File Sharing with XP and Vista

Hi, I have an WRT54G wireless G router. I have a windows XP computer and a Windows Vista laptop that I would like to enable file sharing on. I am having a lot of problems doing so. Can someone please give me instructions on how to do so? Thanks, Alex

I have the exact same problem, XP desktop connected to WRT54G (wired) and a Vista laptop connect wirelessly. Every thing works in that the internet connections of both machines work. I cannot, however, see the two machines in the network neighborhood of the XP desktop.
Before I installed the WRT54G, I had both machines connected to a wired router I previously used. Networking and file sharing worked fine in this configuration. Its only when I went to the WRT54G that I lost it.
I'm sure this is a simple fix, but I can't fix it!

File Sharing with Windows (XP/Vista)

Hello all,
I've studied various websites including the Apple support documents and I'm still a little confused about file sharing.
Is there a way to share only certain folders via SMB with a vista/xp machine?
E.G. can I just share my 'public' folder?
I've managed to share my entire account. I've managed to create a new account, and share that.
But what if I just want to share one folder?
In the 'options' box you can choose 'SMB' then the accounts you want to share. If you leave the all the accounts unticked, then try and access the computer from vista, it throw up an error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. The easiest way is to use System Preferences -> Accounts and click on Guest. Make sure that "Allow guests to connect to shared folders" is ticked.
Then, go to Sharing -> File Sharing and make sure that SMB is enabled. PC users should then be able to see public folders and write to drop boxes without logging in.
To enable more folders to be shared, click on the "+" underneath the Shared Folders pane, and choose the folder that you want to share. Then select this folder to assign user privileges. "Everyone" is equivalent to Guest, so if you want guests to see your folder, make sure that "Everyone" can read.
if you want the PC user to "login" to your Mac without using one of the Mac accounts, you can create a "sharing only user" by clicking on the "+" underneath the Users panel. You will be able to assign a username and password for this user. The user will then show up in the list of accounts to be enabled for SMB file sharing (after you click on the "options.." button).

Can OS X Lion (10.7.5) able to file share with leopard OS X (10.5.8)?
Kappy and I tried to get it to work with file sharing from my macbook air to g5- vice versa
Apparently finder wont work when we attempted to file share.

File Sharing with Airport and 2 MacBook Pros

I'm stumped on file sharing. When I turn file sharing on in MacBook Pro #1 preferences and type in the afp address on MacBook Pro #2, I see several folders with a red check next to them. When I click on them it says I don't have permission. Is there a way, using the afp address of MacBook Pro #1, to log onto using MacBook Pro #2 and view the contents and files of the MacBook Pro #1 hard drive? I've tried everything, but I'm sure I'm missing something simple!

Under "Shared" in the navigation pane on the left of your Finder window, click on the computer you're trying to access.
Now on the gray bar right above the folders, it should say "Connected as:" (see picture)
Who does it say you are connected as?

File sharing with iMAC and OS 9.1 Power PC back-to-back not working

Here's the setup. Any ideas on why it's not working?
Internet ports connected with crossover cable.
OS 9.1: File sharing ON, Program linking OFF, Document file selected for sharing
OS 10.4.8: Personal file sharing ON, Built in Ethernet both computers, GO connect to server-Power PC IP address entered.
Response after a timeout: "Connection failed. Check server name or IP address".

Still not working. Here’s what I tried.
OS 9.1: Configured TCP/IP in Control Panel for connection via Ethernet slot. Noted IP address from last DHCP connection. Turned on File Sharing in Control Panel. Selected file for sharing. In Chooser clicked Appleshare icon and Server IP Address button. (Note: Appletalk button active). Entered iMAC IP address in Server Address screen and clicked Connect.
No connection made.
Then opened Appletalk in Control Panel and noted it is connected via same Ethernet slot as TCP/IP. Therefore returned to Chooser, clicked Appleshare icon and clicked Appletalk inactive button. Upon turning File Sharing on in Control Panel, get warning message, “Appletalk must be turned on to use file sharing.”
As before, iMAC connect to OS 9.1 didn’t work either.
Artnum=302784 indicates Appletalk cannot be used, TCP/IP must. Apparently there is no way to disable Appletalk in OS 9.1 maching when file sharing.
It appears I’ve hit a dead end in trying to get operational file sharing between OS 10.8.4 and OS 9.1 machines.

Time stamps in mov files created with iPhone and Vista

This has to do with the time stamps for movies created with the iPhone 3GS. When I directly view the files on the iPhone in Vista, it populates the "date taken" field. However, when I copy the files from the iPhone onto my desktop computer, I no longer see the "date taken" field. Any suggestiosn?

Home Network and printer sharing with XP and Vista

   I have a home network and printer wired on my PC desktop which runs XP. My Vista laptop has been connected to internet and printer through the home network for past 6 years flawlessly. However, since October my Vista laptop cannot
connect to the network printer, but internet has been working fine.
   I've tried to uninstall/reinstall, update drivers, connect via TCP/IP but printer isn't located by add printer wizard. When I plug printer directly into laptop via USB it works fine. I also have tried another xp desktop in the house
and that cannot locate the printer also.     Help!

