  • Why has file sharing between iPad and iTunes stopped working?

After installing the new version of iTunes and Lion my iPad shared files no longer appear in the Shared Files window in the Apps tab.  For instance I use Artrage and have imported many of my drawings using iTunes....but now this no longer works.  I contacted Artrage and they say that this does not seem to be a problem with specific Apps because they are seeing similar complaints from other people with the same problem but with different Apps.  I no longer have access to my Pages document either.  Does any one have any tips on how to fix this?  Anyone else having the same problem?  Thanks.
So to clarify....I connect my iPad.  Click my connected iPad tab on the left.  Then click the Apps tab along the top.  Then I scroll down and see the File Sharing section.  I see 4 Apps that allow file sharing.  I click Artrage to see files appear on the right hand side.  No files are listed. (I have at least 30-50 drawings)  I click Pages to access files.  2 files do appear....but not all files.  On my iPad I have 3 folders each with more than 4 documents....plus 4 other documents that are not in folders.
    Hope this makes sence.

I saw a similar post that had a solution posted.  The idea was a corrupted iPad back up.  So I deleted my iPad back up and created a new one.  This did not work.
I was hoping it would be so easy.

  • HT201301 I've backed up my iPad and lost a years worth of work in Pages. Is there any way to get it back? I had done file sharing between iPad and Mac but it only saved one of the Pages documents.

I've backed up and updated my ipad and lost a years worth of work in Pages. Is it possible to get it back? Before I updated I tried to do filesharing with my Mac but it would only share 1 document from Pages. All the others have gone.

I reposted the question here where I'm getting advice:

  • Any issues with file sharing between Windows and latest Mac client?

We're running Lync 2013. My Windows client is 15.0.4551.1005. Mac client is version 14.0.8.
I open a conversation with a coworker on his Mac. I then try to share a png file. He clicks accept but then my client says the attempt timed out, and his client says that I canceled the file transfer. The coworker then boots the Mac into Windows and we try
again, and the file share works fine. When I jump on my Mac, I can send files to his Mac without issue. When he tries to send from his Mac to my PC it fails, but when he tries to send from Windows on his Mac to my PC, it works.
I can't find anything specific in the logs that would indicate a firewall issue. Is there a bug with file sharing between the Mac and PC clients?
    Thanks,
    Matt

No, There isn't a bug with file sharing between Mac and Pc client.

  • Can I create a wireless LAN and file sharing between two household Macs?

I've got an iMac G5 running 10.4.11 and an Intel iMac running 10.5 and was wondering if I create a wireless Local Area Network and file sharing between my two household Macs?

I have a network set up for my mom using an old blue iMac with an airport card as the base station. I'm using Tiger on the machine, but you should be able to do this on Leopard, too. She's 700 miles away, and I did it quite a while ago, but it seems I set everything up using the Airport Utility. At one point I think I had Internet Sharing on, too, but I don't remember if that's still on. Haven't needed to use file sharing on the network, but my G4 and her boyfriends MacPro happily use the network via Airport. I'm guessing you could share files that way. If it doesn't work, an Airport Express is a less expensive option for the router, at least cheaper than an Extreme.

  • File sharing between Macbook and iPhone 5s? AirDrop or bluetooth

Just purchased my first Macbook ever! I'm catching on quickly however I've run into a snag with file sharing between my other Apple devices.
How can I pair and send files between my MBA and iPhone 5s?
I've made the change in system preferences to allow file sharing, yet still pops up on my iPhone that my MBA doesn't support this.
Also I've enabled Airdrop on both devices yet I can't seem to get that to work as well. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I would love to be able to easily send pictures or documents from my MBA to my iPhone 5s via Airdrop and vice versa.
    Thanks in advance

Regarding AirDrop, note the quotation below from: iOS: Use AirDrop to wirelessly share content
You can't use AirDrop on iOS to share with OS X users, and OS X users can't use AirDrop to share with iOS devices.
The iPhone has limited bluetooth profiles and the only supportde connection between an iPhone and a computer is for tethering (sharing the iPhones cellular data connection). iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles

  • File sharing between rMBP and iMac massive bugs.

