manager helps.

  • How do I stop DW CS6 randomly changing file permissions via FTP?

How do I stop Dreamweaver CS6 12.0.1.5842 randomly changing file permissions when it uploads files to my web server via FTP.
I can no longer trust Dreamweaver to upload websites correctly as it changes permissions on some files which then deny the server access to the file which in turn makes the webpage unreachable/return a 403 error.
    This is driving me insane.

  • Permz - Quickly change file permissions in any file manager

Designed to be integrated into any file manager, permz is a bash script which presents a GUI menu.  You can use it to quickly change file permissions and ownership as a normal user or as root, and delete files as root.  I wrote this because I have yet to see a file manager that isn't cumbersome for this - the mechanism is usually buried on a second tab of the Properties window, and changing permissions often involves multiple clicks in a grid. To change the owner of a file, you need to type the username. And if the file is owned by root, you can't do anything.
    permz --help
Presents a GUI menu for changing file permissions/ownership. May be run
as a normal user or root.
    Requires: zenity gksu
Optional: sudo (recommended to prevent multiple root password prompts)
    Usage: permz FILE [...]
    MENU FUNCTIONS:
rwxrwxrwx Sets file(s) to given permissions
Sticky Clear/Set Performs "chmod -t" or +t to clear or set the sticky
bit. You may select to clear/set sticky in addition
    to changing other permissions.
    Recursive go-rxw "chmod -R go-rxw" on file(s) recursively, denying
    access to non-owners
Recursive go-w "chmod -R go-w" on file(s) recursively, denying write
    to non-owners
Recursive ugo+rX "chmod -R ugo+rX" giving read access to all. Also
sets +x for directories and executables.
Recursive ugo+w "chmod -R ugo+w" on file(s), giving write to all
(You may select several compatible recursive functions above at once)
Owner USER As ROOT Sets ownership to USER:USER as root
DELETE As ROOT Deletes file(s) as root. Must be used alone or with
"Perform Recursively" (to delete directories - USE
WITH CAUTION). Not available if permz is run as root.
Perform As ROOT Run as root to change selected permissions.
(Use of root is automatic when changing ownership)
Perform Recursively Adds -R to all chmod, chown, and delete commands to
descend into subdirectories. Use in conjunction with
any other functions. (Recursion is automatic for
    "Recursive" functions above)
Current su command is set to: gksu -gS
If you're somewhat familiar with bash, adding additional options or changing the existing ones is straightforward.
I have tested it pretty thoroughly but if you do encounter anything amiss please let me know.
    More details at http://igurublog.wordpress.com/downloads/script-permz/
And in the AUR at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36978
Instructions for integrating permz into PCManFM-Mod are here.

Done - thanks for the tip.  I also left the old code active in there with just the menu option disabled, so if anyone wants it the other way or wants both it's easy to enable.  The difference is that the old way won't make any files +x, just dirs.
permz doesn't provide every possible setting of permissions, just common ones, so you may want to customize it.  But I used to have these as user actions when I used Krusader and I found these were the handy ones, at least for me.

  • Can't Change Drobo-FS File Permissions

    Hi
About a week ago I bought a Drobo-FS and moved my rather large iTunes Library to it. The problem now is my file permissions on the iTunes folder. It says I have "Custom" access and won't let me change anything. Consequently I am having trouble backing up files.
I am using Lion on a relatively new iMac and Drobo-FS is connected via ethernet through my Time Machine.
Can anyone tell me how to correct this? I am not very knowledgeable on this subject so any advice please treat me as if I was a 10 year old.
    Thanks

    Thanks for reply ZeDBA,
I don't want to prevent auto starting. As 2769577 stated above that
"...You may not need to edit in oratab since it's automatically taken care by HAS in 11g..."
It is meaningful and perhaps it is the exact reason or solution.
Question is that, why I can't edit oratab file manually for ASM row? ' Not need ' and ' can't ' is different!!
    # The first and second fields are the system identifier and home
    # directory of the database respectively.  The third filed indicates
    # to the dbstart utility that the database should , "Y", or should not,
    # "N", be brought up at system boot time.
    # Multiple entries with the same $ORACLE_SID are not allowed.
+ASM:/u01/app/grid/product/11.2.0/grhome_1:N        # line added by Agent
    ora11g:/u01/app/oracle11g/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1:Y
If we assume the 2769577's answer is exactly correct, reason or solution. Then it means that the row "..
    +ASM:/u01/app/grid/product/11.2.0/grhome_1:N
    # line added by Agent
in oratab file is meaningless and unnecessary if HAS process enabled and automatically start the ASM.
Please clarify it, If I am wrong?
    Thanks!!!

