File shares disconect / drop out
Once an hour or so the shares on my win 8.1 client drop out then reconnect. It is very problematic for sensitive connected apps like Access. The shares are from a Win Server 2008 SP2.
Any thoughts on what is causing this. No-one else has the issue in my office, and they all use Win 7. It happens when I'm connecting via vpn from outside the office too, hence probably not a cable issue.
Hi,
Did you get some error message?
I suggest you check the event viewer to see if some error log appeared when the issue occurred.
Also, upload it so that we can help you analyze them.
In addition, use other Windows 8.1 pc to test it.
In some cases, some hardware or network drivers caused this issue.
I suggest you update all drivers to check the result.
Keep post.

File Name Associations Drop Out When Changing Project Name
Posting on behalf of a colleague. He's using Robohelp X5 on a
Windows XP computer.
"We have frequent occasions in which we must take an existing
online help project (ABC_001, for example), make some
tweaks/additions/omissions, and release a revised online help
project (ABC_002). We have been cloning the existing help project
(ABC_001), renaming the project, making the necessary changes to
the help project, adding or deleting map IDs in .hh files as
necessary, importing revised .hh files as necessary, and then
releasing the project under the new name. We want to maintain map
ID numbers and assignments (25ANG1, Map #: 640, File name:
Synchronism Check#25ANG1) from ABC_001 to ABC_002, but the File
name associations drop out when we change the project name. It is
then a laborious process to go through the list and reassign all
the topics to the appropriate File names. Is there any way to
maintain topic labels with their map ID numbers and their File name
associations from one project to another?"
TIAMy colleague's reply:
"I discovered that it requires just one more step in the help
project before I can actually see the file name
associations/aliases again. I have to recompile, as Colum
recommended, but then I have to close down RoboHelp and reopen the
project. Then, if I am in Project View and navigate to
Context-Sensitive Help/Map Files/All Map IDs, I can see all of the
file name associations again. Thank you, Colum, for your
help!" -

AlwaysOn Cluster reboot due to file share witness unavailability
Hi Team,
Anyone came across this scenario in AlwaysOn Availability Group (two node), file share witness times out and RHS terminate and cause the cluster node to reboot. File share witness is for continuous
failover and if the resource is unavailable my expectation was that it should go offline and should not impact Server or Sql Server. But its rebooting the cluster node to rectify the issue.
Configuration
Windows Server 2012 R2 (VMs) - two node, file share witness (nfs)
Sql Server 2012 SP2
Errors
A component on the server did not respond in a timely fashion. This caused the cluster resource 'File Share Witness' (resource type 'File Share Witness', DLL 'clusres2.dll') to
exceed its time-out threshold. As part of cluster health detection, recovery actions will be taken. The cluster will try to automatically recover by terminating and restarting the Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process that is running this resource. Verify
that the underlying infrastructure (such as storage, networking, or services) that are associated with the resource are functioning correctly.
The cluster Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process was terminated and will be restarted. This is typically associated with cluster health detection and recovery of a resource.
Refer to the System event log to determine which resource and resource DLL is causing the issue.
Thanks,
-SreejitGThanks Elden, We were using DFS name for the file share! We gave the actual file share name and looks good now.
Few interesting facts, the failure happens exactly between window 12:30 PM to 1:30 AM and it never recorded any error specific to DFS! Not sure if there was any daily maintenance or task happens during the window pertaining to DFS.
+ DFS is not supported or recommended by Microsoft
Do not use a file share that is part of a Distributed File System (DFS) Namespace.

