File Save As versus Ctrl+Shift+S

Is there a way to make the menu function File>Save As and the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S behave the same exact way.
When using the menus, the file automatically opens with the new name. It also automatically makes it a PSD file (if something photoshoppy has been done to it). It also doesn't make it a copy.
When using the keyboard, you have to select the file type from the list. It doesn't automatically open the file with the new name (frustrating if you are still editing). And it always makes it a copy.
Is there a setting I have turned on or off? This behaviour runs through the CS5 suite, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
Please send any suggestions or tips to correct this. It is so much easier to use the keyboard short cuts but takes longer due to the behaviour.

Thank you for the responses. I suspect I haven't explained the situation very well. My first detailed explanation was deleted (by me after accidentally hitting Ctrl+A then delete; there isn't an undo in this forum...).
Let say for example I have opened a JPG called Image_Tree.jpg. I do some photoshoppy things to it, like add a layer and an effect.
If I press Ctrl+Shift+A, the Save As dialog opens. I change the file name to Image_Tree_Modified but the file type remains at JPG. I have to manually select PSD. It also automatically makes it a COPY. So I have to delete the word COPY from the file name. After clicking Save (or pressing Enter), my JPG file is still the one open in Photoshop. It doesn't automatically open the newly saved PSD file. I have to close the JPG and open the PSD. This can be a problem if I continue making edits to the image and accidentally press Ctrl+S without first opening the new PSD file. It overwrites the JPG file with my changes.
Now taking the same JPG file with the photoshoppy elements...
If I go to File>Save As, basically things behave in a way I would call normal. The file type is automatically set to PSD and the file IS NOT specified as a COPY. Also after clicking Save (or pressing Enter), my newly saved PSD file is automatically opened for me to continue working on it.
Maybe it is just me but I would expect the behavior between File>Save As and Ctrl+Shift+S to be exactly the same and they aren't. This is true for the products across the CS5 suite. Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
I have tweaked a few keyboard settings but only to make some hotkeys. For example, Ctrl+Shift+C is Image Crop on my computer. Ctrl+Q is Image Trim. Other than that, I have left the system the same as it was out of the box. In fact I had to replace my personal settings one time by renaming a file then launching Photoshop again. This undid all my personal settings. The only ones I have reset are the one mentioned above.
I hope this very long response (sorry for the length) helps explain better what I am noticing and asking.

Programmatic execution of Save All command (ctrl-shift-s)

I have a set of Projects, each configured with code for an RT target. I have written a VI server application to open each project, and open the front panel of the main VI for the RT target.
Once that front panel is up, I can go to the menu bar, select File, and then select Save All. However, I need to do this programmatically. With VI server, I only see Save->Instrument, which only saves the main VI, not all the subVIs. How do I do the equivalent of Save All?
I have tried getting the list of all opened VIs and saving them individually, and also tried the Mass Compile, but both of these take many hours to complete, whereas the manual Save All just takes a few seconds. I have also tried accessing the Windows utility USER32.DLL:keybd_event to press the ctrl-shift-s keys programmatically, but that doesn't seem to work either.

I believe the thread you linked will only save the vi's, if you have libraries or controls or other things you want to save then you might try this.

Can't opened elevated prompt with ctrl-shift-enter

Here's an odd one. I've seen it several times over the last year on different computers - all Windows 7, but both Home Premium and Pro. I believe all were 64 bit.
When I type cmd in the Search Programs and Files box and hit ctrl-shift-enter, it opens an explorer window showing c:\windows\system32.
The same thing happens if I type cmd.exe and and hit ctrl-shift-enter.
If I type command and and hit ctrl-shift-enter, then I get the elevated prompt, as it should do.
Anyone know how to fix this? SFC comes up fine, the machine has been scanned for infections.

Advanced Search (Ctrl+Shift+F) broken with Protected View = All Files Adobe Customization Wizard XI

I've updated Adobe Reader to version 11.0.09 and it was discovered that the Advanced Search (Ctrl+Shift+F) reports back errors on all words searched inside PDF document/
Reproduce:
1. Use Adobe Customization Wizard XI
2. Create a MST file for the Base Adobe Reader 11.0.0 MSI (AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi)
3. Under Security -> Protected View -> (Set to ALL FILES)
4. Save MST file
5. Install Adobe Reader XI using created MST File and then Install AdbeRdrUpd11009.msp
6. Open any PDF document and search for words using advanced search: (Ctrl+Shift+F) All searches return errors unable to display search.
The error can be reproduced and only occurs on Adobe Reader 11.0.09. None of the previous patches of Adobe had this issue.
The fix actually requires to remove and re-install Adobe Reader but with Protected View=OFF
Please can you confirm bug and report any solution or workaround so that Advanced Search works with Reader 11.0.09?

Ctrl-Shift-U uploading open file, not those selected in File window

I regularly use the quick-key of Ctrl-Shift-U to upload ("put") a file or files from the File window, but as of this morning it's instead uploading my open file. If I have no open files it does nothing. I can only assume I've accidentally changed an option somewhere, but Google isn't helping me figure out where it might have been. Any ideas? I'm using Dreamweaver CS6. Thanks!

1. Go into Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts
2. Choose "Files panel options menu" from the Commands dropdown
3. Click the + by Site
4. Scroll down to "Put" and verify that it's set to Ctrl + Shift + U

I had a neighbor one time who was annoyed that "that darn bolt on the bottom of my engine" kept scraping on the curb when he'd pull in or out of his driveway, so he ground it down till it was flat with the oil pan. It wasn't till about a year later when he took the car in to have the oil changed that he realized the error of his ways. Cost him $500 to have the pan pulled and replaced.