I recieved my new rMBP this week to replace my Macbook Air and join my iMac and Mac mini and immediately came across a problem.
Ive always had file sharing enabled on all computers and sent and recieved files to the iMac from the Macbook Air with ease.
However I tried to copy a file from the iMac to my rMBP and was provided with an error code (-8000 something) and was forced to relaunch finder.
I brought the Macbook Air back up (incidently I used migration assistant to copy files and settings over from MBA) and it was able to send and recieve files from iMac with no problems.
The first thing I notice is that the rMBP asks for an admin password to write to the iMac - the MBA doesn't. If I check permission settings on folders from the iMac from both machines they both have the same permissions set so I can't understand this.
Now the error code when trying to copy from rMBP to iMac doesn't appear - instead I send a file and Finder goes crazy and copies a 0 byte file with the same file name onto the iMac thousands of times until I force Finder to relaunch again.
Incidently I can send files to and from the Mac Mini without any issues - and I can as of now recieve files from the iMac ok, but not send to.
Its a very odd bug, ive tried repairing permissions on both machines and restarting both but ot no avail. Can anyone think of anything to delete/reset/try to fix this odd behavour?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • ITunes 9 - Using 'Home Sharing' between Windows and Mac libraries

I have my main iTunes music library stored on my Windows 7 PC. It is currently around 200Gb in size, so pretty large.
I want to be able to use 'Home Sharing' in iTunes 9 to access this library on my Macbook over my home wireless network.
I don't, however, want to copy the music files themselves over to this laptop, but simply access the library over the network, and play them via either iTunes 9 or Front Row.
I would appear that the Windows and Mac 'iTunes Library' xml files are incompatible. I can't 'Alias' the Windows library on the MacBook for this reason. Does 'Home Sharing' eliminate this problem? Is there a way of accessing the library on the Windows PC without copying all of the files over to the MacBook?
I want to maintain a single library (which is often changing with new podcasts etc), rather than 2 libraries which I have to keep in sync.
Does anybody have any ideas on this one? I'm sure I am not alone in having this problem.
    Here's hoping...:)

  • File sharing between Leopard and Snow Leopard

I have a G5 and a Powerbook running the latest version of Leopard and they are both on the same network as a Mac Mini and Macbook both running Snow Leopard. The computers on Snow Leopard have no problem accessing the shared folder on the computers running Leopard but the opposite has not worked. I can't access either the mini or the macbooks shared folder from either my G5 or Powerbook. I set the firewall on all computers to allow all incoming connections to resolve this but have not been successful. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

I couldn't find anything in the system log at all and I tried the appfirewall.log and it isn't there. It could be because the firewall is turned off therefore it isn't logging anything.
I decided to try the system log on the G5 with Leopard running instead and got the following message pop up in the Console immediately after a failed connect:
    Oct 8 00:24:15 daniel-kennedys-power-mac-g5 /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder[139]: SharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned 22
    Hope this is useful

  • Adobe Creative Suites CS2 file compatibility between PC and MAC

We produce a 140 page catalog that was created by a third party for us on a MAC with Adobe CS2 using PhotoShope and InDesign.
I would like to make updates and changes to our catalog file using a PC with Adobe CS2 and send the file back to them for the more complicate work.
How could I do this? The people that created the catalog don't think it is possible and think it would not work. I know this is probably better suited for Adobe to answer but I wanted to obtain as much information from as many sources as possible.
    Thanks,
    SWFA

This is entirely possible; however, there are a few things you should be careful/aware of. Fonts are always a crossplatform (and even a cross-computer) issue. Even if you have the same opentype or true type fonts loaded on the PC as the Mac users had, there can be reflow problems which can drive an editor batty.
If you are just making copy/text revisions and correction, you might consider by InCopy, InDesign's sister copy editing software. That program allows you to open the designers' InDesign file and make adjustments to the text without altering their graphics and layout. From experience, this is very important!
Until you get that, you can make due opening the Indesign file and making changes. If you get any font subsitution prompts leave the original fonts alone. Things might look wonky, but the designer won't have to lay into the typography after every edit.
Indesign and Incopy rock. and the world needs to see more cross-platform integration.
    Have fun.

  • How do I set up file sharing between iMAC and MacBook Pro?