Hi there,
I have an HP desktop that I’ve edited two feature films on, the first shot on the HVX200 (edited with CS4) and the second shot on the Canon 5D (edited with CS5). About to edit a new feature, shot at 4K on the Red Scarlet, using CS5.5.
I THINK I know what needs to happen here, but basically, at anything higher than 1/8 resolution, the footage is playing back slow, and then, when I synch up with my .wav sound files, the sound is dropping out after a second (unless I scale to frame in the timeline only, in which case the render bar goes from red to yellow and the sound remains, even if the picture is still choppy). Basically married image and sound will not play back properly unrendered.
So, I guess what I’m asking is: does this sound like a RAM issue? Should I go for 16? I currently have 8. There’s a lot going on on this computer. (Specs are below.)
One final question, albeit a more minor one: why does the frame Fit properly in the Source Monitor but need a Scale to Fit instruction every time to fill the Project Monitor? Is there a way to make an entire Sequence Scale to Fit permanently?
Again, my computer specs are below.
Thanks!
Stephen
HP Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz
918 GB
8.0 GB Physical Memory
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (64-bit)
Service Pack 2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (recently updated)
512 MB Memory (since updated to CS5.5 specifications)There is still not enough ram in the listed PC, and the 530 is a poor choice. Nvidia list the memory type as DDR3, where you want a card with DDR5. You can get a suitable system for close to the price that is listed. You want to look at Harms hardware guide, and likely shop a custom builder.
You want
CoreI7 or high end I5
Minimum 12 gb memory for HD editing
Minimum 2 physical drives (system & media)
gtx card with at least 1gb ddr5 memory.( I would shop for more memory for 4K footage ) The more CUDA core, the better.
I spent a little more than you or I really wanted to spend on my CS5.5 box $1400 However it works brilliantly.
Core I5 2500k
16gb memory
2x 74GB 10K raptor drives raid0 system drives
2TB media drive
GTX 560Ti 1GB with 384 CUDA cores.
You could shave this system down to under $1k for something that works great.
The GTX555 seems like the base level card to me. A GT or lower spec card might be a gamble.
Look at gamer machine builders rather than prebuilt desktops. They let you choose parts. That is where to start shopping. -
I opened a Premiere Pro project I was working on earlier today and it said it couldn't find the preview files, searching my system found that the files didn't exist.
Rendering my entire work area brings up the "render window" but nothing happens, if I press cancel Premiere freezes.
Started getting a strange situation error ( 26 ::139 ) in After Effects at the same time that Premiere lost the preview files and the crashes started happening. It disallows me from editing any dynamically linked projects. In Premiere the DL's just show up as "Media Pending" clips indefinitely. Importing the compositions in AE into a new project didn't fix the issue either.
The three problems above started happening all at the same time, was working through a color grade using Red Giant software when it started happening.
Also audio drops out on playback randomly in Premiere Pro, tried various audio drivers and hardware, none entirely eliminate this problem. Sometimes the audio will cut out and "burst in" distorted very loudly, which is disturbing, even when my work area is rendered. This problem has been around since I started using PP CC.
I can provide more info soon or if people want more info pls let me know, I'm very tired and I need to get this issue resolved for tomorrow, in the mean time hopefully someone can point out a general fix for these errors or knows a few workarounds. Tried reinstalling PP and AE, no luck.
Computer is a Windows 7, 64-bit. i7 950, 12gb RAM, GeForce GTX 650, programs installed on a separate internal HDD, media files on another internal HDD. But these same issues (minus the audio dropouts) was also cropping up on a core 2 duo 13'' macbook pro.
Regards,
ZachHi Arjun, thank you for your help.
Though that didn't work either. At least the timeline will playback but as soon as I try to render my work region or export any video Premiere freezes.
I removed all dynamic linked files as well, that didn't seem to change anything.
Something I noticed -- the render bar on the timeline that is usually yellow for edited clips that have no FX on them is all red, nothing is yellow (or green). This is a 4 minute long edit on a music video, nothing extraordinary.
I tried creating a new project and dragging a few clips in and editing them, everything went normally and I could render and export the clips. Just any rendering done on any version of this music video edit I'm working on crashes the program.
Also recently had a problem where I opened the music video project and the song that I imported (.mp3) all of a sudden has no waveform or sound coming from it. Dragging it back into the project doesn't fix it either. Workaround was using a .wav copy of the song.

