File sending via Bonjour fails in 10.8.1 Messages app

After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.1, we are unable to share files via Messages app over Bonjour. We have both (the two people doing this) upgraded to 10.8.1, we've both tried rebooting, no change. We try to send the file, then after about 10 seconds, the File Transfers screen shows Failed for the transfer. Regardless of which direction we're trying to send the file, him to me, or vice versa.
However, I AM able to send files to another user that is not on 10.8.1 over the same Bonjour network.
There are no messages showing in the Console when this happens.
Any ideas?

Everything in Messages works fine for us.
The only thing, we can't transfer files in our own network via Bonjour. Either the file does not arrive and you see only one bubble or you can see the file name, but after starting the download you receive the message "failed".
Via the normal Message service it works (e.g. to one iPhone).
Any idea?

If you want to convert from IDoc to flat-file format you need to use an XSLT mapping that outputs to text format (use : <xsl:output method="text"/>).Use the plain HTTP adapter and set the protocol to HTTPS. I do not think it is possible to use the Graphical mapper in XI to convert XML to text.
As for configuring the HTTPS settings , I suggest reading the following documentation from SAP:

Kerberos via Bonjour fails (Mac OSX Server 10.6.2)

we setup an test-environment with server and clients (all running 10.6.2).
we had added also "non apple" server-machines (debian linux, windows) successfully.
the desired setup is to have SSO via Kerberos and managing users in the open directoy on a mac-server. A sync with "mobile accounts", timemachine etc. works.
anyway I am stucked with the Bonjour advertisements under "shares" in Finder. It seems that Bonjour does not advertise the "FQDN" of the mac-server but only the hostname. So connecting to the server in Finder via browsing fails although a Kerberos ticket availiable.
Using cmd+K and connect to "afp://server.domain.com" (so using the FQDN) works, the connection is established via the Kerberos ticket.
I had a similar problem when integrating the linux boxes. Here "Avahi" is used to broadcast the FQDN so the connection can be done (aka the Kerberos ticket is used).
How can I have the same thing in Bonjour, mostly just changing the advertised hostname for an entry ?

You have probably seen this in your searches, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/322/322391.html, where Adobe states,
"If you use Photoshop CS without Adobe Creative Suite or Photoshop 7 or earlier, Adobe Technical Support strongly recommends working in Photoshop directly on the local hard disk to prevent data loss. Save files to your hard disk first and then transfer them to the network or removable drive in the Finder or in the Windows Explorer. To retrieve files, copy them in the Finder or in the Windows Explorer from the network or removable drive to your hard disk then open the files in Photoshop. This will also avoid problems that may come from differing network system setups (for example, Windows NT Server, Netware, or AppleTalk) and removable media device drivers not being completely compatible with the operating system or Photoshop."
If you are just supporting Apple boxes what about this as a work-around?
1) Attach an action to a local folder. That action would copy any aded file to a network folder of your liking.
2) Set up an Applescript to copy the file from the network to the local directory set up in step 1. You could go further and even have the Applescript open the file in the appropriate application.
Additionally, if you are supporting just 10.6 clients, you could set up a File Service using Automator so that the client could just control-click on the network file and trigger the Applescript.
I imagine a similar type work-around could be setup for Windows boxes also.

Files transferred via Bonjour have 'Created' and 'Modified' dates changed

Okay, So I drag a file or folder of files to a name in the bonjour window to initiate a file transfer session between me and a co-worker. The transfer goes just fine; however, the "created", "modified", and "last opened" dates have all changed to the time when the file was transferred.
I have never noticed this before. Or, perhaps I just never had reason to view the time stamps.
I have tried transferring files to/from several different workstations running various system configurations. The results all seem the same. ALL the dates in the Get Info window are CHANGED!
What the heck?? Anyone?

If it is a transferred file that is new to that computer then it is likely the modified date will be changed.
I am not sure about the Created date in these circumstances

HT5824 How do I delete files from the message app

I need to delete files that are stored in the memory of the message app. This app is starting to take up to much space on my phone and I can not get rid of them. I can see the files by using Dr. Fone and a lot of the space is used by pics I sent in the past, years ago, but it will not let me delete them.I keep this app pretty clean and close out all unused conversations on a regular basis, but the **** phone keeps storing it. I also use phone clean that works great with all other apps but the message app, that app doesn't show up at all on that software.Can some PLEASE help with this? No one seems to have the answer except for a full reset which I really don't want to go thru the hassle of that.

I guess I was expecting to talk to people that new what they were talking about. All I did was ask a simple question and got nothing back from you that would solve the problem. Sorry but your sugestions did not help me. I'll wait to see if I get any other feed back. Don't get me wrong as I do appreciate your input, but it's not solving my problem. Why is apple making it so hard to get into the memory of this one app? I have never had a phone that I could not access all data until I got an iphone.

Can you describe what “the operation is failing” means? What is happening and how is it different than what you expect?
Also, what product are you trying to update manually, and do you have a link to the page of instructions, so we know what your attempting to do?

Changing the file name of a PDF you send via email

Hello Support,
I am trying to find out how to change the file name of the attachment I send via email when I click submit via email. I would like the file to be sent with the file name, not some other file name.
How can I fix it? This is very urgent! I need HELP!

you can't.
Except you save the file under a different name before you send it.

Sending files in ichat bonjour

My son and I both have iBooks and we use iChat (text) to exchange files. Most of the time, there is no problem, but sometimes there is. Normally, the first transfer works fine. A bit later, often after leaving the chat idle for a bit, we attempt another transfer. That one often hangs. If we both quit out of iChat (using force quit on the receiving end) and restart, the transfer usually works.
The sender's transfer dialog says "waiting for xxx to accept"; the receiver's dialog just sits there trying to start up.
We are using bonjour over a home network. We have an airport base station and an airport express in the house. We do have firewalls on the computers with ports open so we can do bonjour and file transfers (bonjour ichat works with some ports open, but the file transfer in bonjour doesn't work without opening more ports; all of these are open).

Hi Liz,
iChat has problems if there are two DHCP servers on the network at your end.
Go to System Preferences > Network
Use the second drop down to select the connection method you are using.
Then select the TCP/IP tab as the front one.
This will tell you if the Mac is expecting a DHCP issued IP (Using DHCP).
It will also tell you the IP you are getting.
Do this when connected to the Airport devices.
Repeat when connected to the modem directly.
The Airport should give you an IP of 10.0.1.xxx, where xxx is a number between 3 and 255.
The modem will give you a different number.
You can log on to the Airport device with the Airport Admin Utility and looking in the Internet tab.
This screen will tell you the IP from the modem as well with out disconnecting from the Airport if connecting to the modem is impossible.
Can you tell me the first three numbers on the modem's IP ?

Open the file in Preview and select "Save as..." from the File menu. Select "Reduce File Size" from the Quartz Filter menu and save. The size probably won't be reduced enough, though. You may have to split the file into several parts and mail them separately. Or upload it to a web server and send the link.

My Error: I found out that it was Mozilla Thunderbird that was causing the problem. I uninstalled it and the problem went away.

It doesn't sound like the PDF was password protected (or Adobe Reader would prompt you for a password). Instead, it sounds like that file may be marked locked by your operating system. Are you on Mac OS or Windows? In either case, here are instructions for removing the lock icon from the file:
Remove the Lock Icon from a Folder in Windows 7 (check Microsoft's website if you have a different version of Windows)
On Mac OS, select the file in the Finder, and choose File > Get Info. Then, just deselect the Lock checkbox.
