File saving issues in CS6

I have recently upgraded from CS4 to CS6.  After editing a jpeg, I try the Save As command and recieve this message...."could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory RAM"
I also notice that all my images are at 72 dpi, is this going to affect image quality?  I shoot in the largest file possible when taking the photographs.  Help, I feel like I no longer understand photoshop

You can do that no problem.

  • Saving issues with CS6

Is there an issue with saving in InDesign CS6?  I keep trying to want to "Save" after I make a slight change and the software keeps trying to "Save As" and create a new file.  I will not allow me to save over the old file and it's annoying the hell out of me.

No 3rd party plug-ins.  I don't have any utilities running in the background.
The read only issue I think is the reason.  I'll check on it and get back to you on what I find.
If this is the cause, then would this be a bug with ID?  Why would a file I created on an accessible drive on my desktop or server open up as a "Read Only"?

  • Internet file saving issues

I used to be able to save files from the internet to my desktop, but am suddenly unable to do so. I have used both Safari and Firefox browsers running on Roadrunner. When I try to save email messages (usually AOL) no messages are actually saved, just a link to AOL. Sometimes web pages save, but usually not, and there does not seem to be a pattern. Even when I select to save "web complete" settings, it fails to save the accompanying folder with the content info. AOL tech say its an Apple issue. Anybody else having this problem? Any ideas? This is a feature I have relied on over the years to let me read info and mail 'offline' without having to venture back into cyberspace.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • File saved in Photoshop CS6 "incompatible" when opened on same computer?!

For the first time yesterday I saved 3 PSD files, (about 760Mb each, large flat 16bit background-only PSD's)  and then have them refuse to open in the same version of Photoshop CS6, Windows 8/64, that they were just made in, an hour later. I just see the dialog warning that they are 'incompatible with this program' ?!
I don't understand how a file can be saved incompatibly with the program that saves it. Is this a bug?  First time I've seen it, if so & do not use any other versions of Photoshop or any other machines for that matter. Am very confused why this happens.
Have reset compatibility mode to 'Always'  (though I don't see why I should have to do this)  and am hoping it doesnt go and happen on some critical save of another file.  My hard drive Raid array is working fine, and I have never had a problem with storage, so its not a random hard drive error, as it happened 3 times in a row.
Saving the same file just now as a TIFF (it has no layers) gave no problem. Guess I'll avoid PSDs without layers for now.

Just to be absolutely sure, it's always a good idea to take a look in your Windows Event Log to see whether any new events have appeared.

  • Thumbnails in Bridge lost in files saved with AE CS6

On Windows I have some templates (aet) from AE 7 and CS3 that include thumbnails in the XMP, and Bridge CS6 shows these.  If I open these templates in AE CS6 and save them out, no thumbnail is preserved/added to the XMP.
I looked through the preferences for AE CS6 and I can't find anything related to saving out previews/thumbnails in the XMP for a project or template.
Is there a setting that will allow me to get thumbnails in the XMP that I would see in Bridge?  Was this a capability that was dropped some time between CS3 and CS6?
    David Blake

I can contact my customer and see if he wants to contact you about his templates that have thumbnails.
The files I am testing with are from Adobe Exchange.  The metadata in the file doesn't indicate who they are from or who created them.  The thumbs are in the screenshot below.

  • Will CS7 files saved as legacy CS6 be ok re-saved as CS7?

Students who bought Creative Cloud are getting messages that their files (Id, with other CS linked files) won't open in CS6 here at the college. If they go home and save the files as CS6, work on them here, what are the consequences of them working on them again under CS7?

You may need some schooling on schooling. I can mention it to the Dean, but he's quite busy and this is not his department. This is a purchasing policy set at a level well beyond any academic's pay grade. We could make an adventure, or challenge, or crusade out of it, and I have on other similar issues, such as service contracts which are (perversely) required for hardware that is obsolete during the contract period.
The case at hand bears on a common accounting principle. Owning is an asset. Leasing is a liability. I love to go where everything is headed, unless it's up against a wall.
We taught on CS1 until last semester. Really. We finally got a grant to upgrade from CS1 and PPC Macs. It will be a long time before we upgrade again. That's typical of colleges, just ask.
The students can demand what they want, but they're glad (and at this point, lucky) to get into a class at all. Our college runs at >100% enrollment, with salaries frozen for years and no expansion of programs, including upgrades. The students graduate with crushing debt, so a one year rental contract is not something they want to sign up for, even if it costs less nine months after they've taken the class, a calculation I'm sure you'll understand. (They used to buy the CS Premium package through Adobe for $354 outright or get it ways we won't mention.) Economic reality really should play a part in Adobe's revenue model.