Audio Drop out when editing in Waveform / No Multi track File
Ok so i have a bigger problem. Therefore thats why i am reposting.
I have a 40 minutes video and the last scene needs alot of audio editing. I am trying to export the 8 minute scene to a Multi Track project for soundtrack pro. When i click send to multi track project, i click "Include background video" however when i click save, it exports then gives me the error "Error Sending Selection to Soundtrack Pro" however when I uncheck the "include background video" i am able to open up soundtrack pro and see all the audio tracks but the video is absent.
Its just the multi track that i am unable to do. I am able to export as a Audio File Project and still the video. However when i try to do nosie reduction the audio plays for a few seconds then stops.Hi Luis,
Thank you for that.
Seems like you have a point about the "hardware" issue. I'm unsure (new to it all) at what data rate my (er...wonderful) fusion drive provides FCPX for smooth playback - or where I can find that info on the iMac. Playing back movies in the 422 HQ codec seems to have no issues (when I converted the movie from 4444 HQ).
But playing the full 4444 HQ, the picture is smooth, but the audio has these drop-outs - even with "best performance" option ticked. Interesting that the audio suffers, not the picture in FCPX - so not sure what's going on there. I also read - perhaps - that to play a smooth ProRes 4444 HQ movie in FCPX the data rate should be min of 500 Mbs (based upon About Apple ProRes) for HD movies and up (i.e. 2k). ProRes 422 HQ needs a data rate of 220 Mbs - so that is my upper-limit to smooth video&audio playback with the current system I have, I guess.
Does anyone recommend a fast USB3 or Thunderbolt drive (500Mbs+) where I am able to run 4444HQ movies with no issues to picture or sound (away from the fusion drive)?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating
system is it running? Version 13, PC with Windows 7
What are the properties of your source media? Do not understand what
you are looking for. But hare is some info
Length 00:01:23 Size 311MB, Frame Width 1920, Frame Height 1080,
Frame Rate 29 frames/sec, data rate 29977kbps, total bitrate 31616kbps
And, if possible, please tell us the brand/model/settings of the
camera or device that recorded the audio. Canon 70d, default settings
Is the audio a separate audio file or a component in an video audio
file? Component of video
What is your project preset? default
Also I was able to reload orginal file and there was no audio drop
out. But I need to understand what can cause this issue. But when I
load this file into Power Point
I am also having issues playing the saved file (for view on
computer). The audio drops out after about 20 second, video continues
to play. This did not happen with the orginal file that had the audio
drop outs in premiere. What dropped out in Premiere also dropped out
in Power Point.
If needed I can send you the file.
Thank you for your quick response

File Sharing Drop Outs 10.5.8
Network consists of G5 DP 1.8 with 2TB disk, IMac G5 Isight, IMac Core Duo.
Both IMac's access files stored on the G5 DP. On Both IMacs, Folder Alias's back to the G5 DP are defined.
Have been running this configuration with not problems with all versions of Leopard until 10.5.8.
Since installing 10.5.8, both IMacs intermittently lose the ability to connect to the predefined folders on the G5 DP. It happens ever few days... I have not been able to establish a pattern.
To work around the problem, either of these solutions works:
1. Reboot the G5 DP
2. Redefine the alias' for the folders on the IMacs.
A few of other items... All Macs have a defined IP address outside of the DHCP address space defined by my router. The router appears to be quite stable. It has not logged an event in several days. All other devices(Printers, Scanners, guest devices) on the network (with defined IP addresses and with router defined addresses) appear to be working normally.
Any ideas on what might be causing the drop outs? When you use the Desktop top menu bar Go/Connect to Server and enter
smb://nameofPC

Tables dropping out when saving PDF files
I have saved a document through writing to PDF in the Print dialog and also by exporting as PDF, but with the same results. In a 40 page document 3 of the tables get dropped out when saving so all I get is blank space where they should be.
Perhaps related is an interesting printing problem. When I print the entire document these same three tables are missing. But if I go back and print only the pages they appear on then the tables will print.
Any suggestions?Happens with a Konika-Minolta Magicolor, a Brother 1470-N and an HP Laserjet.

