File Sharing .band (GarageBand) files in iTunes for Windows Vista?

I will try to be as clear as possible here, it's a simple situation in the end, but a bit hard to explain...
I'm a Mac user and my friend is a PC user, both using the latest version of iTunes which has the file sharing options to transfer files/documents from iPad apps to the computer. We also both use GarageBand on our iPad 2's.
My friend can transfer a GarageBand .band file to his PC's iTunes, grab it from the app file sharing and send it to me with no problems.
THE PROBLEM: When I send him a .band file, his PC sees the file as a folder instead, which cannot be dragged or added to the app file sharing in iTunes. In other words, I'm able to open and edit the .band files that he makes on his iPad, but he can't even send files that I make to his iPad from his PC's iTunes.
There has got to be a solution to this right? Otherwise it seems that Apple wouldn't have even included the app file sharing in the PC version of iTunes.
Am I doing something wrong? or is there a workaround for this?
Thank you!

MrMos3s - I had this same problem, and eventually found a thread post that fixed the problem for me. I found it here.

YEAAHH!! I did it! I just made a transfer of a .band folder from my PC to my iPhone through iExplorer!
This was my steps
1. Download iExplorer and install it. Connect your iPhone
2. Find the folder "com.apple.mobilegarageband" in iExplorers browser
3. Drag and drop your folder .band to the folder "Documents". (!! Your'e not done yet!)
4. In GarageBand on your iPhone press the plus-button as you would start a new song. Choose "Copy from iTunes". Choose your imported song.
5. Start rockin'
I've searched 5 hours to find this solution and man am I glad to finally have my songs back!!
Cheers,

  • Adding new Visualizer(s) to iTunes for Windows (Vista/7 64-bit)

I was actually kinda curious, not really a technical question, but are there ways to add other visualizers into iTunes? I ask this in particular, as I have worked with Macs before, and I fell in love with the Jelly visualizer from 10.5, and would love to have that same one running on Windows Vista. Any suggestions as to where other visualizers can be obtained, or how to port one over from Mac to PC?

That version is quite old now, though its fine if you don't have a device that requires a newer version for syncing or want to use the latest features. Should you want to bring things up to date howver, and have problems updating, then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • How do you delete 'GarageBand Documents' from iPad2 GarageBand App in iTunes for Windows?

Using the GarageBand Application, I have shared my songs/files between my pc and my iPad and now I want to remove them from the 'GarageBand Documents' list in iTunes but I can not figure out how to do so.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Hmm, this looks like a bit of a generic problem with the way iTunes manages supplementary files for apps. As far as I can tell you can drag pretty much anything into an app's private storage space from iTunes, and you can save stuff from it, but to delete you have to use the app. If you've dragged in something the app won't display then you can't find it to delete it.
If you've saved everything you want somewhere safe then temorarily removing the GarageBand app from your iPad ought to fix it.

I have tried troubleshooting with the article 'unexpected quits, freezes or launch problems' but that did not help. I have also tried disabling the Bonjour Service. No change either. Please advise. • ITunes for Windows Vista 64 bit

Is there any way to get iTunes to work on Windows Vista 64 bit? If not is Apple developing a version that will work in Windows Vista 64 bit?
    Thanks,

For a chance I tried in this way and (strange but true) it works:
I installed Quick Time alone (the 7.3 release), then iTunes, and this time no problem at all at the start up of both the programs.
Finally I installed the gear software driver and no warning message appear in iTunes.

  • Error message while trying to download Itunes for Windows Vista.plz help!

I've been trying to install itunes 9 on windows vista system. During the install, it says "error occurred during installation of assembly policy 8.0.microsoft.vc80.CRT, version 8.0.50727.403 type win 32 policy public key token=1fc8b3b901e18e3bprocess architecture=x86 Quicktime installs OK, but Itunes install is interruped -- Apple Support install portion is rolled back after this error pops up. I went thru suggested Apple troubleshooting options, got same error. Ran install as administrator from desktop, also did not work. Tried installing both thru apple software updater and directly from Apple website -- still get error. I am also having trouble downloading new updates for my computer, has anyoone exp this?? I am so frustrated, I have a new nano and can't use it

    Interesting.
Okay, let's try some general principles troubleshooting with this one, then.
    (1) Do you currently have a copy of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package installed on that PC? If so, try downloading the following security update:
[Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update|http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-4 0ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en#filelist]
Does iTunes install for you after applying that update?
    (2) If no joy there, head into your Windows Update and click on the Update History. Have a lot of Updates also been failing for you recently? If so, doubleclick on the entries for the failed updates to bring up more information on each. What error codes appear for you for the failed updates? (Precise spelling, please.)

  • Unable to install iTunes for Windows Vista

I recieved an apple ipod touch 32g for christmas and am unable to use it because I can not install iTunes.
I've tried following all the suggestion on other topics with similar problems.
Ive deleted Temp files and tried to install, Uninstalled all apple software from my computer and tried to reinstall. None of these worked.
I've also tried making a new user account and installing it there, and that hasn't worked either.
The error I am receiving is "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I also received the error when i attempted to uninstall Apple Software Updater when i was troubleshooting. I got a fatal error trying to repair it and then i restarted my computer and it wasn't on my installed programs list anymore.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

That suggests we've got trouble with the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi (and related installation configuration information) on your PC.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any *Apple Software Update* entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • ITunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues

When I install iTunes (currently version 7.4.3.10) and then reboot the computer, my DVD/CD drive disappears. I've read the post
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305422 . That restores my DVD drive, but when I open iTunes it wants to be reinstalled. When I reboot next, the DVD disappears again.
Is this something Apple is going to fix?

I do not see any UpperFilter file and I dont know what to do.
That'll be our problem. We need to create a new UpperFilters entry to get past the error message in your case. There's instructions in the following post:

  • IPod Touch will NOT sync in iTunes for Windows Vista

I get this error message. "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."
Well, I did that, then I reinstalled iTunes. The AMDS didn't reinstall with the iTunes software! Instead, it kept rolling back again and again. I uninstalled iTunes again, made sure everything was deleted with Windows Install Clean Up, then tried to install iTunes 8.1. Well, this installed AMDS, but it also installed iTunes 8.2 instead - and I am getting the same error message again. Is my iPod touch completely useless now? I can't update the songs on my computer to it, so what am I supposed to do? My computer is recognizing it and saying it connected and allowing me to open it, but it will not appear in iTunes. HELP!

IS NO ONE FROM APPLE WILLING TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE? This problem is being discussed all over the internet. Something is WRONG with iTunes 8.2 that is PROHIBITING iPod Touch devices to sync with it. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? I have been unable to contact ANYONE about the issue, and a support person literally hung up on me while I was explaining my problem, like he knew what was happening. WHAT DO I DO? I have a non-updated iPod Touch that is just being WASTED because I can't sync it with the newest version of iTunes. APPLE, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

  • IPhone not recognized in iTunes for Windows Vista

So, I have the iPhone 4 and I have only synced it once in iTunes about 2-3 months ago. I went to sync it again and now iTunes won't recognize it as a device. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and restarted my computer, checked my USB ports and my phone is fully charged and it still won't work.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you!!

    RogerioNT,
Which USB port are you connecting it to?
iPhoto will transfer over a USB 1.1 connection, and many hubs are USB 1.1. Try connecting the iPhone directly to the back of the computer.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.
