File sharing from mac to android device/phone tablet...(username/password invalid)

i want to stream files from macbook pro to an android device (tablet and phone)
i have set up the directories i want to share on the mac...
and on the android device i have installed different apps, but nothing works... it is detecting the macbook but its asking for a username and password
i use the username/pw i use to login to the mac, but that doesn't work it says its invalid
i have tried plex. bs player. es file explorer..
please advise?

You can find the solution here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4284885
Windows Vista includes security enhancements to file sharing, and defaults to NTLMv3 authentication, but your Mac thinks it's NTLMv2 (you can see the login failures in /var/log/samba/smbd.log). You need to tell Vista that it's OK to use an older version of NTLM.
1. Run "regedit.exe" and open this key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
2. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
LmCompatibilityLevel
3. Set the value to 2 (if that doesn't work, lower it to 1)

  • File sharing from Mac to PC

Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me with this issue.
For the life of me, I cannot share movies stored on my iMac with any other device except my Apple TV.
I currently have most of my movie library archived in iTunes (90+ movies) that I converted to .mp4 or .mv4 using Handbrake. All of the movies are available on my AppleTV. I have three networked PCs, one ethernet, two wireless. I have enabled file sharing to all computers. I have installed iTunes on the wired PC as well as one wireless PC. I can share my iTunes music (but no video) between the iMac and PCs.
All three PCs are Windows XP SP2 machines. I can navigate to the movie folder located on the Mac on any computer. I cannot open any movie file. I can open and access shared PDFs, spreadsheets, word documents, pretty much anything I have access to EXCEPT the movies.
I CAN copy the movie from the host Mac to any PC with no issues. Then, Quicktime will play the movie. But, no matter what I try, I cannot stream the movies to any other device, except the Apple TV. (There are no movies stored on the Apple TV. I have a Time Capsule managing a wireless network that streams movies with only a few seconds delay.) I could see there being a time lag streaming a movie to a laptop with 500mb RAM and a G wireless connection, but the wired PC is connected with ethernet. It WILL allow me to copy a 2Gb movie from the iMAC to the PC in less than three minutes.
I initially only had "Read" permissions on the folder in question, but I did try "Read and Write" access to see what happened. Nada.
I cannot find a definitive answer as to sharing movies with iTunes. But, even if iTunes will only share music libraries, I still think that I should be able to stream movies by accessing the file directly. The wired PC is in my daughter's room, and I would like her to be able to stream movies from the iMac. If I navigate directly to the folder in question, one of two things happen. If I try to open a .mp4, I get "Error 50: An unknown error occured" If I try a .mv4, iTunes will open, but nothing happens. I can view the movies playlist under my shared library, but nothing happens when I attempt to open one.
Eventually, I would like to softmod a used XBOX my sister gave me to stream movies on the iMac to another TV. I even tried XBMC on the wired PC to act as a media manager since iTunes would not pull movies off the network. It will find the movies, but it will stall (I did not let it keep trying after 15 minutes of "buffering" a movie.)
I know I'm not the only one trying to share a library. Even if iTunes will not let me do it, I should be able to set something up so others on my LAN can access these files.
    iMac specs:
    2.4 GHz Intel, 2G RAM
    OS X 10.5.5
    Wired PC specs:
    1.99 GHz Intel, 384mB RAM
    XP SP2
    XP SP2
Any suggestions? I don't have another Mac to attempt this with, but if 3 PCs have the same failure, I suspect it's either how my network is set up, file permissions on the iMac, or just a fundamental flaw in the way I'm trying to resolve this issue.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Wow! No one has any suggestions?
It has been suggested that Quicktime streaming will only work with Apple hardware. Can anyone tell me if iTunes will allow sharing video from a shared library, even if only Mac to Mac?
I'm beginning to suspect that is the case. In the meantime, I will try sharing a VIDEO_TS file using a media player on the wired PC to see what happens.
Or, if I'm good, perhaps I can get someone to bring a MacBook over one evening to try this with.
    More to follow.

  • File sharing between Mac Mini and iMac "breaks" after reboot of either device, and won't restore.  Why?  Running Maverick 10.9.1 on both.  File sharing is setup on both.  Help.

I'm a new user - recent convert from longtime Windows to Apple.  Thought having desktops and computing aligned with phones and tablets would help.  Not so far.
I have a MacMini running Mavericks 10.9.1, and an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.1.  File Sharing is set up on both.  If either device is rebooted for any reason, file sharing from the Mac Mini to the iMac "breaks" and will not easily restart.  Various things eventually brings the connection back - usually having to do with checking and unchecking File Sharing, the AFP button, and/or the SMB button on the iMac - but never the same procedure twice in a row.  File Sharing from the iMac to the Mac Mini is never disrupted - always comes back up without a problem.  Screen Sharing also works between both without fail, and comes up after reboot of either.  No problem there.  Only difficulty is from Mac Mini to the iMac.
    Why?  Any ideas?