  • Adobe Air Mac Change File Permissions

    Hi there
I have a Adobe Air app for MAC that downloads a zip file then decompresses it uzing the fzip library... After decompression i try executing a .app file with NativeProcess API... But after the decompression the file loses permission to execute enven if i try to manually execute the .app it doesn't open... But if I change the .app permissions with command line the .app opens even with the NativeProcess API.
So I would need to change the file permissions through Air API... or run a command-line to change ther permission through Air API.
I also have this application to Windows version (exe) and it works withou any problem. But in Mac when decompressing the file loses permissions.

... or launch /usr/bin/chmod to change the permissions (via NativeApp API) and then execute your .app?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Changing file permissions

Hi, does anybody have any idea how to change file permissions on a apache server. I have created ftp app that transfers file from a computer to a server and I need to change the file permissions to 0777. I'm using FileTransferClient from enterprisedt.
    Cheers
    Edited by: Ash3003 on Dec 10, 2008 2:24 AM

Hmm ok, im a little bit lost. The server is running a pretty complicated video broadcasting site that I dont have much to do with. the app im making encodes videos and uploads them to a import directory on the server. From there some type of program accepts them and puts them in the sites playlist. The problem is the program that accepts them has to have the permissions set to 0777 before it recognizes them. My app doesn't run on the server it only get files there. And as far as i know these are the only files that need the permissions to 0777. by changing the unmask on the server will that effect other files on the site.

I have inadvertently changed a file permission setting. When opening Aperture I get the following; "Aperture cannot access this library. To use this library make sure it's file permissions are set correctly". I am an old dude new to Mac OS. Looked in settings but have no idea how to allow file sharing to myself. I have been using Aperture actively for 6 weeks. I'm the only one using this Mac. What up?

    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 - FTP changing my file permissions on upload???

    ORIGINAL POST: SEPT 19, 2012  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4784335#4784335
Upgraded to cs6. All programs work perfect for me exceopt Dreamweaver.
I have never expierenced this challenge however no matter what file(s) I upload dreamwever is chanign the file permissions.
For instance if I upload an image to the sever the image won't appear. I check permissions and they are set to 0.  Same with files.
I have to now go in to each item I upload and change permissions to 644 or 755 depending if its a file or directory.
This is a Dreamweaver exclusive problem as it does not happen when I use Filezilla and Im working on 6 different servers.
ONLY when I upload files with Dreamweaver CS6 do the file permissions change on upload. Cs5.5 no problem.
    Any ideas?
    Aloha!
    STILL NOT WORKING UPDATE:
I was even on with India Adobe support doing a screen share and they watched in real time as I uploaded a file and Dreamweaver and it changed the permissions to 000. You can 'Get' a file with 775 permissions then 'Put' that same file and it will chanve to 000 permissions.
Support failed to address this problem after 30 days and never called back.
STILL NOT WORKING UPDATE: Changing ro SFTP seems to be a workaround.
See Full Discussion here as I posted in the wrong area. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4784335#4784335

I'm using DW6 version 12.2, and this problem is still happening.
The permissions are defaulting to 0664, where I need them to be 0644.  Every time I create a new file, it defaults to 0664, and I'm unable (not permitted) to view that file online until I go in, using another FTP program, and change the permissions to 0644... or manually go in the slow-poke way using DW6 Remote View -> [file name] -> Set Permissions.
Too bad there's no way to configure this in the Preferences area of DW6.

  • How to change file permissions on ULOG file??

    Hi
I'm trying to change the file permissions on the ULOG file. By default it's being created with rw-rw-rw- permissions, and so any user can overwrite it.
    I'm using Tuxedo 8.0 on HP-UX.
I've tried umask and that doesn't work. Nor does the PERM setting in the ubb file - looks like that is only for IPC structures.
I want it to be created with rw-r--r-- permissions so that only the tux administrator has write access.
    Thanks in advance.

We also encouter this problem. Seems like hard code. As it doesn't related to umask.
As workaround solution, you may want to set ULOGPFX inside UBBCONFIG file, and proteck the directry with access mode 700.
