File-roller file association problem

Hi,
I have a problem with file-roller file associations.
When I double-click on a file in file-roller it always asks which application to use.
For instance, If I double-click on a txt file from thunar it opens gvim automatically. But if I try from file-roller, from an archive, it asks which application to open with.
Same thing for pictures. Thunar starts mirage automatically but file-roller asks which application to start.
It seems that file-roller does not read .local/share/applications/defaults.list nor .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list. I tried to modify both but nothing changes.
I am not running gnome but openbox.
I also tried from cli gnome-open foo.txt and, like should be, it starts gvim.
Installing gnome-mime-data didn't solved the problem. Maybe I am missing something?
Still searching on google for a solution. If somebody had similar problem and knows how to solve please let me know.
Thank you very much and as always sorry for my bad English.

Hi,
The link is working... it's not a nautilus quirk. Try these examples:
FIRST EXAMPLE:
Login as root and edit mimeinfo.cache (In openSUSE, the linux distribution I'm using right now, this file is placed on /usr/share/applications).
su
gedit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
Search for audio/mpeg=
The first application I specify is going to be the program that File-Roller will use to open a compressed mp3 file.
Example:
audio/mpeg=totem.desktop;banshee-1.desktop;
This will open Totem...
audio/mpeg=banshee-1.desktop;totem.desktop;
This will open Banshee.
SECOND EXAMPLE:
$ su
$ gedit /usr/share/applications/defaults.list
Search for:
text/xml=MozillaFirefox.desktop
Replace to:
text/xml=gedit.desktop
This will open xml files with Gedit, instead of Firefox.
Good luck.

  • File-roller problem

Whenever I try to download a file and use an application to open it (such as fileroller or Gnome PDF viewer it seems to open fine (though file roller doesn't extract correctly) but I get this error...
    Failed to contact configuration server;
some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit,
or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash.
    See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information.
(Details -  1: IOR file '/tmp/gconfd-fincher/lock/ior' not opened successfully,
no gconfd located: No such file or directory
2: IOR file '/tmp/gconfd-fincher/lock/ior' not opened successfully,
no gconfd located: No such file or directory)
What can i do to fix this problem?

I don't know where I've read about this, but one of the last tar updates must have changed the file format slightly, which confuses some frontends. Perhaps just wait for a file-roller update.

A file association problem exists, which prevents the file you're trying to download from being associated with the correct application by the operating system
USING WINDOW 7  IE 11  HOW CAN I FIX???

    Try downloading the offline installers:
    Adobe Reader
Flash Player for Internet Exporer - ActiveX
Flash Player for Firefox - NPAPI

  • Older content debuggers file association problem...

I require to use the flash player content debugger stand alone to debug an application and examine traces....
The PC I am using (Windows 7 - 64 bit) came bundled with Flash Player 15, but not the content debugger.....
when examining the content debugger download page, I chose to download an older version of flash player content debugger,
but have found you now no longer provide them with installers but just stand alone exe's such as below....
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/13/flashplayer_13_sa_debug.exe
This meant that when I wanted to try and run a swf, the file type was permanently associated with
this debugger which I downloaded (the old one), I have since installed the latest versions of flash player content debuggers at version 15.
But my swf files are still associated to automatically open with the older version....
Can you please provide me with how to fix this or where the stand alone v15 flash player content debugger would be installed
    on a windows 7 - 64 bit OS?
Also why do you guys now not provide installers for your older players, seems silly to me?
Thanks very much for your time...

If I download the standalone player from https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html it says version 15, and I get version 15.0.0.189.

