File Sharing Turns off

Hi, I've just set up an intel imac and wanted to connect it to my home network. I can connect from this computer (imac) to an ibook running 10.4.6, but when I try to connect from the ibook to the imac, the connection drops and file sharing turns off by itself.
I can switch it on again, but once i try to connect it turns off by itself again. Any ideas?
Thank you very much

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=352820
after trying all the usual stuff (permissions repair, change sharing name, reinstall & archive, etc) followed by a 1.5 hour call with apple (which had me doing the exactly same stuff all over again) i could only solve this problem by starting from scratch: backing up the relevant files, wiping the drive and reinstalling everything.
i keep a drive with all the most current installers of everything we use in each studio so we can get it all back even from a totally empty drive to up and running in about 2 hours.
good luck.

  • Personal File Sharing Turns off after an attempt to connect from other comp

I have personal file sharing turned on on my MacBook and when I attempt to connect to it from my iMac I get a typical logon windows and extended delay and then the message that the Server Connection was Interrupted. When I check Personal File Sharing on the MacBook it has been turned off even though I have locked the settings.
The problem exist whether I use my local Wireless LAN (Apple-N) or an ethernet connection. In both cases the MacBook the ethernet connection is with the a port on the Apple N wireless LAN

It may be solved for you, but I just discovered that since upgrading to 10.4.11 I can no longer connect to any of my other Macs. When I click on network NOTHING shows up in the Finder.
While I'm happy to grab random code posted by an unknown person and stick it in my system, I shouldn't have to. Clearly Whatever the update did to your Mac it did to my MacBook as well and most likely others. If this is the official fix for the problem, Apple needs to acknowledge it and offer a link to the file rather than relying on fix-it forums to solve their problems.
Apple seriously needs to test these updates a little more thoroughly before they make them available. I KNOW you are supposed to back everything up before you do it, yada, yada, yada ... but Apple has basically made the Software update feature an automatic function as if it is the best thing for your computer ... clearly that is not always the case.

  • IMac Late 2013 Yosemite 10.10.1 File Sharing Turns Off by Itself

I have file sharing turned on because my iMac is a file server for another Mac in the office. It is a new machine and I found that right out of the box when I left it on over night or when I shut it down and rebooted the file sharing kept turning off. I thought I was going crazy until I really paid attention and it kept doing it. Mac support really didn't have an answer. I told him all my settings and he said they were right and that file sharing should arbitrarily turn itself off, but it continues to do it mainly on reboot, but it has happened when I have left it on for more than a day. Any answers?

  • Personal file sharing turns off by itself

Hey everyone. My Personal File Sharing keeps turning off on my Mac Pro when I try to access it from my PowerBook. I have tried repairing permissions on both computers and still no luck. Also tried locking the little padlock in the Preferences Control Panel and no luck. The computer name is one word with no spaces.
I did a search on this topic but found an archived post with no new suggestions. Any advice out there?
    PowerBook G4 15 Titanium 1.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

I'd try trashing on the one that changes...
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
Then reboot and setup Sharing again.

  • Airport and internet sharing turns off by itself

Hi everyone, I have an imac that I purchased earlier this year, and I use internet sharing to get internet for my ipod touch. Until a few months ago, this worked fine but now airport and internet sharing turn off every time I restart the computer and I have to turn both back on every time. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know hot to fix it?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Download and install the v10.5.8 combo update available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
One of the "fixes" includes: - compatibility and reliability issues when joining AirPort networks.
After the installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • My Mac got hacked. I was working on a word document when the computer suddenly started typing meaningful sentences on its own that describes how the hacker is skillful. At the that time I was on a password protected wifi and file sharing was off.

This is the first time I get hacked this bad. I was working on a microsoft word document when the computer suddenly started typing meaningful sentences on its own that describes how skillfull the hacker is. At the that time I was on a friends wifi network that is password protected (not sure about the encyrption), the Os X Firewall was on. I was using the admin profile, however, file sharing was off. I'm very careful not to install any suspecious 3rd party software.
So far I have verified permissions and fixed some errors there, and changed passwords.
Do I have to erase/format my computer and reinstall the Os? If so is it adequte to use the internet recovery tool or will it use old and possibly infected EFI/Root files?
Would appreciate the advice of all the Mac experts out there. Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Sharing Turn Off Everyone

With File Sharing turned On and Unlocked,
How to Give "No Access" to Everyone it is a not highlighted choice?
I like to leave File Sharing turned on wherever I go and only let the Administrators have
    Read & Write access.