I am unable to use "file sharing".  When trying to connect as a "registered user" it asks for my server password.  What is that?  I have tried every password I think it could be.  I also can not connect as "using an Apple ID"

You can set up "iCloud" on all of them and select there to sync your Documents.  You must be running Mountain Lion on the MBA and iOS 6 on the iPhone and iPad in order to use iCloud:

  • IMessage on iPad and Mac not working since 9/9/14

    Hello!
All of a sudden, iMessage stopped working since 9/9/14. So here is the weird thing. It is working on my iPhone 5S, BUT I cannot send any iMessages to my mother in Austria. The weird thing is, my mother still can send iMessages to other friends, just not to me, not even on my iPhone. The other weird thing is, i cannot send any iMessages anymore on my Mac or iPad. It says on my Mac that ".... XXXXXX is not registered with iMessage", while I can send an iMessage from my iPhone 5S without any problems to that number.
So I tried EVERY trick in the book: Restart, logging out everywhere, Cmd+alt+p+r reset, resetting Mac, resetting iPhone and iPad, nothing worked (so please do not tell me anything with logging out and back in, resetting etc., I appreciate any help, but I already did this in any possible combination).
Clearly, there is something wrong with the iMessage servers. What else can I do?

Messages app on MacBook will receive but not send

  • 10.1.4 library file missing for help and update not working

Just updated to AR 10.1.4 and everything seems to be working except the help and update functions are not working. I get the message that the library help file is missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled in both FF15 anf IE9 with the same result and I installed from both Adobe and FileHippo with the same result. Anybody have any suggestions?

On the AR 10.1.4 tool bar menu click the "Help" item and the drop down screen shows a number of items to select from. If I click on "Adobe Reader X Help" I get a message saying "the library file is missing and I should reinstall". As for "check for updates" nothing happens. I've uninstalled and reinstalled AR 10.1.4 from two different browsers, IE9 and FF 15 with no difference. I'm using Vista 32 bit OS.

I have been trying to use file sharing but do not have admin password or disc..When I try to access the iMac from my Air it give the option of using my Apple ID but no password field comes up...I press enter and get the Dialog Box wobble...

I have tried using the guest login but get the message "Access denied to this server, contact administrator". I can access the Air from my iMac but even though they are both running Mavverick some of the dialog boxes appear different. And thats even though I have enabled guest login on the iMac

  • Missing files in catalog shared between Windows and Mac

I switch between using Elements 12 on a Mac (Mountain Lion) and a Windows 7 machine while managing a common catalog.  The catalog and media are stored on an external USB 3.0 disk drive attached to whichever machine I am using to work.
This setup works fine except that on computer #1, the Organizer “loses” media files computer #2 has worked with, and vice versa.  The problem seems to be in the way Elements stores the media file location.
    Example:
My external catalog and media drive is named “JS” and assigned drive letter G: on the Windows machine.
    File “IMG_0310.JPG” is stored in directory “2007 08 18”.
On the Windows machine the location seen in the Elements Organizer Information panel is “G:\2007 08 18\”.
Using the Mac, Elements reports the file as missing, finds it, and changes the file location to “\Volumes\JS\2007 0818\”.
Returning to the Windows machine, the problem repeats itself and corrects the file location to use Windows-style path names.
This wouldn’t be so bad if Elements was faster reattaching missing files, but the search for the first few reconnects takes a very long time and the whole process grows longer the more work I did on the other machine.   This is a major annoyance and time drain.
Elements documentation promotes the use of an external drive for sharing.  Someone else must have run into this same problem.  Is there a way to configure Elements to overcome the file location problem?
    Thanks!
    [edit]
I realize PSE 12 is new and many are still on PSE 11.  Is anyone using PSE 11 experiencing this issue?

    Thank you for the response!
Looking at volume_table there are indeed two entries for the external drive (rows 3 and 5):
The Windows entry on row 3 shows the correct volume serial number in decimal as assigned when the drive was formatted.  The hex version is 7A85-0647.  The Mac entry on row 5 shows a serial number that doesn't make sense from a Windows or Mac perspective.
This is interesting but I'm not sure what to do with this information.  It may not be a bug.  It would make sense from a development viewpoint to use the serial number to uniquely identify the drive and have separate entries for each OS tied together by that serial number, allowing the drive path to differ by OS.  Although, in this case the serial numbers do not match.  Maybe the Mac and Windows versions of PSE 12 are retrieving two different serial numbers and therefore do not see the drive as the being the same, which would be a bug.