  • Since changing our computer I have been unable to download ebooks to my Reader Library I get a message Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library; Waterstones suggest that I may have accidentally created a new Adobe

When I try to download them from the Waterstones website I get a message saying:
‘Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library.  Do you want to associate them now?  When I reply yes I get another message; ‘Configuration error unable to update EPUB files check network firewall and try again’.
The ‘books’ are saved in the Download directory and I can’t transfer them from there to my E-Reader. I have not had any problems before, it was very simple; I saved the download and it automatically went into the Reader Library.
I contacted HP and they said it is a software error and suggested I contact Waterstones.  I contacted Waterstones Customer Support and got the following response:
As the error message is specifically mentioning the firewall it does sound like something in the firewall settings is stopping the download from taking place correctly. However, the files should not be being saved to the Download folder. It would be worth trying again by going to your Digital Order History on your Waterstones.com account and pressing the download button, and then making sure to press "Open" not "Save". When you press Open rather than Save it should give the option to open the file with Adobe Digital Editions. If the firewall message still comes up then I'm afraid something is blocking it on your end.
If the above "Open" download method works but you then still get an error message it could possibly be that you have accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up on the new computer, rather than signing in with your old Adobe ID. It would be worth trying the aforementioned download technique again first, but if problems did still persist it would be worth calling Adobe themselves on 0207 365 0735, as they should be able to sort out any account issue.
In response to the first para of Waterstones email I already do what they suggest I do press ‘Open’ not ‘Save’ but I don’t get the open with Adobe Digital Editions (we have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer. Waterstones say we may have ‘accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up the new computer’ does that mean that we shouldn’t have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer as it would have already been there? How do I sign in with my old Adobe ID?

Hi all after attampting to get some supoport from adobe by phone.... nice people infurating policys as far as support for digital editions or DRM is conserned... However I got no where with support.
I ended up instaling Digital editions on my desktop PC and going through the motions of registering and borrowing a book then returning it. Then I trying on my iPad, Bluefire worked, Over drive did not so I completely removed Overdrive and reinstalled and re registered. all working now.
Maybe some one at adobe did something. Maybe the install of the adobe DE client on a PC corrected what ever was out of wack with my account. Mayby the server that my account lives on did a scan disk and corrected a bad clustrer.
What ever happend My account is actiove and working again. hope this helps others.

    Thanks for the follow up.
Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,

  • I need to open a file with an associated programm.

I need to open a file with an associated programm.
    I'm looking for two solutions:
    1. for Linux/Solaris/Unix/...
    2. for Windows 95/98/Nt/2000
For Windows I have done this with command line
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler " + uSavePath);
but it doesn't work on windows2000. We need an universal solution.
    For linux
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("netscape openURL " + uSavePath);
But may be anybody know better solution?

You are right. For unix better solution is that my program to care about all association itself. As I undestend now it's a common solution for unix applications.
But for windows it will be ugly enough. I've found another way for windows
    Win2000/NT: "cmd /C start filename /B"
    other Wins: start filename
for linux I've stopped at doing this via Netscape.
May be in future I'll make my property file.
start filename - on Win95(may be 98/ME) returns -1 if file not assotiated with a programm, and doesn't shows openWith dialog. It solved using something like "rundll32 shell32, OpenWith filename"
It's all for those how will solve this problem in future.

  • File to file scenario problems

    Hi all,
not so far ago I install XI and it was seems to me that I did all post installation steps.
But when I try to do <a href="https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/FLAT%20FILE%20TO%20FLAT%20FILE">File to File scenario</a>, I receive error in audit log:
SOAPFault received from Integration Server. ErrorCode/Category: XIServer/IN_BIND_WRONG_ADPT; Params: File; AdditionalText:  ; ApplicationFaultMessage:  ; ErrorStack: Sender agreement found belongs to adapter File; however, current adapter is 'XI'
Transmitting the message to endpoint http://<xiserver>:8001/sap/xi/engine?type=entry using connection AFW failed, due to: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Received HTTP response code 500 : Error during conversion of XI message.
(<xiserver> - name of my server)
    Please help. Any ideas?
    Maxim.