Internet drop outs on my G5 since I use a wired router instead of wireless
Hi guys!
I used to have wireless internet at home (1 x G5 & 2 x windows laptops). Internet worked fine and fast. Although I couldn't get all computers into a internal network (for easy sharing files...), but that's not the issue now.
Anyway, I have a new roommate in the house that doesn't have wireless on his windows pc. So, I connected all computers to a 4 ports router. I ditched the whole wireless thing because I couldn't get it working together with the wired router thing. So all computers are linked to the router by cable.
Now, at first everything worked fine. All computers had internet and I even had my long awaited network so that I could share files at high speed between computers (mac - windows). Suddenly, I guess after a couple of hours, my mac started having difficulties finding the network. At times I have no internet, or it takes looooooooooooooong to load up webpages and sharing files with my windows laptop takes like 6hours for 3giga (which normally is done in a couple of minutes). My windows laptop has no problem with internet, no drop out no nothing, everything works fine (except sending files to my mac which also takes hours...).
Anybody knows what to do?
Also anyone knows if the following is possible:
- cable comes in my house (WAN)
- goes to wired 4port router
- from the router 1 wire goes directly to a pc
- from the router another wire goes to my wireless accesspoint which then would be used to connect 1 or more wireless pc's.
- with all that, I'd like to have internet on all computers AND have a fully working network between all computers (mac and windows)
Anyone knows if this is possible?
Thanks for your time! The wireless access point is a D Link Airplus G+ 2.4Ghz. It has no extra ethernet ports.
I also thought of having a wireless router with extra ethernet ports. But of course this would mean another cost... I was hoping that I could fix it with the things I allready own.
But, nevertheless, there might be a little change in things as I just tried connecting with the second ethernet port on my mac. Haven't had any problems yet (+/- 10minutes). Am gonna try to send big files to my laptop in order to test the speed between them.
Will get back with the results.
Thanks for your help! -
Need to move documents from Record center to file share
I am trying to figure out how can I manage moving the documents from record center to file share. I want to move the older documents that are taking lot of space from record center in to some kind of file share. There are thousands of old documents that
I need to move to file share, so this needs to be bulk move.
ganeshAssuming you have permissions to the Record Center this is basically as easy as opening up the Library in Explorer view and doing a Drag and Drop Move. But you should be aware that you'll lose all the metadata when you do it. I suspect what
you really want is to move the documents to lower cost storage but retain the metadata and the connection to the records center. To do that you would need to look at something like StoragePoint from Metalogix. There's nothing built-in to SharePoint
that provides that kind of functionality.

Issue with G4 connecting to a Windows File Share
We have a single MAC G4 that our marketing department uses for graphic development. when we first setup the PC we were able to connect to our Windows shares on the network. For better than a year now we have had intermittent problems with connecting to our Windows file share. It would drop the TCP connection to the file share, you would need to go back a re-authenicate to the share. Two weeks ago the problem worsened, we can't connect the to Windows files share at all now. I have tried different users accounts including my own which has domain admin authority. However I have a samba file share and a snap server running on the network and I am able to connect to these machines with no issues. I suspect a configuration problem, but not sure where to look next.
The MAC is running the following OS version and Kernel
OS 10.3.9 (7W98)
Kernel Darwin 7.9.0
Any guidance would be appreciatedI just figured it out myself.

OS X server frequently looses its file shares.
my server loses its file shares every day or two. web pages and wiki work but I cannot see the files shares on local clients. I have to reboot to get them back.
hardware is mac mini.thank you for your reply.
I am referring to shared folders. They can mount the drive but as soon as they go to open a folder they get the beachball of death and then it crashes.
We are connecting using SMB. We explored using NFS back in OS X 10.7 but stuck it out with 10.9 when we were told Apple is dropping their own flavor and using the industry standard.
We try to stick as much as possible with our namespace connection as it allows us to serve the data from two servers we have syncing via DFS replication. Also gives us redundancy should one server go down.
thanks again!