OS X v10.2 file sharing with XP and Win 2K

I need to read a from and write to a shared folder on a Win 2k pro machine. The Mac is a "cube" running OS X v 10.2. I'm a total Mac newbie so ... I need step by step instructions if anyone would be kind enough to do so. Thanks in advance. -stu

File sharing with PC and Diskaid: don't see files on iphone

i downloaded FileApp and Diskaid, But, the files don't transfer to my phone,Help!

Those programs don't install to your phone. They install to your computer so you can manage files on your iphone using your PC.
Run the program, connect phone to PC using sync / dock cable and the phone should appear in the programs window on your PC so you can then move files on to and off of your phone.
Be very careful that you don't delete or damage system files. You will end up having to restore your phone when it stops working if you do.

Vista file sharing with OS 10.3.4

Are there known issues with Windows Vista OS connecting and file sharing with Mac OS 10.3.4? We can connect Windows XP with Mac OS 10.3.4, but two Vista machines cannot. Any ideas?

Maybe a lack of support for something the Vista OS uses.
Mac OS 10.3.9 was always mountable and writable from XP. I would set up a folder on a large disk on my MDD (10.3.9) for my wife to connect to with her work laptop running XP, to use as a backup area. Printing was also extremely easy from XP to a USB printer attached to 10.3.9.

Any issues with file sharing between Windows and latest Mac client?

We're running Lync 2013. My Windows client is 15.0.4551.1005. Mac client is version 14.0.8.
I open a conversation with a coworker on his Mac. I then try to share a png file. He clicks accept but then my client says the attempt timed out, and his client says that I canceled the file transfer. The coworker then boots the Mac into Windows and we try
again, and the file share works fine. When I jump on my Mac, I can send files to his Mac without issue. When he tries to send from his Mac to my PC it fails, but when he tries to send from Windows on his Mac to my PC, it works.
I can't find anything specific in the logs that would indicate a firewall issue. Is there a bug with file sharing between the Mac and PC clients?

Macs and file sharing with Panasonic Lumix TS5

I'm trying to set up this camera to send my photos wirelessly to my IMAC but have hit a brick wall. The instructions with the camera state wifi sharing is supported with OS X 10.4 to 10.8, and I am running 10.75. The instructions are simple: find the file and enable sharing. I've completed all the steps, and my camera finds my Imac fine, but then cannot find the shared folder.
I researched this and found that for a different Panasonic camera, despite what panasonic says, file sharing did not work for mac only environments. (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3360154). I have contacted panasonic, and am beginning to believe the this is true for my camera as well. I explained my problem and she first recommended to sign up for a lumix account. Then it went from here:

Dave: Ok, do I understand correctly that I needed a lumix club account to transfer images wirelessly to my IMAC?

Kerry-Ann W.: That is correct and based on checks done if it is not seeing your folders that means there needs to be some settings done on your computer for it to see the folders and if that is not done then you will not be able to see the folders.

I have no idea what settings she is referring to, and she offered no guidance at all. Has anyone had any success file sharing with panasonic cameras? Or has anyone else concluded this is hopeless?

I have run through 2 of these cameras (1st one died-Epic Panasonic Fail) and I'm stoked I found the easy fix. No thanks to PaniCsonic.
Connect your camera via USB to your MacBook. Don't worry that it won't show.
Go to System Preferences under the 'Apple' icon (top left corner for any newbies)
Select the 'Sharing' tab/folder (should be yellow diamond with a person walking to YOUR left direction)
Select 'Internet Sharing'
A sub menu 'To computers using' will open up to the right with 3 boxes/options:
1) Firewire
2) Ethernet
3) Bluetooth PAN
Select Bluetooth PAN box so it check marks as selected.
Click the 'Internet Sharing' box.
Select 'Start' when the prompt asks if you are sure you want to turn on Internet sharing.
The 'Internet Sharing' box will then select.
Your camera will then prompt you to select a USB mode. Select 'PC'.
Wait through the access mode and VOILA, your photos will be uploaded straight to iPhoto as they should do in the first place.
I like the camera for it's simplistic functionality. I had a slick Olympus underwater that had the same features, but was more time in navigating through them all. I don't like PaniCsonic for their poor foresight in making this camera an austosetup feature for Mac users. My iPhone didn't like it much either.
Nonethless, there's the fix. For/from me.

Osx 10.5.8 can not file sharing with Canon IR 5020i copier/printer/scanner

this mac networked other window computers(vista), the canon ir 5020i is file sharing(scanning and save the documents) with vistas.
All computers are same "Work Group" and this mac can print out to the canon ir 5020i.
i can see(open and delete) the files of the mac from vista computers.
how can i get a file sharing with this mac?

There is not "fix" to be provided, Apple made a decision to not include the file sharing profile.