    HI,
HTTP response code : 500 Internal Server Errors
Description: The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
Possible Tips: Have a look into SAP Notes – 804124, 807000
    From Notes :
<i>The problem can be solved in most cases by forcing the XI self-registration to use fully qualified host names.
For XI Integration Builder, Integration Engine and Runtime Workbench, you accomplish this by entering fully qualified host names in the XI Exchange Profile, then initiating a new self-registration (restarting the J2EE engine).
For the Adapter Engine, the approach is different: Change the properties "SLD.selfregistration.httpPort", "SLD.selfregistration.httpsPort" and "SLD.selfregistration.hostName" of the J2EE service SAP XI AF CPA Cache. Enter the fully qualified host name under which the Adapter Engine can be reached from all relevant network domains. Do this in the Visual Administrator of the J2EE Engine.  Then restart the applications "com.sap.aii.af.cpa.app" and "com.sap aii.af.app", or restart the complete J2EE engine. This triggers a new Adapter Engine self-registration.
Go in the Integration Server (IS) to transaction "SXI_CACHE -> Goto -> Adapter-Engine-Cache" and delete the old Adapter Engine cache entries. After that the cache is refreshed from SLD as soon as a new message in sent to the respective Adapter Engine.
Check: After restart, navigate in SLD through "Content Maintenance -> XIAdapter Framework" to your Adapter Engine.  As part of the "associated instances" you find e.g. at "XI  Adapter Service XIRA -> Associated Instances -> Port for XIRA of af.<SID>.<hostname>" the new URL with the fully qualified host name</i>

Hi, im using file-roller and i can only use drag and drop feature from file-roller when i use Icon View. If i select List View i cant drag and drop.
Is that an expected behavior or its a bug? Is there a patch or work around? (File Roller 2.20.1 and Gnome 2.20.2)
I think its a problem with file-roller cause in my other box, running ubuntu 7.10 i have the same problem, but i can drag and drop from ark even when using List View.
    Thx!

Well, sorry for the double post, but after a little research i found this is a bug, actually a not yet implemented feature. There is a patch and probably its going to be merged in next version.
Ill try to apply the patch myself, if it works could the maintainer Jan de Groot put it on the repository?

  • Gedit and file-roller unresponsive caused by theme with gtk 3.6.1

When running either gedit or file-roller my whole system becomes very "laggy". The applications themselves become unusable after opening and then crash. When running in the terminal there is no error message just the word "killed" once the app crashes. I do not know what these two apps have in common I have not found any other applications on my computer with this problem. I re-installed arch yesterday and this problem appeared. Help?
    Edit:
    I'm running gnome 3.6 with gnome-shell on a 64bit install

I am also having this severe memory leak with Gedit. The theme I'm using is called "Delorean" (dark) and has animations (buttons animate from released to pressed, pretty nice). Let me see if finding a theme without animations fixes the problem for me too...
EDIT: Yup. This was the problem with me too. I tried satya164's theme (above) without animations and now Gedit doesn't crash anymore.
@satya164, would you style the carets in your Evolve theme so they are slightly thicker than normal? It's possible to make carets have color and thicker than 1 pixel in the new Gnome. For example, a nice thick caret matching the same vibrant blue color as the scroll bars (when clicked and dragged) would be nice.
I wonder if this issue had to do with my entire desktop crashing periodically in Gnome 3.6.1. It's been happening every session after a while with multiple things open and running. Let's see if removing animations fixed it.
EDIT (couple days later): My Gnome Desktop still crashes, so it's not theme related.
You mean the carets in the Entry widget? I think it's not possible to theme carets.
TIP: If you like dark theme, try by setting "Use dark theme for all applications" in Tweak Tool to use Evolve's dark theme.

  • IPhoto says iPhone Camera Roll files can't be imported.

iPhoto says iPhone Camera Roll files can't be imported as they are 'unrecognised format' although are jpg.
Aperture and Bridge can't import them either so deduce problem is with iPhone Camera or Camera Roll.
Can import files to my MacPro from my DSLR and compact cameras - to iPhoto, Aperture and Bridge whether Raw or JPG.
iPhoto shows 221 imported photos and 357 un-imported photos as grey boxes.
iPhone software current version.  Have tried restarting.
Mac Pro using 10.6.8, 8GB Ram and masses of HD space - running very well.  Application software fully up-to-date.
    Ideas?
    Many thanks.

I saw a process that seemed to work,  in Iphoto , uncheck the " hide photos already imported box" which revealed the unimported photos in the camera roll, then simply select them and import them.