Should also clarify - usually takes multiple hours of checking/unchecking file sharing settings in order to restore the share between Mac Mini and iMac.  NEVER happens automatically.
This is disruptive because I've got the Mac Mini pointing to several file locations on the iMac for various things - photos, music, etc. - and they all hang up unless the share is restored.  Real bummer.

There are "container" apps emerging for the iPad.  Enough searching & I suspect there would be one for your needs.

  • I DO NOT HAVE  iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device..............

First, this has ROYALLY pissed me off.  I was not asked or emailed or consulted on this prior to this happening.  Now, it only moved 41 pictures when I told it to archive out of THOUSANDS of pictures I have on Adobe Photoshop Elements 10.
In order to edit - it tells me to first start by accessing
iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device ..................... I DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE DEVICES OR MOBILE DEVICES......................WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?????????????  HOW CAN I EDIT MY FILES WHEN I DO NOT HAVE A MAC, OR IPHONE OR IPAD OR ANDROID DEVICE AND NO INTENTION OF BUYING ANY OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pamela-
I am sure Scott covered this in the other post, but for everyone's benefit, I'll add my two cents:
You do not need any of "those devices" (Mac, ipad, iphone, etc) since you have a pc. You can access Revel via adoberevel.com on a browser.
I am sorry you are unhappy about the move. Customers were notified by Email on 2/22 and also on social media. Additional emails followed. Some users had forwarded our emails to spam and therefore saw the news later than others.
Because a decision was made to discontinue Photoshop.com sharing and storage, we gave users the option to have them moved to Revel rather than having all of their efforts deleted. Users who had files on Adobe Photoshop.com Sharing and storage cloud site and did not opt out, did or will have their files copied to Adobe Revel (another Adobe cloud sharing and storage service) by 6/18. These files will remain available in Photoshop.com also until 6/18 in case users wish to archive them with our media downloader. No files were copied or moved from your Elements organizer (if you use it) or hard drive, just copied from Photoshop.com.
This was not done to upset customers, but rather was done as a convenience for customers so that they did not have to go to the effort of downloading from the one site and uploading to another since that can be very time consuming. Revel is a free account that you login to with the same credentials as you did on Photoshop.com. Although Revel is not a replacement for Photoshop.com (it has more of a focus on sharing between devices), it is an alternative.
Revel clients are currently available for iPad, iPhone and Mac. We also have plans to release Revel for Windows and Android in the future. In the meantime, those users can access Revel via a web browser at adoberevel.com.
IF you are on a pc, you will notice that the web browser version of Revel does not offer editing capabilities. Until we release a version for Windows, you do have some options for editing and getting photos to revel: You can edit in Photoshop Elements 11 or Lightroom and upload to Revel from there, You can use older versions of Photoshop Elements or Photoshop or any other editing program and save the photos to your hard disk and then upload to Revel.  You also have access to the Photoshop.com Photoshop express editor if you are not a user of Elements or another editing program. I gave instructions to another user on this post if you are interested. http://forums.adobe.com/message/5232833#5232833 .
You can sign up to be notified when Revel is available for Windows and Android by going to http://www.photoshop.com/products/revel ….scroll down and look on the right side where it says "coming soon- Notify me" for windows or android. Click and you can sign up to be notified.
We realize that Revel does not have some things that you are used to seeing on Photoshop.com, and we realize how frustrating that must be, especially since we do not have one option that covers all of the needs of what is being discontinued.  Many of the requests we have seen will be implemented in Revel moving forward.
I hope that helps explain things.

Hey guys, how can i password protect my files in external hard drive? I want to access those files both from mac and windows PC!

If you want a cross-platform solution that doesn't require the use of third-party software, use an external drive with hardware encryption. The device will have either a physical key or a numeric keypad. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you have a tablet that runs full Windows 8 - not Windows 8 RT, which is limited.
And if you install the full Adobe Reader for Windows, not the special Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8.
Then you will have the same features as a desktop.
Unless they can't be accessed in touch mode, since it isn't a touch app.

  • Converting file names from Mac to Windows.