  • IDCS4 and Mac Servers - File Saving issues

seems intermittent but.... we have a Mac G5 running Server 10.5.5 where we store all of our customer artwork/files. We use iMacs as workstations (up-to-date on system as well) and access our files with them. Opening a file works fine but when I hit CMD-S to save it asks me where to save instead of just saving the file.
though in some testing today it seems fine. anybody else seen this?

  • Saving issue in CS6 Extended

For some reason, some times when I am saving a file I will get an error message stating that the "file cannot be saved as it is in use by another program". The problem lies in that there is not another program open, let alone running the file that I am currently using. Many times Bridge is the only other program even running. This doesn't happen all the time, but more often than not and it is incredibly frustrating because I end up having to attempt to save at least 3 times before it decides to actually do the deed and nothing will have actually changed. No programs closed or anything, just at least 3 seperate attempts to save before it does. I would appreciate any advice or fix, this has been going on since I purchased and after a couple months and a few updates I just don't know what else to do.

Sometimes you get this message if you have Windows Indexing checked and it is in the process of indexing.  Sometimes that can take a long time.
Unless you like the indexing function you might want to disable it, at least for you image files, and see if that solves problem.

  • File saving in Indesign CS6

I was just working on a file and saved it. Not only did it save to the folder where the file is located, it updated the backup file on  a completely separate disc which I did not want. How do I prevent this from happening? Thanks.

How does the backup disk work? Do you have some sort of automatic backup system that scans your drives looking for modified files? That's the only way I can think of that a backup file would be modified.
To be sure old backup versions are protected in a situation like that, you should periodiocally  (like as soon as you open a file, and at each major change point) do a Save AS to a new file that includes a version designation in the name.

  • File Saving Issue

All yesterday I noticed an issue that has never occurred before. Whenever I save, save as or export, I get a pop-up that says "Replace Files" and it lists the files in the directory. Then if I select replace, it replaces the file, but also saves another one with a -01 after the filename. (Example: filename.eps and filename-01.eps) Normally, I hit ctrl+s and it just saves. Now it does this replace file thing every time. Additionally, it does the same thing when I save as PDF, or export to JPEG. Is this something that I can turn off? I couldn't find it in preferences or anything. I've attached a pic of the message.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Which version of Illustrator are you using? Seems like I remember something like this, but it was back in version 8-10 or so. It's been a long time, so I can't remember what the cause/solution was.
Does it occur with all files, or just the one you are currently working on? Try creating a brand new doc, save it, close it, then re-open and try to make revisions and re-save. Did it happen again?
Could possibly be a file permission problem, but I don't think so since you were able to save to the original file along with the extra one with the "-01".

  • Corrupt file/saving issues

Keynote suddenly wants to save every time I make a change. It is paralyzing, saving every ten seconds. This only happens with one file, others are normal, so it must be corrupt. Tried pasting all the slides  into a new file. Nothing. How does one uncorrupt a file?
Mahalo nui loa—that’s our Hawaiian thank you for helping!

After fussing for hours, I discovered it was the presence of a QuickTime movie I had placed on one slide that was causing my grief. I removed the movie, edited the other slides without the hassle of constant saving, and then put the movie back in place when I was done.
Hope this helps others facing this saving glitch.

  • Excel file saving issue

I have an excel file on my OSX Server. When I opening from the server window, I can modify the file and save it. If I take that file and make an alias on my dock, I can open it, modify it but O have to save it with a different filename. I have also noticed that when I open it via the alias it add a number to the end of the filename in the document header (filename1.xlsx). If I close it and open it again it increases the number by one (filename2.xlsx) and so on. I have to delete the old file to save the new file in it's place on the server.  This is a relatively new problem since updating to maverick.

Need a little help with an excel issue:
One of my end users has a program that exports a file that she opens with excel and then saves it as filename.trn - She normally was able to save it with quotations around it as "filename.trn" and it would force it with this TRN file extension but the other day this stopped working.  Now when she saves it as "filename.trn" it actually ends up being filename.trn.xlsx.  I was able to log in with a different domain account on her computer and do this task with no problem so I'm kinda lost here.  Anyone have an idea why this started behaving this way and how to fix it?