That will cause all kinds of havoc with the OS. Everyone isn't everyone in the world.
Everyone is actually others in the unix world. It is those users that either don't own the file/folder or who are not members of the same group as the file/folder. There are many "others" that need access to those folders. If you disabled access to everyone, then most of the processes that perform everyday tasks would be prevented from doing so. On a unix system, you are not the only "user," and "users" are not necessarily human.
When you establish an account for people to log into your computer with, you establish what they can and cannot see. If they are a normal account on the computer, then they have access to whatever they have access to if actually sitting at the computer logged in.
If you created a Sharing Only account for them, then they should only be able to see what you gave them access to see in the Sharing preferences.
If they don't have a log in to your computer, then they cannot see anything, unless you enable Guest access. Without enabling it and looking to see what is there, I don't know offhand what Guests have access to.

  • 10.6: Internet Sharing turns off after restart

I use Internet Sharing on my iMac to share the Ethernet connection from my computer wirelessly to my iPod touch. In Leopard, Internet Sharing would turn off after a restart. Snow Leopard fixed the problem for a while, but now it's acting up again. Any help?

Using MacOS X 10.6.2 I have the same problem.
My network configuration is just the other way around (wireless Internet and Ethernet LAN).
Looking this up in Google first, I came across this older support link of Mac OS X 10.2:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21168?viewlocale=en_US
The solution provided there is not really helping though.
However, it appears that this is a recurring issue Apple is struggling already longer with. Hope they straighten that out at one point.

This is a user forum, you are not addresisng Apple here. When home sharing disconnects is your computer still running or asleep?
I would check www.istumbler.net (netstumbler for windows) to check interference.

  • File export turns off canvas overlay

I have just completed exporting some stills from a sequence. Each time I exported a file using Quicktime Conversion the canvas overlay turned off. Since I was exporting frames based on timecode this was a bit of a pain.
Does anybody know if this is a feature or a bug. I expect that it is a bug, but I have been wrong in the past!
    Trevor

For me it only disappears when clicking on the "Options" button. You shouldn't need to do this once you've set in in a session...

  • Why does my Internet sharing turn off daily?

Why does internet sharing keep turning off?

Are the Airport bars still black & showing good signal when it gets lost?
Could there be another Network nearby on the same channel?
Any Microwave sources like TVs, Cell Phones, Ovens around?
Does the one providing Internet remain connect to the Internet when this happens?
Is the Ethernet Interface on the Mac that connects to the Internet dragged to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, with Airport below it?

  • Shared Photo Streams in Usage, despite sharing turned off.

I checked the usage on my iPad today (running iOS 8.1) and Shared Photo Streams are using 4.1GB of memory. The problem is that I don't have any shared photo streams -- I don't even have sharing services turned on.
I've tried Googling, but I can't come up with any solution to this.

Shared PhotoStreams are always in the order the photos are added and cannot be rearranged - they are streams.

  • Exported projector.exe file - sound turning off after a while

I have exported a flash clip as an exe flash presentation file. I am using Windows 7 with flash player 10.
The flash clip contains 4 seperate video files (movie trailers) which have been imported into flash. I am able to play these fine by running the exe file created in Flash (CS4).
After a while (10 min or much longer somethimes) the audio goes off but the flash movie still plays without the audio.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
I have also improved the quality of the video files that I am using within the flash movie (downloaded them as HD video files and converted them to f4v files in Adobe Media Encoder and imported them into flash to play with flv component. Unfortunately when I try to play the published exe file, when it comes to play the imported video elements the audio plays fine but the images of the movie are jittery. Am i doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance

Hi, not sure if you are in the correct forum. You may have more help in the Flash forum.
I don't understand CS4 and how Flash Player is related, so can't respond to that. Perhaps someone else will.
You could look on the right hand side for "more like this" when you open your thread since those threads are related to
    issues similar.