I am an Apple tech at a university that uses both PCs and Macs. We have found that we run into some problems when transferring a user's data from one platform to the other.
When transferring lots of files, what do you experienced Mac techs use for safely converting file names from Mac to Windows?
    From Windows to Mac?
We've tried NameCleaner and ended up with bad results.
Please let me know if there is something good out there for these conversions.
    ---Timothy

    The problem looks like this:
    1. User wants to switch from Mac to Windows.
    2. We back up the data from his Mac to a server (an X-Serve RAID).
    3. We log into the server from Windows.
    4. We try to pull his data from the server.
During this data transfer, it quits with an error stating that it can't finish copying the data. I wish I had the exact text, but I don't. It does this repeatedly, and stops on different files from different locations.
In essence, without "cleaning" the Mac file names, data transfer to Windows cannot successfully complete. It quits on certain Mac file names. In the past, NameCleaner has worked sometimes, but now we have had some issues with NameCleaner (which don't matter in this discussion). The goal is to find a better solution than NameCleaner.

  • Can not login to file sharing from iMac

I have been trying to connect through the bluetooth feature to File Sharing from my iMac to my MacBook Pro.  I use the same password for login to my computers and for my File Sharing connections. For some unexplained reason; whatever password I enter when trying to connect from my iMac to the MacBook, it is rejected. I attempted to Change the Password. I entered what I have always used as my password and a new password. That was rejected. I assume because the "old password" was not recognized.
How do I go about establishing the correct password on my iMac to connect to my MacBook. I can log off my MacBook, and restart with that password; so I really don't understand what's going on.
    Please advise.

I read many threads about similar errors while connecting to BI Publisher I tried this:
    - Patch KB908002 (.Net for develosper) and didn't work
    - Patch KB907417 (office 2003 for client). Didn't work too.
I changed to a vitual machine with Windows XP and Office 2007. Everything is working just fine.
I think the problem with Publisher Desktop 10.1.3.2.1 (connection with BI Publisher) has to do with Windows Vista or Office 2003 (both installed on my pc). I'll install Office 2007 on Vista and see what happens.
    I'll post results.

  • Airport Extreme is allowing access to screen sharing, file sharing from external IP addresses (some from China, Canada etc)

How to get control over the ports/port forwarding etc in Airport Extreme?
How to make AE drop packets to certain ports from external ports.  Or create whitelist/blacklists?
I figured out where the MAC filtering is!  (It is inside the Timed Access Control).  I wish it had a list of connected device and allowed me to select, name and add them.
I am getting requests from Chinese IP to the screen sharing ports forwarded to my iMac.  Had requests to other ports as well.  There was one IP address from CANADA too.
I want to open file sharing for local use only.

Why is Airport Extreme forwarding requests for screen sharing from external ip addresses to my imac?  I don't have a public address, nor use dynamic dns service, and I have removed the server app (at least I think I have, but Apple Store doesn't think so).

  • HT201301 I see some iOS apps in the file sharing list for my iPad device but I do not see the same APP on the file sharing list of my other iOS device

There are some iOS apps appear in the file sharing list  of my iPad that does not appear in my iPhone file sharing list. Why is that and why iBook App does not show on the sharing list of my iPad?

The apps which show on the file sharing section on your iPad when connected to your computer's iTunes, you have exactly the same apps installed on your iPhone - they are not separate iPad and iPhone apps that you have installed on your iPad/iPhone, and only the iPad version supports file sharing ?
For iBooks, that won't show, it doesn't support file sharing. You can add ibooks / epubs / PDFs to your computer's iTunes library (the iBooks app if you are using a Mac with OS X Mavericks on it) via File > Add To Library, and you sync them to a device via its Books tab :
If you want to copy them off the device to your computer's iTunes (to the iBooks app on Mavericks) then File > Devices > Transfer Purchases will copy them over (that will copy PDFs and epubs from the iBooks app on your device, not just ibooks).

  • File sharing between mac mini and iMac

can I share files on my iMac with the Mac Mini wirelessly so I can view them on my HDTV without transferring files to an external hard drive and then connecting the hard drive to the Mac Mini? Or better yet, can I use the Mac Mini to mirror my iMac so I can work on the iMac from the comfort of my recliner in front of the big screen?

    The short answer is "yes."
You will need to enable file sharing.
When you open the finder on the mini you should see your iMac listed under "Shared" on the left hand side.  When you click on it you will initially see just the public folders.  If you open one all you will see is the drop box.  To get to your files on the iMac click on the "Connect As..." button on the upper right of the finder window.  Log on with your iMac user/password.  Now open your public folder and all your files will be available.

  • Transferring Files via File Sharing from 10.4.11 to 10.8.5

I am trying to get all of my files and information off of my laptop and migrate them to my new iMac. I have followed the instructions in regards for file sharing. However, when I bring up the finder and click on shared, the only thing that it will do is log me in as a guest. When I try and type in the password to log me in as a registered user it tells me that the password is wrong. Unless there is another password that I am unaware of I am 100% sure that I remember the password. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