  • Email image/file saving issue

    Hi
My iPad has just been up dated to iOS 8.1.1
I cant find anyone else online who seems to be having the same issue so lets see.
I have attachments/files/images in emails that I want to save to the ipad. The old style that still just show the file work fine but the previewed images I am having issues with.
I am having trouble with a PDF image of a seating chart, the new iOS is showing a preview of the image at the bottom of the email (as a pose to where you use to click the file and then it would preview and you could save from there).
Now when I press it the little box should pop up with the options i.e. save, print, open with documents etc but the box is not there. Now I can tell the box is active because I am unable to press anything within the email app such as inbox delete nothing works so I know that the box should be showing. Sometimes the mail app will crash, if I close it and reopen it normally sometimes the little box flashes up then disappears within a second.
Please tell me someone has found a solution to this problem as this is really going to screw up my work!
Also please don't tell me to visit my 'local' apple store as its hours away and you have to book an appointment like a week in advance, so that's not going to happen.
Any helpful info would be great appreciated

I am aware of how to open it in documents or save it. The problem is the Open with box is not showing up since the 8.1.1 update, it's obviously there because I can't press anything on the screen and sometimes if I press the home button and go back onto mail it shows for a millisecond and disappears

  • Illustrator CS file saving issues

Since migrating to Vista from XP, my Illustrator CS will not allow me to save documents.  Every time I try to save, an error message comes up reading "This is a read only file or it is open in another program", which it is not.  I must use a save-as every time I save which creates many versions.  I also cannot delete these files (same error message).  Has this happened to anyone else?  Are there any fixes?

Turn off UAC and promote yourself to administrative priviliges or adjust your group policies accordingly. Legacy software is not aware of Vista's security stuff and will not correctly be able to request the respective file handling commands, hence existing files cannot be modified. To salvage you files already in place, log in as admin, select them, right-click --> Properties --> Security --> Advanced --> Take ownership. You should then be able to at least manipulate them as admin.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 file saving proterties

I am currently using Photoshop Elements 11 trail version to decide if I like it enough to upgrade.
Yesterday, while saving my files - .jpg, .png, psd - etc - when I'd go to access the file to upload, it wouldn't recognize the file.
Then when I went back into PSE 11 to open the file, it wouldn't recognize the file format, no matter what
I have went ahead & uninstalled the program, then restarted my computer, reinstalled & it's doing the same thing.
If this is a known issue, I certainly have no desire to upgrade. I use PSE 8 previously with zero problems.
Please, if anyone can answer why this is happening, I'd really appreciate it.
As for PSE 11 - I do feel, aside from this file saving issue, Adobe got so many things right - I love how PSE 11 has been changed, it's much easier to use, but this file issue, I don't have time for it when my clients are expecting turn around times from me.
    Thanks much!
    Tori

Thank you for all your responses.
First let me start off with, I am not new to saving files. I've been designing & saving files for over 10+ yrs. I've never ran into this problem with any program until using PSE 11. All my files were saving perfectly fine. This problem just started yesterday with PSE 11 for me. That's why I uninstalled, restarted & reinstalled with a restart after the install.
When I go to save a file, these are my steps
    1. File
    2. Save as
    3. Name of the file (no characters - only using letters, maybe letters & numbers in combination together)
    4. I select what format I wish to save it in.
    5. Click save
When I did this yesterday, my files were appearing to save, but actually, they were not saving no matter what format I was trying to save that as.
How I found out this was happeneing - I went to upload a file to the web - I was then told the file was not a proper file format. I tried various things such as saving as a png, jpeg, tiff, gif - not of which were working. That's when I uninstalled PSE 11 & as said above, reinstalled, etc.
Screen shot below shows what the icons ended up being - problem right there!
What message I get when I try to open the file
Message I get when I try to upload the file to the web
This is WHY I feel this is a problem with the particular PSE 11 I'm using (downloaded directly from Adobe's site) It's a trial vertson. And I always try to try programs before I invest in them, no matter if they're $20 or $500
I hope all this will help thos of you trying to answer this mystrey question for me. As I mentioned, I've never had this happen before.
Today - it seems to be saving just fine..... and I haven't changed how I save files at all. If this is a known issue with PSE 11, I just wish to know so I don't waste my money on it. I love all the changes Adobe has made to PSE 11, but if it's full of bugs - I'd rather pass is all.
    Thanks so much once again!