Working on a CS4 project in CS5.5 - Flash won't let me save FLA normally (ctrl+s)

I started working on a Flash project and I'll be moving it back and forth between two different computers. The project was originally started in Flash CS4. The other computer has Flash CS5.5 installed. So when in CS5.5 I save the fla as a CS4 version FLA.
I hit Save As... and then from the Save As Type pull-down menu I selected CS4 Fla document and I assumed that from then on I could just hit ctrl+s to save the project and it would maintain the CS4 version. But that isn't quite what's happening. Every time I hit ctrl+s a Flash Compatibility Warning pops up and tells me that I need to use Save As... and then Save As Type again to keep it a CS4 document.
So basically, from what I understand, when working on a CS4 project in CS5.5 - I can't use Save. I can only use Save as...
This is really annoying because I am accustomed to hitting ctrl+s pretty often.
And now EVERY TIME I wish to do a simple save, I need to hit ctrl+shift+s, then select CS4 from the Save As Type menu, then hit save, and then click YES when asked if to overwrite the previous file with the same name.
Is this a bug?

Cannot file, save as in Adobe Reader 9.1.2

I currently access my electricity and gas bill online and both of these are always displayed in pdf format. Unfortunately, since updating to reader 9.1.2, I am no longer able to see the toolbar menu, normally above the picture icon toolbar menu, so the File, Save As option is not visible. Therefore, I can no longer save my electricity and gas bills to my PC but instead can only print them which is slightly defeating the whole object of having my bills online! Can anyone explain why I am not able to see the File, Save As option at all? I have asked my Electricity and Gas provider and they tell me that they can see it fine at their end. They are currently using Adobe Reader version 7.

I have seen this type of message many times before when trying to save pdf files and it has successfully saved the file but for some reason nothing happens in this version of adobe reader. Do you have any other thoughts at all as to how to solve this?

File save as in Forms6i

I understand from other topics here, that i would need d2kwutil.pll to use the win_api_dialog.save_file function. Well i am using forms6i, so does anyone know the equivalent of this pll in Forms6i. I have used D2tx, which i found along with bankapp and port_container. This does not work.

I have a link on my html page which opens the pdf file in html pooup window.
I know if pdf is visible in browswr window its already in browser cache. I am ok with it.
But what I want I dont want to give any other option to the user to save the pdf through the opened html popup.
Solution I implement:-
1) Hidden the menu bar of html popup.
2) Hidden the menu bar of acrobat reader's plug in.
So now user do not have any visible option to save the pdf.
Problem:-
If user presses the (ctrl+shift+s) to save as prompt window pops up.
Can I restrict this.
Is their any type of setting/command in adobe acrobat which I can implement in my pdf which disables the save as commnad of adobe reader pluhgin.

Your post is more appropriate for the Acrobat forum and in particular the Acrobat Script forum. You probably need to have a script that will process any input. However, if Acrobat/Reader's Javascript support is disabled, then any scripting solution will not work.

I have an pdf document which opens in a popup window. I dont want it to be saved to user system.
I know that first this file will download to cache and this can not be prevented. Its okey.
I have hidden the brower file bar and acrobat reader's save bar. So user do not have any visible option to save the pdf
But when he press (ctrl+shift+s) the save as prompt window pops up. Can I stop this.
I do have the acrobat. Is their any option in acrobat which can disable the reader plug's save as commnad

Ctrl-Shift Keyboard Shortcuts Broken

I switch layout with Ctrl+Shift. And have a little trouble. When i try:
Reopen recent tab in Chrome/Firefox (Ctrl+Shift+T)
Select previous tab in Chrome/Firefox (Ctrl+Shift+Tab)
I get just new tab in the first case, and select next tab in the second. This changes the layout. So, performs the action, as if the Shift key not pressed.
Looking for a solution I found that this is common problem. Not only for browsers... ( http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5592 … -linux-kde )

in short, you must get sources of xserver by using abs, save there patch file from article, modify PKGBUILD to apply this patch.
Reason is, xserver switches keyboard "onkeypress" while it should do "onkeyrelease". This bug is mentioned in 2006 and not fixed since that because it will lead to change xserver's specs.
P.S. patch in article is for 1.12.xx, but it worked with 1.16.1 for me.

Automatic file save on upload

I have created a site through Site Manager, and selected Automatically upload files on Save in the Server section.
After initially creating the site, this works fine. However, once I exit Dreamweaver and restart working on the project, this function seems to be hit and miss.
I have made sure that I am connected to my server through the Files panel, but most of the time I end up having to manually Put the files on the server. I have tried Synchronize, and it recognizes the changes I have made, but still the auto upload feature does not work.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am using Dreamweaver CC 2014.

This may not be the answer you had hoped for but IMO the auto upload feature on save is dangerous and should be permanently deactivated in DW. It's just too easy to make mistakes with this kind of workflow. It takes no time at all to hit Ctrl+S to save a document and Ctrl+Shift+U to upload it.

File Save Dialogue

With previous versions, I would use hot key Shift+Command+S to save as - it would open file save dialogue (looked like mac OS) and I could choose location (by default it was in same location) and I could rename and save/ replace.
With Pro DC update, I hit a new adobe looking window that gives me redundant options that I have to choose and then I have to click from this new folder list or hit the blue button that says "choose a different folder" and then I can get to the normal file save dialogue what we are used to.
This is inefficient and redundant for me - can an option please be added to remove this dialogue. Thank you.
